My phone was bricked two times
1) The phone rest stuck to Samsung screen when I open it
2) PDXIB1
3) Samsung Center changed the motherboard of the phone
Symptoms:
Every application will respond with message: Application is not signed or missing components (or something else). Only soft reset worked - but phone did a hard reset every time. Sometimes after hard reset contacts stayed as it was (everything else was deleted). These troubles last for 3 days for me until my phone died. Board is damaged and repair will cost 310,- €.
ROM version:
28205 @96 DPI made by ironeagle
Repair:
To buy a new board and a new battery (cause the old one has been damaged too - or just use a second battery instead).
how to execute emergency mode

Anyway, when my device bricked...it was almost 6 months back.
I used quite a bit of wifi, and left my device on the charger with wifi on accidentally. When i woke up a couple hrs later...the device seemed like it was in standby charging. Pulled off the charger, but the charging LED was still glowing! Device didnt respond to anything, pulled the battery out and put it back in....and boom! went totally dead...tried different batteries, tried soft reset, format mode, emergency mode...nothing. no sign of life!
mobo had to be replaced....got it done free as it was just abt 15 days old when this happened
I think its more of a hardware fault....some units being faulty waiting to blow in your face!
Just spoke to Samsung service about bricked phones: From their experience they have changed mobo only once, when 780 wasnt charging, but was working.
But they told that in case of fault of bootloader - thay DONT restore it, just replacing motherboard!
So there is chance to repair you phone by JTAG tool.
I hope trizzio that helps.

Dude I advise you to visit http://www.omnia-repair.com/ and ask on forum if someone can do this for you. Tool is about 300 EUR and Omnia is top brick phone, so you should find services that already have it, it does support i780.
tip: use google search for more options.
Hey guys,
my phone was bricked: I'd flashed heineken's "i780 WM 6.5.3 ver.28205 DPI 96" rom. After two days some errors appeared and I flashed (&hardreset) the rom again. While connecting to ActiveSync the connection was broken after some minutes. Then I have disconnected the USB-Cable and the phone was frozen. No reaction. No hard-reset keys, no LED reaction while power-connector.
So... I'm not shure whether this problem is because of heineken's rom. But the good news are: Samsung support switched the motherboard because of 24month guarantee

Im sorry SAM.
This first version was really weird, I have changed algorythms of compile again in version 2.
But there is always way when you get starnge glitches before you get brick - to flash offical rom to avoid a brick.
As for me I never had any of symptoms..flashed 1001 time.
About bricks...
I have experienced described situations (sudden out of memory, unable to run any app becouse of errors, dissapearing data and so on) around ten times during my cooking/flashing adventures, with different ROMs from different developers. Sometimes at the begining, when weird behaviors of my i780 started, I tried flashing device with other unoficial images, but problems remained. I think I even posted about my problem somewhere...
And I could always recover my device doing one simple thing.
Flashing official PDXIB1.
But important thing is that YOU SHOULD USE OFFICIAL UPDATER from Samsung site (in my case Vista version), not a .bin under Mirage!!
I know it is stupid, but it works better (and if something looks stupid and works better, then it is not stupid any more; Murphy`s law)
In my case Mirage not always proved to be a sollution.
SO every time when that situation emerge, thats what I would do very quick:
1. Hard reset.
2. Flashing oficial Samsung Updater (tutorial on Samsung site)
About reasons bricks happens; I have found no pattern. It happens with WM6, WM6.1 and WM6.5 or WM6.5.x. Sometimes one and the same ROM works perfect two weeks and flashed next time generates bricks.
As someone noticed previously, it is probobly a hardware-software problem, some kind of memory /filesystem/ FAT? damage and it is possible to revert that by flashing official ROM..
I am not a computer scientist, but thats only pattern/mark I can see..

Hard Brick in my Defy...Help-me!!!

