I was using my nexus on facebok last night with a virtually full battery when fb stopped responding and a few seconds later the phone just switched off.I tried to restart it it but it would not come back on.I tried al combinations of buttons to try and reset but still nothing.I plugged the charger in to try, nothing.I left it on the side board,I forgot to leave the charger in all night.got up this morning plugged it in the charger and it turned on,left it for 5 mins unplugged the charger and it turned itself straight off again.I have a feeling that my battery has just instantly died, the phone is only about 3 weeks old at the moment.I will be charging it for a few hrs and see if it will come back alive.Fingers crossed it will. Its strange to go from a full battery to off in an instant.
Err did you try to pull the battery when the phone originally crashed.

I didn't pull out the battery as i didnt think it was nessasary. After a few hrs charge it came back on but it is worrying that this could have happened to such a new phone
This happened to my first nexus. Totally just randomly died.
I returned it as faulty.

Basically what happened was that when your phone "died" it actually stayed on but became unresponsive. Because you just left it for the whole night it drained the battery dry which is why you found it like that the next day.
Anyway next time when your phone crashes just do a battery pull and it should fix itself. The crash seems to be a common ICS bug and a few people have reported it. (including me) Hopefully Google fixes it soon.

it's not just because it's a nexus. it's been an issue with various android-based phones over the years. granted, not a common one... just somehow something 'screws up' and you have to do a battery pull to reset the issue.
I've run android for a while now and have had various lock ups, but this was totally different. It actually locked up and turned off and no matter what buttons for reset or just a normal boot would do anything the battery was totally flat and only a charge would do anything.i could not even boot into recovery as it was flat. Its going back fire a replacement in the next few days
One thing I have noticed since it happened is the battery life has gone terrible in that it is draining very very quickly yet nothing has changed on my phone
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I experienced this too yesterday. I was on call with headset and I had USB plug. Suddenly phone call ends and phone was dead. I have unplug from USB and pull battery.
Mine did exactly this while on charge last night. Pulled the battery and it fired up straight away. Second time its crashed since i got it. My iphone 4 only crashed once in the 18 months i had it. Guess android isnt as stable yet.
Happened to me yesterday, and then wouldn't charge. Did a battery pull then put it on to charge. When I got it back on checked Battery temp and it was 45C I think that was the issue. after half hour it was down to 31C.
Omg.. something like the G2X random reboots?
I just experienced the same problem. Using my phone and it just went black. First thought was to try powering it on. No luck. Second thought, pull the battery. No luck. Went back to my desk and plugged it into USB so it would charge. No indication it is charging. Tried turning it on. No luck. Leaving it for an hour or more and will see if that does the trick.
Googling to find this thread I actually found dozens of threads on various sites talking about this issue. Hopefully it is a bad batch of devices and quality control has rectified the situation.
Anyone have any successful resolution to this issue? I've been using my phone for around a month now.

I was internet browsing on MikG's Sense 2.1+3.0 rom, and suddenly, my phone just shuts off. So I pull off my protective case, then the back cover, thinking it was just overheated. It was warm, but not to the point where the fail safe kicks in and automatically shuts off the phone.
I've tried every fix that I could find, and nothing. I got it to turn on for a second maybe one or two times, and that's it. I have it plugged into my computer thinking maybe it's just really drained, even though I had a 90% charge. I don't think I have any other batteries to test it with (There's only my Evo, a Samsung Moment, and a LG Lotus Elite II).
So, any ideas?
Also, I bought this phone from Wirefly. Not sure if that really matters in the case of needing repairs or not.
My first guess is battery.
I ordered a new OEM one off Amazon. Hopefully it gets here before I leave for my trip.
Pull the battery and just plug into the wall. This would by pass the battery. Could have a bad charge port. Had that happen to mine. If all else fails smash it against a brick and say u fell on it to get a replacement

I tried pulling the battery and bypassing the battery entirely, but it didn't work.
Last night at about 12:30 in the morning, I plugged it into the wall, and fell asleep. A few minutes later I was woken up by the boot animation, and the phone is back on and working as normal again.
I'm still having the OEM battery shipped to me, just in case it is the battery, even the though the phone hasn't shut off once since then.

