So just the other day all forms of vibration stopped working on my phone. I first noticed that haptic feedback stopped working. I turned it off then re-enabled it. The first key press get a vibration, but after that, nothing. I then realized my phone wasn't vibrating when getting a text, and everything else that should cause a vibrate no longer was.
Is there anyway to determine if this is a software related issue or a hardware related issue?
My phone is rooted with Carbon ROM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've only had this phone since November.

Hey guys so my Tilt 2 has been having an issue when I put it to sleep. It goes to sleep fine, but when I wake it up the screen remains black. The actual device turns on, but the screen stays black. I can still make calls, receive calls, play music, etc. but I have to soft reset the device if I want to be able to see what I am doing.
From what I can tell my problem is different from the normal Sleep of Death issue where the device simply won't wake up.
I've searched through the forums looking for solutions and have tried pretty much everything from doing a hard reset, using different roms, formatting the internal memory, etc. Even after doing all of this, my device still suffers from this issue.
Any insight into my problem would be greatly appreciated!
I assume you've tried a simple reset using the reset button or pulling the battery out and putting it back in?

Yeah every time I the screen goes black I soft reset it in order to get the screen to turn back on. The problem is that the issue persists through soft resets. I currently can't suspend my device because I can't get the screen to turn back on...
hold down the volume down button and then press the reset button (the physical reset button) this should bring you into your bootscreen the multicoloured screen.. if you can get there then you can flash a new rom on your phone... and thats a whole other ball game. It gets a lot of hype as being hard but its really super easy to do if you just follow the directions.
Tilt 2 dark screen solved
With the tilt 2, if the screen does not wakeup, but you can answer the phone, hear music, etc..., it is a malfunctioning light sensor, maybe hardware, or software related (drivers), but it is fixable. Just eliminate all calls for use of the light sensor.
I had this problem and took quite a while to figure it out, as there are several apps that poll the light sensor that cause problems.
First, go to start/settings/system/power/backlight and uncheck the auto adjust backlight option
Second, go to start/settings/personal/buttons/backlight and uncheck the enable keyboard auto backlight sensor.
Last, open advanced config (need to download and install from touchxperience.com, if you do not have it), tab to light sensor and set light sensor polling to disabled.
Now, my phone works normal and will wake up properly from standby like it should. this all seems hardware dependant, as I have in my family 3 of these things and I dropped and broke mine, so bought a new one (4th in the series) and it had the SOD issues, but could restart with softrest. Took me the better part of the day to find a reliable fix, but now all is well again.
Hope this helps other Tilt 2 and similar issues.
Im still trying to figure out whats going on with my TP2. all the stuff ive read says turn auto light adjust off. done. could be a hardware problem with the light sensor.. not sure it worked day before yesterday. task 29 and flashed two different rom. flashed htc's newest radio Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.27 and Energy.RHODIUM.29017.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.Mar.21 (which the my location and weather isnt working for me) still the same problem with the screen not waking up. went through the reg and found the proximinty senors light control made sure they were set to 0. i havent tried holding it up to a bright light yet.. but after it sleeps or a call comes in and when going to end the call you can barley make out the end call and keypad buttons if im out side. Please someone help me with this or maybe someone can at least tell me whats wrong.. ive been up all night and day reading trying to fix this. how could the light sensor go out all the sudden? but before the screen sleeps it works fine.. im confused
Reseat your stylus.
I had the same prob come up. I had the auto brightness 'on' since I had this rom. I turned it 'off' and set the brightness to 30%. Then the problem started happening. I turned the auto back 'on'. Didn't work. Turned auto 'off' and set bright to 100%. Didn't work. Turned auto back 'on'. Started pressing sleep button repeatedly while slipping out the stylus.
All the steps were done with soft resetting the phone following the auto 'on'/'off'.
Found this out by accident.
Same rom as you too.
I have to slip out the stylus to get it back on somethimes
I am having the same problem! I was hoping for a registry fix.. The only thing I can do to get my screen back once its off is to pull the battery.. thats a pain in butt!
I have done a factory reset, the stylus thing and nothing works so far.
Please Help us if anyone has the answer or a registry tweak for us!
Thanks
1.If you slide your screen up, does it come on?
2.If you slowly slide your screen up while repeatedly pressing the power button, does it come on?
Mine just started having this same problem too. ^#2 works for me.
Nothing Works
Nothing works for me..
I have to pull the battery and and set the phone to leave the light on all the time..
Then if the phone rings the light goes out, I cant see who is calling and have to pull the battery again..
Sure hope someone knows a registry fix soon.. its driving me nuts!
Nope none of that works. pull out stylus the call keys come on but no screen. slid the keyboard out the keyboard lights come on but no screen... guess im just gonna run andriod untill they get the nand booting fully functional with GSM. to hell with windows.. not only mobile windows has always been crap!
I had the same problem, it was caused by a third party software (last version of FreeOTFE4PDA). Before giving up, try a hard reset and install third party software after a few days.
This problem started back up for me. Guess I'll be flashing again.
Seems like it's a problem with the latest NRG roms. This started happening with the last two and I haven't installed any extra programs.
OK guys, here is a official fix for SoD that I have prepared for ya.

