[Q] 4.4.2 KitKat issue with headset on homescreen - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

When listening to music using a headset (tried with Apollo and Winamp) the music plays through the phones speaker when on the homescreen. It plays through the headset when in the music app but when I tap on the home button to do something else it stops playing through the headset and starts playing through the speaker until I open the app again. I am currently running HellKat ROM but was previously using Alpine's KitKat ROM and was having the same problem. I have tried with both dalvik and art runtime t see if that would make a difference but the problem continued. If anyone knows of a solution to this it would be very appreciated. I am getting frustrated!
Thanks

SOLVED
After more messing around I managed to figure out what was causing this. It was Googles hotword detection feature. When it is enabled you can't listen to audio through a headset while on your home screen. Not sure why that is but disabling the feature fixed the problem. Hopefully they release an update fixing that because I do like my "Ok Google". Hope this helps others experiencing the same problem!

Thankyou!
Thankyou now I can finally use kitkat! btw this thread should be stickied.

You're welcome. Glad I could help! I am new to posting on this site and not sure what you mean when you say it should be "stickied". Let me know and I'll do it.

Um that's odd I tried power amp turned up bass all the way no luck . Recover works fine on my s2 bass and everything I tried multiple music apps
Thanks for the response
Have you tryed latest aokp?
I noticed it happened asof 11-11build of cm10 in 1104 it was fine
Not related to the kernel I use the same one between builds

Same thing on my cspire gs3 with latest cm10. As said it started with 11-11 nightly. I have found a workaround, but its kinda aggravating. Either have someone call you and hang up or call some one and hang up. But allow time for the call to come through ur car speakers. Once call is ended music will resume with bass. Someone pull a logcat after this process and get it to a dev. They should be able to figure out why and fix it.

confirmed this with my S3 and deh-6400bt as well. Make a call, bass comes back.
Oh I should have mentioned that I was running the 11-14 nightly.
This is a known issue, apparently caused by a new HAL that bypasses ALSA:
<--well, I was going to post a link, but the ridiculous "newbie" rules won't let me post links or make posts in the dev forums where I spend all my time. What a crock -->
Well, if you go to code dot google dot com and visit the CyanogenMod project, the issue is number 6570.
Feel free to Star the issue so that it gets more attention.

Music randomly playing out through speakers

Okay, so today I was listening to music, on my totally stock GS III. Suddenly the music switches through to the speaker, instead of going to my headphones. The first time this happen, it was when a song ended and a new song came on Google Music. The second time was when my friend texted me. My phone was on vibrate only. Obviously, this can be quite embarrassing especially when you are in a quiet zone. I checked to make sure the notification bar still had the headphone logo. I'm using regular no mic headphones. This happened earlier, is there anyway I can still logcat? Like doesn't it save all that until reboot? I don't even remember if I rebooted yet...probably..
Anyways, yeah, I tried searching, but I came up with threads on bluetooth and speakers just not working or crackling. So I think I might be the only one..?
Thanks for the help.
Only thing I can think of is maybe your headphone port is losing connectivity with your 3.5mm jack and it thinks no headphones are present?

1. background advertisements. Use adaware
2. poor installation/settings check google music and the app settings. worst comes to worst go to manage apps clear data, uninstall and re-install in market
It happened to me once or twice with google music player. Actually, since JB, google music is full of bug on my side, it randomly hangs on song switching, this bug, low volume bug until I pause and press play. Tried clearing cache/data, uninstalling couple of times, and no go.
I've given up on it and am now using rocket player with cloud music importer. I was never streaming anyway but I liked the google music interface... oh well
I'm on a stock based jellybean ROM rooted

Yes but the usual behavior is that when headphones are pulled out, it pauses the music.

I'm not sure what the advertisements have to do with the audio problem, but I do use ad blocker. I have tried flashing back to stick through kies and odin.

I think I might actually flash back to ics. I don't want to give up on google music streaming.

So I read around, looks like a couple of Jelly bean users are experiencing this, particularly with google music. This is of course stock Jelly bean for the s3
Its a ghost, bro

I have the same issue but I use rocket music player. But the worst issue I have is when I'm listening to music and someone calls me, after the call it puts full speaker volume out my headphones and blows my ears out. I would definitely be interested in a solution otherwise I will be going back to ICS myself; especially since I can't run Adobe Flash on web pages anymore.