Good evening everyone,
I own a Motorola Defy, and tried to put the ROM "For Adlxmod Froyo Defy, "but I had the UK firmware 2.51.1.
It was there that a lack of attention, my phone now does not care anymore.
He only gets a white LED lit in front of him and does not happen any more, nor even acknowledge again by RSD.
I read in several places that this is due to firmware 2:51 and I believe I have given a HARD BRICK on my device.
Has some way to fix my phone without having to take it to an authorized?
I thank everyone's help,
Felipe

Thanks, I managed to settle with the tip given!
Hello Everyone,
My Defy run out of juce with a special 3400mAh battery from china in the night. When I came home I changed the battery (the stock battery) which was fully charged. After that the defy was stuck in a bootloop (cm7) but i did not recognize this for a couple of hours. Because of this bootloop I removed the battery and put it in again from that time on the defy was dead. Maybe I did not wait long enough - I mean I saw the bootloop and thought 'crap' took the battery out and stuffed it right in again (I was a bit frustrated). Maybe i should have waited at least 5-10 seconds before putting the battery in again?
I tried to get access to the defy by RSD lite. But the PC does not recognize it. I got a white LED by connecting it to the PC. The defy is recognized only for to seconds and than disconnects again.
I tried to flash via sbf_flash on ubuntu without any result. The defy is simply not recognized. Only white LED. No Bootloader, no recovery, no logo.
Has anyone a suggestion? Is there a possibility to get acess to the defy to reflassh everything. Since the white LED is active there has to be a way. What about JTAG and riffbox? could this be a solution and if yes - how ?
I bought a used iPhone4 last week. But honestly: I hate it!! I do not like iOS, I dont like the edges of the iPhone - it is so uncomfortable to hold it in the hands. Wifi connectivity and connection is catastrophic. I will sell it a.s.a.p. again.
I want just my beloved defy back - the only phone I ever loved !! I appreciate any suggestions - thanks in advance !!
Your "special" battery is not that special afterall
What happened to your stock battery? Just get it charged - ask a friend with a Defy to charge it for you or do the McGyver trick, in order to fire it up again and then flash your stock SBF via RSD Lite. Calm down - Defy is like a Terminator and is immortal (as long as you don't kill it by flashing wrong SBF )
Thank you for the reply. However I have a dockingstation for the defy with which I can charge the battery without the phone. The battery is full for sure!
Hope you are right that the defy is like the Terminator - I have not lost hope yet.
Any other suggestions ?!
If Defy doesn't even get into bootloader, this means there is no juice in the battery. No matter what crap one would flash, bootloader is ALWAYS accessable! That's the beauty of the locked bootloader - you can't kill it! So as long as there is charge in the battery, you can always get into bootloader (Vol up + Power) and flash a new sbf. Peace of advice: don't trust your cheap, no-name, chinese battery. Use the original one, charged in another Defy phone, so you can make sure it really IS charged. The fact you left it in an external charger, doesn't mean it is charged - battery might not be working, charger may not be working, or both at the same time might not be working. There is no reason not to get into bootloader if there is charge in the battery
Cheers!

It's blank screen problem, happens when you flashed an SBF older than your previous one.
You still can get into Bootloader, just nothing on screen but it's definitely in there. Then flash the right SBF, the same or higher build than your previous stock rom successfuly to fix it.
Which SBF are higher than other? It's about Bootloader(BL) version, read here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
If not sure, try DFP-231 builds, it's highest BL version to ensure fixing this.

Look, I've suggested to one who use Defy+, so I said he should try DFP-231.
But not for Defy mb525, you shouldn't flash DFP-231 or any 2.3.x SBF files to your mb525...
Now you've stuck to Bootloader V.7 and no way back.
What's done is done, stick to that DFP-231 SBF you've flashed for now.
Did your flash finish with "Finish/pass" or "Please manually power up phone"?
If it Finish/pass then try again on Stock recovery, you almost there.
But if "Please manually power up phone", means you're not yet flashed your phone completely...

