[Q] Bad battery life? - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hello everybody!
I just got this cellphone and this is what happened so far.
After I got it (brand new), I rooted, unlock it bootloader and install a custom recovery so I can start installing Roms and stuffs.
First thing I remember when I was on stock rom, its the awful battery life, that's actually the reason that made me swap roms.
I started to read every popular thread about LG LS970 roms and the one that caught my attention was Carbon 4.3. It was great, didnt like many of the animations and stuffs that included, but it was smoother and batter life was awesome.
The problem is that at that time, my DATA wasnt configured yet. I tryied many things but I noticed that many of the hidden menu that used to work on STOCK ROM, didnt work at this rom CM based. After some reading I realized that it was because of CM.
So I got back to STOCK and then sent my cellphone so it will get its data configured.
Now my cellphone can use 3G and stuffs, all nice, gps, mms, signal, everything working flawlessly.
My only issue is that now Im back on this horrible battery life. No wakelocks and anything, I learnt about that using other cellphones.
And Im using the same apps that I was using with Carbon rom when I was getting exellent battery life.
So my questions are these:
I dont know how to configure data, and this cost me a few bucks. Is there a way to get back to Carbon ROM without losing this cofiguration? Or will that get wiped off with everything else?
Is there a way to backup/restore this specific data? So I can swap ROMS and get back everything else?
By the way, I live in Dominican Republic, the PRL I use is 30122, I can update PRL easily with the tools provided around here, but couldnt figure out how to edit apn or whatever option was needed to edit to make DATA works. And the guy I paid it for, did it in only 20 mins. Couldnt see how he did, I just noticed that he needed DIAG mode to do it.
I know a few settings like APN (lte.tricom.net), MCC and MCN and stuffs like that but I think there's something else to it.
Also I was wondering if I can connect my cellphone to CDMA Workshop and read it, will that display whatever this guy did to my cellphone? Maybe I can copy everything and then setup myself.
Too many things and I dont know what should I do.
Thanks in advance for any tips/advices/insights.
P.S.: IF there's any kernel, thing, whatever that one can install on stock rom to improve or make it work (batter life) like Carbon rom, then I'll do it. I dont care much about roms, I like some features, but its the battery life the thing I care the most.

VZW Leaked ROM

Hi all,
This was posted over at PPCGEEKS so I decided to bring it over here. This looks to be a leaked VZW ROM for the Vogue. Use at your own risk. If you have GPS running, and dont want to lose that functionality, do not let customizations to run.
ROM seems fast and stable. I am still working through all the pieces of it.

Doesn't look good at all. I advise not flashing to this ROM, it's not even complete!

I have had no issues with it. I did let customizations run the first time and that screwed my GPS use, but was able to recover from it. Now I am running it with my own nav software(iGo8), and all is seemingly well. I have even decompiled the ROM so I can add my own OEMs into the mix.
Steve
PS - big kudos to RSTOGUY for the decompiling tips!

What do you mean it isn't complete? Last time I checked the ROM has to be complete to be able to flash it. Mind explaining your comment?
great
I have been using OMJ for awhile and love it. Until i came across this. I have been using this rom since it came out and first it runs fast and is very stable. The battery life lets just say i have been running it for 45 hours so far and am at 30 percent. Don't know about you but i can go another day on this. I am a moderate usage kinda of person and also notice that in fringe areas it seems to not drain the battery as much because of the better reception. Also it is ok to let the customization to run but make sure to do the *228 dial option 1 reset and then option 2 reset. The best thing about it is i think most will agree is if customization runs don't worry even the most noob will not mess up there phone. So YIPPEEEE and you can do it.

It's like a car, as in it's "complete", so you can drive it, but it's missing the seats. Which is why I say that, so I suggest not flashing the official leaked ROM, but a modified version.

If you let customizations run then the GPS functionality is lost. It seems to be locked down, unless you have figured something else out?
Steve
Sorry for the delay
Yes there is a workaround with something called vahalla gps or something. Very easy to install turn location on then use google maps and bam bam thank you mam. Ok weird but hey it works and update for yall 50 hours into the rom and running at 40 percent battery . I love it like cheeseburger.

