Update Bootloader on S3 SGH-I747M - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi
I had Intergalactic 3.0 ROM and decided to check back on the forums and found a update in the ROM wich upgraded Android v4.1.2 to 4.3, but I need a to upload the bootloader according to stratatak7 the ROM creator. He states that you need
Option A: MJ2 bootloader and MJB modem
Option B: Official MJB 4.3 bootloader and modem
Or you with loose data & wifi connection, I downloaded both files and I747MVLUEMK5 bootloader to update but i get the following error:
You cannot flash from your current bootloader
Current version: I747MUMBLL1
What can I do to update the bootloader or can I just update the modem to get wifi and data to work?
Baseband version is I747MUMLK3
Thanks!!

With my current Modem and bootloader and the new version of the ROM v4.1, I get phone calls, but no wifi or data, I tried different modems but all of them give me no reception, data or wifi.
I'm very confused with the bootloader thing, I don't see any updates for the one I have, Can I flash another one or I'm stuck with this?

The MJ2 and MJB are made for the i747, not the i747m.

[Q] Trouble to upgrade bootloader from MK5 to MJB to NE4

I've been serching for an answer for a while and can't seem to find a proper one that makes sure that I won't brick my phone. I've been flashing roms since 2011 and know pretty much the drill but lately I've been flashing at a couple months interval CM11 m builds and since I don't follow the threads like I used to, I feel like I'm missing out on how to do the right procedure.
So this is my phone:
Rogers i747 SG3
Cm11 4.4.4
Bootloader: I747MVLUEMK5
Baseband: I747MUMUEND3
I've installed these about a month and a half ago and since I've lost LTE networking but I didn't care to try to fix since I don't use it that much and left it like that.
This morning, I tried flashing MJB bootloader and modem zip in recovery but it gives me the classic error 7
Any Idea how to get out of this impasse? I've been searching all morning and can't find what I'm looking for...
I see you're in Montreal. Do you have the AT&T version of the s3; i.e. i747?
Your bootloader (MJB - 4.3 AT&T) and modem (ND3 - Telcel) appear to be mismatched. Maybe this is causing the loss of LTE connections.
What recovery are you using? Is it up to date?

I use Clockworkmod recovery 6.0.4.7 The latest version and Its an at&t i747 phone but with Rogers(same thing).
Is there other basebands or bootloaders I can maybe update with?
Sorry, I made a mistake. Your bootloader matches the modem for am i747m from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
Boot into download mode and look at the model number at the top.
Cool yeah it is a i747m you're right.
Once I install the latest (canadian) firmware, does that give me the possibility to flash mjb and the Ne4 to have access to the latest cm roms without any trouble? Not sure if i understand everything here...
Do not flash any firmware not specifically designed for the i747m. The mjb bootloader is for the i747 and flashing that on your phone would probably brick it.

Well thanks for the link. I updated my firmware and played with the apn and now the LTE works again and hitting an 80 mb download... pretty crazy.
So are you saying that a i747m would not be able to flash cm12(lollipop) which states in the nightly thread that it needs a NE4 bootloader/modem?!
You can determine which bootloaders are supported by CM12 by downloading CM12 and looking at the updater script in Notepad. The first few lines will list the supported bootloaders.
The latest stock firmware for the i747m can be found at sammobile.com. This firmware is flashable in Odin and would include the bootloader, modem, and the dreaded Knox.

[Q] New to AT&T S3, have a few quick questions

I just bought an AT&T S3 to replace a carrier unlocked T-Mobile S3. The new device is already rooted with CM11 installed and it's baseband is MG2. I'll need to revert back to stock temporarily to do a carrier unlock. Here are my questions:
What is a safe TW (preferrably a pre-rooted TW) I can flash to perform the carrier unlock?
After I'm carrier unlocked, what is the latest modem I can install? I want to do all of this without enabling knox.
Thanks to all in advance,
Niphoet
Flashing back to stock means everything will be wiped on the phone, including recovery and data.
You can use Odin to flash the stock ATT 4.1.1 firmware from sammobile.com. Before doing so, boot into download mode and make sure you there is nothing about warranty bit on the screen.

There ae several important things to know about upgrading your modem and firmware.
1) KNOX comes with all of the firmware since the officlal 4.3 release, MJB. The leaked version of the 4.3 release (MJ2) does not have KNOX.
2) Once on the MJB and later firmware you can no longer downgrade, you will most probably brick your phone.
3) It is possible to run the MJ2 firmware/bootloader and MJB modem combination on 4.3 and 4.4.x ROMs.
4) The MJ2 and MJB bootloader will most likely require a custom kernel if you use it on 4.4.x ROMs. Something like the kToonez kernel or iBuddler kernel found in Likewise.
5) Once you get past the 4.3 firmware do not mix firmware and modem release versions, again bricks are probably. If you have NE4 firmare, use the NE4 modem. The same goes for for if you have the NE4 modem, use the NE4 bootloader. This holds true for NH2, NJ1, and NKx.
6) The only time I have seen that you absolutely must be on NE4 or newer is for the Lollipop ROMs.

