[Q] Unidentifiable U.S. Sprint Galaxy S III Error - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello, I recently tried to install a zip file onto my Galaxy S III that supposedly contained Team Win Recovery Project v2.4. I used the Clockwork bootloader to install it, but after doing that the phone wouldn't start. Instead, it freezes on the screen that says "Samsung Galaxy S III" and, oddly, the lettering is a pinkish/purple color. I had root the phone, but i didn't have any mods or kernals installed. I can't seem to find this error anywhere else online, and am unable to fix it. When booted into recovery mode, clockwork still opens and i have the same options as usual. I have factory reset it, cleared the cache, and formatted everything possible through clockwork but nothing changes. About 30 minutes ago I clicked the reboot bootloader button, and it has been at the "Downloading... Do no turn off target!!" screen ever sense. There is some text in the upper left corner that says:
ODIN Mode
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-L710
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: Enable
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
Please help if you have heard of this error or know a solution!
P.S. I attached the zip file that I installed onto the phone, although i don't quite understand the files in it

What version of Android are you on ? If you are on Android version 4.1.2 , or lower go to THIS THREAD.

What you flashed was not twrp recovery. Its leankernal for the verizon s3 so its not even for your device. The above advice will not work as I see you were on mk3 (the latest ota). So I recommend you just start from scratch by flashing the mk3 odin tar available here since flashing that kernel overwrote system files as well

You need to run the exe. Its a self extracting archive. The end result will be an extracted .tar file which you load in the pda slot of odin. If you need adtl help, google is your friend

Thanks much! The phone is working fine again. My friend showed me a program called kies that finds and installs the stock flash for you, so I used that and it worked like a charm! This hasn't deterred me though, I've rerooted and I'm ready to start messing around with it again (hopefully with the correct versions this time).

Just stay in the Sprint S3 forum and you should be good, and if you're not sure ask first.

ClockworkMod Recovery for the Samsung Epic Touch 4G
Mad Props
Thanks to everybody involved with the original rooted kernel, including zedomax and shabbypenguin as well as tanimn.
Also a big shout out to AbsolutZeroGI, my hommie WR47H, and fordmanck.
Here we go...
This is a recovery tar file to be flashed with Odin. It will give you Clockwork Mod Recovery on your Epic Touch 4G. *NO data will be wiped! you are going to need kies for drivers. Download that here.
1. Download Odin 1.85
2. Download the flash-able recovery tar from the link below.
3. Extract Odin somewhere on your PC.
4. Open Odin3 V1.85 and on the left side ONLY have AUTO reboot checked (VERY IMPORTANT)
6. Check the PDA slot and then press the PDA button and navigate to the Tar file and select it
7. Now power off your Epic Touch.
8. Once fully powered off, press and hold volume down, home key, and power button at the SAME time.*This will take you into Odin mode.
9. Plug your phone into your PC.
10. You should see COM# (the number doesn't matter) in the ID:COM box
11. Press start and let it run through the process!*
12. You now have clockwork mod as your recovery!
Downloads
acs-eb30-clockwork-epic-touch-4g-sep-20-4-00-pm.tar (6.33 MB)
Now if you would like to also have root just download this and flash it in clockwork recovery.
Please do not post any mirrors without the permission of myself or others on the ACS team.
Here is a youtube video explaining the process.
Awesome

F$#@ Yeah!
I am already rooted will this still work? i like the root i have now from the other thread?
broke root!!!!!!, thanx...also if i could get the regular galaxy sII startup screen back that would be nice. Thanks.
So we still need the pit file to flash this recovery? Or can we just use the tar file in odin and we're okay?
Damn, things are happening fast! Many thanks
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Again ill ask i already have root from the other thread would i still do all this again even though i already have root?
You can flash this over the previously released tar that gave everyone root, and the pit is not needed, so you should be fine.
How do I test that it worked?
not working, flashed this file, broke root, now cmw what so ever

Added init.d support
Added Root Permissions with Chainfire's SuperSu
This ROM was cooked with dsixda's Android Kitchen
Thank you and credit goes out to the both of them.

