I'm guessing this is just an issue with my particular tablet, as I can't seem to find anything to suggest this is a widespread issue, but I just thought I would ask anyway if anyone else has had this issue?
Basically, about once a day the rotation just stops working, usually stuck in portrait. A reboot always sorts it, however, it usually goes again in 12 - 36 hours, with no apparent cause that I can see.
I've done multiple factory resets including wiping and NOT restoring the apps, but to no avail.
Anyone else ever had this issue? (Although I think I probably already know the answer).
FWIW, totally stock 4.4.2.
Try flashing a stock rom. Flash different kernels. Worked for me. Before I was using an app called rotate to lock me in landscape when my tablet would not auto rotate.

So my auto rotate has stopped working. The box to indicate that it is enabled is ticked, and it was working fine yesterday.
I have tried recalibrating both in normal and safe mode to no avail.
Reset my phone plus recalibrating in both normal and safe mode to no avail (this has now caused the storage issue after backing my phone up yay )
Has anyone else had the screen rotate issue? Have you been able to fix it?
I am also on stock, branded t-mobile so would also like to know can, if anyone had the same problem, this be fixed by the 1.29 update? As I am currently on 1.28 (the auto rotate not the storage, I read that is resolved on 1.29)
Good day,
I have unpleasant problem at my I9190. Every 5-7 minutes my device becomes to lag for 4-5 seconds. It doesn't matter if you watch a film or Youtube, play games, or just work with the interface. Every time periodically an image becomes to lag, but sound continues to work without problem. I tried to make wipes but it doesn't help. Also I tried to reinstall stock rom. Can somebody describe what is the reason of it? Root or what?
My previous I9190 (was changed because of the problems with screen) works without these glitches.
Appreciate if you will help me, these lags are really annoying.
Sounds like some hardware is causing those intermittent freezes. If you are certain reverting to stock everything and flashing in custom ROM + kernel still causes the issue then you might need to send the device in again.
I tried to flash CyanogenMod for interest and lags dissapear. After returning to stock they appeared again. Can't understand the reason, really. I tried to use smartphone with and without sim, with and without external card, with and without root, the result is the same. The only thing I can think that one of stock apps or processes makes these problems but who knows..
So ever since I rooted and xposed kit kat, my nexus 7 has had this odd rotation bug. Mind you I only have gravitybox installed. If I leave my tablet in any orientation for about 10 minutes after a reboot, it will get stuck until I reboot again. This only started recently, and I haven't done much to remedy it because I don't want to deal with restoring all my stuff. Is there anything that might fix it short of this?
Same problem
I have been having the same issue since around the kitkat update. Exact same issue actually, can't figure out how to fix it. I've already factory reset and tried to install a different rom and nothing =(. Need to contact asus for warranty i think
Here also often the problem that screen rotation stops working. Which is very annoying for instance when using Flo before sleeptime while loading battery. In that scenario reverse portrait is needed.
When googling a few months ago before KitKat I found in Google Discussion Groups topics with a ridiculous amount of people with same problem starting from Jelly Bean 4.3 (I think). There it appears it is a often occuring Android bug on all Nexus devices. Even factory reset or reflashing firmware not helping. Apparently not fixed in KitKat.
But not fully informed and 100% shure further about this anymore now. Have to reinvestigate. But it is most cerainly not a hardware bug. Otherwise rotation would never work.
Most of the time in my case rotation stops only working for a little while since KK. However since about a week it rotation won't start working again for a long time like while using JB.
Tried lots of things which seemed to work and than later not. Such as shutdown and power on. Soft reset/hard reboot by long pressing power. Etc.
Probably I will now use same temperary solution as in JB. And hoop fix will come finally from Google. That means using a 3rd party rotation app from Play Store during moments Android rotation has stopped working. Not all those apps working though when Android's rotation itself stopped.

I installed hd widgets and use the tilt lock control button.
I've had a 2013 Nexus 7 since it came out, and I never really had any issues with random reboots for the longest time. I had even rooted and was running a custom ROM/ kernel, and I had no issues.
It seemed to start once I had installed a different ROM/ kernel, while I was trying new stuff out just for kicks. I started getting random reboots, and I thought it was just the particular ROM/ kernel combination. Figured it was a bug that would get fixed in future updates, so I just tolerated it for a while. But, it persisted through the ROM and kernel updates.
So eventually, I switched ROM and kernel for something brand new, thinking I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. Nope, still got random reboots. I've jumped around to some other ROM/ kernel setups over the last couple weeks, and no matter what I'm on, I still get random reboots.
It seems to mainly happen while I'm using Chrome (though, in fairness, a majority of what I do is browsing the Internet, so...), but it's also happened once while in the camera app, and also once while the tablet was "asleep" while casting a video to my Chromecast.
It's just getting kind of annoying, at this point. Last night, it rebooted four times in the span of about 45 minutes. Is this a known issue? Are there any fixes for this?
I'm having a similar issue. I run default 4.4.4 and have found no pattern to why its rebooting.
I found a possible solution of switching to ART (instead of dalvik) in developer options. Not sure why this should work, but the tablet hasn't rebooted last day using this. Along with a factory reset (which hasn't helped), I have no real solutions. Next step for me is to reflash the default ROM again to see if this makes a difference.
Any extra tips would be appreciated.
I've been using unlocked international M8 for more than 5 months, and I've never had any problems.
Few days ago I updated it to 4.4.4, and everything worked perfectly. But today I've noticed some strange issuses.
1. Screen turns on by itself
2. Auto-rotation is off, but screen is still rotating in every angle (including 180). I can even rotate screen on lockscreen, home screen or app list.
3. I can't browse the web because pages are constantly refreshing them by themselfes.
Phone is fully stock, never rooted.
Anyone has similar problem? Or does anyone know why is this happening and how to solve it? Any help is appreciated.
Random bugs after an update can often be resolved by backing up your personal data and doing a factory reset.
