I've been googling if the V500 G Pad can be flashed with the GPE firmware but all I seem to find is reviews of the GPE G Pad. Only other thing I found is that you can put CM 11 on.
NO.
There have been a ton of development but no success at this moment

I prefer the vanilla android like on my Nexus 4 over these skinned versions, is the hardware different between the GPE and normal one?
Just install Mahdi rom.
Sent from my LG-V500 using Tapatalk
There are plenty of ROMs that look very much like stock.
All phones have aosp roms but don't get frequent Google updates like the GPEs.
Anyone know of the hold up? I guess the LG model doesn't have an unlocked bootloader.
Such a shame. You'd think the GPE model would be cheaper since Google updates it while the LG model requires LG to program tmand develop the LG overlay and man power to push updates.

Read that thread and see what the holds up are. Maybe more eyes on it can help...
Yea I read through the most part of that thread. Sucks because... I'm the market after my kid drowned my 2013 N7 and the GPad GPE looks great but $350 vs $225 of LG edition.

I only got my g pad during the week and I quite like it. I installed kk launcher and nothing else other than my usual apps.
I'm not a fan at all of the pull down menus with all the shortcuts and pair of sliders. I miss a recent apps button also, like on the nexus 4, but maybe this is a tablet thing?
I would still like the gpe android though, I can't see myself using any of the lg apps.
press and hold the home button and you have the recent apps
if you like the gpe look you should try Mahdi ROM :good:
I too am hoping to see a GPE ROM ported to the v500. I bought two of these (for myself and my wife) and also own a N7, and a Dell Venue 8 Pro. Best hardware? Gpad. Best OS? N7. Best for windows apps? Venue 8 Pro.
That said, the Gpad isn't getting used nearly as much as I'd like to. I have infected's build and CM11 on there which is about as close to Google's stock android build as I could get at the time, but I'd really rather be on the GPE ROM itself.
If I can help in this effort in any way, I will...

that's the irony. LG values its junkware version less. but for 225, i'm not complaining.

Do European models of the LGOG come with 4.2.2?
Sent from my LG Optimus G
Nope.
So no update for the OG? Damn....
So far the only official version we have is 4.1.2 for all variants.
Would be nice even if one variant gets 4.4 cause then it can be ported like how the Korean rom was ported and then later the HK one before NA officially got 4.1.2
Just remember, the fragmentation of Android don't benefits the Google... So the company has been trying recruiting all devices eligible to dissemination of SO... Including LGOG... Maybe not in October, but most fast possible.... My opinion

LG would be the saddest smartphone company if they didn't update their one year old Flagship. Take hints from Samsung, LG
Sent from my LG Optimus G
Most smartphone users do not care about software updates. They do not know the importance of it. Just want Facebook working well on a big screen and durable battery. Why in my opinion it would take to update our OG is trying to avoid fragmentation of Android, not the anxiety of a minority of users ...

If such phones like the L7,L5 and L3 will get the update im sure that our G will get it too.
C'mon guys what a comparison L3 vs the G, its more a joke.
LG should drop their own software and form a partnership with Cyanogenmod. Simple as that. No problems with software and they could only concentrate on hardware.
please not!!!!
LG UI is one of the gratest interfaces i´ve ever seen!

Weird how LG replies with news of an update, when they ignore everyone who needs support
I'm hoping above all else that we do, but it just seems weird that an LG phone would be among the first to receive an update considering the company's history

I think the Nexus devices would have the exclusivity for at least a month before any other device gets the update.

I'm looking for an upgrade from Optimus 2X P990. I've a shortlisted a few phone that are in my budget, they are the N4, Optimus G, Optimus G Pro, and the Xperia SP.
There are a few questions I have.
Firstly, I'll buy an E980 AT&T version if I am to get an Optimus G Pro, but will it work with the Indian Service providers flawlessly?
Secondly, why isn't there as many ROMs as there has to be for a terrific phone as this? Is it because of the Locked Bootloader?
Thirdly, does the FreeGee support mean that a Pandora's box of ROMs and Kernels have been opened?
Thank you all.
Regards,
Ron