Yes I know Skywing and his fix for the Titan, which should work here, but I need COM port functionality and his fix does not address that. I am working with someone on PPCGEEKS to detail how to get the 1.37 PRI back on Vogue. Its a little bit different than Titan.
I am with you. The battery life seems to be amazingly better and the ROM seems to be operating a bit faster than the custom ROMs. Too early for me to put the check mark for it but so far so good.
Steve
I tryed it but couldn't get the GPS to work after letting customizations run. Even with the GPS Hack it wouldn't lock on with my Tom Tom 7. So I went back to my oiginal rom and now am back with OMJ's rom and happy to have my GPS back.
Great ROM
I ran the leaked rom & the Vahalla GPS .cab and have GPS locks
with Google maps and Live Search. Tested both on the road
yesterday and they both provide exact locations.
The rom is really stable & the data speed is a lot faster.
The radio is a great help with battery life & I get a better
signal in the fringe areas.
Love it , like having a new phone.
I’m happy for you guys who ever have good chance to run the Verizon ROM, but as you can see this is not from HTC site or even from Verizon (yet) its from Lab. Not mean that its fully function in some way if the GPS enabled right now that good, but I personal can’t believe Verizon will let it out for free because they have there own Navigation software. Anyway, I did run this ROM the first hour when it went out, and personal I did not like it! I had issue with freezing every time I boot my phone. And the GPS not even close to Bell Radio, with Bell I will be locked under 15 sic with at less 8 to 9 Satellites. Plus it’s not any faster than what ever out right now. Sorry to popup your bobble. But in the end its personal choice..
Sorry to hear that
I have had no problems with this rom whatsoever and i am still running this bad boy since i last replied. it has not died on me but now i see the red light of charge me please. But this is well over 70 hours now. Did you install the leak rom with the radio or with bell's radio. I guess some people will have problems and some won't Sad to say that is life and is expected . But like Steve i won't check mark it yet, but so far no freezes and basically everything is working the way it is suppose to. Maybe when they build a custom rom out of this which i believe they did over at ppcgeeks, then everything will work better for you as far as freezing.

Ditto with me. All of the above. However, the link to the valhalla cab file no longer works. I wonder if skywing was forced to take it off or something. Luckily for me I got it before it disappeared...........
I figured that might happen so after I ran the cab I sent the file
to my storage card in case I needed it again.
Good to see you over here at xda Dr. Rodger !
I ran the leaked rom & the Vahalla GPS .cab and have GPS locks
with Google maps. So far everything else seems to be working well. With enough searching I was able to find the Vahalla GPS and download it so if you need it keep searching.
I verified this through an inside person at Verizon and they said that this is their file so it's just a matter of time before this comes out on probably the HTC site. I installed it on mine, I have no customized ROMS or anything else, just as-is XV6900 and it works just fine. I did not let the customizations run however.
Where can I find the Vahalla GPS .cab? And is it really necessary to get the GPS to work with this ROM?
As far as I can tell you need it because within this ROM gps is deactivated. Do a search over at ppcgeek.com and you should find it. Some reported that the link was taken down but as of last night I was able to search and find a cab for it. I am sure there is some other work around but I don't know it and this cab did the trick for me.

