I would personally wait for Nokia WP7, Thats when you'll see some good hardware / camera etc...
I bought mine two weeks ago. It is not perfect, i'll not lie. But it is the OS that I like most (I have iPhone 4 and Droid too). Android is laggy, even with overclock, and it feels.. like a beta. Worse, Alfa version. Everything is smooth and pretty in WP7.
I was willing to wait for Nokia devices, but i read that Nokia will only release one phone this year. And seriously, I don't trust Nokia. I don't want to buy Nokia's test phone, and I don't want to wait until next year.
Just buy it already, and join us

For 3 iterations, I've always said android feels incomplete. Even on the tablet side, android feels very incomplete and I guess this has made OEMs feel like they can do what they will to cover android's shortcomings - specifically in their management of OS, fragmentation, and acceleration.
The iphone felt finished to me - even if I didn't like the iphone platform at all. Everything just worked and ran quite effectively. It was cohesive and central when it was released.
What I enjoy about windows phone is that it carries the cohesion of apple, and totally ramps it up full blast making it an incredible platform to code on, experience, and use on a daily basis.
I do miss flashing custom roms for one reason - I HAVE A DELL VENUE PRO and so far its one of the most closed wp7 devices on the market! Period! But even then, the only thing I want is root access to the registry. Not so much optimize much because the os is damn good as is.
Are there limits to windows phone 7? Sure all platforms have limits. But I think in time windows phone will definitely be a household name. All it really needs is good advertising at this point.
My biggest issue with WP7 right now is not the missing featurs, but rather the lack of quality hardware. That having been said, the Samsung Focus is very nice. It takes amazing pictures. The screen is big and beautiful. It is sleek, and has long battery life. My only complaint is how slick the plastic is. Would have been nice to have a more rubbery texture to it or something.
Like every OS WP7 has its cons and pro's but to me it's just the experience as a whole that stands out to the rest. I'd certainly recommend a WP7 device to everyone who wants to buy a smartphone. Certainly the one's who owned an Android device before like myself.
I'm happy with my Trophy. I love the hardware. Have a nice grip, and an awesome screen. Not too large, nor too small. It's just the perfect size to me.
The plastic doesn't feel cheap, and doesnt look cheap. I recommend. And it is worth a look.
Thanks for feedback ... I use the following apps remote desktop, facebook,Twitter, slingplayer, navigation and need a good quality camera .... I'm looking at the apps market to see if I can find any apps like this..... I was disappointed to see no flash for browser....

LG Quantum == great hardware
I love my LG Quantum.
I need a keyboard for business emails. I sometimes write mails on it longer than I do at my desktop computer. Try that on the on-screen keyboard.
But, if I just have a few words, the on-screen is fine. And the word-correct is amazing on WP7.
Friends at work have Samsung Focus and love it. Most people DON'T need over 8GB of flash, because with ZunePass, one can stream what one doesn't have, and then just download what they want to keep.
WP7 really is GREAT STUFF, and getting better with time.
Enjoy Windows Phone 7!

this is a really silly question, ppl who like android will tell you no and ppl who like wp7 will ask you to move....
this is really very personal... its like you asking ppl what car should i buy
you should buy if you like wp7 not because ppl think u should buy...
best thing you can do is go play with different devices in the store and see which one you like better.
WP7= fast and smooth, works out of the box great.
Android= very versatile, but does have some lag and might require some tweaking to get the best out of the device.
Just depends on what you are looking for.

+1 on this. I read an article in another post and it has me holding off a WP7 purchase for now. 5-reinstal limit on paid apps! Hell no! It aint worth it if that's how it's gonna be. At least being a smartphone it will have all the common features on phones these days, but the 5-limit will kill it for me.
Dam a limit ... well well..... that's no to wp7 .. thanks for letting me know about that

I don't think its a silly question... so far people that have had both have given me pros and cons those who have moved to wp7 have shared what they miss .... I am asking for owners experience of the phone... not if they like the color of the device...

To be clear - there is NO 5-reinstall limit.
The limit is 5 devices.
Why can't people get this simple facts right?

