[Q] Only finds AT&T network - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

PLEASE HELP
My Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889) has been flashed with mr Robinson's "root66_TMO_T889UVUCMK7_2.7z" (baseband T889UVUCMK7)
The phone boots fine to version 4.3. I have a T mobile sim card in it
Device info is
Kernel version 3..031-2085660
Build #: JSS15J.T889UVUCMK7
Network mode is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)
When I search for all available networks i only get AT&T (I need T mobile)
I have another Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889) flashed with the same mr Robinson's. Same settings, when I search networks it finds them all (T mobile, AT&T)
Is the phone that only get's AT&T network locked to AT&T? or could there be other reasons (it is an SGH-T889)
I was reading that if you flash T889UVALJ1 (4.1.1) you can unlock the phone (although I don't know if it is locked, how can you find out?)
I tried loading it but I think the 4.3 boot loader stopped it from working.
Should I get a custom boot loader on the phone? is so how do I do this (I read something about goo manager?)
Please provide details as I am a newbie.
is there something else I should be looking at or doing?

If it were an att note 2 it would not be the SGH-T889 it would be i317. What does your APN settings show? if you are on the 4.3 bootloader I don't think you can use odin to go back to uvalj1. if you want to unlock I have heard of people only flashing the uvalj1 modem and having success. Custom bootloader? Do you mean custom recovery? you can download that from goo manager. Do you not have a recovery installed (CWM, TWRP)?

APN = T-Mobile US LTE fast.t-mobile.com
I do not have a recovery installed (only Note 2 standard recovery?)
How would I download custom recovery from goo manager?
Can you lock an SGH-T889 to AT&T? (if so, how do I flash uvalj1 modem(?
Could anything else be causing it to only recognize AT&T network (and not T-mobile)?

Install the app and open it. Tap menu then hit Install OpenRecoveryScript. Tap Yes. Verify that the filename displays your device's code name and hit Yes. The file will download and your device will reboot and install the recovery automatically. source: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/123
once you have the recovery you can flash the modem
I have not heard of locking a tmobile phone to att but I could be wrong. Are you not getting service at all?

Not to be goofy, what is the model number printed on the sticker under the battery?
When you boot into download mode, what model does it show on the screen?
Edit:
Go into the dialer. Dial *#2263# and tell us what setting the asterisk is next to, automatic is the preferred one. Check and see if you can tell which bands are selected in the various GSM/WCDMA/LTE selections. I don't think you can, but it couldn't hurt to look.

[Q] At&t to T-Mobile

Here's the issue. I purchased the At&t s3 (SGH-I747) last year. Long story short, I wanted to go to T-Mobile prepaid with the same phone.
I purchased the SIM activation kit for $10, popped my SIM in and it worked!
Before I put the SIM in it though, I paid for an unlock code. I still have the code.
No 'Network Unlock' screen.
No prompt for my unlock code.
I am getting H+ speeds with the at&t s3 on T-Mobile prepaid without doing ANYTHING.
My question is:
Why cant I get to the unlock screen? I have tried to dial "#7465625*638*# for the prompt to popup and NOTHING.
Can someone tell me...
1. Can I flash a T-mobile rom to this phone? (every time i try I get a build.prop error, even after changing the model to the T999 and all that jazz),
so I can't install a T-Mo rom?
2. Do I have to flash a modem/radio or anything else like that?
3. Or, should I just continue to flash At&t Roms with the t-mo prepaid sim?
I have searched for a while now, and noone has my problem. I never expected to just switch sim's and it would work, so ANY help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

since your device is still an AT&T branded Galaxy S III (SGH-i747), you must keep with ROMs designed for that phone. flashing T-Mobile branded Galaxy S III (SGH-T999) ROMs will brick your device, same thing goes for flashing modems.
just because your SIM and Carrier is now T-Mobile, doesn't mean your phone is.

Wrong. Flashing an rom meant for the AT&T variant of the S3 on a T-Mobile variant S3 and vice versa will not brick the device. APN setting may get messed up and you have to enter them manually but it will not brick the device. Flashing a ROM for the international S3 on a U.S. variant of the S3 and vice versa will brick the device.
I wouldn't recommend flashing modems between the variants of S3s, that may or may not brick the device but wouldn't try it.

