I got this weird issue. I charge my phone awhile ago then unplugged it after it reached 100%. After a few minutes, i tried surfing the net and sending an email then the device suddenly turned off and restarts. It just keep on restarting after the samsung animation. I tried plugging the charger and it went on normally. But when i tried pulling the charger the issue comes on again and shut the device off again and restarts. I flashed DN3 rom few days ago. is it the battery (i hope not) or a software or ROM issue?

Well surely common sense should dictate to try another rom or two, If issue remains you know its a hardware problem.
By bet would be on battery.
Sounds like a dud battery to me
same problem ! have you found a solution ?

and now this happened to my phone. any solution to fix this? buy a new battery or because other hardware?
I've had the same problem. Phone worked when fully charged and not used intesively.
If I turned a game or app, it restarded with a few % of the battery.
Place your battery on flat surface and see if it's bulky.
I had the same problem before. In my case it was because of the battery so I had to replace it. Works fines now. Using DN4 btw.

Confirmed "FIX" : you just need to reboot the phone
To Reproduce the BUG: it's only happens when you charge it up to 100% with AC plug, and leave it there for long
However if you charge it via computer USB, then it doesn't get stuck at 100%
--- Original Content Below ---
I contacted T-Mobile yesterday in regards to my battery continuing to be stuck at 100% after fully charging. This had been happening for the past 4 days for me. They really didn't have a lot of answers, however, the one thing they suggested is for me to reboot into recovery, in my case, clockwork recovery as I am rooted, and wipe cache. I took it a few steps further and did the following:
- wiped cache in recovery
- wiped delvik-cache
- wiped battery stats
- rebooted and charged phone to 100% at which point I ran battery calibration
Immediately the battery responded and started updating with the correct percentages. I have since charged the battery two additional times with each time the battery responding appropriately.
I am not sure which step fixed it or if it will indeed fix your similar issue. However, I wanted to pass along these steps as it may help someone out there.

i exchanged mine for that reason and it did it once and hasnt done it again. id sure like to know the reason for it
If you charge with duferent charger then it gets stock on 100%

I always used the stock charger and the issue was there.

my wife is on her 2nd phone with this issue. we have a day left before the two week grace period is up. i'll try the fix you suggested today and hopefully it works! i have a bad feeling i'll get some ugly looks from the tmob people if i come in there again!
On my 2nd phone, exchanged do to random shutdowns. Anyway, it happened on this phone as well. I did the steps listed and it hasn't returned.
It's only happened to me once, but a reboot fixed it.
Granted, it shouldn't be happening, but is this really happening frequently enough to be considered a 'problem'? I got my galaxy on launch day and it's only happened that one time, the second day I had it.
Couple of things i think may have resolved it for me, but i still am not sure what exactly made it work.
- Charged the phone to 100%
- Did battery caliberation which deleted battery.stats
Still was stuck at 100%
By afternoon i connected the phone to computer using USB, it beeped that the phone is fully charged, i unplugged it by mistake and plugged it back in and it displayed the correct battery.
- Charged that night with the original charger (Was using a different one before)
Since then it is working fine for me.
I had somewhat the same problem, only on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini. The battery got stuck at 100%, no matter what i did (clearing batterystats.bin, charging with original charger, charging via USB, bumping it...).
The battery also stopped charging at 3,7V instead of charging over 4V.
The last thing that worked for me was taking out the battery for 5 minutes and then reinserting it. 3 days of effortless troubleshooting, and a simple battery pull saved me from sending the phone in to my carrier.
whenever i get a 100% stuck i just boot into CWR and select the option to wipe battery history
then it all goes back to normal
i just shut down the phone via the power button on the right side and turn it back on. works every time. a shame though.. shouldn't have to do this.. i hope samsung/tmobile fixes this.

Yeah I just reboot it every morning after unplugging the phone.
Got a replacement phone and it happened again once. Booted in Clockwork Recovery and followed the steps I posted in the OP and it hasn't happened again.
Happened to me a few times....a reboot fixed it for me....not a big deal for me...i just reboot when it happens...

I also have this problem. I am currently rooted, but using the stock ROM/Kernel. Although I did have this problem before I rooted too. I was wondering if any of the ROMs or Kernels are known to solve this problem. Then we would know for sure that this is a software problem the tmo/sammy can fix.
It's from the charger. Use the charger the phone came with. im using the original galaxy s charger and no problem whrn i charge with other charger overnight it gets stock .