I can boot over to android and the back light comes back on.. its crazy that I cant
get it to wake up in winmo! Please let me know if there is a registry fix that Im not
seeing??
Thanks so much..
Hi everyone,
I've done quite a bit of searching but not able to find anything along the lines of issue I'm having with my AT&T OGP.
Android 4.1.2 Bone Stock. Not even rooted. Running E98010K.
Issue:
I get to work and put my phone in vibrate mode and after a while it turns the sound on.
I get hangouts notification or email and when I try to unlock the phone, it makes the unlock sound and disturbs the peace at work.
I've had that happen at home too. I would put it in vibrate mode at night and all of a sudden when I unlock, there is sound.
First I though that I'm doing something wrong but since I got this new job, I put it on vibrate during the day and somehow, magically, it turns the sound on.
Has anyone else had this issue or is my phone haunted?
Thanks for your help in advance
Nobody else is having the same issue?
I had that happen to me twice today where I'd put it in vibrate mode and all of a sudden it would put itself back out of vibrate mode
I got a T-Mobile G4 on June 1st, and have been having kind of an annoying issue with it. I have haptic feedback turned on so my phone vibrates when I hit the on-screen buttons or long-press on apps, etc., and I also use Swiftkey with haptic feedback as well.. Whenever the phone vibrates like this though, it has a little clicking sound it makes, like the motor is hitting something when it rotates. I don't have any button volume on either, so it isn't audio feedback. I tried searching elsewhere on the internet to see if anyone was having this problem but I figured the phone was too new for there to be a whole lot of information about it. I'm trying to determine whether I should just get over it or go into a T-Mobile store to see if their units do it as well, and exchange if I need to. Thanks for any help!
Yes! Mine does that too I had to shut haptic off. Pisses me off so bad because I like haptic
Mine did this, intermittently. It was OK at first, but after maybe a week, it would intermittently make sort of a "click" noise when the haptic would turn on. I had vibration feedback turned on for the keyboard, so while typing it might be smooth 4 times, then make a weird sound, then smooth some more, then click again.
I also found it very annoying I got a different unit, and this one has been fine. I hope it stays this way. I don't know if you can easily replace just the vibration motor assembly, if you wanted to fix the issue.
Looks like this will come to a hardware problem.
I noticed I was missing calls because the vibration on my G3 was not working.
I downloaded a vibrate test app and it has two options. One long vibration and one constant short vibration.
My phone refuses to vibrate sometimes, but if I shake it, it starts vibrating for a short time (testing the short vibration option)
If I use the long vibration and shake it, it vibrates "infinitely".
When it works properly, the vibration looks stronger.
In other words, it's look like a battery that it's not properly placed.
It's weak/not working but works sometimes.
TBH, it has been very weak/not working in the last few days.
Should I search for a assistance center and ask for a changing on my G3 vibrate motor,
or should I try anything special (Lollipop bug)?
Hey, I have the EXACT same problem. Everything you described... how you shake it on long vibrate it will vibrate infinitely regardless of shaking it afterwards. The app you're using is "Test Your Android" am I right? Well I have the exact same problem as you and it's causing me to miss calls and notifications every day.
I doubt it is a hardware problem because shaking it allows it to vibrate forever. I tried shaking it while vibrating to see if there is something loose or not well placed, but shaking as hard as I can while it was vibrating did nothing. Maybe software errors involving shaking the phone and vibrating?
Theory # 2: Maybe the "Long Vibration" allows it to constantly come "unloose" thus why when under long vibration it doesn't stop, but the short vibration stops because it pauses every so often.
