I just flashed Carbon 4.3 last night, and when making phone calls, the recipients can barely hear me. This has been an issue on a few ROMs I've flashed, but I do not know how to resolve it. I've tried searching, but can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's a well known issue with custom roms for opgpro. That usually happens if the custom rom you've installed is intended for a different model (i.e., using a rom for e980 on F240x model).
If you're on T-Mobile, there's an audio fix.zip that keeps popping up. I dig the name BTW

I make sure to never install ROMs for anything besides the E980 (which is the model I have). I've browsed the Carbon release thread for the ROM, and it doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else. I was wondering if there are configs or files I can transfer over from PAC-ROM 4.3 that would fix the issue (I do not experience the audio problem with PAC)? Also to be noted, I'm running on AT&T service, not T Mobile (there seems to be a somewhat similar issue with the T Mobile OG Pro's, but the fix doesn't apply to my device).

Ya. Figured I'd ask. Well... I've never had anything like that. You should try out 4.4 though. Might make a difference.

Thanks, my name is actually an album title by Insect Warfare. And I don't have this issue with all 4.3 ROMs, only a few. Others are fine. The only reason I avoid 4.4 is because of the major lack of customization features. It kinda sucks for me cause I don't use PIE or Halo, and I figure porting those over to 4.4 is taking the spotlight. I'm a sucker for color customization and all of the tiny little tweaks, which will probably get ported last, hah.
garbled voice with 4.4 ROMs on T-mobile
I have the same issue on T-mobile. Using any 4.4 ROM results in my voice fading in and out during the call. ROMS based on stock work fine.
I have tried the kitkat in-call audio fix, and it does not help.
I think the problem is due to the noise cancelling microphone on top of the phone. If I cover up the small hole at the top with my finger during a call, the voice quality gets a little better, but still very faint.
Anyone know how to disable the top microphone?

Okay, so as we all know, there is still a semi-persistent bug with the Notifications sound+vib on the FCxx builds. Gladly, its working better than it used to, but it does go out sometime, and I have been resorting to rebooting the phone to get it back up.
Clearly, thats not a good solution. So after I started paying attention to what was causing it, I've been working harder at finding the root cause and solution to this problem.
Here is my list (from my experiences) of what has been causing the notifications to stop:
1) Putting the phone into silent/vibrate mode and then back to sound
2) Touching the screen while the phone is unlocked while simultaneously receiving a text (thus causing it to silence the notification)
My solutions:
1) Reboot (this sucks tho)
2) Go into the Phones task manager, clear ram, then call yourself.
I've noticed that if you call yourself, and let it ring AND vibrate, it brings the notifications back. For some reason, it doesn't work 100% of the time for me, but it does work like 95%, which is a good start to figuring this out.
Any help and tests from you guys would be most appreciated. Maybe we can help the devs in finding the cause of this bug so they can stomp the **** out of it. Thanks!
My notifications always seemed to stop working after making or receiving a phone call. Not sure about the other causes. I'm on FC 18 now with no issues so far.

It's a bug for touchwiz based ics roms. Anything aosp based like cm9, aokp, and code name won't have the problem. It's odd for them to not fix this bug throughout their many leaks.

I can testify that the issue is/was in AOSP roms. Had it on AOKP and Codename... Havent seen it yet on Codename nightly however.

There's something strange about the notification sound bug..after a phone call sounds are gone, clearing the ram brings them back.. The weirder part is if I receive a text during a call I can hear the notification during a call..I'm not a Dev so I'm clueless but maybe that info can point someone in the right direction

well i've tried cm10.aokp and miui. and seems i cant record anything using either the stock app or a download and if i do manage to its seems its really low or has a bunch of static. also in arket when i try to search for an app using my voice it just acts as if i didnt say anything or its not receiving what im saying if anything at all. i was wondering if this is just me or can anyone else confirm this. i had one other person confirm this on miui but on aokp and cm10 they just say those bugs were fixed weeks ago. any help is greatly appreciated
nvm it seems i have to put my face right next to the top mic like literally and scream at it on those roms for it to pick up anything. which is odd because stock does at a normal distance >.>

Is anyone having a problem with an inline mic not working at all on their GSIII?
Ever since approx CM 10.1 beta 4 the mic on a couple pairs of headphone no longer works. The mic no longer receives sound during calls and pushing the single button has no effect in music players like it used to. Headphone ear buds still play sound just fine.
I updated to the most recent nightly and problem still persists.
I'm just not 100% sure it its a problem with the ROM or if coincidentally for some reason my headphone jack has failed and is no longer receiving mic signals.
Anyone else having this problem or know a fix for it?
Odin back to stock and test. Then you will have your answer.