[Q] HTC Trophy bricked after upgrade to NoDo

Hello to everyone, this is my first postnin this great forum.
Yesterday i started to upgrade my htc trophy but at the step 8 out of 10 the upgrade stopped. After one hour it was still at the same point, so (I know i probably did something stupid) i disconnected the phone.
From this moment i cannot use the phone cause even trying the camera button+volume+power it says to connect the phone to zune, but when i do it and zune starts to do a restore i ve an error 100102e "no restore points".
I really don't know what to do....somebody could help me?
Thanks in advance

Might want to go to the Dev section and see if they have a factory ROM available, and after that try to flash it from the bootloader... Probably your best bet...
I had a pretty similar experience. I did a forced nodo update (hungarian PPTP). Since I read that HTC bundled their nodo update with a newer radio (or whatsoever) I wanted to perform a rollback to pre nodo and then wait for the official HTC HD7 nodo. However, the rollback failed and left me in pretty much the same state that you're in. My device just didn't boot anymore. It always returned to the update screen. What I did was exactly what the user above me said. I downloaded a suitable stock ROM (european HD7 ROM for me) and flashed that. Afterwards I started Zune, removed the "old" device and then connected my freshly flashed HD7. Guess what, it was recognized and I immediatley got the updates. It's working flawlessly since then.
Thank you both, I ll try to find a ROM for the Htc trophy and flash it ( i ll try to find out how do it)
There's not much to find out. Hold the volume down button and press power until you see the tri colored screen saying "serial". Connect it to your PC and it should say "usb" after while. Then just start the exe file and follow the steps as told on the screen.

Proper way to initiate hard reset is to power off your phone. Hold volume up and down at same time, and just slightly press power button. That's all.
Than you need to press volume down to restore settings, and to press volume down once more to reset your phone.
If that doesn't help, you should find a proper ROM for your phone and flash it.
To find proper ROM for your phone, you should look here
you could try this... its easier...

its not for this use, but it should work... try it... several people recovered using this tool from bricked devices...

[HELP] Bricked, almost dead Defy+

i bought this Defy+ just a couple of days ago and i was trying to get CM7. I struggled to root it but i achieved it. I wiped and did all the procedure before installing it, but i didn't had enough space on my SD, so i rebooted and booted like a brand new defy, going through the Blur config and everything... So i went to Recovery again, but at this time i forgot to do the wiping - which, i guess, led to a brick.
So i managed to get a .sbf to flash it.. What i didn't realized is that the .sbf was a custom, so i guess this ****ed up my phone even more. And so i went on trying to rescue my phone but this time i couldn't complete the flashing process, i wasn't able to perform a downgrade - i guess. After this, i got a non-rootable .sbf and began the flashing. The process got stuck on some message at 0%, then i disconnected the phone.
When i was able to download a stock firmware, from the .sbf thread, the phone wouldn't reboot when RSD asked, it didn't turn on again. So i tried to re-flash it, same .sbf and now i'm stuck with this situation: the pc is not recognizing my phone, i have a black screen - not even the Bootloader error screen is appearing and i'm here, begging, for someone to help me. is it dead? can i get it back?
HELP, PLZ
Is there any juice in the battery left? Does the phone even turn on or did you just drain all of your battery? If so, you have a couple of options - do McGyver or find somebody with the same phone and ask him to charge your battery and then start over. I would strongly recommend you take the second option.

it doesn't turn on, but i guess it does have battery, i can see the led on when i connect it to the pc
Led is always on when connected to the PC - it means nothing. If it doesn't turn on, then your battery's dead. Find someone who has the same phone and can charge it for you.
I think there is no problem, but you flash older firmware, which is probably due to the 7 bootloader does not go up.

