Senior Member - About xda-developers.com

For reasons I cannot explain I am promoted "Senior Member", somehow appropriate given my birthday 13/10/54
But can I -please- be downgraded to beginner or whatever unqualified member?

It's automated, the tag is applied to you when you hit 100 posts, and because you have 104 posts, you're classified as a senior member.

A forum works in this way.
The rank changes after certain amount of post or when you are promoted (mods and developers only).
Currently it looks like this:
Junior Member -> Member -> Senior Member
Recognized Developer -> Senior Recognized Developer
Forum Moderator -> Senior Moderator
Senior means that you have a long affiliation with the forum and it doesn't say anything about your age. Even 99 years old man can be Junior Member and 10 years old kid can be a Senior Member.
Frankly speaking I don't see anything wrong with that, but if you feel differently, contact one of our admins and highlight the issue.

Become senior member?

I was just wondering, what does it take to become a senior member? Do I need a certain amount of posts? How do I do it? Also, what does it take to become a moderator? Does it have something to do with the amount of posts? They always have so many! Please let me know!!!
100+ posts = senior member
rest i don't know.
What ^he^ said. You started out as a Junior member and you're already a member. It happened that same way. As far as moderator goes... probably has to do with either:
1. How respected, resourceful and trusted you are by the admins.
2. How good your application+resume looks if they hire like a real job.
3. If you can figure out how many fingers the admin is holding behind her back. lol
I'm sooo close right now
Just so that this isn't a 'me too' post, wanted to add that 30 posts changes you from a junior to a regular member...

Rather than just making posts, try actually making useful ones rather than pointlessly spamming the forum with crap
There is no way you can SPAM all the way to 100 post without the notice of not only the Admin and Mods, but also some of the members here.
There were some Junior Members / Members who write nonsence, with info in 1 post which does not tally with another post got slam left & right, up & down by other normal members.
So watch your way before you either get slam or even worst, get banned!!!

What's the mystery? £1,000 or a plentiful supply of vaseline.

PS I would love to say quality and quantity of posts helps to make you a moderator, but they made me one, and I think I failed on both counts!
Who cares about how many posts you have who cares what your title is. The title doesn't really do much. Why do you want to become a senior if you get nothing out of it? It's just a title..and you aren't granted any permissions.
i dont post much.. i read around alot tho! been here over a year still my post count is low.. i dun care though i just prefer to search/read before asking any questions rather than posting useless posts or flaming others!
IMO a senior member title doesnt matter unless you're carrying th knowledge learning yourself helping out others and praising/giving credits for others hard-work!!
Actually, becoming a member from a junior member, a senior member from a member and also becoming a moderator from a senior member counts nothing. You are just given the title. Like in olden times, there were knights or Sirs. We can't spam the forums just to make our names famous. Its better that to search first, got it read, check out your answer, and then if you don't get it, start a new thread.
Thanks

A lot of people cares...
And permissions are granted by Mods when you deserve it...not before...even if you have 5000 posts or have 40...
Yep. It doesnt matter what the title is. The only title that really matters is moderator or admin and those are only granted if you contribute and being granted admin is very unlikely.
a post should be posted only if its necessary..as it takes space..a senior member may be a title only..but being a senior member proves that you take part in our forum and contribute to it.so its not JUST a title...

ya..usually his attitude is always like that...
Thanks guys lots of helpful info here. . .. . . . i had always wondered how people got promoted to moderator status. . . all of my questions were answered. .
Bro, i have been wondering the same question since ive become a member....er junior member.....er experienced nooob....lol, actually i have a lot of experience in networking with surveillance systems access control and integrations , but no writing.....so i am kinda leary on posting anything for fear of it being nothing more than just blanket questions that go no where. I dont wnt to be the guy that posts "need a cool rom, please help".......so i spend my time here reading and reading and reading.......maybe i will start posting some very thoughtful questions and see if i can get any response on maybe creation of new networking tools?

What do the golden stars next to some members names mean?

I'm still relatively new at xda devs....and I'm still trying to find my bearings with all of this. Im not even sure if this question is being posted on the right board. lol. Apologies if its not. Just wondering what the golden stars next to some members names mean? Is it like their accuracy with problems handled and solved or complexity of problems worked on or something like that? Or is it just their tenure with the community? And what is the difference between a junior member, member or a senior member? How do you become one of those? Ofcourse I'm interested in knowing
Thanks in advance.
Just a sign that they donated money to xda-devs.
Stars have nothing to do how accurate someone is
Hmm.....yes of course I knew tht! I was just checking to see if you knew!! lol jp. So what does a senior member mean? How do you become one?
It's just a post count thing like junior -> member
a senior only has more psots, doesn't mean he/she is alway right
Hmmm thanks for the prompt responses. I must say...that's the quickest I've seen anyone reply on this forum. Much appreciated. Dank je
(Hope I got it right!!)
Graag gedaan. (you are welcome)
You got it perfectly right

Some doubts and questions

Hello,
I have some doubts and questions.
I will be putting down my queries one by one as previous are answered.
My first question is
How is the ranking system on xda.
Till now I saw New member, Junior member, Senior member.
Can someone explain me something about this?

