Which radio would actually connect to 4G ? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Finally unlocked my EVO - a BIG thanks to the writer(s) of the 1-2-3 easy root software! Your persistence and ingenuity is absolutely amazing !!!
I have one question that may have been already answered but for the life of me I cannot find a straight answer to it.
I live in Los Angeles and the phone keeps warning me that 4G is available but it never actually connects.
I have heard that using a specific radio version will solve this problem but cant find any more info on which version that is, where I can download it and how can i install it.
If any of you Android Gods could light the way for me, I would greatly appreciate it!
AJ

Just noticed all my speedtest were connecting to NJ servers instead of boston. Switched to boston one and got better ping and speeds. Upload seems the same seems to be capped at 1Mbs

The latest radio and wimax is a big improvement, I could never go over 5-6 on the old radio. On the new ones I just got over 10Mbs today. I think for you to use the new wimax radio you would have to wait for Damage to update his rom though. Im on the latest fresh rom.

Benefit to flashing a new radio?

I was thinking about flashing a new radio, and wanted to see what the options were and what the benefits are, if any. Or if I am just so addicted to flashing stuff on my phone that I want to be one of the cool kids with a newly flashed radio...
different radios give better signal/speed in different areas. What works great in town x may not work as good in town y and Visa Versa......
IMO, if you are going to use a gingy rom, use the latest radio file .07.07. Don't bother using anything else.

That is this person's opinion. Test each radio to see what works best for you. It all depends on how close you are to towers, and how the radios are configured. The only way to see what works best is to test them all out.
PS: This should have been posted in Q&A.
the radio mods are listed in the first sticky in the dev forum, the link works too.

This is the wrong forum... :/
I been using 08.08 and I have travel to 5 different states in the last weeks and is working perfect for me excellent signal, data speed
Sent From My Optimized HTC Incredibly Dinc
older radios could still be a choice, fur example 7.28 worked the best for me compared to the newer and evo versions. I couldn't get into the -70ish dBm range until I came across 7.28
What about if im from Iusacell Mexico..... i shouldnt flash other radio thank the stock that i have? thanks!

No reason to be, check the MD5 and follow the steps and your set, if you can use revoked to root the phone updating the radio is easy.

Yes. I have a GSM version of the GNEX here in Canada and am running s custom 4.0.3 ROM and my signal does this ALL THE DAMN TIME!!!
I have flashed several radios and none fix the issue. The only thing that seems to work is either going back to the STOCK 4.0.1 ROM that came with my device or to flash the Android Revolution HD ROM which is based on 4.0.2. On that ROM I dont lose signal.
I am getting quite frustrated about this issue too. I have posted many time in various threads looking for answers and NO ONE seems to have any idea about this which I find weird as I have seen countless others with the same issues as I describe.
I had similar issues with my N1, and it turned out to be related to the older SIM card I had. You may want to consider a new SIM...

Thanks for the reply. I have a new thread open to try and generalize these issues more clearly. Please see here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487239
Also... I have 2 different SIM cards from my provider and one is a bit old (but works just fine in my SGSII) and one is new with a different number and this happens with BOTH SIM cards.
Again, please see the thread I have linked here for more info.

There are so many posts related to this question, you didn't mention what have you read; perhaps list what your basic understanding is first.

Hello, I tried this version HCT_PX5_9.0_ota (20190612) .7z with MTCE_CHS_V3.30 but it doesn't work I'm still in version 8 and mtce_chs in 2.93.1
David..
It's a good question as some of these threads are like a needle Ina hay stack..
don't worry about MNZ.. he is glued to this set of threads and forgets people have a life outside of XDA and flashing ROMs..bit of a cranky sod..
I am in the same boat as yourself..
Been rocking with a stable system for the past 12-15months and as we haven't been driving as much due to Covid haven't been bothered to read through 1,000s of pages..
I think they are actually up to V10 now?
And I keep getting the upgrade screen on mine when I turn it on..
For me as I am running Hal's version I think it's better to just fork out the $12 euro and let the app auto it in the upgrades..
Then of course you got problems with the new MCUs.. quick reading in those threads almost makes you not want to upgrade if things are going stable as they are..
I mean hell.. GPS.. radio.. video .. music.. and blue tooth calling.. if it's all working why go screwing with it..
But getting back to your question.. if some one wants to summerise into this thread best pathway forward.. go right ahead I for one would welcome it.. as some of those other threads are getting bogged down with cross postings of versions.. would take you a month of Sunday's trying to work out what is what..
K.I.S.S would be the go.. we are simple folk and just want to know the fast track info.. [emoji854][emoji854]

Mi 10T / 10T Pro - GPS test

I am considering buying this phone but I am worried about GPS reception.
I posted the same thing over the OnePlus 8T forum - because I still seriously consider both phones and my money is burning a hole in my pocket.
Could anyone please install "GPS Status apps" and post signal screenshots here?
See:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest
Once installed, please:
- Open the app in your office/house. Wait a bit until GPS locks on, take a screenshot.
- Go outside. Wait for GPS lock and take a screenshot again.
If you wish to compare it yourself, take another phone (Samsung Exynos/Huawei Kirin has usually superb GPS reception) and just do the same with those.
Thank you for doing this!
Ps.: If you want motivation, I'll pay you a beer even.

Thank you! The signal seems good strength. It's the only thing matters 99% of the time. Like if you see green bars, its' superb.
My OnePlus 7 Pro barely had orange signals which meant it'd drop out frequently while driving AND when I was on feet in crowded streets, it could not find the proper street ever. It was a nightmare.
