when you are upgrading your phone via Odin as normal you will not loose efs

You'll not get any problem if you flash a proper rom on your device for upgrading, but backing up the efs is always advised.

Flash your proper official rom (Download it from Sammobile.com or Sampro.pl), After flashing, go directly to Recovery menu (By pressing Vol up + Menu and then Power key) and hit >>"Wipe data and cache"<< it'd get your IMEI back.

[Q] N7100 back to stock 4.1.2 from MJ5

Hello to everybody,
I want to ask something.I am in Cyprus and from here i take my Note 2.
The official version for Cyprus is 4.1.2 PDA: N7100XXDMB2 CSC: N7100VFGDMA1 MODEM: N7100BUDMA1.
I flash it with the leaked MJ5 and i know that it changes the EFS folder format and new bootloader with warranty bit.
I don't have EFS backup from 4.1.2.
So the question is :
Is there a safe way to downgrade it back to official for Cyprus.
latest 4.1.2 jb install odin your problem slove
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I think you don;t understand correctly my question.
I know that it is safe to restore it to latest JB (ends with MG1 or later) because it is after June and EFS folders have same format.
The official JB for Cyprus is Before June .
This is my question.
Or at least if there is a way to do it
latest jb ends with mg1

If you are currently on leaked MJ5, then you will have the new Knox bootloader. So, if you want to downgrade, go to Dr Ketans thread and
1) Flash patched bootloader through Odin
2) Flash wifi fix through Odin
Then you will have old bootloader and you can easily downgrade
Thanks everybody for help ,but i am still not clear.
I know this about DrKetans bootloader patch.
My basic problem with downgrading is :
Even before MJ5(new boot) if you try to downgrade back to stock from first leaked firm it causes IMEI brick. If i downgrade to stock witch is lets say MG1(brazil) i will not have this problem. But this is firm for Brazil.
I want to downgrade to official for Cyprus witch is firm before June.2013= possible IMEI brick.
Any other opinions ?

Use a root explorer (probably the easiest way) to make a copy of your efs folder from your current ROM.Go through the steps to downgrade you phone as was posted before and if you loose or corrupt you imei then restore it by copying it back to system/ with the root explorer again. The 4.1.2 firmwares changed the modem.pit file way back on XXMEG4 and as far as Im aware it is the same as the modem.pit file in 4.3.If it doesnt work resoreing the efs folder then you also need to just flash the XXEMG4 modem too.Thats fixed it for a lot of people Ive seen with this issue.
efs restoring query??
hello everyone, i ve a efs backup, backedup wen im running on 4.3 (xxuemj5). is it possible to go back to 4.1.2 (N7100XXDMB2) and restore tat backup (backed up on 4.3)? i had a prob (" not registered on a network") last time wen i went back to 4.1.2.
thanks in advance-

[Q] How downgrade to 4.1.1 from 4.3?

Is there a way to downgrade the Galaxy Note 2 N7100 from 4.3 to 4.1.1 firmware because I've been foolish enough to flash a 4.3 custom ROM without making a backup of the EFS. The phone has a service provider sim lock, so I need to downgrade to 4.1.1 or is there any work around to sim unlock my note2 on 4.3 without rollback the firmware to 4.1.1?
EDIT:
I'm currently using my Note2 outside the origin of the phone which is the Philippines, I'm currently residing in Manama Bahrain.
You can try to find the newest version for your phone, country and carrier on http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
I have not tried to downgrade with Odin, but I'm guessing it would work.

I don't need the newest one, I need to find a firmware with a sim unlock app compatibility.
Then download the last version that worked for you.

I wanted to downgrade to a lower version of the N7100 firmware, preferably 4.1.1 since I need the sim unlock. The phone is locked to a Philippine telecom, I'm currently asituated overseas - I want to use the phone overseas, hence, the need for the sim unlock is dire.
EDIT:
One more thing, the EFS backup and nandroid backup got deleted when I wiped(accidentally) the sd card.

Yes, what I did was;
Enter download mode > Flash a custom recovery (It was TWRP in my case) > Reboot > Flash a 4.1.2 based ROM
*I was quite lucky though since I flashed a ROM with a separate zip for the new modem, I got stuck in the process of a full reboot after flashing the ROM. Whence, this should be the sequence I'm supposed to do to make the ROM work;
Full wipe > Flash ROM > Reboot > Go on with setup > Wait for the boot sequence to finish > Reboot > Flash newer modem > Reboot
*I got stuck on the first reboot routine*

another issue regarding the downgrade
Hi,
my N7105 is rooted, 4.3 is installed, knox had been installed but was deleted using Titanium backup. Now i want to flash it back to 4.1.2 again, but:
odin doesn't recognize the phone, i don't have any files to try flashing it via recovery mode and the official update function doesn't work, because it's rooted. I also don't know, if flashing via the recovery mode would work at all.
Am i bound to 4.3 forever?
Generally i simply want to downgrade to 4.1.2 as i can't see any advantage in 4.3 or -if possible- would like to try cyanogen
Best regards
Gerald

Will flashing 4.1.2 Stock Rom on N7105 mess the IMEI?