I have posted this ROM for safetynet/fall-back purposes.
I've noticed fellas posting please help, I forgot/didn't make a backup.
This is for you. Worried and maybe even a little scared that your phone is now a beautiful paper weight.
This ROM is completely stock with added init.d support and root.
It is still odexed, and with stock kernel.( I'm still learning/attempting to build one with extra governors and over clocking abilities ).
Instructions below....
1. Unlock your Bootloader by following the instructions at htcdev
1a. If you've succesfully unlocked your Bootloader, that means you have your fastboot files on your PC and know in general how to use them.
2. Download an openrecovery of your choice. I personally use TeamWinRecoveryProject 2.2.0 without any issues at all. (See the attached File)
3. Place the recovery.img that you have chosen into your fastboot folder.
3a. Change the name of the .img to recovery.img (just easier that way when sending the flash command)
4. Now open a terminal while in the fastboot folder.
4a. On Windows- hold shift+right click the mouse then click open command terminal here.
4b. On Ubuntu- CTRL+ALT+T to open a terninal then cd fastboot.
5.fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5a. ^^^^^ Type this into the terminal. ^^^^^
5b. You now have a custom/openrecovery.
6. After the recovery.img is flashed, reboot your Bootloader.
6a. fastboot reboot-bootloader
7. After booted back into bootloader, use your volume-down button to highlight Recovery.
Now press your Power button to select it.
7a. Now your are in Recovery!
8. Click Wipe, then Cashe, then Dalvick, then Factory Rest, then System.
8a. This will wipe all of your phone nice and clean for a fresh install.
9. Click Home, then Install, and find the ROM.zip, click it, then install. Let it finish installing the click Wipe Cashe/Dalvick.
10. Navigate back to the Home screen and click Reboot, then Bootloader
10a. I hope you have a copy of the ROM.zip on your PC.
11. Open the ROM.zip and copy/extract the boot.img from inside it and place it in your fastboot folder.
12. Open a terminal once again.
13.fastboot flash boot boot.img
13a. Let it finish.
14. fastboot reboot
15. Enjoy.
These instructions are for use with TWRP (TeamWinRecoveryProject) They may be different using CWMrecovery (ClockWorkMod).
I made a backup of my stock rom via twrp. Updated the kernel and installed shpongle. When I tried to go back to my stock via twrp it would not boot due to the kernel. I wonder if that will be the case here

u flashed shpongle? that means u are GSM not CDMA so this ROM just simply won't work
as for returning to stock, u can always flash a sense kernel duh

This should allow me to update my PRL, right?

going to try a full format of the sd card...

What was a network fluke?
I'll cross reference the updater-script to another one I've used on a different Rom I cooked and have been running for over two weeks..... See if there are any differences between the two.

Ok I found a difference in the updater-script, the update binaries are identical so that shouldn't be the issue. Problem I have is that I don't have a working computer to fix the updater-script. It won't be until June 26th that I can apply it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
P.S. are you flashing with TWRP?
Yes sir, TWRP. and no worries, it apparently just isn't your ROM. Angry HTC and jmz's stock ROM both give the same error. even after a full format of the SD. Rhythmic Rom 1.4 works though, and is what I was running. Was trying to return the device to somewhat stock tho as im either going to sell it or let my gf use it, so I was hoping for stable and to have the charge LED and icons working, hopefully.

If you downgrade TWRP to 2.3 you should be fine.

ah, I'm on 2.5, so I'll look into that...
did the downgrade to TWRP 2.3.0.0, still the only thing i can install is Rhythimc Rom, everything else fails to install... unless i just got some really crappy downloads, so i'm off to try to dl the roms again...
Actually, instead I swapped out recoveries for CWM. aaaand it worked.

Replace the android recovery from TWRP

Hello, recently I did root my S3 L710 (Sprint) following this tutorial [HOW TO] Easiest Root and Recovery: SGS3 LTE Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, Rogers and was successful and the first thing I wanted to do was a backup with TWRP, install it with GooManager, and did the combination (Volume Up + Center Home + Power button) for 5 seconds, but I appeared the stock recovery.

According to what I read, you must do the following:
Removes /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p left by OTA updates in order to preserve stock recovery. Read the CWM instructions carefully!

But seeing that these files are in the system, I'm afraid that if I delete it, the S3 also problems.
I would like to know if it is safe to remove them? whether, if so, the TWRP recovery will become the default?
Thanks!
That picture you posted is TWRP custom recovery? I don't understand what's wrong.

You can flash TWRP right over CWM or visa versa makes no difference. Cnexus has a set up in which you can have both and switch between which ever you want to use. But it makes no difference which ever you prefer. I personally think CWM works better on my S3 but I use TWRP on my Gnexus because it works better on that device. Let me see if I can find and link @CNexus thread for the switching recovery. And no you do not have to remove any files.

Flash the Team-Epic-root_from_recovery.zip and it will rename those files so that they cannot do any harm (the zip is somewhere here, just search).
As for my recovery switcher, its right here.

I understand, installing the zip file whit Odin3, it automatically turns on the recovery TWRP by default.
In closing, I install TWRP with GooManager, but if I do it with the zip through Odin3, overwrite?