I had a similar issue with my old Touch Pro 2, It was the battery. Just food for thought.
So far the battery has held since the first incident. Won't have the new one till late next week probably.

USB charging doesn't always keep up with the phone. It only charges at .5a max. Use the wall charger to get the full 1a charge.
Where to begin....my phone would last about 9hr before this issues started happening. For some odd reason my indicator LED light won't shut off I had to download an app to turn it off. When I try to turn of the phone It will automatically turn on again but before it does it goes to the charging screen even thought the phone is not plug to an outlet. It all started happening after I used my friends LG charger i'm thinking maybe I damage something.

Looks like the phone isn't correctly reading the battery.
However, the symptom of the phone going into charging when off when it's not plugged in (phone thinking it's charging) is pretty common with the Samsung Replenish, and is almost always an indicator of a bad charging port. This could also explain the LED not going out (ie charging). We see it in our store alot. Your battery dying in 3 hours would make sense, as the phone isn't charging the battery correctly in this scenario.

I agree.. it seems to be the charging port on the phone. My wife's phone had a very similar problem. Her screen would turn on by itself, the led light would stay on all day, and battery only lasted about 2 hours. It would always freeze up too once in a while and when you turn it back on, the battery drained like 20% in a span of 5 mins. Her battery stats look very similar to yours, with all the spikes. On top of that, her phone kept going into driving mode or voice talk randomly. Her phone was rooted with the auto root procedure. I wanted to back up her phone with TiB regularly and put on adblock.. but otherwise everything was stock on her phone.
What I ended up doing was a factory reset. That cleared up the freezing issue and the screen turning on and off, but the battery stuff was still acting the same. I did a battery pull over night and cleaned the contacts of the charging port of the phone with a very small q-tip and toothpick. I also cleaned the battery terminals as well for good measure. Put the battery back on the phone and charged to full while the phone was off. First thing I did when I turned on the phone was to download the battery calibrator app and run the calibration. Her phone has been back to normal now for almost 3 weeks.

