Hi everyone,
Have just purchased a new Galaxy Y here in China and restored to original factory settings however everything is in Chinese which isn't a problem as I can change the language to English however all the default Google Apps are missing and replaced with Chinese equivalents it seems so I'm unable to use them.
So... how can I restore it to a version of Android something functional for me? I'm on mac os x lion with vmware for any windows apps I need and am computer literate enough to attempt anything like flashing a device / updating a rom but have no idea where to start with this. Have read some docs on Odin but they made little sense at first because I don't quite know what steps I need to take in order to carry out this task. I've found various Roms but these are India, Netherlands, Greece versions, does anyone know of a UK version?
Any pointers would help greatly, thanks in advance!
Update: Just came across http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800 so am reading through here however I'm not sure which ROM to go for, the European pack work with sim cards in Asia?

first thing that the initial setup offers after full reset, is to change the language. It's the button on the the right hand side of the screen. if you press the green android, it's too late. then you must navigate to language setup by memory.

I've changed the language but it's a custom Chinese rom as China bans everything google so I need to get it on a normal UK Android setup or something, maybe the European pack from the aforementioned link?
Current versions as follows:
PDA: S5360ZCKK2
PHONE: S5360ZCKK2
CSC: S5360ZHKK2

Thank you for this, am just looking at Docky's stock roms now. Seems like the phone isn't locked to any specific network as accepts both Hong Kong and UK sim cards at the moment. I'm a little confused about setting the CSC and provider/region stuff after flashing it, basically I'm in Asia for the next 10 months and will have various sim cards from different countries and want them all to work. Possible do you think? Or will I have to flash to country specific firmware/csc relative to the sim card I'm inserting?

Well, Im in Asia country too. I tried Docky's Custom ROM which is based on XX which is European firmware and my phone works together with the SIM provider and network. So, the CSC is basically the language supported by your phone (based on my experience). Thus, Im sure you can use European firmware when you are in Asia country

Small world hehe I'm currently downloading S5360_XXLA2_OXXLA2_XXLA2_by_Doky.zip which seems to be the latest european multilingual build so hopefully that will do the trick. I'll let you know how I get on, thanks for the tips.

Cool. Cant wait to hear from you soon. Good luck
I think the simpliest way to solve this is to update its firmware via samsung kies, besides its the official update you can get and you'll be sure it'll be safe. Ive updated mine through this method and havent tried the ODIN thing. Good luck though

Woo hoooo I have a working phone, or should I say a phone which I can understand. It took a while because I couldn't find a decent internet connection where I was but having found one the process, following Doky's instructions, was painless - what a result! Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I really appreciate all the posting which is done on this site, and it has helped me many times (as I often act as the 'family' technician who can fix things).
But this time, I inherited a bricked Vietnamese Galaxy Young. The issue I have is that event though I installed ODIN in its most recent release, the phone in DOWNLOAD mode is not recognized on the 2 computers I usually use on other Samsung phones.
Is there an Asian-specific driver which needs to be used?
Alas, the phone was backed up using the CWM backup, but it refuses to boot into CWM (just hangs at logo). The only mode it boots into is Downlaod mode. But it need to be recognized correctly before Odin can do anything
Thanks for suggestions

make sure samsung usb drivers are installed - use rear usb ports not front ones and you can try a different usb cable (there is no specific regional driver just a generic samsung usb driver)
once in download mode connect usb cable to pc
push vol up on phone to start connection (wait a 30 secs in case drivers start installing)
open odin 3.07
if it is connected it will say com then a number in a coloured box under com:id on the left hand side
HI Everyone,
Forgive me if this seems like a long post. I am old software developer, so reasonably computer savvy, but not so much with cell phones.
My problem: My wife (Chinese) was visiting china from Canada and thought it would be a good idea to buy herself new Huawei Mate 20 X and P20 Pro. She thought she could just bring them back and everything would work. As we all know the Chinese have severe access restrictions to many things here in North America, especially Google. So not a matter of just power up and let's get going, nothing really works.
What I know: I figured out I could just download some firmware and flash the phone with something local. I thought this would be easy, but there are some problems that I am not understanding.
MY QUESTIONS:
1. What is the difference between EVR-L29 and EVR-AL100 firmware. From what I understand if I download the stock EVR-AL100 and install I would be right back to where I am now. Is this correct? Is one Chinese and the other global? Are both compatible on this same phone?
2. Can I upgrade the firmware or install new firmware without the bootloader code?
3. Is there a way to get the bootloader unlock code?
4. Is there a way to get around the bootloader code?
5. Finally, is there firmware that you recommend for this phone and my use and can point me to the download links.
Thanks

I will try to answer your questions with my limited knowledge about this phone so you might want to read more to learn more about these topics.
1) EVR-L29 has google apk installed without chinese apk. EVR-AL00 has a lot of chiness apks which you can uninstall just by using the app manager in the settings menu. I have an EVR-AL00 model and use it without problem. You can install google apk yourself. If you want to get rid off all the unwanted apk you can follow the instruction from this website
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-x/how-to/guide-remove-apps-adb-t3870727
2) You can upgrade the firmware through normal update without the bootloader code. Other than that you need bootloader unlock.
3) You could get the bootloader unlock code from this site
https://funkyhuawei.club/bootloader
In the past the cost is $20, however the service is not available now. You might be able to get the unlock code from another vendor.
4) I do not know of a way to get around the bootloader code
5) If you have the phone with unlock bootloader you can try the following rom:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-x/development/rom-mate-20-x-global00ized-beta-t3892304
I prefer and I am using the following KangVip 200 rom:

More Info
Thanks for the info, but a few more things.
First uninstalling apps from setting was my first thought, but some always seemed t be locked, but did not try removing from shell commands and will try this,
I could not find a GoogleApps package that did not seem to be Chinese and I could not seem to install it because google play was blocking it, even though google play could not been seen as an app to uninstall.
Finally, I am guessing there is no Update from L29 to AL100... in fact I can find no update packages. THe KangVip you referenced appear to complete Firmware Packages and not upgrades.
Thanks Again

I have ordered the same model so I'll be going through the same process as you when it arrives lol
Have you managed to debloat it and change or remove the stock launcher yet ?
When I get mine, I'll be trying to get the Google maps, assistant , YouTube, location history working and Google feed working instead of the Huawei preinstalled crapware so I'm sure between us we will be able to make a decent phone out of it
I don't know if Google pay will ever work but I don't use it now anyway so that won't bother me much anyway
What firmware version are you currently working with?
Camera
The front camera adds a portrait super night scene, and the front camera self-timer is switched in the “night scene” mode to obtain high-quality night self-timer.
Gallery
Added gallery video editing feature to manually create personalized videos.
Fingerprint Recognition
Optimize the fingerprint recognition mechanism, it is recommended that you re-enter the fingerprint to enhance the experience.
Communication
By default, China Telecom’s VoLTE HD voice call function is enabled (this service needs to be activated).
Bluetooth
Added support for HUAWEI X Gentle MonsterEyewear smart glasses to bring you a stylish and technologically friendly gaming experience.
Safety
Integrated Android 2019 August security patch
Although Googling it says it came out last month I only just got it yesterday
https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-p30-update-night-mode-front-camera/
im in the USA, i needed to get it via firmware finder, im guessing we would have been one of the last regions to get the update
Emui 10 beta
Emui 10beta in Germany

Mine is the ELE-L09, no idea what these model numbers mean yet though, coming from Samsung I have no knowledge of Huawei phones yet
Don't even know how to flash new firmware yet, or where to find it, seems a lot more complicated than using Odin on Samsung

If it came as an OTA update, there should be an icon in the notification area allowing you to install it now. Otherwise, you can launch Software Update from the apps drawer.

Thanks yea I already got it, I am the OP of this thread
Was just saying with my S9 there was one tool to download the firmware and one tool to flash it, just had to put the phone in download mode, from what I've read so far it doesn't seem to be that simple with the P30
For example some regions for the S9 would receive the update before others, but they were compatible with each other, so we could download that region and flash it until our own arrived, then flash back, with the P30 I'm reading things about editing config files and changing DNS and all sorts of weird stuff to just get the firmware in the first place, and flashing wipes the phone clean, where the S9 you could flash and not lose anything
Lots of reading to do

very good thread for that here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
the 3 different ways i have done it were 1) temporarily updating dns temporarily in my router and installing the download from erecovery
2) downloading the update file and installing it from my sdcard
3) downloading a hacked hisuite, adding dns to the host file for on my laptop, and then installing it through the hacked hisuite. this method seemed to be the easiest and most reliable, instructions in this post:

EDIT - Bit stuck on this part
4. Open FF (any, I like the smartphone to register - less action)
Looking for a permitted Android 9 for your device on the principle: device_model-LGRP2
Don't really understand what they mean by that, just search for a firmware version for my model device? But how to register?

are you using the android app or the windows app?
if you are using the windows version open it, click on the "common base"near the top right, then you need to type your model type in (which you can find in your phones settings) mine is ELE-L29, click the search icon and you will see the firmware upgrades available for your model.
then right click the firmware you want to test (you always want to chose the FullOTA-MF
firmware options) and click check firmware access. if you get the result firmware is approved, click ok and then right click again on the firmware you just tested and chose copy.
then click the icon above named DNS update (the name of the icons show up when you put your mouse over it)
in the popup right click in the editable field and it paste, then right below it click register, once this is done the Team MT server will have registered your IP address and will know to send it the firmware that you just registered.
after you have done this you will be able to use either option 1 or 3 that i posted above
it may actually be easier to register on the phone but i found step 3 the easiest which you will need your pc for anyway. i left my phone in the car and cant remember the steps exactly enuf to try to explain them for the phone app
it doesn't matter how you register the firmware, via phone app or pc app, except that on the phone you will need to be using wifi to register your ip address

Hi guys, im alil confused on how to update the phone correctly. So i thought i had an Indian S9, how exactly would i confirm that? Is it a good idea to check my IMEI from those IMEI check sites - they seem kinda dodgy.
Main reason being i read that if i dont install the correct A10 package for my phone - i wont receive updates and i'd like that to be automatic. ATM i think i have the Netherlands version running on my S9
Thanks

post your entire IMEI up in your next reply. Kidding, never do that. The IMEI checking sites are actually pretty accurate, but if youre unsure, almost all the major players will offer the same service on their sites too, they just call it something else. You can also go into the about phone section and irrespective of whats currently installed, itll tell you how it left the factory

Hello!
I'm desperately in need of original kdz. I crossflashed it to European kdz, and discovered, that modem/voice part stopped working at all.
I have worked my way trough all publicly available files, and all suffer same problem, no connectivity, I'm getting instant error when searching for operators, so basically modem is bricked.
If someone could share a link for a kdz, or the file, preferably Oreo (I can upgrade to Pie later, if it's required), I'd be very happy.

did you solve your problem?
I, too, foolishly flashed the phone with European firmware, hoping that I can always return to stock, but I can’t find q850qm
I am still fighting, but see light at the end of tunnel.
First, LG Europe (as I am located in Europe) has been extremely unhelpful. This is in stark contrast to my other interactions with them I had so far.
Second, I have recently located a repair shop which claims they actually have means to repair it. I'm sending them my phone today or tomorrow, depending on my time, and they should be done with it in a week.
I will report if they succeeded, and if they do I will try to rip the secret out of them.