No offense dude but until I see oficial word from microsoft that it aint true, I'm gonna hold back.
Well for me - yes and no.
If you don't care so much about features than WP7 is in many ways great.
But for me after 3 months of extensive usage - I start to have enough of stupid limitations. In March we will get only c&p and no other functionality enhancements.
I like how this WP7 behaves but it's totally unfinished product.
I rather accept a little choppiness but have all the features than use super fluent skeleton.
BTW this WP7 super fluent behaviour is a little myth. I see little freezes all the time.
More I think of it I see myself getting Android device soon. I don't care if it is "choppy", what is kinda BS TBH. I saw many current strong Androids which are smooth.
And they have oh so much more to offer right now. Sad but true.
I can't even buy apps and nobody knows WHEN this will be possible. And so on.
It will take a year or more to bring WP7 to desired state and I think some of the very useful features will not be supported ever.
Sorry for the rant but after the joy of using something nice has worn off, I just more and more miss features which are cruical for me and it's more than one thing.
I imagine getting SE Arc....
But I still didn't "give up". WP7 is still a great foundation.

If you've been using Android especially with Sense I don't see how you could ever switch to WP7. I have an HTC Incredible and I bought an HTC Surround to play around with a week ago. The Surround has already been sold. After using Android for years WP7 seems like a joke right now. It is almost closer to a feature phone than a smartphone. I was going to keep it just to use as a Zune and for the Xbox Live features. My original Zune 30GB is 5 times the music player a WP7 phone is. The Xbox live stuff...I'm playing a game, let me switch to something else for a second...Go back to the game, wait loading? Oh yeah, no multitasking.
Maybe if you were coming from a feature phone WP7 might seem nice, but it is far behind Blackberry, Android, and iOS. Even my Samsung Blackjack with WM 6.1 was far more usable. It sucks because I am a Microsoft fanboy. I love my Xbox, my Zune, Windows 7, etc. But WP7 is pretty bad I thought.
Before anyone jumps the gun and calls me a fan boy of apple im not! I love my Galaxy.
I Was sitting at work bored and i started thinking about how IPhone is just so hated on as is IOS. So my question to you guys.
What do you think apple needs to do to capture more of the Smartphone Market. In my honest opinion I think iphone is fine hardware wise but i strongly belive that Apples needs to Rebuid IOS from the ground up instead of adding to it every year.

There's a lot apple would have to do to beat out android. Being open source and price yes just as the two above me have posted. They also need to get adobe flash player added to their devices. This is one of their largest set backs. But the main thing they need to do is stop thinking they are better than android as of now. Just because you own certain patents does not give the right to sue your screen manufacturer. Apple suing Samsung was a huge problem for me and made me sell my iPad and iPod because their using their name as leverage. Just a few opinions that I have and not in any way garbage talking about anyone or thing.

obviously the iPhone is not hated ok because millions of people bought it in the US. they are getting more hate though ever since the lawsuits. wish they didn't start that so there would be good competition and innovation. maybe we'd be further along with tech by now.

They Cant
They cant beat Android because they are left with nowhere to go as far as innovating/adding features to IOS. Android builds and builds on top of what they have often while apple just pushes out the same crap os.
Seriously put the first IOS release next to the newest and the only difference will be folders. LOL. Oh and wallpapers. Other than that they are identical. Android on the other hand is night and day from what it was to what it is now. The features are hundreds of times better and more plentiful. You couldnt pay me to go back to ios (yeah I use to be an iphone user up until the 3gs, but after seeing the 3gs I realized that they were just money gouging and not adding any damn thing) because of their lazy os.
I also love that they are stealing features from Android now and not even trying to cover it up. The iphone 5 dimentions look stupid as hell. I cant wait to see the flop that is the iphone 5 tomorrow. So damn terrible. Android FTW!

I work in graphic art and prepress systems since 1990 and all my life in work we used mainly apple computers and my conclusion is that they cannot do nothing in their attitude. This is their attitude and they think they are better than the others. Many times they was innovative but always this was their dumb because they was always kept the doors closed to others and the free spirit of a user. All their OS systems they was like that was made for stupid users, all the system things was closed and you always if you was using any apple device you needed to accept how the things are supposed to work without giving you the freedom of touching nothing. Isn't obvious that 85% of PC are with windows a big growing percent with linux and 5 or less percent with apple.
For me their last chance was the 1st iphone a phone that was pretty good in that time with fancy loocking etc but after 1 month went to girlfriend simply because again to have what I need I had to hack it or to pay a fortune for apps that a simple symbian or WM was doing out of the box.
As for the main question in this thread well I don't think they can do anything about it, this company has DNA problem and honestly I don't care now. Iphone 5 or iphone11 will be again the same plate in the same table with the same food on it, fancy announcement that will catch the chicks and some guys and that's it(and most of the Americans something that I don't understand honestly). In the era we live we must be happy that exist companies like samsung were they do the great hardware that they do and we have an almost open source software like android.