Poor to none 3g speeds

So I'm fairly new to rooting and have been flashing a bunch of ROMs since I have and everything has worked fine but today I have noticed that I can very rarely get 3g in my house and a lot of the times its completely gone, I can't even get 1x. I have not messed with radios and I hadn't planned on doing so but what's going on here has anyone else had similar issues? I've flashed different ROMs after full wipes and still am having troubles. What gives?
Edit:
I am also getting really slow USB speeds. Like 10 minutes to put a nandroid backup onto my sd, this used to take a minute or less. What is happening and how can I fix my phone I'm going on vacation tomorrow I need it working
Do a full wipe in recovery, then flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087077
As far as slow SD speed, are you on an AOSP rom? If so, Chad's incredikernel will fix it. Look around on his thread, I think the latest release has it incorporated.
Yea I was trying MIUI so that's that problem.
Edit:
Whew you are a a life safer that brought back my great 3g speeds. I would like to know what exactly this did though and if I can flash new ROMs again and what might have happened to cause the problem.
Another cause for this to happen is that if u flash a Rom with Sprint source and u call the *228 it will mess your phone up and you will need to go back to the incredible official froyo to fix it... I had this issue my self ...
Sent from my Incredible using Tapatalk
I thought I remembered hearing something about turning the phone on or off while in airplane mode causing this too, but I could be wrong. Glad that you got it working, if you have more questions feel free to ask.
I'm having problems with 3g as well. Has anyone tried applying this then going back to another rom?
It's my understanding that the GB leak fixes it, and you can go back to the rom of your choice after flashing it.

SMS Problems...

Intro:
I have the Samsung Epic 4G. Great phone, running into problems. I originally started out rooted and modded with the CyanogenMOD 10 Nightly. Everything was going great and I love the mod but I started getting MMS problems where I couldn't see the pictures being sent or the ones I was sending. There was an easily located temporary fix found online to delete the telephony file and restart the phone. No biggie I can deal. Then bigger problems started arising as I was no longer getting all of my text messages. Sometimes none. I contacted Sprint and they ran through the whole ordeal of giving me some codes to input which of corse wouldn't work on the MOD and I couldn't update the profile so they said they'd check the tower where I was located and turned out nothing was wrong with it.... My wife and I are having a baby so being unable to contact her without calling constantly is a no go.
Main:
I flashed the stock for the SPH-D700 and all of my problems were fixed. This is a no bueno for me because it's full of bloatware and the phone without modification dies before my workday is out practically, even without heavy usage (and forget heavy usage because that was like shooting the battery into the sun and who the hell wants a smart phone that works for only like an hour?). After looking around I located the stock FC09 Deodexed MTD which comes with ShadowKernel (aweeeesome!) and flashed that. Didn't have any issues and all my texts were coming and going through. This was tested at work using a series of seperate sequential alphanumeric texts and all was good. I installed the usual suspects, Voltage Control, Juice Defender, SD Maid, ES Explorer, the WiFi hack, etc... Not being a fan of the stock messaging app I also downloaded the standard Chomp SMS app (which is def a step up and ad free) as well. I knocked the voltages down reasonably and tested them using Voltage control to do that and control the CPU (no overclocking). I got rid of all of the apps that the XDA Wiki said I could and backed everything up. All was well until yesterday. I charged the phone the previous night and went to work doing the normal kinda day act. I sent my wife some messages but figured she was busy when she didn't respond. Hours later I realized that she probably had responded because she never goes that long without doing so. I asked a few friends to text me and I texted myself as well and now I wasn't getting ANY texts. I did the phone dance with Sprint to no avail and they told me to take the phone to my local store. This would be the second Epic 4G that they would be replacing. The first one had this problem too but fixed itself when I flashed the stock rom. Then there was some water damage which thankfully insurance covered and I got my replacement earlier this week when I worked on modifying my phone to something I found acceptable. I think this rules out a hardware issue. On a whim I restored to a backup that I had made after getting my phone neat and tidy and some odd things happened. I started getting texts, but not the ones that I had already missed, and I was getting some later ones first before getting the first ones sent, I.E. i'd send 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and get back 5, 2, 3, 4, 1 but they would arrange themselves in the correct order onces they came. It was also taking them forever to come in as I would send them and have to wait five to ten minutes for them to come.
Conclusion:
Tired, frustrated, and somewhat perturbed I reflashed the stock rom and the problem again has fixed itself. My question is has anyone else run into this? I've looked everywhere and can't find a similar case. Am I just not seeing something that's directly in front of me? Ideally i'd really like to put Cyanogen back on but I can't afford not to be in contact with my pregnant wife. I'd also reaaaally like the WiFi cabailities that were advertised with the phone but then neglected to mention that I would have to pay 30$ extra a month for. Is this a similar issue to the MMS telephony file issue that can be resolved with perhaps a nightly deletion of a file? Is there anything I can do NOT to be on the stock rom with the worthless battery life and bloatware that chokes?????
Sincerely,

So that's a big wall-o-text. I didn't read it, and just skipped down to your conclusion. You can flash another CM based 4.2.2 rom to test SMS/MMS. It all works fine for me on Slim. If you want TouchWiz, then flash The People's ROM. This rom has no bloat and better battery life than stock. All of these roms have the Wifi access point built in.