I'll add to this I've had the same issues with my rooted stock JB from my google play player so I just switched players to power amp full version player and I could not be any happier!
Has happened to me twice in class. Was listening to a song in google music, song ended and the next one came on, except this time coming out of the speaker. Very embarrassing!

Recently read in a different forum that changing LPAplayer from true to false I think in the build.prop is a solution.... Can't remember where I read it, couldn't find it in history, probably was on my other machine...
Been looking into this more. Seems like more people are having this problem. Some suggest downgrading google music, some say the 11/12 update is bad, some say LPAplayer or something needs to be disabled, using default samsung player, which reminds me today I installed Pandora which happened to do the same thing so it must be touchwiz and it only happens on JB. Not trying to change my phone to CM10, thats a no for me. Has anyone found a real solution?

[Q] Using Google Play with headphones and after 1 song next will play from phone

I've used 2 diff ROMs and I get the same result. Anyone else? If I listen continuely, after 1 track the next will play out of the phone speaker not earphones or thru aux jack when plugged into my stereo. I'm wondering if this is a ROM issue or a Play issue or S3 issue.
I get same issue on stock not rooted... no idea what it is

I have the same problem when I plug my S3 into my AUX jack in my car. It doesn't matter what app I'm using, if I change the song or any buffering happens (basically any interruption in the output) the output switches to my phone speaker. I have to unplug then plug back in the audio cable from the car's aux jack to get it to work again.
This happened on a stock rom and happens on the current "GOODNESS" SG3 ROM.
I'm on the stock ROM and I'm having the same problem, except it's when I get text messages and it gets interrupted, music starts playing from the phone and I pause and re-play it again for it to come out of headphones again.
I now have another issue...now my media sound get stuck on no sound. . Can't move the sound bar have to reset phone to get media audio. .. any help ?

Same issue here. Stock or custom rom.

Everyone should contact Google about this. They are looking into it for me, they even had me send them a log. It happens frequently, still hasn't been fixed....please, if you have the same issue as me report it so they have more cases...
According to Google Play Team they made some major changes which should have resolved the issue and to let them know if the issue persists. See the attached screenshot of my email for proof (or view full screen at http://i.imgur.com/Z8Hrm.png )

Solution to Headphone Issue (4.4.2 AOSP)

I know a few of you have been experiencing issues with 4.4.2 AOSP roms. Well after much and exhausting research. I have found a solution.
Problem description:
You plug your headphones in and start using a music app. No sound. You go to the home screen and your music starts playing. If you open your notifications sound is gone. same if you open any other application or lock the phone. redering your headphones useless. the common workaround is to play the music with the speaker then plugging in your headphones. Your music will not go away after.
Solution:
I was using the workaround for a while but hated that my phone wouldn't work correctly. Upon numerous days searching i found a blog of someone with the same issue. The solutions is stupifyingly (not a real word) easy. If you have the "OK, Google" hotword enabled in the Google now settings. Your headphones won't work. Disabling the hotword makes everything work properly. Not entirely sure why, but there you have it.
Hope this helps you guys/gals out.

It's great to know the workaround. But is there a solution to this issue? I would like to enable the "OK google" hotword detection AND still listen to music on my headphones.
Running latest AOKP and issue still persists.

To be honest, I know nothing about what the developers are doing to resolve this. I too was eager to try out the feature. After a few months of not using it, i have found that i don't need it... lol. Anyways the permanent solution to this would be left to our talented devs. We'll just have to sit tight for the time being.

Headphone audio problem...

So when I'm using my phones speaker everything works flawlessly. But as soon as I plug in my headphones no audio will play unless I'm on the home screen. If I click on any app including the music player app I'm using or even go to settings or look at my notifications it stops. And it also will not play when my screen is off. I'm currently running SOKP but have tried other ROMs with and without the Agni kernel with the same results. Its quite frustrating BC I love listening to music when I'm working. Any help please? Thanks!

Its to do with GEL. Go to your launcher settings and turn off hotword detection