It's ironic that you've got the rules linked in your signature, yet you ignore the very first one of them.

Oops!!!
Sorry if my question on OP sounds in different meaning
Why I would like to know abt Junior member and new member when I am already Senior member
But I wanted to know further rankings that are after Senior Member

The "ranks" or title beyond senior member are ;
Recognised Developer / Contributor / Themer
Elite Recognised Developer
Forum Moderator / Senior Moderator
A search should provide you with information any of these but I wouldn't get too hung up on titles, we're all here for the same reason.

How can i be a moderater/senier member

How can i be a moderater/senier member/other higher rank..
Well the first would be to read more and help out more. Make yourself seen and help people who are in your forums.
For Moderator status:
Announcements
Want to be a Moderator at XDA-Developers.com?
(Applications)
Although most if not all forums are currently covered by a Moderator, we will from time to time recruit "in-advance" which allows us to have Moderators ready to step in without delay as new device forums are added.
We to cover as many forums as possible with a named, dedicated Forum Moderator. A list of Forums and Moderators can be found here Administrators and Moderators
The Moderator Committee have revised the system for apointing Moderators.
1.It will no longer be possible to apply to become a Moderator directly and the Application process will remain closed (except in rare circumstances where we have an urgent need to recruit a group of new Moderators.)
2.Future Moderators will be recruited via recommendations from existing Forum and Senior level Moderators.
3.Those holding the Recognized Contributor title will be the main source of future Moderators.
4.Holding the Recognized Contributor title will be an initial indication that a person can be considered as a Moderator, but there is no automatic progression to Moderator and only a few will be given promotion throughout the year.

It is all explained out right here --> [GUIDE] How to be a New User (and not a noob)
User Titles
As you go around XDA and encounter people, you may notice that they have different titles under their avatar. Speaking of which, click here to upload a picture.
Here are the user titles explained by one of our mods.
0 to 29 posts - Junior Member
30 to 99 posts - Member
100 + posts - Senior Member

There are Junior Members, Members, Senior Members first. These make up the vast majority of XDAs userbase.
Recognised Contributors are nominated by other users and/or Mods/Developers. They are recognised for their contributions which are not specifically Development, such as detailed guides, one-click utilities and other tools/mods.
Recognised Themers are also nominated by users/Mods/Developers, for their work themeing custom ROMs and providing standalone themes for flashing.
Recognised Developers are nominated and approved by the Developer Committee, for their work in Development whether it be ROMs, Root methods, bootloader unlocks etc.
Elite Recognised Developers are again assessed by the Developer Committee, and are deemed to have gone above-and-beyond in providing knowledge/hacks/tools/apps/ROMs for the XDA community.
Forum Moderators are appointed by the Moderator Committee, after submitting an application (see the 'sticky' at the top of this forum - currently applications are not open). They are the first-line of keeping the forums tidy, friendly and orderly.
Senior Moderators are the next step up the ladder, providing site-wide support for Forum Mods and looking after the nitty-gritty issues, as well as areas of XDA not policed by FSMs, such as the Marketplace.
Administrators are next. There are several Admins - each look after a specific part of XDA such as the Portal, the Members and the User Experience of XDA as a whole.
At the top is Mike Channon, who is overall Forum Administrator.
Other titles you may come across:
Moderator Committee - sits on the Mod Committee
Developer Committee - as above, but for Developer Committee
XDA Newswriter - publishes articles for the Portal (front page)
Retired xxxx - have since officially 'left' their XDA position
Hopefully that clears most of them up for you
Contrary to what a lot of people expect, the thanks-meter does not figure at all in determining a users tag.

Since you are already a senior member by posting your 100th post, you could try to become a Recognized Contributor or Recognized Themer. How to apply to become a Recognized Contributor/Themer on XDA after putting in some more time and contributions such as guide threads.

Check this thread to get some info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949604
Basically they mean exactly what the literal meaning is. That is a junior member is a new guy to site..
member is just a member.. not too new to be junior.. or not too old to be senior..
Senior member is a member who usually has enough knowledge about site functioning and other related stuff or knows how things works here..
But you get them due to your post count. 0-30 junior 31-99 member 100+ senior I think.. that thread has these info anyway.. so look there.. and do read sticky threads always