My two favourite brands are Samsung and HTC. Thats not to say I wouldn't change to another Android maker. But iOS you've only one maker Apple and, no choice apart from 16GB or 32GB. That would be like only having carrier !
I like choice and Android gives me that.

Exactly. The sad thing is so many of their sheeple will just buy it and act like its something new. Same stupid ass IOS in a slightly bigger case. So damn lame. I hate apple.
They need to give more freedom to the developers to do what they want with their app. Apple is lucky that there are so many developers making jailbreak tweaks to make their iPhone a lot better to use. Without jailbreak, iPhone is complete useless on some of the basic functions. The only advantage that iPhone has is the amount of apps they have in their appstore. Without the amount of apps they have in their appstore, I would not even consider getting an iPhone. Not that I would consider it now because S3 is such a great device.
In my opinion, they're already winning this war. It's us who need to catch up to them. I live in Orlando and the amount of iphone is staggering compared to galaxy s. A lot of people I know are anticipating tomorrow.... As long as this world exists, there will be something for the mainstream
for apple to win, they must copy Android's abilities for customization such as widgets and different keyboards. also, believe it or not, bigger screens. i remember back in the day Apple used to crap on Android saying 4"screen is way too big... oh what fools they look like now..
My life for Aiur
Apple will never catch up to Android. Ever. The reason being is exactly the reason Taysider mentioned. iOS is designed, maintained, and serviced by one company and one company alone, Apple. It is closed source and offers zero customization options. Apple imposes very strict rules on development and doesn't encourage innovation from outside it's company even if it was developed solely for their device.
Android offers a multitude of different devices to fit the needs of any user, from the beginner smartphone user to the life long developer. Android is open source and Google encourages development of customization and drives innovation actively from it's end users. Android is constantly evolving to better meet the needs and wants of it's users and Google actually listens to it's users rather than dictating what the user will want/need.
Apple will never let go of it's precious iOS. IFand that's a big if, they would let iOS go open source and allow other manufactures to use it while also allowing open development of custom ROMS and MODS they MAY gain some market share back. As it stands, you will see a small increase in market share after the release of a new generation iPhone, but it will decline again shortly after.
Just my opinion.
Android is a disease! it spreads out! and there is no cure!!!
Apple needs to bring back Steve Jobs.
It's a disease alright but a good one.
Noticed eBay and other sites that sell used mobile devices lately?
See the amount of iPhone's being dumped at these sites.
You will get the picture where 'apple is heading.

Also I've noticed especially here in Las Vegas Apple is huge with the older crowd. Take my mother for example she has an 8gig iPhone 3Gs. AT&T offered her any phone in the store for free even the Galaxy S3. She was trying to get an iPhone 4 not even a 4s for free but they wouldn't do an iPhone for free she refused she turned it down and decided to stick with your old iPhone even though the battery holds only a 2 hlur charge now.

Words of wisdom from their CEO.
HTC will only comment when its audited results are published, but an email sent by the chief executive, Peter Chou, to employees in August urged staff to "kill bureaucracy". He complained: "We have people in meetings and talking all the time but without decision, strategic direction and sense of urgency."

most company's are struggling in this present worldwide climate of recession and slow growth forcasts so its no major suprise really.
as with apple they want to take over the world there latest ios 6 and apple iphone 5 to be frank are crap.
I guess my slant was just taking Jellybean and all prior updates coupled with the bureaucracy comment from their CEO, maybe explains (as well as HTC Sense being more involved) why these guys are so s-l-o-w.
I think a 79% crash is far worse than the general industry.
Problem with HTC is the fact that they release too many low-cost handsets which don't sell very well and so they lose money quickly. I can't believe that they can't see this.
Also, another thing that's bad with HTC is the support for handsets. I bought Sensation XL back in June, sold it this week because tthey didn't confirm JB for it. I mean, it has been released in December 2011, not even a year of support for £400 handset?

