Hello there. Just wanted a question answered. I just bought a note 2 (coming from the HTC One) to try the note line without breaking the bank. What I wanted to know is if I could flash international note 2 ROMS on the tmobile version of the note 2. I'm loking for a ROM that basically mimicks a lot of the note 3's functions and also has unique looks and customization with exposed and wannam. I think I came across one on the At&t forums so I also wanted to know if we could openly flash At&t roms on this variant of the phone as well without issues. Also, ive read a little and have seen many posts about issues with wifi and fixing it with some kernels. Can someone elaborate on that please? Thank you for your time.

Ditto Note 3 would work fine for u. Check out SkyNote as well.

If your T-889 is still on a 4.1.2 software version and hasn't been updated to 4.3 you may experience wifi initiation problems on 4.3 touchwiz based roms.
You can remedy this by either updating to the new official 4.3 version which installs the knox enabled bootloader, or use PC odin to flash Dr Ketan's bootloader to enable the rom and device to work out wifi start up. A third option is flashing a custom kernel specially the devil kernel by derteufal1980. I have had mixed experience with devil kernel but overall it is good. I personally stock with the stock kernels as they do everything pretty well.
Personally I would go with the Dr Ketan bootloader patch option as it doesn't "burn any bridges" or limit future use like the official bootloader can (causing version regression hassles, allowing knox to pop e-fuses etc). Using the bootloader patch will allow things such as triangle away to work so that you can get back to official stock status for whatever reason you have (selling the device, return for factory service etc).
Others will tell you differently for a variety of reasons that are, at least partially IMHO, valid in a practical sense. Their opinion is valid for their circumstance, I have different needs than they do. YMMV.

They are all the same except for the installation method. If you choose the official upgrade methods you will automatically get the new modem during the process.

Got cha. Thank you! I was checking out that rom too. Looks clean and nice. so im assuming being t-mobile phones, if we want to flash international version rom, the section that must be used is the 7105 correct?

Thanks for the information! really apprciate it. Hopefully the phone is not updated to 4.3. I'm receiving it tomorrow. will definitely flash that bootloader for sure. Thanks for the awesome tip!

Before you flash anything, boot into stock recovery mode and check if the screen has a line saying knox warranty void or something similar. If I only has device counter you can go ahead and do what you need to do. Once the knox bootloader is installed, there is no going back (a big reason why I prefer the patch option).
If it has one that mentions knox counter don't bother with flashing any bootloader stuff as it is already been taken down the 4.3 update path.

Wow, Seems like knox is a giant headache from what you;re telling me. But even if it has the knox bootloader, will i be able to root, flash a custom recovery and custom rom or knox totally just kills that?

Knox is an obstacle to be dealt with. You can do all those things with it. Doing things like reverting to previous versions of Android are more frustrating (and less obvious) than with the old bootloader.
Also, once the knox bit is tripped there is no known revert method. If you ever need knox functionality you are out of luck. Most people will never need it at this point. Samsung may or may not decide that the warranty is invalid based on knox counter status. People have stated both Ok and void results. YMMV.
Rooting a knox enabled rom can be tricky but doable as long as you follow the processes outlined in the guides.

I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 with no issues.

My note 2 has always been stable on 4.1.1 stock and I debloated it myself. So when ever an update came out rather than risking my stable phone I would just flash the new baseband from it and keep 4.1.1, until tesh stopped updating his thread. Recently my screen cracked so I used my insurance for the first time. The new phone came with 4.3 and the knox bootloader plus the CMK7 baseband. I did a cwm backup on my cracked screen phone. Used odin to flash cwm onto the new phone, which did cause knox to show I did but who really cares since the phone is so far out of warranty anyway. Then loaded my cwm backup onto the new phone. What I ended up with is my nice stable phone with everything working plus the new baseband CMK7 stayed but the bootloader is still the new knox one. Everything is working just fine, so whats the big thing with everyone saying you cant go back from 4.3? I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1 just fine via cwm.

If you use PC Odin to go backwards there are uncomfortable results.

How many of your posts are worthless? All of them? You sir are whats wrong with xda. The fact that every one thinks you cant go backwards from 4.3 just got proven wrong as long as you do it with cwm and not odin apparently.

There are multiple threads regarding your cool story.
The issue people are having is not being able to downgrade to 4.1.x OS. Its the bootloader that people were discussing and when coming from a 4.3 bootloader is impossible to downgrade to the 4.1.x bootloader/s.
Maybe doing a search in the future will get you some answers about the whole 4.3 bootloader and downgrading that you're taking about.

Ok but like I said I have the 4.3 bootloader and a 4.1 rom with no issues using cwm. So there is no issue with having a 4.1.1 rom and the 4.3 bootloader. If you have nothing constructive to add then dont post anything.

Clearly you haven't played with 4.1 long enough to see what the issues are, Its been well known that you can return to a older rom.
but knox has issues by doing so.