It all depends what you're looking for. True, the OGP lacks dev support, but the few ROMs we work nicely and the hardware is fantastic.
I wouldn't bother with an N4. The AT&T LG Optimus G (LG-E970) has almost the same exact hardware as the N4 but a bigger and better screen with cap keys and an external SD slot. But, since everything else is 97% the same as the N4, the OG gets updated custom ROMs just as fast as the N4 since the sources for the N4 can be use for the e970 with very minor changes.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I did consider the AT&T E970 for the reasons you mentioned. But then again, the hardware and design of the E980 is too tempting to let go. Wondering if the development for the phone will grow in future. If so, this will be my next phone, hopefully. Also, since it has official CM support too, doesn't that secure the development of ROMs for at least 2-3 years? :/

Not necessarily. With 4.4 now out, the CM team would still need to add the device. However, personally, I do think this will get the 4.4 update one way or the other and I won't be jumping to a new phone anytime soon.

I just traded my galaxy s4 for this phone and couldn't be happier. installed cwm and flashed carbonrom.. loving it! :good:
This phone is a great phone and the developers that we do have are great. We will continue to get updates because the hardware is too good to just leave on jellybean. This is my opinion of course, so I am clearly happy with the e-980 and don't plan on getting another phone anytime soon.

I was looking for an upgrade from my aging galaxy note and this thing is absolutely wonderful. Top tier specs and much cheaper to pick up unlocked then top range samsung stuff. The only downside I've found has been that the custom rom support isn't as good as most Samsungs I've owned so just check out what is available for the optimus G pro and see if it's enough for you.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the OGPro now. But it's only the lack of development that worries me a little, hope it gets better with time.

I have a S5 and I will not keep both. It is early yet but after a few days I think the S5 is the goner.
I just cannot put the G3 down. Is is very comfortable to use, the feel is great, and the weight is neglible as far as I'm concerned. It hasn't given me any problems yet, I have enjoyed everything I have tried so far, the display is very good, and I'm happy with the battery life.
Well done LG, bravo!

I sold my n5 to buy the g3, hoping it would help me stop wanting to keep flashing roms every couple days. I loved doing it but it got out of control. But now I'm just hoping for a stock Rom that gets rid of the lag I experience typing and using the recents.

What makes it better? Looking at a lot of pictures from both on phonearena, I felt the G3 was better overall. It seemed to be just as good at most things, but then was much better at night and a little bit better in HDR. But they also don't have much motion in the pictures, etc.
I had a GS5. I am on AT&T but had a T-Mobile version rooted and custom rom. I couple of things for me are making me lean towards the G3. The screen obviously. Second is the UI. With a custom rom you still couldn't get the AOSP feel to the GS5. You are already closer with a stock G3 UI. With Nova and a few tweaks you are very close. Finally I am thinking we will get the bootloader unlocked and be in heaven. Still though, its a close call. The amoled on the S5 was a better screen overall and with the capacitive buttons the size advantage is not that great. The S5 didn't have the humming issue with headphones and AUX cables. Overall though I think the G3 will stay.
Coming from a m7 and I'm about 99% I'm keeping my g3. 11 more days to decide if I can live with a locked boot loader
Nexus 5 here. Almost definitely keeping the G3. Better screen and better battery life are key. LG's it's definitely the best skin I've encountered.

A thought has just occurred to me.
The recent Nexus 5 rumours led me onto a thought train. According to some of the rumours we're seeing, the new Nexus 5 may well be, to all intents and purposes, a slightly different G4, with added fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C. The rumoured specs seem to show they share the same SoC (Snapdragon 808, Adreno 418), same RAM (3Gb), same camera sensor... etc.
Theoretically, if the new handset was to share these specifications and come with stock Android (as previous Nexus devices have done), would we be able to port that ROM across to our own devices, to essentially give us stock Android (obviously with work to unlock bootloaders, or a workaround)?
Nope! Not gonna happen. Nexus 5 x will be an affordable midrange device.

Except there was no nexus 5 port to lg g2. A nexus 5x ROM would make the g4 perfect though. If only we could keep the camera set up. Oh well. The 10N update helped alot with overall feel. So let's see what marshmallow does! Hopefully it's an improvement. If love to try a vanilla experience on here though. Imagine if that's what the marshmallow update was!!!? We don't need this skin LG.