If it gets past the red m and just keeps playing the android animation then simply pull battery hold volume - put battery in and keep volume - held when you get the android and the triangle press volume + and - and wipe all, should boot, unfortunately you've just flashed the un root able sbf and are stuck on moto standard

try to boot into boatloader modus ,
If it says battery low cannot program you know what's wrong
If your battery don't charge use McGiver trick ,other battery or else
If it don't boot after flash with rsd
Factory reset from stock recovery would solve your problem

you have flashed the worst sbf you could have. i am afraid to say that the phone is now in dire straights.
the battery fixes dont work for that bootloader on normal defy red lense phones. the only chance you may have is to read through my thread but ultimately it may not help so please do your own research before you come knocking down my door.

i havent fixed the issue but i am able to use the phone but only if the battery is pre charged. no matter what i did or what battery fix i flashed i can not get the phone to either tell me how much charge is left or get it to charge the battery and sometimes i need he mcgyver trick to even get the phone boot.
basically i still havent properly tested it but i have an external battery pack on its way and will be able to confirm one way or the other tomorrow. if it goes as i hope then i will be able to charge the battery sing an external pack put the battery in the phone and use it until it runs dry. then i can charge the battery again using the battery pack and so on and so forth.
i am using white rabbit rom which has a cm7.2 base and is really very good. it also has four battery fixes you can download and there are a few more found dotted here there and everywhere on xda. you will have to search for them. all told i tried 6 and none have fixed the issue however you may have better luck than i did.
i have been told it is fixable but i didnt find one and have given up now. if the battery pack doesnt work then i am just gonna throw it in the drawer and buy another phone.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Seriously.!! Why you didn't read before doing anything. Full SBFs kills the option to revert back.
Now flash that SBF again, see if you can boot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset.

you have flashed the worst sbf you could have. i am afraid to say that the phone is now in dire straights.
the battery fixes dont work for that bootloader on normal defy red lense phones. the only chance you may have is to read through my thread but ultimately it may not help so please do your own research before you come knocking down my door.

i havent fixed the issue but i am able to use the phone but only if the battery is pre charged. no matter what i did or what battery fix i flashed i can not get the phone to either tell me how much charge is left or get it to charge the battery and sometimes i need he mcgyver trick to even get the phone boot.
basically i still havent properly tested it but i have an external battery pack on its way and will be able to confirm one way or the other tomorrow. if it goes as i hope then i will be able to charge the battery sing an external pack put the battery in the phone and use it until it runs dry. then i can charge the battery again using the battery pack and so on and so forth.
i am using white rabbit rom which has a cm7.2 base and is really very good. it also has four battery fixes you can download and there are a few more found dotted here there and everywhere on xda. you will have to search for them. all told i tried 6 and none have fixed the issue however you may have better luck than i did.
i have been told it is fixable but i didnt find one and have given up now. if the battery pack doesnt work then i am just gonna throw it in the drawer and buy another phone.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

You are not understanding, my battery is fine so i can turn on my phone without using the Mcgyver trick...
My defy is just stuck on the ( M ) screen, i read already others threads and they call it bricked, so my phone is bricked and i have to unbrick it.

Go into bootloader by pressing Power button and Vol+ button
Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable
Make sure everything is OK
Locate downloaded SBF. In popup dialog press Uncompress and start flashing
If you get " Please manually power up this phone " in RSD Lite pull battery out > put your battery back > reboot into stock recovery by holding Power button and Vol- button > Choose Wipe data/cache > Choose Reboot system now
That's it, you unbricked your Defy!

actually i did understand totally what you said and if you had read the thread i linked to you would have found the answer in there but no big deal because neo.ank has spelled it out for. do that and the phone will boot again.
the problem comes after you have got the phone flashed and running again and i guess in that respect you didnt understand what i wrote.
if when you get the sbf up and running can you please post back on this thread and let us know if the battery charges and is registered as being used... ie the percentage drops down after 2 hours of use from say 100 to 90 or whatever.
i am very keen to hear if your battery will work when you have the sbf flashed and running though so please do post back and confirm one way or the other. cheers and good luck.
THANKS!!!!

hmm thanks for replying.
are you running the stock sbf? if you try a custom rom can you let me know if the battery works and which rom you are running. did you flash a battery fix or did it work straight away with no issues?
anyways glad to hear it is all ok and if anything changes if you flash a custom rom let us know.

Don't try to do anything about it. It won't change.. It will remain MB526.. That's why it is said to be non-downgradable.