Hi all,
I'm planning to flash my phone back to 4.1.1 via Odin and then to to 4.1.2 firmware, found on Sammobile to carry out the unlock method.
However, I am on the DMF2 baseband, and have heard that flashing a new modem over this will mess up the IMEI.
Will this happen if I'm only flashing a stock rom over it?
Thanks in advance!
I used to flash 4.1.1 stock ROMs onto my N7100 from 4.1.2
I would go into a bootloop after flashing it but booting to recovery and wiping data and cache solved my problem. Just backup your EFS to be on the safe side though

flashing new modem will not mess up IMEI.
but to be safe, back up your EFS before you do.
Normally IMEI will be messed up if EFS corrupted during the flashing.
Most of the time, it will happened if you change ROM with different base version (and normally happened when you never read the instructions of the OP very well).
So, when you want to downgrade, please do backup your EFS first (especially if you are coming from 4.3, due to different bootloader/partition of internal storage).

revert to 4.1.2 via NAND backup? (Bootloader)

Hi all, I seriously consider to flash a 4.3 ROM (most likely Hurricane) even though I'm still happy with my 4.1.2 - however finally curiousness wins...
I have a simple question, just want a "yes or no". If the answer is no I will not ask for any further advice - will find it by myself.
Q: In case I do not want to stay with 4.3 can I simply go back to my previous 4.1.2 by just recovering a backup (NAND)?
My question is primarily related to the Bootloader since I'm wondering if a recover would restore previous BL as well. I don't want to go for the wifi-fix, therefore I will flash MJ5 BL prior to flashing 4.3 ROM.
Many thanks in advance!

I did something similar before and it didnĀ“t go well
I installed amnix rom because of the walkman player, but in the process that rom changed my modem so I was on G1 from thunderlite v7 and changed to L4.
there were some issues with the rom (mainly on walkman graphic glitches) and decided to go back to thunderlite v7 using a nandroid backup....
the thing is everything "seemed fine" but the modem was not restored ...
also my proximity sensor stopped working,
after a couple of days trying to fix it. I decided to install an old ROM from my carrier (telcel mexico) and lose the IMEI which I got back using an EFS back up I have (the first one I created)
then I updated again to 4.3 on hurricane everything seems to be working ok with the EFS folder and the sensor.,,
so I dont think your bootloader will get restored either.
be cautious.
I was asking myself the same question. I had a 4.1.2 backup of ARHD v19, and then i flashed the 4.3 ARHD v20.1, along with the MJ5 bootloader.
I was dissatisfied with the performance of 4.3, so i decided to revert through recovery. I made a 4.3 backup just in case i brick the phone.
Then i restored the 4.1.2 and everything went well, the 1st boot was about 10 seconds longer.
Now i am not sure did it restore the old bootloader or not, but the device is running pretty fast now on 4.1.2
So yes, it's possible

A nand backup does not contain the bootloader.
But to be sure you can install "android system info" from play store.
Then check buildinfos and the post boot loader version.

Why dont you go in download and see if the bootloader has the knox bit or not.

BASEBAND UNKNOWN, IMEI UNKNOWN, NETWORK UNKNOWN, No backup of efs

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T (I747) phone, when I tried to install android 4.3 Stock ROM which I downloaded from a 3rd party website I Baseband, IMEI and lot others became UNKNOWN . After a lot of googling i found out it could be because of the efs folder. But I didn't have any back up of it. I downgraded my phone back to 4.1.1 successfully, but still the issue persists. I could not find any backed up efs folders online and none of my friends are using a s3 AT&T model.
Please suggest what else can I do? or if someone can help me out, provide me with a efs backup for efs professional.
Thank you in advance.
How did you downgrade to 4.1.1? I didn't think that was possible once the phone was running a 4.3 or higher bootloader.

I found flashable files for both firmwares which made the downgrade possible.
Are you sure the bootloader was downgraded to 4.1.1? Running a 4.1.1 rom on a 4.3 bootloader can cause the issue you are experiencing.

Yes, My mistake the bootloader and modem were struck at 4.3 even after the firmware downgraded to 4.1.1. So I again updated it to 4.3 and restored a qcn file i found online and it resolved my issue.
Glad you got it resolved. If you run into the same problem when flashing recent custom ROMs, you may have to upgrade the bootloader and modem to KK.