For me the charger I use does not make a difference. In fact, the real symptom here is that the phone is stuck at 100% when it is off the charger. Sometimes when disconnecting the phone from the charger after a "successful" charge, the phone will stay at 100%. If this happens, then even connecting the phone to a charger (perhaps after a couple of hours so you would know that the phone is actually at some percentage less than 100%) will not cause the phone to realize that it is in fact NOT at 100%. What's more, since the phone thinks it is at 100% it will not charge itself. The only cure I have seen is that when I notice that the phone is still at 100% after it has been disconnected from the charger for long enough that I know it should be less than 100% is to reboot the phone. Once I do that then the phone is good to go.
Maybe this can help... I've never had the problem until I charged the phone while it was powered off. Due to the nature of my job, I leave my phone on 24/7 and never had the issue until reading about battery management and doing a charge while powered down. After turning the phone back on, I had this issue until a reboot which fixed it.

If it's anything like the problem we are experiencing, then it means you will have to reboot every time you complete a charge, since it gets stuck at 100%.
This is getting to be really annoying ... having to reboot every morning after a charge. I really wish Samsung would release a patch or something.
Mines only done that once, it got stuck at 100 aftervi unplugged it, reboot fixed it, but it hasnt happened to me since

Ok so I've had the GS2 for a week now and i think its amazing. But, I've noticed sometimes when i charge it it shut off completely and does not charge. (via ac and also usb) I have to take out the battery and put back in and then it charges again. Is this a bad battery or is it a phone issue?
I haven't had that problem at all.

that is very weird
it should charge even when the phone is completely off
or when it goes to sleep mode
i'll suggest trying to do a Factory Format and see if that problem persist
it might be a software bug
I was using my nexus on facebok last night with a virtually full battery when fb stopped responding and a few seconds later the phone just switched off.I tried to restart it it but it would not come back on.I tried al combinations of buttons to try and reset but still nothing.I plugged the charger in to try, nothing.I left it on the side board,I forgot to leave the charger in all night.got up this morning plugged it in the charger and it turned on,left it for 5 mins unplugged the charger and it turned itself straight off again.I have a feeling that my battery has just instantly died, the phone is only about 3 weeks old at the moment.I will be charging it for a few hrs and see if it will come back alive.Fingers crossed it will. Its strange to go from a full battery to off in an instant.
Err did you try to pull the battery when the phone originally crashed.

I didn't pull out the battery as i didnt think it was nessasary. After a few hrs charge it came back on but it is worrying that this could have happened to such a new phone
This happened to my first nexus. Totally just randomly died.
I returned it as faulty.

Basically what happened was that when your phone "died" it actually stayed on but became unresponsive. Because you just left it for the whole night it drained the battery dry which is why you found it like that the next day.
Anyway next time when your phone crashes just do a battery pull and it should fix itself. The crash seems to be a common ICS bug and a few people have reported it. (including me) Hopefully Google fixes it soon.

it's not just because it's a nexus. it's been an issue with various android-based phones over the years. granted, not a common one... just somehow something 'screws up' and you have to do a battery pull to reset the issue.
I've run android for a while now and have had various lock ups, but this was totally different. It actually locked up and turned off and no matter what buttons for reset or just a normal boot would do anything the battery was totally flat and only a charge would do anything.i could not even boot into recovery as it was flat. Its going back fire a replacement in the next few days
One thing I have noticed since it happened is the battery life has gone terrible in that it is draining very very quickly yet nothing has changed on my phone

I experienced this too yesterday. I was on call with headset and I had USB plug. Suddenly phone call ends and phone was dead. I have unplug from USB and pull battery.
Mine did exactly this while on charge last night. Pulled the battery and it fired up straight away. Second time its crashed since i got it. My iphone 4 only crashed once in the 18 months i had it. Guess android isnt as stable yet.
Happened to me yesterday, and then wouldn't charge. Did a battery pull then put it on to charge. When I got it back on checked Battery temp and it was 45C I think that was the issue. after half hour it was down to 31C.
Omg.. something like the G2X random reboots?
I just experienced the same problem. Using my phone and it just went black. First thought was to try powering it on. No luck. Second thought, pull the battery. No luck. Went back to my desk and plugged it into USB so it would charge. No indication it is charging. Tried turning it on. No luck. Leaving it for an hour or more and will see if that does the trick.
Googling to find this thread I actually found dozens of threads on various sites talking about this issue. Hopefully it is a bad batch of devices and quality control has rectified the situation.
Anyone have any successful resolution to this issue? I've been using my phone for around a month now.
My phone stopped charging from its regular wall charger this morning. Now when I plug it in it doesn't do anything. If I turn it off and plug it in the battery icon with the charging icon shows up then shows it charging, then it shows the charging icon again and the same thing keeps happening until the battery just dies. The only way I can get it to charge is if I plug it into usb port on my computer. Is there any solution?

