[Q] Samsung D710BST Weak 3G - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello everybody!
I've been trying to resolve this by my own without bothering anybody but I'm a bit stuck right now.
I just got this mobile as a gift and these are my doubts.
My mobile is rooted, I live in Dominican Republic, I'm currently fine with this phone, my main issue is my 3G.
My carrier already activated my mobile so I can use their signal and data internet.
Their speed is about 1-2mb but I'm getting only about 112 kbps, that's around 1/10.
I was reading that this issue might be fixed with modem and radios but I can't figure it out which one should I pick and how to proceed.
My old phone was an HTC Desire HD and it was very different, it was easier. I mean, I don't even know how to change roms (if there's any).
But as I said, my main issue its the very slow 3g speed I'm getting.
I would really appreciated any kind of help or advices.
Thanks a lot in advance. :fingers-crossed:

I would recommend the GB27 Modem, but you have to be on the matching build (GB27) to be able to use it.. And yes there are tons of custom ROMs

Alright, finding that modem shouldn't be an issue but how do I match it with the same build? Also you when you say there's a ton of custom roms for this mobile, which ones you mean? Can I use the ones meant to be for Sprint?
Many thanks for your answer.

Download the FL24 modem, here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210
Yes you can use Sprint ROMs, you just have to change the APN and mmsc url to Boost so you have data and MMS.

Which radio would actually connect to 4G ?

Finally unlocked my EVO - a BIG thanks to the writer(s) of the 1-2-3 easy root software! Your persistence and ingenuity is absolutely amazing !!!
I have one question that may have been already answered but for the life of me I cannot find a straight answer to it.
I live in Los Angeles and the phone keeps warning me that 4G is available but it never actually connects.
I have heard that using a specific radio version will solve this problem but cant find any more info on which version that is, where I can download it and how can i install it.
If any of you Android Gods could light the way for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

Just noticed all my speedtest were connecting to NJ servers instead of boston. Switched to boston one and got better ping and speeds. Upload seems the same seems to be capped at 1Mbs

If it were only as simple as picking the right radio. Welcome to the maze that is finding the correct order of operations, fixes, hacks, etc that leads to functional 4g on a rooted EVO. Enjoy your stay!

Benefit to flashing a new radio?

I was thinking about flashing a new radio, and wanted to see what the options were and what the benefits are, if any. Or if I am just so addicted to flashing stuff on my phone that I want to be one of the cool kids with a newly flashed radio...
different radios give better signal/speed in different areas. What works great in town x may not work as good in town y and Visa Versa......
IMO, if you are going to use a gingy rom, use the latest radio file .07.07. Don't bother using anything else.

That is this person's opinion. Test each radio to see what works best for you. It all depends on how close you are to towers, and how the radios are configured. The only way to see what works best is to test them all out.
PS: This should have been posted in Q&A.
the radio mods are listed in the first sticky in the dev forum, the link works too.

This is the wrong forum... :/
I been using 08.08 and I have travel to 5 different states in the last weeks and is working perfect for me excellent signal, data speed

older radios could still be a choice, fur example 7.28 worked the best for me compared to the newer and evo versions. I couldn't get into the -70ish dBm range until I came across 7.28
What about if im from Iusacell Mexico..... i shouldnt flash other radio thank the stock that i have? thanks!

No reason to be, check the MD5 and follow the steps and your set, if you can use revoked to root the phone updating the radio is easy.
CM7 nightly

[Q] So, um...when you flash a new rom are you still on Sprint?

Seems like a dumb question I know, but I couldn't find anywhere to confirm that. I mean, I figure after rooting, all is still good. But if I flash a new rom, say CM7 or something, is that still the case? Or do I have to do something special to get back on, etc?
huh? Flashing a rom has nothing to do with the carrier.

Yes. You are still on Sprint.

I would recommend you DON'T flash a ROM. If you flash a new ROM, your phone will randomly get signals from verizon and at&t, and then your phone transforms into an iphone. Its a nasty site. Just stick with your current setup.

You know, as I read through different threads that talk about manual activation or changing carriers, it is NOT apparent that my carrier information and activation remain intact if I flash a new rom. As a matter of fact, if you step back for a second, it would almost seem a bit counter intuitive that such a large change to the phone would not affect that, especially given some of the other conversation here.
All my experience in rooting is with the nook, which doesn't have this aspect to consider so I figured I'd ask and confirm before screwing with the phone. So thanks for answering.
What you might have read is about either people force roaming on Verizon or people who have their phone already flashed to an alternate carrier. It is a very difficult process to take an inactive phone and flash to another carrier. Those settings are not touched by ROMs neither is the modem (baseband) of your phone. You must have misread and misunderstood many things.

Don't mind the signal. I usually use roam control to force roam when I'm at work but did this for demo purporses.

Thanks for those who answered. I had read just enough to want to be sure before I did anything, but suspected that it would be firm.
Thanks for confirming.

What's the Matter with this LTE option at my 7100

Well i was looking about thru all options etc and i found this:
but when i turn it on i get no Connection at all, it starts at G----E---3G---H---H+ and then no more connection. (Well i got no LTE data contract) but why is this option there? Could it be eventually unlocked via Software? Root f.e.?

I wondered this too. Think its just firmware related. But three uk keep telling me n7100 will support their 4g. So I wait to find out
Might it just be samsung beeing smart? solder an LTE chip. done!
Would be interesting to see if everyone has this option?

Their 4G is just probably the same gimmick as AT&T's claim that HSPA+ is 4G.
Well even this option is in galaxy note 1 too
It's just an APN setting it has nothing to do with LTE radio's
My note 1 also has this option!

Guys, android gives that option, not your phone..
only the "05" devices (like N7105 and GT-9305) do have LTE capability.

Correct, if you have a N7100 it is definitely NOT an LTE compatible device.

Even then the n7100 does not support dc-hsdpa, so if that's what they're calling 4g the n7100 still won't be compatible.

The phone will drop to 3G to conserve battery when data is not in use. I believe there's a way to force HSPA only, you're going to have to search for it. Your phone and its radio firmware are fine though.

Currently on giffgaff and was thinking about switching to Three to take advantage of DC-HSDPA and eventually 4G, but it's worrying if the data connection is that flakey.
Sorry I can't offer any help but will be keeping a close eye on this thread and hopefully will give some insight about the Three network. The lack of 2G fallback for calls also bothers me.

4.1.1 7105 on t-mobile does not do that, works fine.
I'm having okay data connection using the modem in your screenshot. N7105 on Three.
3G H H+ all working fine but there are some dark spots where I can't get data even with H+ on full strength.
