I found that if I tried to odin a recovery (I was using team win) it will work again. First you need to pull the battery and get it back into download mode. Then try to install recovery via odin. It didnt give me root nor a custom recovery but it brought me back to a non brick phone.
Download stock firmware, put your phone in Odin mode and flash that. Then you will need to flash the cf file again for root

Seeing how I just purchased 2 days ago. Might have to pay restocking fee ;-(

What version of odin are you using? and what do you have checked? Auto-reboot should be the only one checked and you should be using odin 3.9

Yea I actually tried Odin 3.7/3.8/3.9 I also tried unzipping .tar directly to the C:/ drive instead of desktop. In case of any administration issues.
But in the end I was able to put in the model and serial number into Kies, put phone in download mode to get firmware from Kies.
The funny thing is, just by me trying and unsuccessfully rooting the phone. I tripped the Knox warranty 0x1. Odin only 25% uploaded Cf-root before failing. Lol

You shouldn't have to use Kies. just follow these steps. 1- put your phone in download (odin) mode. 2- connect it to your computer and run odin 3..09. 3- The only thing that should be checked is 'Auto Reboot' and as far as files it should say 'TMB-N900TUVUCNB4-20140305155920. Once you extract the file (I just put it on my desktop so it was easy to find) Then it should be about 2,178,541 KB in size....so like 2.1 GB. Choose that file after extracted and click the option of AP. His start and you should be back to factory settings, then worry about re rooting your phone. . Does that make more sense?

I should of read your title more carefully, is your phone still bricked? Or are you just trying to root it now?

Like "freakboy13" said, "If you can get into DL mode, you're golden." Don't worry it just takes patience and you have to keep trying.
1. First, you want to find a stock ROM only (normally 836MB zipped and around 1.42 unzipped)
2. Make sure you're using a domestic ROM, not International and make sure you're using your model number. Do you have AT&T? if so search for - SAMSUNG SGH-I317. If not search for the one you need.
3.Flash it using Odin. I used Odin 1.87 I believe, I didn't have to use 3.07.
4. Let us know how it goes. I had to do it twice and it worked so be patient.

You should do a bit more reading before attempting to use odin. Using odin is not for newbs. Dont just dl apps snd flash stuff with out understanding whats going on. Mobile odin goomanager is great, just know whats actaully going on.
What you a should do is go back to stock via efr. Heres my guide with pics.

now boot.img there is no indication of anything on the phone or the computer?
I tried it with Odin3.185 and it failed almost immediately.
why is it taking so long?
It has been on Boot.img for about 30 minutes now with no indication...

I pulled the cable and reset all.
I then did the same process with my phone in error mode now (the error that says to hook to kies , this is download mode but not the traditional mode).
With it in this mode it worked.
I don't know. This is two different devices that have not worked until the kies error has appeared.
Maybe my cable is starting to fail. I will get a new Samsung rated USB cable. I am sure they wear out eventually.
I got it and thanks for your input!

What does voiding Knox mean? Boot loader flag goes from 0x0 to 0x1
Notes about Knox:
FLASHING A: CUSTOM KERNEL or CUSTOM RECOVERY on MK3 boot loader VOIDS KNOX
CANNOT DOWNGRADE TO OLDER FIRMWARE!
Composed of an OS side and firmware (bootloader-side) implementation. Apps (OS components) can be removed, but the firmware components CANNOT.
You can still root on the new firmware...but you can't flash a custom recovery or custom kernel, or else you will trip Knox
First!!!!
Damn we need a way to get rid of KNOX!!!!!!.... LOL

Is it any way to flash stock recovery and make unrooting by supersu itself?
If you already have a stock rom and recovery installed and you don't have an sd card handy, it's easy to update the zip using ADB sideload. Assuming you have used ADB before and know how to use it on your computer
Download the file and rename it something easy like "update.zip"
reboot the phone into recovery by pressing volume up, home, and power
select the option to update via ADB
plug in phone to computer with USB cable
on your computer open a terminal window and if you want to make sure the ADB connection works type "ADB devices" you should see some numbers listed followed by "sideload"
flash the file by typing "adb sideload update.zip" if you named it update.zip that is, then press enter
once it's done hit the power button to reboot
profit??

Anyone to revert back to 4.2?
You can go down to 4.1.2 (we never got 4.2) but it is not something most people want to try. You can end up in a soft brick state where nothing will boot and no stock odin files will work. Then you have to flash a special fix to make your phone usable.
So why would you want to try that? If you just want stock odin the current NE2 tar from samsung.

Getting back to stock cont. . .
Soooo,
I was on a mission to flash custom kernel when all hell broke loose. Long story short list:
1. I have done a system wipe which has erased my OS
2. My device was rooted with the binary count tripped so I can't revert to stock rom *
3. I can't go back to the custom rom that I was on because there's no OS *
* = is this true
Question is, is there a way to either reset the counter so I can go back to stock rom OR get a custom rom that has the stock framework underneath already that I can just flash?
I'm totally stuck. . .and I dropped my phone in the middle of this debacle and cracked the screen

Did you try flashing a custom recovery through Odin yet? I would suggest trying to flash philz latest version through Odin.
Turn off auto reboot in Odin. Once it's complete, pull the battery. Put the battery back and and reboot into download mode (power+home+volume down buttons at the same time)
Edit. Before doing the above, have you unzipped the tar file on your pc?

Yup, I've unzipped the tar file. I've been in and out of the latest TWRP and stock recoveries with no luck so far, but I haven't tried philz yet. And I'll remember to turn off the auto reboot and see if this method will allow me to get the tar file flashed
Thanks, I'll let you know

SUCCESS!!!!!!
Philz did the trick, initially the ROM wouldn't install but I ticked the update binary option and VOILA!
Philz is my new recovery, and now that I know it works. . .I may even get back to trying out my pegasus kernel lol
Thanks for the assistance!
Okay so I have a huge problem here. The 4.4 update had release yesterday for galaxy s4 owners. I tried to update it once and the download had finished, restarted my phone and it said install failed. My phone keeps telling me my phone has been modified so I can't download the 4.4. I checked the status and it says custom. Now I bought this phone the other day off a guy from Craigslist so I'm guessing he rooted the phone. Idk what to do help. I just want the 4.4 on my s4 ??
You are rooted you will need to Odin back to stock
Sent from my SGH-M919 using XDA Free mobile app
Download the newest firmware from general thread and flash it with Odin

do I have to do it from the computer and how do I do that lol
Yes, computer is required and you can search XDA forums for the several threads which give detailed instructions for the Odin option. Kies emergency firmware recovery might work too though.

wow that was so helpful. guess i'll just intuit what that means.
BACKUP everything will be wiped. Now download official firmware from sammy or xda (id odin my current firmware then ota but either way). Download drivers for your pc. Download odin 3.09 software. Power phone into download mode. Open odin, plug your phone in(in download mode) make sure odin recongized it(should see com port 3 or w.e) and locate a tab called AP, click it and find the tar file....wait for md5 check, auto reboot and something else cant remeber right now will be checked by default, just leave it. Start...wait....profit.

What is your android version anyway? Has knox beeb voided? (Power off, hold power and volume down, read and press volume up to enter download, look for something like KNOX 0x1 VOID in upper left corner) 4.4.4 is nothing special. Better off staying on 4.4.2 rooted because you cant root after update without voiding knox. Even though you may not want to root, you should. Youll lose sd write permission etc with the update. Ideally you want 4.2.2 then manually upgrade.