No....you're misunderstanding, do the following.
Power off your device
Boot into download mode
Flash any recovery (you can switch later) through ODIN (it should be a .tar.md5 file)
Pull the battery (DO NOT REBOOT, PULL THE BATTERY)
Boot into recovery from powered off
Flash the Team_Epic_Root_From_Recovery.zip through recovery
The stock recovery will now stop replacing your custom recovery. You can now flash another recovery if you want to.
The TeamEpic.zip file gets flashed through recovery, not ODIN.

Hi, I already made the process more or less:
- I put the CWR of this package GalaxyS3RootUSCanada.zip with ODIN
- When I was in CWR, Flash the Team_Epic_Root_From_Recovery.zip
- Went well, I emerged a problem:
By making the combination Volume Up and Center Home buttons, I went the CWR, when I want to backup or Reboot system now, just lay on the logo, forcing me to remove the battery.
That there will be happened?
* Edit: I went back to install the TWRP from GooManager, replacing the CWR, and TWRP recovery is the default
Thank you very much for the help!.:victory:

M8 Stock recovery

hey XDA, I've got an M8 on Wind Mobile with clockworkmod and a stock ROM, and there's a system update I can't take without the stock recovery. I searched all over the place, but couldn't find the correct recovery. Can someone point me to the download or upload the stock recovery from their phone pretty please? The CID on this phone is GLOBA001. Bootloader unlocked, and S-ON.
Download OTA, select install later. Copy OTA zip from internal storage/Download to PC.
Open OTA zip with 7-zip, open firmware.zip, extract out recovery.img
Use this extracted recovery.img then continue OTA

I'll give that a try, thanks
Hey, I downloaded the OTA but I cant find the file anywhere. I tried OTA snatcher, but nothing happens. I cant even find the file at all. I do have root. how else can I get the OTA onto my PC?
EDIT: Never mind I got it. flashed the recovery but its still not taking the update, it just hangs on the white htc screen. cant boot into the stock recovery at all.
Maybe I'll just start a new thread then...
There is no need for a new thread. Keep everything in one thread. So anyone willing to help you can easily find info on your problem.
Have you try press & hold both power and volume up button, when it goes black quickly release both buttons and press & hold volume down button. This will take youto hboot then select recovery and check whether stock recovery is properly installed.

tried that many times. When I select recovery, it just hangs on the white htc screen forever, never booting into the recovery and I have to force reboot it. The only recovery that seems to boot is clockworkmod...
Just forget about entering the stock recovery for awhile as there is no reason for you to go in there except to check the error log when doing update.
After you installed the stock recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img), reboot and do OTA again, download and select install ... what happen then ?

Yes, then it boots back up normally into the old version, 4.4.2 and asks to apply the update again.

I feel it's odd that it didn't go to recovery when you correctly installed a stock recovery. If the recovery image is wrong version, it still go to recovery and give error mark (the famous red triangle) but yours it just hang .. I run out of idea.
If you have time, maybe you can make a nandroid backup of boot & system (don't need data as it contains your data) and upload for me to have a look at it. Then I can rebuild the nandroid for others too. So far I don't see any Wind backup at all on XDA or anywhere on the internet. So it's up to you. If you do, you can put in dropbox or Drive and PM me the link.

Go into recovery and do a "factory reset" and a full wipe then
put the phone into download mode and Odin flash the proper
firmware for your S6 Edge+ phone.
Be sure you odin flash the S6 Edge+ G928T official stock firmware.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Open supersu in your app drawer and in its settings disable it.
Then Uninstall supersu.

i downloaded the latest os firmware COJ5
and when i plug it via odin it will show as current bynary and system status as custom
I found this problem in most of Samsung device it won't wipe fully, when we flash it will load the existing data along with this,to make a clean install of your firmware, first go to recovery (other recovery is recommend other than stock)
then make sure to wipe all the contents in recovery including data and cache, then flash firmware now your problem solved.
warning!!!!! back up all your data before proceeding.

visit this link http://m.androidcentral.com/t-mobile-releases-sim-unlock-app-one-device-only-so-far
I will try it later ,do you recommend one specific file to flash ??and thanks for the reply
Unfortunately I can't suggest the exact file better go to Samsung website and there you can get exact link based on your country and network.
Keep calm and do your work, most of the time we make minor mistakes during this, good luck
hello i dont have problem with my data i can delete it,but i flashed twrp, performed factory wipe, even system, flashed the latest os ,and continues without booting completely, stuck on s6 edge plus logo
Try philz-touch recovery. It's like cwm but I think it has more functions. Go to fresh install or something to that extent. Then format all your data partitions. Reboot it into download mode and try flashing it again. Unchecked restart in Odin press vol-, home and power then it will reboot. While still in the Samsung screen press vol+, home. Go into recovery and factory reset. Then reboot normal. It works for me all the time. Good luck.