i'm not in a damp/humid area, my wife and I have the same phone. Mine has been okay with minimal issues. Although now that I think about it, she did spill some water on the table with her phone near by a week before her phone start acting up. She had a TPU case which protected it from most of the water, but maybe some of it got in through the headphone jack or charging port??
to the OP: maybe you can try this battery calibration method as well. Some people have reported success with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312273
I searched here and google and found various charging issues but none quite like what I am seeing. The night before last, I plugged my A100 in before bed like I normally do and saw the power light turn orange. In the morning, I unplugged it without even looking at the LED because I just expected it to have charged completely. When I got to my car and turned it on, it was at 32%. I thought maybe I had something running that was eating battery or I didn't plug it in all the way overnight so it didn't charge. I plugged it into the car charger and went to work. When I got to work it was still at 32% but I didn't use it the whole time so I thought that was odd. I pretty much didn't use it the whole day since I knew it was low on power and I didn't have a charger at work. I got home and saw that it was at 28% so I plugged it in. About an hour later, I checked and it was still at 28%. Thinking that was odd, I turned it off and left it charging with it off for an hour. Turned it back on an hour later and still at 28%. I spent a little time using it while plugged in trying to kill off apps and things but it drained to 18% even though it was plugged in, the power LED showed orange, and the battery icon on screen showed charging (lighting bolt). At this point I started to worry that something was seriously wrong. I turned it *off* and left it plugged in all night after checking to make sure the LED was orange. In the morning, the LED had turned off completely (not blue or orange). I turned it on and saw that it was still at 18% even after charging all night turned off. I unplugged and replugged and the LED came on orange again.
So here is where it gets really strange.. I decide to go through RMA process since I'm still under warranty. I don't want my private data on it when sending it to them so I do a wipe. On a whim, I plug it back in after the wipe and guess what? It's charging! What the heck?!?! I had thought maybe I installed something that was causing problems but since it wasn't charging even when turned off, I figured it couldn't be an app. Can an application cause the device not to charge even in the off state? I thought maybe my battery stats had gotten corrupted so the percentage readout wasn't accurate but right after wiping the data, the battery was reading 18% just as before the wipe.
Any thoughts? Anyone ever see anything similar? My gut says to RMA it still.
Reboot the device.
It's a bug that happened to me on Honeycomb all the time with A100. (No longer happens on ICS)
Did you actually read the OP?
Sent from my Acer Iconia Tab A100 using Tapatalk
Yes, multiple reboots didn't help. No charging even when off. Started charging after wipe. Very odd.
So, after my wipe, I set out to see if I could get it to fail again. I loaded a couple of apps that I had loaded a couple of days before this happened and it stopped charging again. Unloaded each of those apps and still no charging. Did another wipe and still no charging. Conclusion is it's busted and just randomly charges on occasion. Sending it in for RMA today. Still very odd that it was reliably charging after that first wipe.
I myself am experiencing exactally the same problem. Any fix found?
Sent from my A100 using xda premium
Similar thing happened to me. The only thing is I didn't realize it wasn't charging until it was too late and the battery was at 5%. After it shut off, the only way i could get it to turn on was by holding down the power button and plugging in the charger. It didn't get to try a data wipe (didn't have enough time lol). I sent it back and they replaced the system board. Said it was not recognizing the battery properly.
I own two tabs, and one had this issue, the fix is actually quite simple. Let the tab die. No battery life at all. Then, when your sure its dead, plug it back in, and let it charge to full. I haven't had the issue on the tab since.

any news guys? I bought a old ACER A100 and only power on while it plug in, so I went ahead and changed the battary, it still does not get charge.
Is the happening on complete stock? Or a custom ROM, if so, which one.
Also, reflash said ROM if applicable, and make sure the data is wiped.
I like the drain the battery idea, although its risky, these tabs can brick if it gets below 10%, current/voltage act weird when its low and blow a breaker inside and keep it from turning on.

What percent does it show the battery at while it's on?

My tab has the charging issue, but it is self inflicted. It was dropped, which cracked the lcd screen. I ordered one after a week or so and replaced it. At this point is when the charging issue cropped up. It powers on only if plugged in, and will get to 3% charge no matter how long it is plugged in. It will also only show the 3% if the charger is unplugged. It will then run for a few minutes until the battery dies. Also, the orange charge blinks about one minute after the charger is plugged in.
I found a reference on the web that if the battery charge gets too low the A100 can't charge it. I also found references that people had this problem, and Acer replaced the mb. I took a shot on the battery since it was a lot cheaper. Still the same. That doesn't the battery was not the issue since it was an ebay battery. So for now I just use it in the living room, plugged into outlet. Works good for that.

