Hi guys,
Well after succed running Ubuntu on Tab 3 10.1,
I suddently thought about Windows 8 :silly:
So, I firstly tried installing Windows 8 on KVM under Ubuntu 13. I got many problem, but I succeed installing it
After that, I bought a SDCard of 32Gb since Windows 8 requires at least 15Gb to install ! The IMG is about 20Gb.
Now, time for running on my Tab ! There the IMG won't boot at all !!!
I tried running it using SDL app and bochs.
One thing is pretty sure: The tab is Windows 8 capable since it's a x86 arch CPU
So anyone can please help me making a bochsrc.txt ? :fingers-crossed:
This is a great idea !

so did you write the image to the card? dd/imagewriter
did you format card to ...?
does bosch/sdl error log?
just a thought, if you get a hal error/invalid/corrupt message when
you start it you're mostly there, it's the install that's boned.
i ran into that when i was trying to clone a windows install a while back.

As you all know "Ubuntu for phones" has been released for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Lets discuss about this being a possiblity to port on our device.
A porting guide will be posted on Ubuntu website on 22nd (which is today in India).

Great my fingers-crossed hope we can take advantage of Ubuntu in our phone

Dual Boot
Just curious, the porting guide says that Ubuntu runs over the stock kernel, if it's right, would it be possible to run it in dual boot?
Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) is having official support and currently the port is work in progress. Apart from the system partition size issue, if samsung galaxy s can run it, so can defy. This is very early stage and we can only presume such thing.

Should not be, most of the phones which can run cm 10.1 can easily handle this. Building it too doesn't look much difficult. "Ubuntu for phones" is surprisingly based on CM sources.
I've not enough speed for syncing sources, maybe Kayant or m11kkaa can build it for us.

Till it gets stable enough to worth porting, we will probably have CM 10.1 and kernel 3.0 working perfectly
A little update
I have successfully compiled the the ubuntu zip for our defy however, am facing a major issue at the moment which is the prebulit image that is needed to flash before installing the defy zip is not being installed for some reason Am currently trying to find why this is but no luck so far...... I think I may be something to do with our data partition..... maybe the preimage is too big for it??? that am not sure but I have just reduced it by deleting some images and videos included in the demo..... Hopefully it will decide to work this time
Edit - that did the trick it's working now ^_^

Hello!
I am an ubuntu user since 2006 or so and was quiet happy to see the news about it on phones but the hardware requirements are a bit stronger than what our device has. I remember something about minimum dualcore processors and 1 Gb ram. But if someone manages that'd be fun

What exactly do you mean Is the phone not booting pass the black screen after the moto logo.... if so you need to make sure you have wipe data if not the quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip won't be installed and flashed the quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip first or it will never boot.

Now, about that partitioning, there is this link; mtk6577gamingrig.blogspot.com/p/how-to-change-your-sd-card-to-phone.html
But I have not tried that partitioning, I rooted my phone just so I could change some things in "build.prop" file, and bootanimation.zip, so that everyone gets the idea that I actually have the original Galaxy S3..
If you succeed in partitioning, leave a comment here.
Also on this blog; mtk6577gamingrig.blogspot.com there are all kind of compatible games for our phone..

Hey man, could you please make SP Flash Tool backup of your ROM, and upload it on http://bitupload.com/ for me so I can fix my cellphone??
Only you can do this becouse you have the same model as I do ..
Here is how you can do it; http://bm-smartphone-reviews.blogspot.pt/2012/04/creating-rom-dump-of-your-mt65x3-device.html
First you will need ADB drivers installed, and MTKdroidTools, you can find all of the files you need here; http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/91738412/file.html and then start ADB Terminal from MTKdroidTools..
Then enter these commands;
---------------
adb shell
cat /proc/mtd > /sdcard/firmware.info
---------------
Then just continiue tutorial from that link,,, anyway... When you are done, it will be around 650 Mb in size, just zip the folder and upload it on http://bitupload.com/
Please man do me this favour.. my phone is dead with out your help, you know I would do the same for you.. :/

Emrah.

I don't see why not, you could even port native Ubuntu over with a little effort since the 5420 soc already has Linux ports.

Hmm. very interesting thanks for the info... Any hands on experience with "Complete Linux Installer" , "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zpwebsites.linuxonandroid&hl=en" Running Linux native in the device sounds interesting, but running ubuntu on the same within android is exactly what I need at this moment. In some of the devices that I use to have especially with a original rom this process is not supported. If any body had done this process in the device and could advise will be very helpful. I'm thinking of making a compatible kernel for P601 users and P605 users to make it compatible for them to migrate to other ROM developing devices ( It's okay if you are confused about it because I am too and theoretically it shouldn't be possible for these to boot the ROMs of each other ... On both ports in 605 the problems will be the same, because I did not change the kernel. Init scripts were changed, but not the kernel\dts.
P555 port almost done, my child today finished exams, I finally have time and can read and reply to all the messages. I think that by the end of the week I will find the time, I will build the right kernel for 605.