Lol long enough? How about since release day when I bought it? My phone is stable as can be with no force closes completely self deblaoted, working wifi tether, bunch of xposed modules and everything is pefect. For the most part the OS that a phone releases with is typically the most stable, there are obviously exceptions but I have been doing this since the G1 days and as soon as you start getting flash happy is when you have issues. Only thing I update is the baseband/modem. Also dont name call over the Internet its childish but then again most people on here are typically teenagers. Could you elaborate on the issues knox should be causing me but isn't?

This topic has been mentioned many times, there's no room for the useless bickering going on in here.

Need General GS3 Help and Info

Hello folks.
I am new here and am not sure how it all works so please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong spot or am asking something that has been beaten to death already.
I have a AT&T GS3 I747 . I received the OTA 4.4.2 update for it and used it just fine. One day i got a bug in me to root and flash it. I rooted it, installed CWM 6.0.47 or something like that and installed Gummy Rom running kitKat 4.4.4.
I would love to return my phone to 4.4.2 with or without root. Is this possible? I have read and read to NOT take these backwards after JB 4.3
I have looked until I was blue in the face for a rom to use and am drawing blanks. I probably found one once and didnt know it. I can flash and all that and do it regularly, I just don't understand all the fancy lingo so I probably overlooked what I am looking for.
So bottom line, is it poissible for me to go back to stock 4.4.2? I would love a stock rom minus all the at&t bloatware since I will be unlocking it to straight talk.

First thing to do is update that custom recovery, or at least confirm you're on the latest version. I think that version you quoted is a little dated, and that has potential to cause you some problems flashing ROMs. An easy way to get and install the latest recovery is an app called Flashify.
Next have a look around the development section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3-att/development
You'll find some debloated TW ROMs for that stock feel without the AT&T & Samsung junk along with plenty of other good ROMs to choose from.

It's wise of you to be cautious @DjPorkchop.
You are correct, you should never again downgrade your bootloader and modem, also called firmware and baseband. The very latest AT&T OTA updated bootloader and modem to NJ1, it is part of the 4.4.2 stock install. The OTA before that loaded NE4 bootloader and modem, they were also in a 4.4.2 stock rom, but you can not downgrade to them if you are on NJ1. AT&T has not issued an newer bootloader and modem than NJ1.
The good news is that the custom ROMs do not flash bootloaders and modems. You are safe to install even a 4.4.2 custom ROM on NJ1 firmware for this reason. There are stock system dumps available, with these you have to use caution because the bootloader and modem may be present, not always however. Talkingmonkeys has a TouchWiz based 4.4.2 ROM, TMS3KK, that is available in two versions, the second is heavily debloated. I am using the 4.3 Android version and will be soon updating to the heavily debloated 4.4.2 version. (He's still doing some minor theme tweaking on the newer version.)

How do I tell if I am on NJ1 or NE4? As I recall, I got the 4.4.2 update and all but immidiatly after had my phone shut off. I don't recall ever getting a 2nd update to 4.4.2 as long as my phone was active. I have been known to be wrong before though.
And I thank you much for the info. I will go check that thread out as soon as possible.

There is a "Samsung Info" app in the PlayStore that will give you the info.
Or, in a terminal emulator you could enter:

So off I go to figure out what I am going to do to this phone. I am going to visit that thread you mentioned to me and see if I can make heads or tails of it and get a rom for this phone. I ike Gummy rom but it is a bit to much for me. I really want to get back to as close to stock as I can get safely without bricking my phone.

Ok so I revisited that page again and I can't make heads or tails of what to do. I know for certain I am on NE4. That is all I know. Any suggestions from that page to get me as close to stock as I can? I see there is a stock theme revert as well on that page.

That room comes with a dark theme. The revert is not needed unless you want the lighter colored stock theme. I use the dark because, supposedly, a dark setup is a little easier on battery drain compared to light or white themes. I didn't install the extra battery mod, he had enough options built into the rom to suit me.

Upgrading Modem?

Hello all. I recently spent 5+ hours rooting and turning my VZW Note 4 into a "developer" phone. I've rooted a lot of phones, but this particular process had me pretty frustrated. I had several problems with the software versions I was using. Anyway, I'm curious if I should upgrade just my modem firmware to the latest included in VZW's 6.0.1 release. On my old Android devices, I used to do this with great success. Signal strenght would increase (or worsen), GPS signal would be better, etc. Is this included in ROMS and/or is it safe to do this?

Oh man,lol don't tell me that. I just bought a note 4 off swappa and it'll be here wendsday probably. I have been wanting a note 4 for along time. Only reason why I never got it was because of root and BL being locked down. Now that there is custom roms & kernels I bought it and can't wait to get it. Is it really that bad to Root and BL unlock? If it took you that long it'll take me days because I work 12hr job 7 days a week. I'm just trying to find all the necessary files I need to download now that way that will be done with.

Look in @hsbadr's Jasmine ROM thread. There's a partial firmware to flash that will update both the bootloader and the modem to PF3, which is the latest and greatest. It's required if you want to use Jasmine 7.0 or @chevyrhoad's Grace 7 ROMs.