I doubt it is CM.

I've had lots of random issues in the past where Poweramp wouldn't respond to the buttons on the earbuds (never used one with a mic). Would work fine for a while, then stop. Poweramp is almost never updated. So that has to be a CM problem.
Also, Tasker was no longer reading my notifications to me while my earbuds where plugged in. Worked fine for months on every nightly up to a certain point. No longer works. I think headset plugged isn't being registered within the OS anymore.
My money is on CM bug.
Weird definitely. I figured there being no talk of it it wasn't an issue, only person to ask this lol... Hopefully it is a bug within cm only though. Someone pull system/usr/keychars|key layout/general file and compare them, I fixed this issue with LiquidSmooth 2.2 release which in turn fixed Carbon's exact issue. Maybe they changed something and/broke something.

yea I thought about that but I didn't particularly want to go through that trouble if it was already a confirmed CM bug that other people were having.

Like mt3g its the first I've ever heard about it. Just nandroid backup. Odin root 66. Test. Restore nandroid.
At least for me its not too much to do to be certain. Your call though, of course.

You mean comparing the two files?
What am I look for a difference in?
Yes compare the "general" in system/usr/keylayout & keychars... I just put them side by side in notepad and scroll and check to see I'd they're different in any way at all. Better yet you can just push them, remove the current ones and replace them with new ones and then reboot.... That's how I fixed the issue with Liquid a while back surprisingly lol.

If I had more time these days, I'd have a look at the commit history, but the wife and kids are making more demands on my time than I can handle and still have as many hobbies as I'd like. This thread is subscribed, though. Thanks everyone for having more free time than I do.

Well the news is in.
Running stock Touchwiz rom the inline mic worked perfectly with calls and controlling music.
But back on CM 10.1 latest nightly and it no longer works again.
on a side note I'm pretty pissed. Some how between the odin flashing of stock and cwm flash of CM 10.1 half the **** on my sd card including my titaniumbackups and my nandroid backs up are no where to be found. My music and several other old app folders are still on the card but not the actual important stuff I needed to restore. Whats weird is my SD card still shows the same amount of data on the card but I can't find any of it anywhere.
Always keep a backup of internal stuff, people complain too much for their own mistakes.

But this obviously shows that it is a CM bug right?

The ota was 4.3. Also didn't you just get a similar post like this locked. Go to android development section. Download a few and try them out. Read the ops to find out whats in each. Xda encourages reading.

Actually Beanstalk has another huge flaw IMO. It will not reliably connect to most car's bluetooth. When it does, it typically drops out within 5 minutes. I'm running CyanFox 4.4 and the bluetooth works fairly good, not perfect but good.

Beanstalk is awesome if you don't need the car bluetooth. I actually put it back on and used it for two more days before I decided that I really needed it to connect to my vehicle. CyanFox is better, not perfect. I doesn't connect automatically, so I have to actually connect it every time I get in the car. It also has disconnected on me several times in two days although it does reconnect automatically. All the features work, I'm able to make and receive calls, scroll through my contacts on my car's nav screen and stream my music to my vehicle. Hopefully a fix will be coming for all the 4.4 roms and bluetooth because it seems to be a problem.
Several months ago I loaded up a CM based rom and found out when talking to people on the phone, they couldn't hear me. It was fine when using the headset cable and possibly Bluetooth.
I've looked all over CMs website but I can't find whether it's still an active bug or if it's fixed.
Does anyone know if this is fixed?

Good question. I dont know either.

I believe u have to add or replace this in your build.prop
persist.audio.handset.mic.type=digital --> replace digital with analog
persist.audio.dualmic.config=endfire -- replace endfire with false
Since i changed it i haven't had any complaints so far but flashing to new nightly makes it revert again, keep that in mind.

Update: the build.prop edits fix the in call mic problem. Big thanks JustinNL, this was a headache for me!