There's not enough money in the high end handsets, they need massively high volumes of low to mid tier handsets. Unfortunately that's devalued their brand and image too.
When they first started to shine... with the HTC Diamond (yes, they made plenty of devices beforehand, but that was the first consumer 'wow' phone). they were innovative. Sadly for 6 years they failed to capitalise on that, and massively let down their consumers with the 'Sense' hub that was cancelled (even thought they sold phones based on that feature).
Their industrial design was really nice with the Diamond too... a great balance of sophisticated and sexy (with their glowing circle etc).
They need to get back to basics... 1 Low, 1 Mid, 1 High tier - 3 devices. Forget the many variants.
It can't 'match' the competition, it has to better them by some margin.
It needs to ditch Sense, OR introduce a brand new Sense that puts 'sexy' back into the UI.
When was the last time a HTC owner truly wanted to show off their phone to friends, knowing they'd be impressed? They've lost the WOW.
But one bright thing in their favour. Samsung, Sony and Apple haven't managed to achieve 'WOW' yet. Great devices, yes, but not 'WOW'
They are still profitible and have plenty of cash in the bank so it's not as if their teetering on the edge. But investors and analysts are getting tired of each quarter seeming to accelerate their downward slide. With the One X+, XV, and 8X on AT&T and the illusive DLX on VZW they have a chance to really move some volume in the 4th quarter because of the size of those two carriers. If with all those major devices launching they don't see some improvement I expect them to be a merger or acquisition candidate early next year. Things can't continue as they are.
It is the trend that is worrying. Like it or not Samsung has the Android mindshare. HTC have themselves to blame may it be business decisions or management issues. HTC was Android's top manufacturer in the early days.
When people think Android, they think Samsung now. It could be better publicity, marketing, global image, or even court battles, etc.
thank u`
I will pick up HTC, not samsumg, i dont like to spend my money in cheap plastic, low benchmarks phones like sg3

Htc is a billion dollar company making pinuts , I don't agree it's still profitable, when you deal with share holders. Loans ,there would be nothing left from the 100 Millions they made , HTC is like a million dollar company making 100 dollars and yet we're calling it profitable ,next 80% drop there wouldn't be anything to be profitable about
The problem is that htc dont feed me, dont give money, so... What s the point to talk about if htc make money or not, at least u r a sammy boy, really have no sense to talk about others money, just talk about how wonderful will be the best phone in earth with official jelly bean. Being profitible isn't open to debate; it's black and white. If after paying all their bills and servicing any debt they have a $100 left they're profitible. That also means their cash flow positive (not drawing on reserves to cover expenses). That's obviously not a great position for a multi-billion dollar global company but as Mark Twain said - "rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
Not suprised, it'll be all the bloody HOX's they've had to replace.
LAWL
tbh im not that suprised, i had enough of the htc one x, not lasting the day - unable to change the battery and having to carry around a seperate charger that i kept forgetting to charge,
Ive owned htc devices since xda days and they have always been to me the best phones around imho, hackabilty without losing warrenty was also a big bonus which always extended the life of the handset.
the one x is the the first htc phone ive owned ive not hacked, after having a dhd fail after 1.5 years i was worried about losing the warrenty.
I think thats where htc are going wrong, samsung have an excellent range of hackable devices (ok touch wiz is crap and superamoled is still infantacy) but the phones have some really cool features that would make the one x and the rest of the line shine - removable battery being foremost in my mind. Being able to change leds, fonts asigning keys all without having too root is what is making the difference between the two manufactors to the end users like us.
Sense is nice and polished but has become stale over time and locked down, getting a new phone with htc isnt the wow factor any more, htc need to bring that back - having to wait for months unless you voided your warrenty to remove the 3 dot menu button made the phone a joke.
i personally wish htc all the best for the future and hope they sort themselves out on future products - getting a nexus line would be a cool advancement, but i think they willl carry on making the same mistakes year in year out.
they need to be reminded they are not apple and cannot lock the devices down to a android community, thats whats coming back to bite them at this time.

There are a bunch of smart phone commercials coming out (for android devices) that feature nothing but hipsters.
1. The gs3 commercial with the hipster dad and the smoking hot wife(not even realistic)
2. The new nexus 7 commercial that android central just posted - life aquatic crap with hipster kids on vacation from their local occupy camp building some hippy aquarium.
Stop trying to be apple, this is one of the biggest reasons I would never own an apple product because they associate with the largest number of useless people that have come from my generation. There is nothing hip about a hipster
rant end lol
No it doesn't.
How are you going about classifying them all as "hipsters"? Just by how they dress?
Absolutely, thats 90% of what hipsteresis is......wearing ugly clothes and being unproductive (unless your a hipster and consider building a junk fish tank productive in this case)
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I think the other 10% is wearing those huge wood framed glasses, although im not a hipster so i dont really know the ins and outs.
I am also claiming the trademark and sole rights to ownership of the term "hipsteresis"

Yeah, how about a little truth in advertising- they should be commercials about pale-skinned kids complaining about not getting a good signal because they are living in their parent's basement. Geesh- move to the attic already! Perhaps it's not a coincidence that the iphone is 23% slimmer and skinny jeans are in vogue?
I guess that's why I don't watch too much TV. If they replaced all the hipsters with regular nerds, I would be complaining because none of the nerds were using linux.
So to answer your question, I didn't see the commercials of which you speak, but that won't prevent me from opining about them in a public forum.