(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone

Hello.
If you have signal then why are you trying to use the code? It is unlocked already!
im not an expert but this is what i know from reading a lot:
1.- I installed a t-mobile (t999) rom modified to work in a att s3 (i747), i think you can flash a any rom from the t999 section (i am not sure about this)
2.- Do NOT try to install a modem from t-mobile or you will hard brick your phone.
3.- Thats a good idea, do it and let me know if it works.
I used this files to convert an i747 to a t999 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771021&page=25 (read from post #246) so now i use customs roms for the t999 i did it because where i live do not have good signal, was stuck at edge and with those files now i have 3g signal.
Btw, i am in the $30 prepaid t mo plan.

#1: If you have a Unlocked AT&T I747 Galaxy S3 you don't need any files to convert it to work on any T999 Tmobile roms.
#2: You can use any T999 Tmobile custom roms as long as you have an Unlocked & Rooted AT&T Galaxy S3 I747 Phone.
#3: There is no such thing as installing or flashing any files which would would change the frequency for 3G on a I747 phone.

That is not true. Before following these instructions ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771021&page=25 ) I could NOT install any t-mo rom as CWM verifies the make/model before installing the rom.
Hence, me having the 'installation cannot continue' build.prop=d2att.
So, now AFTER flashing the 4 files, I was able to install 3 different T-Mobile ROMS. XTREMEPERIA ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199018 ) was the only one that is giving me 4G. I know, I know, its all in the APN settings, but this is the only one that gave me truly 4G speeds with a T-Mo sim.

You are right, clockworkmod (Rom Manager) does verify, however if you select
and flash the Tmobile T999 recovery image when flashing clockworkmod recovery
all is fine.
Another thing, if you have a unlocked i747 and flash any Tmobile cwm zip file rom as
soon as it reboots and you check the network in the phones settings it will display
"T-Mobile US" and will work properly without the need of any other files or conversions.
However the Unlocked I747 will never work with Tmobile's 3G or 4G networks.

You need to specify that you are using an engineering image that T-Mobile used on the 747 before the T-999 was available to test the device. In general if you flash a T-Mobile radio image to a 747, you risk losing calls and data at minimum and a hard brick at worst. It is imperative to make sure to point out that it only works with THAT engineering set.

Ahh...gotcha. Thats what it states in THAT OP, I just thought that once that build was on the phone, from that point on, any T-Mo anything would work. I did have the watermark on my wallpaper, but everything else said 't-mobile'.
But, yes in general, if you flash TMO onto AT&T, there be dragons.
Thanks all, and happy flashing!
Even with that configuration, the only thing T-Mobile you can flash is recovery and custom ROMs. A T-999 baseband or boot loader could very well cause a brick. Its a dangerous hack because it has everyone confused. For all intents and purposes, it is 747 software with T-Mobile's AWS capability. In fact it doesn't even seem to have DC-HSPA, only HSPA+ (21mbps versus 42). It has the benefit of supporting T-Mo LTE though.
Awesome

It doesn't make sense for T-Mobile to refarm their LTE. The 1700 AWS band is the most efficient spectrum they currently own and the AWS spectrum is going to be the most compatible across LTE networks. T-Mobile has pretty much no chance of ever getting the 700MHz that at&t and Verizon are using.

[Q] Unlocking phone

Hey guys,
Looking for some help here. For what ever reason the unlock code that T-Mobile sent me does not work - resulting in T-Mobile giving me a $200 credit which is nice, but I would still like to get my phone working with ATT.
I have downgraded to 4.1.1 to do the free unlock methodhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34661189, but my baseband is still at UVUCMK7. I have tried rebooting the phone into recovery mode and installing Stock-TMO-T889UVALK8-Kernel.zip but although it says it was successful, the baseband is not changed.
Any ideas? Help?
Thanks

When I follow the unlock code it works all the way through to where they say go back to NETWORK LOCK and choose option 4. Option 4 is not there.
When I reboot with the ATT sim it simply asks me for the network unlock code.
So Baseband is still: UVUCMK7, Android version is 4.1.1, Kernel is 3.0.31-598701

Once the device is unlocked you will need to go back to an LTE enabled modem. Your previous radio would be your most likely solution.

I have a T-mobile Samsung Note 2 (SGH-T889), that I'm trying to unlock. I have downloaded the file from the links listed here on XDA. I have already downloaded Odin307 and the Samsung USB driver. My problem is Everytime I put connect the phone, open Odin, and put the phone in download mode and add the file to Odin then while it says Please Wait.. (just a few seconds after adding the file) then Odin has Not Responding come across the top. I have deleted all the things I downloaded and re-downloaded them after it did that a few times and its still doing it. I have tried the downloads from different sites and it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Can Anyone Please Help me?
Thanks to Anyone who will take the time to help me.

