Hi All
Really am getting tired of running out of memory on my rooted desire. I used the CyanogenMod and now the Mildwild 5.0 but i`m only managing to install around 5-6 apps before i get the memory is low notification and am unable to install anymore. Any ideas what i`m doing wrong before I go and buy a new phone to end this madness hehe?
For example According to Mounts2SD app my storage is
Internal (/data) 132mb of 147mb
External /sd-ext 75mb of 3.75gb
Cache /sd-ext/cache 75mb of 3.75gb
Applications 10.85mb
System apps 2.0kb
Data 53Mb
Dalvik Cache 70.97MB
First of all, wipe everything. Then repartition your sdcard using 4ext recovery and now assign only 1gb of storage to your ext4 partition. Also change your Hboot to a more efficient one like CM7r2 Hboot. Have a look at alpharev.nl for that. Finally, reflash your rom(preferably any of Mildwild's) and setup a2sd again from terminal or use mount2sd from playstore.

Ok . Got s-off last night and partitioned my SD card using recovery console.
I have then flashed a custom cm7 hboot using Android flasher and then tried both insert coin and rcmix roms but still only getting about 120 mb free.
Can somebody advise where I am going wrong and possibly suggest what I should be using.
I basically want new ginger sense with lots of app space.
Thanks

That's normal (if I.remember well)
Sd space should not be shown, you only see the internal free space

Yes you do. The ext partition is there, you just can't see it. Your storage will decrease the more apps you put on because of the dalvik cache.

hmm can you clarify that a bit? as in, is seeing ~120mb of free space is normal?
I recently flashed the InsertCoin cm7 rom and see that i'm using ~160mb and have ~130mb free. I thought this is normal given that the hboot used was alpharev cm7r3 (~290mb for data)
Though reading this thread makes me wonder, whatever happened to the 1GB ext partition? What is it used for?
A2sd: apps on ext(SD)
Dalvik on internal
Sent from my HTC Desire
Some rarely used system apps are on sd_ext which allows rom to fit cm7 hboot system partition. Also all downloaded apps .apk go to sd_ext, but their dalvik cache (which is from what the app actually runs) stay in internal memory and that makes rom super fast. What you see in settings is true but this space will be taken only by dalVik and that means (with your 120mb) lots of space.

Thanks to everyone for their input. Just wasn't really sure I had done it correctly. Bit of a noob!!.
I also just wanted it correct before adding my files and also flashing custom splash and boot animations.

Hi,
I am running CM7 on my Desire and i can't exactly figure out why i only have about 17MB of free internal space.
When i go to App2SD is says that i have 17MB of free space of the 147MB total. I then decided to add the sizes of all the apps on my phone (the ones on movable, and the ones on phone only) and it summed to about 50MB. Even if i add some space for cache (which is clean because i checked) i am nowhere near the supposedly used 130MB.
What is occupying all this space? Anyone with any idea or same problem?
P.S: I know there are several threads with this issue ("low internal space") but in all of them the users seem to have indeed low space and are looking for a way to clear some. I can't figure out where my space went (lol) thus this thread.
Regards,
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
From your description, you are probably using Stock Hboot with
/system = 250MB
/cache = 40MB
/data = 147MB
With this kind of partition you are limited to 147MB for your apps. Take into consideration that Android's Dalvik cache is stored on the data partition, you are really going to ran out of space fast.
You need to at least change your partition table to CM7r2 found on alpharev.nl to optimize the space usage of your phone's internal memory.
/system = 145MB
/cache = 5MB
/data = 287MB
Or you could do it the easy way.. Download an app called s2e from Android market. Its for CM7 rom, it moves the apps to you're sd ext for you.

Will this also work on Leedroid 3.0.8.2?
I'm not sure, you'd have to ask the Dev via market.

Just did a bit more reading about it. Think its just for cyanogenmod7
Yeah i'm pretty sure it is but its probably worth asking the question.

I am having the same issue only with my internal memory and my sd card. I know for sure I updated the radio too. So i'm clueless as well. I would use the app suggested to you because I am running cyanogen 7.1 stable but I only have 312mb of free space on it also from 2gb.

Pretty sure that leedroid has either a2sd+ or data++ pre built into the rom so you wouldn't need to use s2e. Only need it for CyanogenMod because it doesn't support it as standard.
I had exactly the same problem with the low internal space on my HTC Desire. I downloaded an app called App2SD enabler. I installed this app and now it lets me move pretty much every app which couldnt be moved before to SD. You cant move like systems app and data from the apps but you can move the app. Eg for example Tango, which is a video calling app is 17mb. I moved it to the SD and its now only 1mb on my phone . But this only works if your phone is rooted. It worked fine for me, however some people do have problems with it so be wary. Link is below..
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.leinardi.setinstalllocation&hl=en
If you guys look at my post, you'll see that i already use App2SD to move my apps.
The problem is that if i add all the apps on my phone it gives me 50MB. And it says i only have 16 free of the 147 total.
The question is: where the hell is the rest of the space?
Have you flashed a few different ROMs? I did, and kept getting less and less free space as a result of each reflash leaving behind residual crud that normal wiping between flashes didn't remove. See here for my question, the proposed solution, and the outcome. (I've now got about 30Mb, and would have over 48MB if it weren't for Swype, Jorte, and a few other things that don't work as well from the SD card).