Why is it everyone thinks only hipsters, freeloaders, etc. support the Occupy movement? I mean, really ... people of all walks of life support the Occupy Movement. Hell, a young man who served to protect everyones right to protest almost lost his life supporting the Occupy movement.
Stop trying to be apple, this is one of the biggest reasons I would never own an apple product because they associate with the largest number of useless people that have come from my generation. There is nothing hip about a hipster

So, you choose what product you buy not based on it's quality or usefullness but on how you think others might judge you?
(Disclaimer: 1. No, I'm not a hipster and I find them all quite silly. 2. Even if I didn't support the Occupy Movement, I'd still support their right to protest.)

No I buy the product based on whether I like it or not, but me being disgusted by its cult following by people who I find unimpressive is fully capable of influencing any decision.
I could care less what people think of me, if i did I probably would have chosen not to make a thread expressing my controversial pov.
The original Hipster was probably a cool guy, and extraordinarily original. Unfortunately the people that have stolen his originality because they are expressing their individuality have missed the point, hence all of the conflicting ideas in that last statement.
I also don't really find sarah silverman hot, but to each their own.

I believe the original hipsters where greasers from the 50's, with the jeans and leather jackets...think its just mutated since then...also hipsters have a know it all arrogance, like if you don't know about a certain book, they are too cool to tell you about it.

At MWC 2014 Nokia released 3 fully customise Android smartphone priced between 80-120€.
Let us discuss here about them.
Cunning move, make them look like WP & strip out the Google services & replace them with Microsoft ones instead & you have an effective way to get people to use Microsoft without using WP in developing markets where they are targeted.

Sideloading possible?

Yes, side loading is possible from third party stores and from the scard as mentioned in the Nokia XL hands video.

Damn I want to sideload Nokia Here asap. Free offline navigation! I'm sure it won't be too hard to hack it on other devices.
Also hoping some other useful stuff leaks, regarding No GAPPS project.
i don't like the design, it looks so cheap... If it has the design of the lumia 925 I'd buy it if it was like 300€
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Well it is cheap and aimed at low end market, but if it succeed maybe Nokia will continue releasing Android phones. Rumor has it that they'll release a high end Android powered phone later, it's still rumor though.
It kinda stinks though not having Google services, someone will probably make custom ROM the moment it's released.

We won't have Google services? Then youtube and other google apps like hangouts won't work. Will it be easy to root the device? And most of all, will we have the basic android features?

May be MS is going to kill the initiative in the near future, because it's a very dangerous movement for them. What if Nokia X begins to sell very well in detriment of Lumias?

next month I'd like to porting all my android app to nokia x. And give a try to look at that.
will be awesome specially their battery, but we may need bigger rams
Everything from Nokia is awesome but I don't know what will get from those new models with Android.
Conspiracy time: MS will completely ditch Windows Phone!!!
These days, everything is about ecosystem and market share: with a good market share you develop the app ecosystem, with a good app ecosystem you gain market share.
It makes lots of sense for Nokia to do this, as even Nokia's VP said: "...[with Nokia X] we’re offering them the best of three worlds: Nokia design and build quality; Microsoft cloud services; and Android apps." ==> pay attention: ANDROID APPS
(link: http://conversations.nokia.com/2014/02/25/nokia-x-family-sweet-spot/)
From a WP platform development perspective, what do you want to do? Increase market share at all costs so that you have a chance of building up an app ecosystem. And what is Nokia (which will be VERY SOON owned by MS) doing??? The exact opposite... I see ABSOLUTELY no reason to buy a low end Lumia now.
To put the nail in the coffin: the fact is that WP runs pretty well on low-end hardware, I guess it would be quite feasible to get a WP device at the same price point of Nokia X. It is very clear to me that Nokia saw that Lumia was not growing as fast as they hoped, and they realized it was because of apps. And then they created the Nokia X. But going back to my initial point: if Nokia, the by far biggest manufacturer of WP devices, came to this conclusion, what will MS do to change the scenario? And considering that the deal to buy Nokia was sealed quite some time ago, if Microsoft was 200% comitted to WP, I would imagine they would've killed the project as part of the deal. But they didn't. WHAT DOES THIS SAY??? MS is killing off WP in the short-to-mid term.
OK, I may be completely off here, but I'm just relieved that I just went from WP7 to Android...