The OTA updates will not work once you are no longer running a stock ROM with most, if not all, of the stock apps and the stock recovery. If you were still with AT&T I would suggest reverting to stock to enable you to receive OTA updates to 4.4.2. I am not sure if you could update over wifi while on a stock rom but not on AT&T.
Since you are no longer with AT&T the best would be upgrading bootloader and modem incrementally. There are 4.4.x roms that will run on the MJB (4.3) bootloader and modem as long as you have one of a few custom kernels installed, both TouchWiz and CM/AOSP ROMs. Some other 4.4.x roms say you need to be on at least the NE4 bootloader. There are stock based recovery flashable zips in the development subforum. Most of these will not upgrade your bootloader and modem, you would need to upgrade them separately. However, there are a few that will upgrade the bootloader and modem.
What is your current bootloader and modem? We would need to know this in order to point you to a correct starting point for your upgrade path. (You already stated that your device model is the i747, so I will not pester you about it not being another of the S3 variants.)

S3 has no data service!

I installed this new rom on my unlocked galaxy s3 i747 (at&t) and i use it on tmobiles network. the rom is S3Rx 4.0 TouchWiz 4.4.2 UCUFNE4 (11-9-14) link is provided
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...x-4-0-touchwiz-4-4-2-ucufne4-8-12-14-t2848080
After i installed it i lost all data service and cannot make any calls. I even installed my previous rom which was cm12.1 nightlies and flashed the latest modem I747UCUEMJB but it still did not do anything. Does anyone know what i can do to get back my data/calling service
You need to be running the latest 4.4.2 bootloader and modem to work with the latest custom ROMs.

can you send me information on what bootloader to download and modem?
Easiest way to get info about your phone would be to install the Samsung info app from the play store. The app will tell you the bootloader and modem on the phone.

AT&T Galaxy s3 switched to T-mobile = hotspot not working (modem/baseband upgrade???)

AT&T Galaxy s3 switched to T-mobile = hotspot not working (modem/baseband upgrade???)
The phone in question is a 100% stock AT&T galaxy s3.
Android = 4.4.2 Baseband = 1747UCUFNJ2 ROM=Stock
The hotspot worked fine on AT&T's network, quit working once we switched to T-mobile. The phone connects to network just fine (internet works), but when I enable hotspot I get the error "mobile data is off or invalid sim", even tho the mobile data is on and connected. I believe it is due to the baseband/modem but I am not sure?
I would like to upgrade to 1747UCUEMJB or 1747UCUFNE4 but am not 100% of the process and fear bricking the phone (It is not mine).
I remember doing this on a dif s3 a very long time ago, and I had to upgrade to MJB then upgrade to NE4 in succession. Is this still the way to go?
Also, the phone is not rooted and has an older stock recovery. Can I just throw the baseband file on the sdcard, boot into stock recovery and flash? Or should I use Odin?
Also, is there a way to back up the entire phone without a custom recovery or root in case I screw something up? I tried using galaxy s3 toolkit, but when I try to "install an insecure boot image to enable adp" (have to do this to backup it says) it hangs on "waiting for USB debugging to be enabled" even tho it is on for sure.
Thanks in advance for any help guys!
The safest way to update to the latest stock ROM may be to flash a stock ROM from Sammobile.com and run ota updates until the phone is running the latest ROM.
You mention mjb and nj2. Which ROM is on the phone? Mjb is older than nj2.

Baseband = 1747UCUFNJ2
ROM = STOCK
I did not realize MJB is older than NJ2....I suppose I just need to flash NE4 then?
I cannot do OTA updates as it was an AT&T phone and now were on T-mobile and when I try an OTA update it errors out trying to connect to AT&T servers.
TY for your reply!
Is the phone rooted?
Nj2 is newer than ne2 as j comes after e.

Oops I missed that lol, thank ya sir.
So I guess the baseband is not the problem? No it is not rooted.
T-mobile tech support said they couldn't make the tethering and hotspot turn on even though it is active on the account. I have a rooted s3 with cm13 and the tethering and hotspot works fine. But this is my fathers phone and its 100% stock non-rooted. Was just trying to figure how to make the hotspot work, but I have no idea what it could be now if its not the baseband....hmm, thoughts?
If the phone is 100% stock and the baseband is nj2, then the bootloader should also be nj2 as OTA updates and Samsung firmware update both at the same time.
As some s3 owners have discovered, flashing an incompatible baseband or bootloader can hard brick the phone.
You could flash a custom recovery to the phone and then flash a custom ROM to see if that helps. Before flashing a custom ROM, you should backup the existing ROM and all partitions using TWRP in case you want to restore.