[Q] Sim Unlocking on 4.4 ROM (SlimKat)

I've got SlimKat up and running on a former AT&T Galaxy S3. None of the sim unlock codes that I've tried have triggered a response and reverting back to the stock ROM sounds like it will probably brick the device.
Suggestions?
In order to unlock the phone by code, you need to be running a stock or stock-based ROM.
What bootloader is on your phone?
Recovery is working fine, but I'm not sure how to get the specifics of the bootloader on this device --
PhilZ Touch: 6.26.6
Clockworkmode v6.0.4.8
Boot into download mode and let us know what it says on the screen.
Code:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (3 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Here's an example of a 4.3 bootloader screen:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (7 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECURE BOOT: ENABLE
Warranty bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 2
Yours has no warranty line which leads me to believe you do not have the 4.3 bootloader. As a further test, what is the baseband on the phone? If you have the 4.3 AT&T bootloader, it would probably read MJB somewhere in the baseband version.
Code:
Baseband version
I747UCUEMJ2
Looks like you do not have the 4.3 bootloader which means you can flash a stock rom via Odin. Using Odin will wipe everything off your phone.
If you flash to stock 4.1.1, you can use the free method to permanently unlock your phone. I assume you have phone and data service on the phone with your existing sim?
No data plan or sim card -- wife and I use T-Mobile/MetroPCS and my first step was evaling if I could even get the phone sim unlocked. That's pretty great news. Do you have a DL location of the ROM you're recommending? I found the pure stock 4.1.1 off of Samsung's website.
Here's the stock AT&T 4.1.1: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=9080
Unlocking instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176719
Thank you for all the great suggestions. The rollback to 4.1.1 factory stock was a success; however, I'm having mixed results with the unlocking.
I can't seem to verify that the phone is indeed unlocked after the procedure, as testing out the micro sim from my Nexus yields only this response from the device after reboot:
"Phone note allowed MM#6"
The [1] PERSO SHA256 Info menu within the NETWORK LOCK screen shows "SHA256_ENABLE_FLAG [0]"
Press *#06#? Does it yield the proper imei #?
Yes, the number matches with that printed under the battery, and isn't blacklisted from the resources I've tried
Who is the carrier for the sim card you inserted?
MetroPCS (using the T-Mobile network for the Nexus 5)
Does T-Mobile use the AWS band? If it does, that's the problem as the i747 does not natively support T-Mobile frequencies.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344627
Humm - I did come across that thread reviewing the downfall of using the AT&T branded phone on the TMO network, but this is really a matter of speed when 4G isn't available I believe. There should still be some connectivity.
In all honestly I suppose I just don't have a baseline for what should or shouldn't happen when I have this SIM in place - if it's legitimately unlocked or still locked somehow. Any better test or status screen?
EDIT: It would seem that this is a MetroPCS thing, with the IMEI strictly associated with the account: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2670213
If you put in a non-AT&T sim and you were not prompted to enter a network unlock code, the phone is unlocked.
I have a Bell s3. When I inserted a non-Bell sim, I was prompted to enter an unlock code. I removed the sim, unlocked the phone using the free method, powered off my phone, inserted my Rogers sim, and I was not prompted for an unlock code. The phone connected to the Rogers network with no intervention on my part.
I think you're right, and based on what I'm reading here Metro is locking a 1:1 account:IMEI --
Only way I'll be able to be certain is to swing by the store and let them eval. I suppose I'll keep this stock until they do their thing.
Thank you so much for your patient help, especially with reviewing the bootloader. I'd call this a success!
We're all here to help. I hope you have good luck on getting the phone to work on your preferred carrier.

sim unlock note 2 att (i317) any firmware (4.1.2-newer) w/o data loss

when updating past 4.3 you aquire the updated bootloader and can no longer "safely" downgrade to 4.1.1 to unlock this phone. however if you:
1) Root the phone and allow SU to disable knox
2) Install custom recovery (TWRP, CWM, OR OTHER)
3) Boot into recovery and flash the atti317ucalj2modemfixed.zip modem
4) After reboot you can use this method to unlock:
(From this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2014982)
Just dial the following keys *#197328640#
Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > (after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in [6] Network Lock then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone... enjoy your unlocked phone!!!
5) Reboot recovery and flash the newest modem I317_ucucne5_modem.zip
6) Reboot again and enjoy your fully unlocked 4.4 note 2 att with out losing your data or bricking your phone
************* non at&t notes try using earlier versions of your own stock modems then updating after unlocking ************ @umaza has infomed me this method Seems to have worked for 4.4.2 i317m Koodo, just downgrade to the Rogers Modem,
Go here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987541) , go to Section 3, and go to Rogers, and get "I317MVLALJ2....uploaded by DAGr8 (Direct Link)"

