More downloadable apps on Maclaw's rom using Play Store - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have you notice that if you use Maclaw's rom, some apps that you want to download is not appearing. You maybe thinking that that app might be took down but in fact it is still there. This has to do with the build.prop settings in /system. This is how you can you can enable more downloadable apps on Maclaw's Rom.
Step 1
_____
Go to Cyanogenmod File Manager and enter settings to enable root access.
A pop-up should appear once you allow root access.
Choose allow root access forever.
Step 2
_____
Go to root folder and enter /system folder and open up build.prop file with text editor.
Step 3
_____
Edit this part:
Original
ro.build.product=GT-I8160
To:
ro.build.product=codina
And:
Original
ro.product.device=GT-I8160
To:
ro.product.device=codina
I may be wrong and I am sorry about that but if this really works for you, please leave a thanks and reply!:good:
Note: interceptor-ng does not work on all custom roms.

Easy, just change to I9300 or 500 or so. Codina is more of a 'code name' not model number. P.S. maybe you have to edit model too

AOSP browser without root (yes you read that right) 4.3

I have a method to install the aosp browser without any root privileges at all and no modifications of the system partition. Just involves installing 2 or 3 apks (depending if you want bookmark syncing). This should work on any of the other nexus devices that came without stock browser. This is also an improvement over the root method as it does not break OTA updates even on rooted devices.
Please don't repost this yet. I want to add in the other languages to browser.apk for the "find on page" button in the menu. I fixed English. The stock nexus roms don't have the string in framework-res for this one button.
Download zip (this is not a cwm package/just extract it or open the files from inside)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/sp3778itcps5iq1/aospbrowser-noroot-blackhand1001.zip
Steps:
1. Use es file manager to browse to system/app and install browserproviderproxy (it will say app not installed, don't worry it worked)
2. Reboot (it will not work without rebooting first)
3. Install Browser4.3_blackhand1001.apk
4. Install ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter_blackhand1001.apk (this will give you bookmark syncing)

Thanks for this. Works very well on my devices.
Updated it so the autocomplete dropdown no longer has the blue line glitch. The style definition for the dropdown is missing on the stock nexus 7 rom so I copied it and put it in the browser itself and pointed to it there.
Added User agent selection in advanced preferences.
Full screen option in labs.
when u say install browserproviderproxy in system/app, do you mean install the one found in the nexus7 directory, or the one in your zip file?

The one on the nexus 7 directory. I updated the download link. It now has user agent selection and a fullscreen mode in the labs menu. The link was pointing to an older version that still had the browserproxyprovider file in the zip. You need to use the one on the device already.

vold.fstab is no longer used in 4.3. Instead, fstab.<device> is now unified. Check the contents of yours. Unfortunately, this means you'll have to unpack your boot.img, modify the ramdisk, repack and reflash.
Refer to http://source.android.com/devices/tech/storage/ although it doesn't provide nearly enough information in my opinion. I end up digging through sources for various devices.

dammit! It could have been so easy! :V
Any Solution for increasing internal sd ram size ?
Are there any 3rd party programs which can do the task for me ? I dont want to unpack .img file and edit and then repack and reflash. Just too many variables that can go wrong ?
I have Samsung Galaxy i9003 with SlimRoms --- > [ROM][UNOFFICIAL][4.3][A3] Slim Bean build.1.6-WEEKLY-1193
You can see if any of the kernel zips are using the "anykernel" method and modify the script to suit.
If you can't find one, you can download one of the zips from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181820 and figure out how to adapt the relevant ramdisk patching section (look in tmp/otgmod.sh) to suit. It basically dumps the current boot.img, breaks it apart, mods the ramdisk, makes a new boot.img, and then flashes it. Strip out all the irrelevant parts and change the partitions to suit.
Has anyone found a way to do this in 4.4 yet, specifically CM11? Switching with the build.prop isn't working for me.

I don't follow your phone, but nonetheless, build.prop mods shouldn't have worked in 4.3.
Further, starting in 4.4, the external sdcard is also run through fuse. See http://source.android.com/devices/tech/storage/config-example.html specifically the last section: Emulated primary, physical secondary (like Xoom)
From there, you can understand what needs to be switched. Again, this requires modifying the ramdisk.
I don't know if there's some sort of hack that'd allow you to change a global variable from a child. Perhaps, an init.d script would work at the parent level? If so, you may be able to switch around EXTERNAL_STORAGE and SECONDARY_STORAGE that way. The paths will remain unchanged, but proper android apps should respect the env vars.
Hi
on Kitkat, the mounting are set in the fstab files which are inside the boot.img file.
To edit them, you should unpack the img file, edit the files, then repack it in order to flash it.
The way to unpack them depends on the device manufacturer. For MTK devices, it is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587411&page=29
I did it successfully on my Cube tablet in 4.4.
For others, you should find the tools on the web...

[Q] The bests rom

Hi
What are the bests ROM for an Ace 2?
I heard CM, AOKP have little bugs. I want a very stable and bugfree one.
I will flash CM11 when it will be bugfree and stable but it isn't the case and I can't continue with ROM Stock. :S
And if I flash Italian Job (I'm on stock MC8 with a i8160P with non-p flashed rom), do I have to assert lines in updater script?
Thanks

1: absolutely zero known bugs (apart from the default theme being very lame in my personal opinion )
2: If recovery uses the build.prop from the main system, there would be no need to. I'd personally do it anyway because then I can just have one zip that will always work...

RIL?

Nope, standard model here (from the first and probably last giveaway I won...)
Most ROMs are for the normal model and will get blank IMEI if used on the P model, so you must manually replace
libreference-ril.so libril.so libsecril-client.so libsec-ril.so
somewhere under /system/lib with ones from a P ROM

Try it as is and if it fails... remove the line and try again
(unzip the ROM, go to META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script, remove the long line starting with assert(getprop, recreate the zip and flash as usual)... and if on Windows you must use some editor compatible with Linux terminators like Metapad, Notepad++ or Programmer's File Editor!
