I have a Kindle Fire HD 2nd generation 7" that was a demo model. I attempted to flash it using KFFA and now it is stuck in fastboot mode. I have tried repeatedly to reflash it with KFFA and KFHD_SRT and am getting nowhere.
Things I've checked already:
1) drivers are installed correctly on my Win7 box
2) fastboot -i 0x1949 commands are being recognized from the command line
3) I have the same result whether I use a standard USB cable or a fastboot cable
All I want to do here is get it running a stock ROM - no root, no bells and whistles, just get the thing running as it would if it had just came out of the factory box. I've tried various methods described in other threads, but nothing has worked. :crying:

This will give you rooted stock. If you allow it to upgrade normally root will be removed with the OTA.
There is a comment that it doesn't work but I just used it AGAIN about a week ago and am now running the latest stock.
Any issues feel free to contact me directly and id be glad to assist.

Okay so I've had my Kindle Fire rooted with TWRP and FFF for a while now. I was using TWRP 2.0 and figured I needed to update it, so I ran KFU v 0.9.6 and chose to install the latest TWRP. Unfortunately it didn't do what I hoped for. Instead it got me stuck in fastboot mode. Now whenever I turn on my Kindle I just see the FFF logo, and I am unable to load TWRP or do anything else (in fact TWRP might not even be there anymore because I'm pretty sure KFU deleted it when I chose to install the latest version). When I plug my Kindle into my PC Windows will recognize it as an Android Phone, however, ADB and KFU do not recognize it. I have been stuck in fastboot mode at least three times before, so I tried doing what has worked in the past which is to load up KFU and change the bootmode to normal. It didn't work so I kept trying...then I tried reinstalling the drivers...still nothing. I have also tried the Kindle Unbrick program which didn't help. Whenever I type the command "adb devices" it shows no devices attatched. I have tried pretty much everything else I could find on the internet and read through a countless number of threads which were of no help at all. By the way I have read about factory cables, but I don't have the money for one so I'm hoping there is another way to get past this mess. So if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this please help me out. Thanks.
What ROM were you using before you decided to update TWRP?

I had just switched back to the stock ROM 6.3.1
Nevermind I was able to get it out of fastboot using firekit. I guess my problem was just Windows and non working drivers. But hey I would still appreciate some help on properly installing the latest TWRP and FFF preferably with Linux.
Hey guys! I bought a couple Kindles off Amazon and I'm having some trouble rooting and rom'ing them. I assume they are on the latest software since they came from Amazon, but the KFU does not do anything. If I tried to flash recovery, root or install FFF but it just reboots and comes back on like nothing happened. I ended up getting Ubuntu installed on a USB drive so I could try the soup kit but my Linux knowledge is limited. I was able to finally see both in ADB devices (one would never show up no matter what I did), but again, no matter what I try flashing it just reboots like nothing happened.
Am I missing something here? I can't find anyone having this same issue. I do have a fastboot cable and when I use it and put one into fastboot, it will say fastboot up top and a green and red light below it. Flashing does nothing.
Thanks!
Alright, so I've gone through this process so many times but there are only two things that happen. It either boots to the KindleFire logo and freezes or it boots to the KindleFire logo and freezes with a static line going across the bottom of the device.
I HAVE gotten this to work ONCE. The very first time I went through the process. I installed the pac rom and it worked alright but I reverted back to stock Amazon OS. Now, I can't get TWRP working no matter what I do. I've re-flashed with the .img's from the Kindle Fire First Aide pack, my own backups, and KFHD restore tool. I tried flashing from an un-updated Kindle Fire version. I've tried letting it update from Amazon and then flashing. I root it every single time too. And the 8.1.4 bootloader whenever I need to. But, I can not get into TWRP.
I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong, but at this point, I've gone through the steps so many times that I can't imagine what I would be doing wrong. Is it possible that I've screwed something up internally? Help! Please!
So are you on rooted stock amazon os at this point? If so either using an adb shell or a mobile terminal run these this command:
su -c 'reboot recovery'
If a superuser prompt comes up just hit allow. I think I got the syntax of that right, I usually just su into a root shell before running my commands but I think that's how you do it as one command. Anyways post back with your results.

Sure. So I downloaded a terminal app and ran the commands and it boots just fine into the default kindle recovery menu (with the downed android). After flashing Freedom Boot and TWRP 2.6.1.0 (with fireflash) and immediately running the reboot recovery command... It actually worked. My god. Thank you so much. For whatever reason, just rebooting recovery from fireflash does not work. And holding down volume to boot into twrp does not work. Now I don't have to pull my hair out anymore. Thank you!!
Hey Everyone,
I have been using these forums for the last year and a half and It has helped me a whole bunch to successfully root all of the android devices my family has. I have however ran into a problem with a 1st gen Kindle Fire. It is stuck at the orange and white kindle fire logo. So a little background, I have rooted this Kindle in the past and succeeded in flashing Cyanogenmod's jb. I changed it back to the old Kindle interface so that my sisters can use it for reading but they wanted to use it for games. I decided that I should just change it back to jb since I would have to go through the trouble of flashing google play. Now, here's when things go wrong.
I started by using KFU 0.9.6 since I was lazy and didn't want to go through my old method. I granted SU and also installed TWRP and FireFireFire. now, I found a rom by Cyanogenmod cm10.1.3otter and decided to flash it onto my device. Everything went fine but it wouldn't boot past the Cyanogenmod boot screen. So I put another rom on (cm10.1.2) and flashed that. It worked and i started using it under the assumption there was nothing wrong. I later discovered when entering the internet password that my keyboard was not working and nothing would allow it to work. I then decided that I would get the kindle rom back on and factory reset and wipe the device. When I flashed the Kindle rom and restarted it, It got stuck and would not boot past the Orange and white kindle fire logo. After 2 full charges and 48 hours, it is still stuck. I tried to check if the kindle showed up under ADB devices and it does but when I run adb shell(for one of the guides) it comes up with "no such file or directory." When I run KFU, adb is online but boot status is unknown. When I try to run any of the tools in KFU, waiting for device is shown and does not go away despite disconnecting and reconnecting/ power on and off.
I have been looking nonstop for the past two days without any help. I have tried to follow many of the guides online, but I never succeed. Can someone please help me solve this problem, I am completely stuck.

You must enable adb on cm10 for one and the driver has to be modified for the pc to detect it due to pid and vid changes in cm10.

I am aware of that however, I cannot boot to cm10. If i could boot to cm10, I would know what to do but right now I am still stuck at the kindle fire logo.
I used the KFHD_SRT v 1.2 to flash the recovery with root. Device was rooted and adb enabled. When I first plug it in to the computer, the ADB drivers flash for a second then disappear again.
My other kindle fire hd 8.9 is rooted etc but I did it several months ago, and works just fine with the adb drivers and windows drivers work as well.
I got 1/2 way through the same install but figured out I didn't put the new mod on the device before I got well into the twerp recovery. So I wiped the old one and didn't have a new one. I had saved to recovery, but I couldn't get it to load. So I started searching around.
I was stuck at fastboot mode until I found the utility. I'm sure if I had only used the v 2.1 I would have been fine.
v1.2

I currently have kffirstaide64 installed, but until I can get back into fastboot mode I don't know what to do.
direct answers as best as I know.
Which ROM or version of FireOS: Whatever the stock os was. I don't remember the version I planned on wiping it. I never got a ROM installed.
Was adb enabled at the OS level: Yes
Was device rooted: Yes
What did I flash: I tried to flash the rocovery with root for KF 7. And I'm afraid I was successful.