Ha! Found my own post by doing google query. Wow, didn't know this thread was still somewhat alive. So, I sent mine back as I mentioned in my last post back in February and they took a week and sent it back to me completely untouched. Basically said it was fixed but the same problem existed. I sent it in after a wipe but I did configure my wifi access point before I sent. When I got it back, my access point connected immediately and it still would not charge. I called them right back furious and demanded they provide shipping back to them because they clearly did nothing. They finally agreed and I shipped it back. After another two weeks of transit and repair time, I got my tablet back and this time it appeared to be fixed.
So, flash forward to 3 weeks ago. One morning I woke up and the tablet wouldn't power on. Black screen but the home "button" would light up when touched and power button would light up when plugged in and such. After several attempts to reset by holding down power button and using the recessed reset button, it was still not responsive. Tried up volume (and down volume) while powering pressing power button.. tried holding down reset button while pressing power button.. all with no result. Submitted rma request and was immediately granted without review. Sent it in and after about two weeks, got it back and it appeared to be working fine. Just this past weekend (about a week after I got the tablet back), I noticed that it was 3% after sitting on the charger for 2 days straight over thanksgiving. ARG!! Looks like another round of RMA here. I have not tried wiping but last time the charging issue happened, it was intermittent for about 2-3 weeks getting worse and worse before finally never charging. I am now near the end of my warranty period and I worry that if I send it back now, they will just turn it around and say it started charging after a wipe. What a piece of ... this is? This will be the 4th times in one year of ownership. I've almost spent the difference in cost between this tablet and other more expensive options in time and shipping alone.
I will try wiping it and then running it all the way down. Although I almost want it to fail hard right now so I can get it RMA'd before my warranty is up.
i had the phone running this morning with over 50% charge. i put it on charge to get it to the max before getting to work.. then the phone hanged and switched off..since it has happened before when the phone overheats, i thought it will reboot but since then its not detecting the charger. When i start charging the phones battery area heats up but the charging led is not seen. the dealer told me to charge it for an hour and try but that also didnt work..
any opinions or past experiences like this??
Can you boot into HBOOT? Power plus volume down.
Not sure if its the same thing but over the last 2 nights mine has done something similar and it is annoying the hell out of me!
On the first night as usual i switch my phone off (with about 10% battery left) and plug it in to the charger, wait for the charging light to come on, and go to bed. In the morning no light on and phone won't switch on? After a while of unplugging and plugging back in, pressing random buttons and head scratching the red light comes back on and i can start it up but the battery is completely flat and have to charge it up again?
Same thing happened again last night but this time i had about 50% battery??? Haven't looked into it properly yet as i thought it was a fluke but obviously its not! I'm running stock untouched phone so trying other roms etc isn't an option atm.
Will let you know if i find anything ;-)

When i woke up it had no light on and completely flat battery, it wouldn't switch on !!? Unplug the charger and plug it back in and then after a minute the charge light comes on and you can turn it on?? This is very annoying as last time it happened was at a weekend but i have to go to work now without a phone as I have no way to charge it :-(

So I'm having a problem where I drained my battery and the phone shut itself off with 1% to 2% battery life remaining. I've left it charging for a good 45 minutes now. Turned it on, and it reported 1%. Thinking that it was just a reporting error, I unplugged it, and the phone promptly shut itself off. Now another 30 minutes has passed, unplugged it, turned it on. The phone refuses to turn on! It will however show the battery charging animation, so I know it's not bricked or anything. I guess my only solution is to leave it charging while it's off overnight, even though I need to use my phone right now... That important person will have to wait :crying:
Edit: Works again... Though it does not show my battery life correctly. It says 15% when it's probably more like 2%.

Might want to use a different cable.. i have read that the cable and possibly even the wall adapter can be flakey.. if you have a spare cable try to use it instead of the lg one..
Original LG cable is fine. It's ever since I drained the battery it's started to act weird. I plugged it in at 3% in hopes of "calibrating" the batterystats and it was charging fine. Up till now. I caught a glimpse of my phone turn itself off while charging.
Now it's randomly decided to turn itself on and bootloop... And back to charging animation while off we go. What the hell? The battery isn't charging... Switching cables didn't help btw.
Found a third cable. Temporarily working..

Hmmm maybe the charger? Sounds to me like its not getting proper power hence the shutting down while plugged in.. but what do I know heh
I have the same problem. Plugged the phone in at about 3% and walked away. Came back an hour later to find it stuck in a loop of the LG logo and a black screen. I can sometimes get it into recovery, and from there see that the battery percentage will go from 0% to 15% and back to 0%. It's like the battery is bad.
I think it's a problem with the ROM/firmware where we can't drain it and hope to charge it up again..
I'm still running v1 of the jb release and last night I used my phone until it shut down at 2%, charged it up fine, and its been ok, knock on wood. One weird thing is that if I use the phone while on the charger, and I mean light tapatalk usage, the phone will drop to 99%, even while plugged in. Weird.

