So I rooted my T211. After sometime, I wanted to update the software (maybe I'll get better stability and performance?) so I unrooted it. After successfully unrooted it using Kingo app, I can't update it saying "the device was modified. Software updates are not available." Btw my device is in stock rom and never flashed a custom rom. How do I fix this w/o flashing stock rom (download always corrupt, damn!) and w/o using Kies?
OMG !
I am a bit confused !
Tab 3 7.0 (SM-T210 Variants and SM-T211 Variants) don't have a Software update yet !
It only have the stock version the one it was release w/
If you want Android 4.2.2 or 4.3 or even KitKat then that's NOT going to happen right now.
No software update even if your device wasn't modified.
You can also use this great app from Chainfire ! to reset flash counter BUT there's NO guarantee it will work since any version of Tab 3 isn't listed !
Apart from this, the only way will be ODIN since KIES won't also update it if you're running already Android 4.1.2

Recently i flashed the leaked 4.2.2 rom on my Galaxy Grand. Played with it a few days and then reverted back to 4.1.2 XXAMF2 rom and quickly updated to XXAMF7. After a few days i tried to update the software but i got a message, " Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". I then checked under device status and it showed Custom. I googled the problem and found that if i uninstall samsung apps and push service the device will be back to normal. It worked for me. I updated Samsung apps again and the device remained official for a few hours. And again it said that the device is custom so i uninstalled Samsung Apps and the device status is now official. What to do?
A thing that bugs is me that i dont know wether i flashed the indian version of the rom but isnt AFM7 indian?

nothing to worry about it just because you flashed leaked version 4.2.2
this was there with many s3 owners even after visiting samsung care & was told that only firmware upgrading will resolve there issue
just flash 4.2.2 when officially released & everything will be fine

Hello all, I'm new to this forum and I could really use some help with my phone. I have a rooted AT&T Samsung galaxy S3 running on 4.1.1 stock with cwm. I would like to update to the latest stock OS which is 4.3 but I'm not sure how to do it right. I would prefer to keep all my data but I don't mind losing root. how should I go about updating my device safely?

If you are rooted then you can flash any 4.3 ROM in the android development and they all have KNOX free bases. You will most likely need to update your baseband to MJB. Enjoy your KNOX free 4.3!!!

You should first check to see if you can get an OTA update. Some users have reported being able to update OTA to 4.3 even with root. Go to Settings => About Device and check for updates. If you can't get an OTA update, you may try manually updating via cwm via the method posted in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Before updating to 4.3, however, I would suggest you ensure you are done with taking advantage of all the opportunities you have at 4.1.1 including free unlock as you would not be able to downgrade the 4.3 bootloader once you've upgraded. If you don't have Samsung Kies installed on your PC, you may install it to back up and restore your data. In other words, you cannot go back to an older version (easily) once you have upgraded.
My galaxy siii was rooted before kitkat was out, and I have been using it until now and have not yet update to KitKat yet because AT&T is not part of it any more.
How do I get KitKat on my phone? Do I have to unroot the phone and put it back into AT&T mode to download or what should I do?
this might help.

I might add to this...if you removed any stock carrier or vendor apps from 4.3 while being rooted...you'll have to restore them via a Titamium Backup or some other way or the OTA update will not install properly. (I realized that the OTA update from 4.3 to 4.4.2 will patch these apps to update them to 4.4.2 compatibility)
If you can't do that or if its unreasonable to do that based on the way the phone was modified while rooted...I suggest flashing the stock 4.3 rom via Odin and then take the OTA.
Id recommend flashing the 4.3 firmware via Odin to begin with. Its starting to seem like a lot of people who even just have to unroot are having problems with the ota. I think Odin flashing stock 4.3 will give the best chance of a successful update.

I am having this issue. I rooted on 4.3 and removed Google books and newsstand. I then uprooted and did a factory reset , so everything in download mode says "official" but the apps were still missing so I downloaded them from the play store. My question is will this let me get the OTA now or do I have to push the apps to the /system directory somehow? Also if I flash the 4.3 ODIN tar file, will it trip my warranty bit? It's at 0 right now and want to keep it that way until my warranty is up.
The firmware shouldn't trip the bit, but I can't promise that. Im sure its confirmed one way or the other in its thread though.
As for those apps, they'd have to be system apps, so just installing normally won't help. More importantly though, they would also need to be the same version that was originally built into the firmware. The apps you mentioned have seen many updates and using the current versions will not work.
I got the phone 2 weeks ago and it came with 4.3 installed on it. Would I be able to use the current version and just push them to /system/app with titanium backup? I am trying to get the OTA without tripping any warranty or security measures.
I need some help downloading the new software update.
I get an error when I try the software update.
Is there anything I can do to update to the new formware?
What program or method are you using to try and update your phone?
If you have rooted your phone you won't be able to do the over the air update. I would suggest going here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and downloading the newest version for your phone. Use Odin to flash it in the phone section. That's the AP line. This will install the update for you. Then you will have to root your phone again.
Or I have mega links in general section to avoid sammobiles crappy 100kb speed
What does your device status say?

I used Samsung Kies 3 and did a "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" under Tools and that brought me up from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 while being rooted.
I did this same method on a 4.3 firmware non-rooted. It took it from 4.3 to 4.4.4. I hope this will help you.
I am using an smt211 and tried to root it while running kitkat. But it failed and was bootlooping. So i sent it to a repair shop and they fixed it but flashed jelly bean software. This removed both my root and the software update. Now if i try to update via kies or ota, it says that latest updates have already been installed. Now i want to download the firware kitkat from sammobile but cant decide which software to download for my device pleas ehelp me.