I'm dloading the latest CM 10.1 RC4 to give it another shot. I'm not confident that this won't happen again either immediately or within a few days. Thank you for your input.

I guess my concern is that this happened across both roms, FC09Deodexed and CM10.
Ok so no luck. Flashed CM10 and no bueno. Not getting all of the messages I send to myself. Massive delay between send and receive.
Then you're left to using Odin to get back on stock. Check auto-reboot, repartition, and f. reset time. After you are back on stock FC09, you may as well update PRL, but be sure to update profile. Test on 100% stock again.
If things work like they should on stock, then Odin in CWM without auto-reboot checked. Battery pull, then reinsert. From there boot into recovery and flash a rom of choice. Test again on newly flashed rom.
If things are not working properly on stock rom, then bring it into a Sprint store for service.
Sorry to say but all of that's been done and put in the original post (which you only speed read through the last part). I appreciate your help though. This is the second Epic 4G to do this to me on everything but the stock rom which makes me think it's not hardware but if it's not happened to anyone else then not much else I can do.

Haha, yea well it was a big wall of text.
I've burned through my ideas, lol. Good luck to ya.
Np, I really appreciate the advice. So far i've rerooted, reflashed the FC09DeodexedMTD and did a straight sprint (no lollygagging with install and uninstall of apps) to a barebones what I want system, apps include then backed up via CWM. So far it's still working great though i'll keep my fingers crossed. Should anything happen I have a backup from the getgo that should put things back to the way they were, ie. working. Stupid problem, of corse it has to only be me with it.

[Q] ROM's, PRL updates and all that fun stuff

Hello all. I'm Trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I lost my IMEI and all, did the stock ROM to get it all back (which was a 4.3), rooted it and then got rid of KNOX. I have flashed to various custom ROM's since then and continue to have the same problems, which are bad GPS locks (or no GPS locks and its using cell tower and wifi for a position) and loss of mobile data (no 4G or 3G, think it happens when I'm on 3G for extended amount of time or something). I've tried AOKP, Cyanogen, and other various AOSP ROM's, different modem's, and different kernels. From what I understand you can't do PRL updates on AOSP after 4.2, and to accomplish this you have to flash back to stock, do the PRL update, then restore your previous custom ROM from a backup. Anyone have any idea where a good tutorial or where some info I could use. Also I would like to get a better understanding of some other things, like why flashing the ROM does not change the modem, kernal, prl ect. for starters (writes to certain portions of the file structure, while leaving others alone?) I need to start understanding Linux and stop trying to relate it to a Microsoft O/S. Any help would be appreciated (even a really big flow chart). Thanks.

Personally I stopped using ASOP and AOPK roms, because you lose a lot of the key functions of what the phone was designed for mainly SPEN features... If you flash a TW rom and it has the sprint app, you can update prl and profile that way.. I personally us goodness 3.03 MC2 the last one that was made.. It comes with the prl write function, so you change your prl any time you want..
I'm starting to look into the MIUI ROM's out there. I want to keep some of the Samsung functionality (like screen mirroring), but I guess I want my cake and eat it too.

First I have heard of this.. Plus many users have stated the same thing.. So what is the reason behind the lousy sound with these roms, plus the unstable connection issue.. Two more reasons why I switched back to TW..Now the roms themselves look real nice, but somethings still need to be worked out before I would even consider trying them again..