It's a matter of being familiar with the tools. The process is pretty rudimentary. If you have a knowledge of linux and/or abd you'll be fine. I had trouble when my phone decided to start boot looping. Turns out it skipped my mind to wipe the cache/data clean after a stock odin flash. After all is said and done, the process is fairly simple. Also, King Root is a big issue. If you dump a fresh ROM from odin onto your device, install King Root, and attempt to root it it will root successfully everytime, the first time. On some other ROMs it can give you a considerable amount of trouble. I recommend resetting your lollipop to defaults, rooting it, flashing to the 5.1.1/6.0.1 hybrid, rooting again, and then continue about your business. There's a certain set of steps that makes this process painless which you can only ascertain if you have done it.

Can I flash "N910VVRU2CPF3_PartialFirmware_PatechedKernel.tar.md5" from his thread overtop of my TRWM and CM 13 ROM? I have both installed, and I'm wondering if I can just boot into the bootloader and odin this to the phone. CM 13 supports it, so why not? I'm just worried about it a kernel malfunction.

To the best of my knowledge, it does nothing to the kernel. All it does is upgrade the modem.

Do not take APH1 Update!

After taking the APH1 update on my phone, I can no longer downgrade to PG5, and I also can't flash the PG9 U firmware. I don't know what Samsung/Verizon did, but it's ridiculous.
I'm now stuck on the APH1 firmware and can't get on the U firmware at all.
I haven't tried rooting, but there is no Odin firmware for APH1 yet, so I'm not going to try until there is, so that if I mess up my phone I can fix it.

It probably incremented the bootloader. I upgraded to it because I am just losing interest in root all together. Somebody will chime in with a more technical explanation.

Agreed. For some reason I just don't really care about rooting the S7. Maybe I've just rooted too many phones and lost interest.

For me a lot of it is this is not the most conventional root, not very stable for me and battery life suffered a lot compared to stock, and flashing U firmware has not been very cooperative for me.

So thoughts.... I am on the latest U firmware on my 930V. Should I consider flashing back to the stock Verizon rom? Everything is working great. I do plan on jumping ship from Verizon in the next year or so. I am blown away at how well this phone runs stock and only flashed the U in preparation to take it to another carrier afterwards. Is this a bad idea?

Tried to live with root, but the battery and stability was horrible. Now, I am using the engboot to do any data back up or restore tasks in TiBU then flashing the AP again to unroot. Data is maintained, but now I have to live with ads. I use adguard, by it feel like it hurts battery life. Will try and quantify that soon.
Being able to count on my phone to make a call and hold a charge is too important to me. Rooting the phone to set it up after a reset saves me time. Unfortunately, rooting with our current method is too prohibitive for daily use.

Same here.

I have a 930U that I use on Verizon. I use the 930V firmware because I like having visual Voicemail. I have rooted 3 different times and gone back to stock everytime. I suppose it because of the engineering kernel but root with the S7 is just not stable. The battery life sucks and you have to do so many things to fix the lag it has just become not worth it. Also the 2 latest updates from Verizon have been good on battery. I do like not having Verizon logos all over my phone.

I suppose it because of the engineering kernel but root with the S7 is just not stable. The battery life sucks and you have to do so many things to fix the lag it has just become not worth it. Also the 2 latest updates from Verizon have been good on battery. I do like not having Verizon logos all over my phone.

Give stang5liter rom a whirl. Been on it since it was released and have no issues besides nearby devices not working for me.

Been using the same ROM for almost a week with xposed and everything is fine. I feel great without seeing the ads again. haha! BTW, I didn't try the nearby devices so no comment on that.

I have the G930V and am running APH1 with root no problems. The lag was horrendous but after changing the CPU governor to "interactive" on BOTH CPU's (little and BIG) it's been running smooth. I'll run like this for a bit... but stang5liter looks like it will be my next move.

Has anyone with ph1 tried flashing another rom such as stang5litre?

So how did you root if you can't downgrade like the OP stated?

PH1 doesn't break root. You just can't downgrade to older firmware's or flash any U firmware's. PH1 is still completely rootable.

So you can't Odin flash back to a stock image if you get in trouble or want to unroot. I guess I'll stay on PG5 for now.
I'm not rooted now, but was able to disable system update notifications using

By disabling:
System updates (com.samsung.sdm)
System updates (com.samsung.sdmviewer)
and securitylogagent

Im somewhat confused. Your saying you cant downgrade from ph1. Are you talking only with odin? Reason i ask is stang5litre rom is APE1. And as was stated a few posts up, this rom can be flashed on rooted APH1. Which would take you back to APE1. Therefor downgradable? Any help is appreciated.

Ph1 upgrades the boot image therefore you cannot Odin flash back to stock pe1 which is the older boot image.
You can still root and flash stang5litre which is the pe1 rom, but you still have the ph1 boot image.

The ph1 image is available at this link (http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=78F84FCD811E11E69B2DFA163EE8F90B). I have flashed with these files and they work perfect.

Seems bootloader was uograded to version 3. So may be possible to flash between tmo and vzw and vice versa. Both now have v3 bootloader.