With all due respect to OP and his lack of posts (like I have room to talk, right? ) can anyone else verify this as working before I attempt this? I need to unlock my phone and would rather do this than flash 4.1.1 (and trip Knox) and then reflash to a 4.4.2 ROM.

i hope others will try this and post their progress, but just as a personal reference in my repair/modification store i have now successfully unlocked 16 note 2's that i have bought and customer's phones. hope this information helps.
The information helped a lot when the other guy figured it out and posted it a year ago.
ok that didnt work for me i get an error, nothing happens til I hit send on the dialpad, then I get this connection problem or invalid MMI code

the other posted method works for previous software, the method has to be tweaked to work on 4.1.2 and above. im guessing people arn't reading that part of the post just assuming this is the same unlock method that use to work with out flashing the modem. they removed the #4 prompt in network lock on the newer modems so you cant manually unlock them.

send me your model, current version, baseband etc and i will help you figure it out. you shouldn't hit send in the dialpad to access the hidden menus. apon hitting the last # it directly loads the hidden menu.
I'm running an AT&T Note 2 (SGH-I317) running Ditto Rom 3 v2, baseband I317ucucne5
Hi I bought an att note 2 with 4.4.2 will this method work.
baseband
i317ucucnj1
kernel
3.0.31-1728680
build
kot49h.i317ucucnj1
works
I just tried this on my note 2 with 4.4.2 and it worked perfectly. Thank you.
Would this work on an Canadian sgh-i317m?
I am going to try this on my i317m (Koodo) Dn3 Rom, will post results soon
Edit:
Didn't work, when I put numbers on dialpad, it doesn't go right away, I then press the call button and it says "Mobile network not available"
Should I try going back to Stock Rom, then trying it? Will it stay Unlocked if I restore a previous EFS?
Edit2:
Went back to stock 4.4.2 Koodo, and did the following, but when I put numbers on dialpad, it goes through but everything is blank, like there is no menu to choose from
Did you downgrade the modem/baseband first before using the dial pad? This menu is only accessible in the older one. Also I'm not sure of the compatibility of the modem with a phone other than the I317 att. Other variants probably have a different modem and you'll have to find an older version of yours to flash then flash back to current.

Yes, I downgraded to the one you have provided, and surprisingly it was not accessible, but on my stock modem, the menu is accessible but doesn't work.
That was also my thought, time to modem hunt!

How to flash a AT&T Galaxy S9 SM-G960U with a T-Mobile Stock Rom?

Hello,
I've been trying to find my answers on how to flash a AT&T GS9 SM-G960U with a T-Mobile S9 Stock Firmware\ROM.
I found this thread and although it's fairly close to what I am trying to do, I didn't want to post this there because they are talking about flashing U1 to U and I'm not sure if that is what I need to do exactly. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/how-to/how-to-flash-u1-firmware-to-device-t3765200 from this thread, I've followed the initial steps and although Odin (Moded Odin v3.13.1 Raymonf ) tells me that the flash passed, upon reboot, the phone does not have the TMO firmware, it's still the original AT&T firmware. The only thing that it did do was add the TMO Visual VM icon\app.
I was informed of being able to download the TMO firmware from here: https://www.droiddosh.com/2018/04/samsung-galaxy-s9-sm-g960u-firmware-tmobile-usa-G960USQU1ARBG.html
Am I doing something wrong here? It seems that maybe these US models do not offer the OEM Bootloader unlocker option in developer settings unless you purchase the U1 version direct from Samsung that does not have a locked boot loader? I got this phone at no cost so that is also why I did not purchased from Samsung directly.
Any guidance and help would be appreciated.
Thank you
US carrier models have locked bootloaders, no way to root or install custom roms.
We should be able to flash between carrier versions/CSCs like we could with the S8, but the process is different and I've only read of a few people finding success in trying. The voicemail app you're seeing is due to flashing the T-Mobile userdata partition. This is the bloat partition - doesn't actually change device features, etc.
Any chance anybody has success doing this? It seems like a "Must Have" feature to switch carrier roms on the G960U between carriers, including Boot Screen/Logo, Firmware, Bloatware, etc.
All the goodies.
Any help?
Thank you,
I've done it!