problem resolved !
I just started experiencing the same thing. Occasionally I can get it to charge, but usually it just sits there and dies. I haven't been able to test the pc charging, as I'm currently on vacation. This is pretty random, considering I've had the phone since launch day (Verizon), and have dropped it, etc in the past with no problems; then randomly it won't charge.
Had strange problems like this. Try bending the little tab in the charging port on your phone (carefully) away from the side. I haven't had a problem since.

Your charging brick or USB could be bad. Try different cords/chargers.

I've had similar issues.
Some background: It started just after I flashed the AUG 29 AOKP Jellybean nightly. It might just be a co-incidence but I saw a couple of people on rootzwiki who had a similar issue.
I wasn't charging at all then. Only when I was turned off. I was having driver issues with computers that had connected to the phone before.
I have since reset it back to stock JB and the charging from the charger seems to have been fixed. Instead my pogo pin charging is a bit iffy. It works sometimes but not always.........
Well, I spoke too soon! NOT CHARGING from the wall again. When phone is shutdown, it charges. In Android, it doesn't.
Could you tell us what you have done so far? Any solutions that you tried but didn't work?
Have you tried:
-different battery?
-using different cable or the charger?
-straightening the metal part of the port?
-cleaning the port with alcohol?
These are the known solutions for most of the Gnex port problem. If you haven't tried already, please do so. If you're still having problem with it, tell us.
Solution
This is not a randome issue... Happened to me too only ONCE and never again
Solution
Let the phone battery die out completely and then charge a bit and boot into CWM recovery. Reset battery stats and you are good to go.:good: Or you can even try reseting battery stats without complete discharge. I havent tried the later since had this problem only once. I'm not a developer but my theory is that there is some embeded software that determines power supply and due to some reason it got corrupted.
Hit THANKS if I helped
Thank you everyone for your help. Really appreciate it. So I know I didn't get it wet. And I changed chargers and batteries to no avail. Then I tried what the last post said, to wipe battery stats. I did that and restarted. Did it again because first time didn't do anything. Now its charging fine. Great relief

I'm experiencing this problem now. But I think it's because I was messing around with 'Fast Charge' settings in my AOKP Milestone 1 ROM controls without really knowing what any of it meant. I'll try to wipe battery stats and do a few reboots. I'll let you guys know.

Same problem for me now too! =\ I'm using cyanogenmod though. I reset battery stats, formatted and factory reset the thing and nothing. Also tried a few different cables. It's also no longer being recognized when connected to PC.
EDIT: Looks like the USB connector on the device was slightly off center. Bent it up a bit and it seems to be working as normal now.

Hi everyone,
my phone simply won't turn on anymore. It was still working fine yesterday and before I went to sleep I plugged it in the original AC charger like everyday (the phone was on ~50% battery and still working after I plugged it in). But when I tried to wake up to phone in the morning nothing happened. I disconnected the charger and tried to turn on the phone again but still nothing. Then I tried connecting it to my computer but that did not work either. The phone does not show any signs that it is "alive".
I checked the charger and usb port of the phone if their is any visible hardware damage but there wasn't. The phone is only 3 weeks old and was working fine until yesterday. It was running on MDB08M and the bootloader was unlocked so I do not know if I can send it back on warranty.
Anyone here who got the same problem and found a solution?
(sorry for my bad english)
I would try connecting it to the PC and check device manager for any signs of life.
I had a similar problem, the charger died but luckily I had a spare charger

I have tried connecting it to my computer but there is no sign of life.
I guess there is no other choice than sending it back to google with the bootloader unlocked ...
My phone has died almost the same. It started to reboot itself like almost everytime ((( and same with unlocked bootloader.... I had mine for 2 weeks. Now I wonder if its common issue with N5X... Did you send your to repair???
This just occurred on my phone. Working just fine with 80% battery. Started GMaps to get some directions. Hung for a couple of seconds then just turned off. Won't respond to button pushes and won't go into recovery mode either. It's like the phone is dead dead.
All these threads about 5xs dying. I guess I better really start saving for a op3t. ? I've had mine a year and it's been fine but from what I've gathered from reading, someone said that's when they usually bite it is a year+... ?