People repeat the same wrong thing often enough, they start to believe it. About the only thing you can't do is the useless air command crap as of now.
Don't know about "unstable connection issues", just about any ROM data either works or it doesn't. Sound issues are often kernel related. Latest Plasma does wonders.

[Q]Please Serious tech help! cellular data radio unresponsive

Look i normally dont ask for to much help ive been around a bit know more then the average bear. I also fix hardware.
My problem is my data radio will not switch on from any attempt:
Attempted solutions:
Dialed
*#*#4636#*#*
Will not switch on from that screen
Did the obvious and switched on and off airplane mode
Replaced the entire build.prop file with a very stock build.prop after flashing stock jelly bean
Repeated steps for all stock firmware
Newest attempt wiped the entire system partition through recovery forcefully bricking the phone. I have now flashed the original stock e980 stock 10p tot file still no luck
My phone is completely unlocked fully rooted.
I've replaced the data permission files.
And I know its not the SIM card because the SIM card is in the phone I'm using right now which is an LG g2 unlocked which is for sale by the way.
And if it is a hardware problem I have not found any related video or thread to help me find an exchange where the radio is on this thing
Help me please if anybody has any idea?
Cool no help, hey moderator can u move this to thread that may get more help that would be awesome
i came looking around here because my g pros radio stopped working sometime last night while i was asleep and was about to make a thread asking for help, but seeing as how you haven't got much i doubt i would either. but ill give you a little info on mine, will it help you out at all? not sure. but i know it might make me feel a little better.
I flashed Vanir 4.4.4 last week coming from Beanstalk 4.4.4 cause beanstalk was getting buggy from all the ugly mods i subjected it to. so all was well with Vanir till i woke up this morning and had no service, no calls, no network, AND even if i connected to a wifi network it seemed that i couldn't get any data from it. I tried flashing madmacks modem cause who knows, maybe thatll help, but it diddnt. So then i flashed a different kernel and changed TCP protocols cause who ****ing knows, but it did nothing. THEN i restored my older Beanstalk 4.4.4 backup sure that it would work flawlessly but guess what, same problem. Now that im back on Beanstalk i went to the "Network Operators" option under "Mobile network settings" and selected ATT, which is my service provider, i can now make calls and texts but still no data, when i did this on Vanir it did not help. So i started messing with my "preferred network type" and realized i have data on 2G, but not 3G or LTE. Im gonna take a wild guess and say that maybe if you flash your phone back to 100% stock your radio should start working again, as much as i dont want to, i might end up doing that as well.
tl:dr
similar problem, i dont really know ****, easiest option = go back to stock, hope it works.
@Fant0m3 @alb-o
Have you guys checked if your rom shows your imei?
I have had this problem twice. My IMEI disappeared and I don't know how.
Your symptoms match.
If that's the case you could take it to a repair shop and they'll fix it in a minute or two. Or, you can check around xda.
thats a good point, when i was looking around XDA earlier i saw a few mentions of it but diddnt see anything very specific and was late for class so diddnt have time to look for too long. strangely enough mine actually started working normally again after i kept switching from 2G to 3G to LTE, which is great. but if i would've known that info earlier i could have checked if my IMEI disappeared while my radio still wasn't working, i assume it probably did.
after searching around more i found this thread that talks about it and how to prevent it:

thanks for the help g0at1, hopefully this helps out the OP if he hasn't already fixed the problem, or anyone else that comes across this.
nope
I've flashed back stock numerous times even flashed other versions such as e988 and back again if u dint know how to do that just change your build number in your build prop file...I've tried everything I am downt to antenna cable SIM reader or cell radio.. If radio I might as well just give up cause I can't find one for sell anywhere...I'm not so pressed as I'm using the LG g2 and it's so fast stable and a bit slimmer I think I'm gonna keep it but I would like to fix it and sell it though...... My symptoms are mentioned and all tried fixes are there. Imei is read carrier is not WiFi is received but there is an X above the data bars phone is fully unlocked as well
This may help also but it does not read my imei when the SIM is not in hmm maybe I will rework the imei code and get back if that works. I will keep updated when fixed and with solution