I've completed this task tonight thanks to some great help from a user that stepped me through it on a TMO Forum.
First an FYI, I first was able to flash my AT&T S9 version from SM-960U to a Stock SM-960U1. It worked great. After that, I was able to flash the TMO Rom and it's also working perfect. I'm not sure if it's required or not to flash the phone to a U1 first or if the TMO Rom can just be flashed. After I flashed the TMO firmware, I had no issues downloading and installing the latest TMO update. (My device is unlocked as well)
It's best to use Samsung switch first to backup your texts, pics, etc. first if you want to restore them to the device after completing the flash. The below instructions will start the phone up as if it was new out if the box.
Here is what I was provided with and the steps I followed.
To Flash the SM-G960U to a SM-G960U1
1. Allow\Enable USB Debugging in Developers settings.
2. Download the U1 Firmware here: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=257063
(this is the U1 from Samsung, it's compressed but once extracted it will be around 4GB's of data.)
3. Download the ADB tools: https://devfiles.co/download/PDYvOWBg/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip. Create a folder on your desktop and name it ADB (for easy reference)
4. Download Odin: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10dSyPTuccP8Km9MnDrvbRdS-CAcgFZB3/view
5. From windows, run command prompt, in the command prompt type the following: cd C:\Users\XXX\Desktop\ADB
(XXX is your username)
6. Connect your phone to a USB port on your computer, your phone should prompt you to allow the connection to\from your computer. Allow the connection. Might be best to choose to "Always Allow"
7. Return to the command prompt and type in: adb devices You should see your device listed.
8. In the same command window, type in: adb reboot bootloader This will auto reboot your device into the "Download" mode.
9. Open and run Odin, add the corresponding tar files to the respective area's, in the "options tab" in Odin, make sure that only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" is checked.
Click "Start" and the process will take a few minutes to complete.
Allow the device a few minutes to auto reboot and start up.
After you get through all the post boot setup screens, open a phone dial pad and type in, *#2263#. then make sure that all LTE bands are enabled.
Here you can find the SM-G960U T-Mobile Files: https://www.droiddosh.com/2018/04/samsung-galaxy-s9-sm-g960u-firmware-tmobile-usa-G960USQU1ARBG.html
Switching from U -> U1 -> U
B"H
Ok, thank you.
1. So stock G960U (Original Carrier) -> Flash to U1 -
2. Then, Go from G960U1 -> Stock G960U (Any Carrier)
Few questions:
1. Which CSC file are you using to flash -- CSC_HOME?
2. In moving from U1 -> U, do you need the final carrier SIM inside the phone?
I've tried this with a Verizon phone I'd like to convert to XFinity (CCT). I flashed the G960U VZW to G960U1 XXA. That worked fine. Then I flashed the G960U CCT rom, and the phone just boots up Verizon. When I check the CSC, it says "VZW/VZW/VZW", even though I flashed the CCT rom.
I don't have an XFinity sim card, so perhap that is the problem.
Any help would be great.

You most likely will need a Xfinity Sim Card. I was able to convert my Xfinity Mobile S9 to AT&T by going to U1 firmware then inserting my AT&T sim card then flashing the AT&T U firmware.

Does anyone know if you have to have the phone unlocked before changing over carriers? for example if i had a Galaxy S9 from Sprint and wanted to change the firmware to T-Mobile would it work or would it still be locked to Sprint? Thanks for your Help!

I would check if your phone is already unlocked, Most Verizon phones come unlocked (unless you bought them from a Verizon Tent at Cosco or stores like that) Just put in another carriers sim card and check, if it is unlocked then you shouldnt have to flash anything, once you put in a different carrier sim it will tell you to restart your phone and once you do it will come up with the new carriers splash logo and apps

In my experience all the carrier S9s are locked. You will need an unlock code from your carrier or an unlocking service.
Noob here: I’ve read that all US S9 models are the same in terms of hardware, is that true? Would that mean if I change the firmware from verizon to T-Mobile, it’ll be fully compatible?

Yes! All 965U's, 965U1's, and 965W's are the exact same hardware, just different firmware.
For those of you that use TMO or U1 firmware on an unlocked ATT phone on TMO network, do you get a <Subject: NoSubject> before other people's texts in group texts? I've tried flashing U and U1 firmware several times as well as factory reset without being able to get rid of the subject line. Anyone have any insight or suggestions?
I was able to go from U1 to the att firmware. My question is why does samsung pass not work? I can see that the knox is not tripped and google play store is certified. Device status says official. Device is not rooted but Samsung pass thinks it is rooted. Why would this happen when all I did was install the carrier bundle?
(Newbie) doing what jrockz3000 did would allow root to be possible?