That's normal. When the phone is charged at 100% it stop charging to avoid the battery to be overcharged thus reducing it's durability.
Not charging again... My phone maintained a charge between 10% and 25% or so according to the battery usage graph. So I switched cables again. I went into the service menu and got a screenshot of the charging test this time. First pic is with the LG cable. Second is with a Samsung cable. Third picture is back with LG cable after the battery successfully got charged past the "low battery zone" with the Samsung cable.
I have a similar problem with the stock charger. After a few weeks of working perfectly, it just sopped charging my Optimus G.
Bizarrely, it charges my wife's Galaxy S2 HD LTE without issues.
And the charger from my Sony-Ericsson Xperia pro charges the Optimus without issues.
It's almost like the stock charger burns out something internally such that it doesn't output enough voltage/amperage/current.

So it happened again... But this time, it occurred in between 20% to 40% battery life while charging. It's probably the LG cable.. Gonna call support and ask for another.

I have a similar situation -- I powered down my phone one time at 5 %, did not wake up until one hour of charge, then last night tried again with about 40 % of battery left, same problem. I was wondering at first if the phone did not go to power down properly, and that the battery would drain through that, but then I just did another test with my battery at 30 %, and the phone did not want to restart until plugged in for 5 minutes.. It's almost as if the booting process is just this huge battery drain, sucking all the juice to start the phone in a peak of electrical rage.. anyway -- I noticed that yesterday, I was trying to restart the phone after a while, it would start to boot but it seemed it owuld just miss a little bit of juice to complete the process, then finally when it made it to screen it was at about 10 %..
Could it be that fix we used in the stock rom to get the screen at more than 65 %, and the cpu at 1512 mhz ? It seems more software related than hardware in my case, meaning I don't beleive it is the cable
Hate to revive an old thread, but as the new owner of an LGOG i just ran across this problem the other day. My phone has been able to go two day on a charge, and last week I forgot to charge it on night. Found it dead the next day. was leaving so I took it intending to charge at work or in the car. Car charger had no effect, but upper portion of phone got hot. plugged it in at home, same thing, charging icon, getting hot, but not charging. Also noted dim screen glow all the time.
tried 2o second hold on power button, vol up and down, got into the download screen and the bootloader screen, but no charge. Finally held the power button and vol. up and red charging light came on. Held it for a minute and the red charging light stayed on, let go out it went. Decided to try a couple of rubber bands around the phone to hold in the buttons, and it worked ---phone charged fully and operates as usual.
Thought I'd pass my experiance on to help anyone else with similar problem. Any idea why this worked?
I don't know, but I do know that getting to android 4.3 roms like the ones in Houstonn's thread have cured my O. G. from that, and from also constant and random camera reboot, and from also maps freaking out when plugged in in the car..

For anybody that runs into this problem
I had this problem and tried for hours and hours to fix it. When you stick the usb charger into your phone, it literally takes like 5 hours to charge 2% when it's in this state
So it never gets to a point of wanting to turn on because the phone gets too hot trying to charge
My solution: Put a bunch of ice in a bowl, then put something over that like a bag, aluminum foil, basically anything that would be a barrier between the ice and your phone to keep it from getting wet
Now let it charge with the phone sitting on top of that ice for a few hours(make sure to add new ice as it melts) and your phone will charge up enough that it can be fully turned on. Then just let it keep charging
This worked for me after trying other things for hours. If this didn't work i was gonna open the phone and pull the battery
After the last update I have not had this issue. I've run my phone dead a few times and now it always charges - no issue.

What update are you referring to? I don't get over the air updates. Mine is off contract.