This is interesting. I'm assuming it'll move all existing installed apps?
I've CM 7.0.3 and I've also installed the DarkTremor A2SD script, but it seemed to have left all my existing apps intact.
Yeah i'm pretty sure it moves existing apps, I ran it with a bunch already installed and my storage went up I think. There is also a way to import from darktremor. Instructions are on the app page on market, there is also a link to more detailed info.

Here's what you can try.
>Install titanium backup, in options select integrate davlik cache into rom.

>Uninstall the stupid crap system apps.
>if you still are running low on storage, use this command, but it may create some problem for you when u are installin new apps like they will force close. You will have to reboot device to run them at first try.
"su" press enter. allow the superuser request.
"cache sd" enter. it will reboot. may take some 6-7 minutes to boot.

Hey guys,
I'm using Android 2.3.5 with Sense 2.1 (stock rom) and added Link2SD to my rooted phone some time ago. At first I was glad I had about 50mb of internal storage left after I moved all (!!!) linked every app to my SD-card. I don't know how, but the internal storage shrinked more and more and now I'm left with 10mb of free storage and that annoying message, that I'm running out of memory. I tried some cache cleaning apps but I just don't know what's eating up all of my memory!
Any ideas?
greetings
Link2sd leaves stuff in internal memory. My little wfs became a wonderful phone after I s-offed and rooted it, but then installed some custom roms, and some of which had A2SD built in. I installed all my apps and still had 75mb of free memory.
I am currently running CM9, and I used a custom script to move my apps and cache to my SD card. I have 123 MB of memory now. It's terrible

After failing to get simple2ext to work, and having Link2SD eat my SD card mutliple times, I was just about ready to give up on CM9 when I found this thread:

Since then, my CM9 Alpha 7 install ahs been working very well. I could not be more pleased.
BTW: If you do run those scripts on an existing ROM (without Link2SD, Data2SD, or simple2ext, just do steps 1 and 2)

I don't know much about Link2SD, as i could never get it to work, but... I'm thinking if you move everything back to internal memory, and uninstall the startup scripts that mount the SD card, you should be able to run the scripts I used. I would make a full backup of my ROM before trying anything like that though. Ya never know...
You can try the following.
1. Go to link2sd. Clear cache, relink lib files and multi select anf link all.
2. Get titanium backup and integrate davlik cache into rom.
3. Enable auto link in link2sd.
4. Reboot.
Im using link2sd wid a lot of apps and have internal storage 60+ mb all the time.
Also uninstall any crap system apps you dont use because they'll just fill the internal memory.

First flash eoghan's kernel on stock ROM which enables using of different scripts and link2SD..then partition SD card and flash the script or use link2SD as always..
And make sure you have a backup..
P S Instead of flashing the above you can also install crossfire's stock ROM or other stock based ROMs which have init.d support I.E you can partition SD card and install scripts and other stuff... Your options are Kimsmod ultimate, Wildchild or crossfire's stock ROM.

You terrible WRONG!!! Link2SD do the job correctly, learn it! and Internal Storage remains unused-free! When link an app, in Storage Info looks Internal Storage raised but when you make Quick Reboot Internal Stoage seems like a nothing get in there! |So! I search for days to finaly suffix the best to free Internal Storage without any mod file|
I make Factory data reset and device come back with ~30mb Internal Storage, i partition sd card and install Link2SD, mount 2nd partition. Install any app, Create link Quick Reboot and go on!!

There is something better than Link2sd
Something better is called [INT2EXT] and it has requirements:
1.Init.d Supported in ROM
2.SD Card Partition
how to install:
1.Wipe everything and
2. Re-partition SD Card
3. Re-flash ROM
4. Install the zip using CWM
to download the scripts (INT2EXT) please head here
Do not forget to press Thanks

1. How did you partition your sd-card?
2. Did you configure m2sd correctly?
3. Are you one of those guys who think that the internal memory itself will be larger, thus expecting to see "1148 mb" of internal storage in settings? You will still see 148 mb, but the partition will be there, doing its job.
4. What did you move to sd-ext? Try moving app and dalvik cache.
Hello,
1. To partition my SD card, I booted the phone in recovery and I partitioned it from there. And I know it's done because my SD's memory is now 1GB less.
2. All the boxes in m2sd application are checked. It doesn't let me change anything.
3. I didn't expect to see the internal memory larger.
4. From what I read, I thought that after m2sd is configured, it will move the applications itself to sd-ext. So by still seeing 126/148MB of my internal memory occupied, I suppose this didn't happen. How can I move an app manually??

Ok. That explains it. Your sd-ext wasn't done properly. Check my guide for correctly partitioning your sd-card :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37383522#post37383522
Then use the mounts2sd flashable zip. It's safer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342387
I have followed your guidelines and installed 4Ext recovery. Then i partitioned my SD card with that and i installed m2sd using the flashable zip.
Then still m2sd not working and i'm still getting the annoying low space notification. So i installed FreeSpace and it seems like i don't have an ext partition. The only things it shows there are:
- Cache 40MB
- Data 147MB
- SD-card 2731MB
- System 250MB
My SD card is 3.66GB. So from that, the conclusion is that the partition was created but the system cannot access it..?? What could be wrong?? How should i proceed? Just try to partition the SD again??
Thanks a lot

Yes, partition your sd-card again.
1gb goes to your sd-ext. It's normal for freespace to show 2731 mb.
For some reason my phone couldn't access SD-ext, even if it was partitioned correctly and in recovery it could see it. So i wiped everything and istalled a new ROM. Now it works perfectly!
Thanks a lot for the assistance!
