[Q] Backup, Unlock, Root, Custom Rom? - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE A "TUTORIAL", IT´S JUST TO DOCUMENT MY STEPS TO GET AN CUSTOM ROM!

Ahoi Matrosen! (German for Hello )
I´ve decided to unlock the full power of my lovely Ascend P6. But i want to make it the "right" way.
My Plan so far:
1) Make a full Backup (in case i have to use my warranty, i like to fully reset my Phone to its original status)
2) Unlock
3) Root
4) Install CWM
5) Install custom Rom
---
What I´ve found by myself:
1) Nothing...? Any Hints/Tips/Help?
2) I´ve found these german description:
http://www.huaweiblog.de/allgemein/general-bootloader-unlock-fuer-alle-huawei-phones/#more-6066
Google Translate English
3) I´ll use on of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390491
4) I like to try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2632542
But i´ve Firmware B125...don´t want to brick my phone with CN-Firmwares . Any Hints/Tips/Help?
5) This one sounds good:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2630208

So, what do you think? Is this the "right" way? Any Ideas? Help?
Thanks in forward!

When you want to install Hyd52rom for KK you don't need to go over the Chinese firmware just flash the KK beta. And I don't know if the unlock code helps.
Gesendet von meinem HUAWEI P6-U06 mit Tapatalk

1) Full backup is not possible. What you can do is to have a backup via TWRP or CWM. After flashing your backup, you can reflash the stock recovery via fastboot to make the changes seamless.
2) That's really interesting. Never have seen this method before to unlock the bootloader. If it works, you have found a new way to unlock the bootloader for our Huawei P6 community! That would be awesome! Otherwise, you will have to go through the risk of bricking by flashing B118cn or B120cn. Or you can try installing Kitkat beta since I heard that it also works, and it is much less risky. I would probably install the kitkat beta if the method you showed didn't work.
3) Well that works. But if you are on kitkat you will need a different root method such as flashing superuser.zip.
4) TWRP is better than CWM imho. I used to like CWM the best, but TWRP was easier to use and had more features such as charging battery, having access to terminal, backups, restores, installing zips and wiping certain partitions. CWM on the other hand in my experience can only install zips, do backups and restores, and do a factory reset (format /data only). So I highly recommend TWRP over CWM. And the link you posted of TWRP is for kitkat.
This is what you can try with least risk of bricking:
i)You can update to kitkat directly with unlocked bootloader.
ii) Do what I have on my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49986799&postcount=10
and you will have TWRP easily installed.
5) I can't help you with this one, never tried it. TBH I am skeptical that a ROM can be that good especially with hardware as a limitation to certain features. But by all means go ahead and try it if you want to.

Thanks so far!
Does the order i´ve suggested make sense?
Unlock > Root > TWRP?
I think we need a compact tutorial. Any Volunteers?

I don't know, but I think this one here is quite good, if you are looking for one.

It lacks a order of how you should get to a custom rom, but everything from instructions to unlock, root, disassembly, themes are all there.

Base: B125
Okay...what i´ve done so far:
1) Unlock the Bootloader (success!)
Used this Method:
Unlock Bootloader - Fastboot Method
Things learned:
a) The easiest way to enter fastboot is by "adb reboot-bootloader" via cmd
b) hisuite Driver works fine
c) There is no "Fastboot"-Option on the P&, don´t look for it
d) The article above states it will do automatically a factory reset, in my case, it didn´t! So i can still make a full Backup after next step...
2) Installed TWRP (success!)
Used this Method:
Permanent Recovery TWRP 2.6.3.3
3) Doing full Backup on my SD-Card with TWRP
Currently waiting
Next step planned: Install custom Rom.
No guarantee this works for everyone, but i´m happy right now . I´ll update this Thread.

Well I guess this is good news. The bootloader unlock no longer requires going to B118cn or B120cn! Now just via terminal

Backup completed.
4) Rooting Device via TWRP (System reboot) and Play Store Method (success!)
So, time to sum up:
Unlock B125, intall TWRP, make Backup, Root. SUCCESS!
Next Steps/Questions:
Install custom Rom: Which one is the most "stable"?
Install custem Rom: Do i have to install Stock Kitkat Beta to install Kitkat Custom Rom? Or can i just install custom Kitkat Mod right away?
TWRP: After update to Kitkat...do i HAVE to update TWRP (special version for Kitkat)?
Thanks!

Worked for me too. And before when i check if my bootloader is open there stands it was open, I tried to flash something that doesn't work.
Than I used the command and than i was able to flash TWRP.
And also he didn't make a factory reset.

I think it is best for you to install stock kitkat beta to install kitkat based roms, even though some people haven't run into issues without doing so.
And yes, I would recommend you to update TWRP to special version for kitkat, but yet again, some people haven't experienced issues while some have.

Okay, currently downloading Kitkat Beta (using Mirror from huaweiblog.de; sorry, can´t post outside links; not sure if it is the same like here). Let´s see where this story ends
OT: Any way i can get rid of these google captchas?

Hi. I guess I read all the postings from this thread. So I have still one question left. Did you check if your b125 bootloader was locked or unlocked before you started?

For me he said it was locked from the beginning.
Problem right now: Can´t use Kitkat Beta Update.app viá dload method...alwas TWRP starting .
Any Ideas?

Install stock recovery before flashing KK. There are several descriptions how you can do that.

5) Revert to Stock Recovery to update to Kitkat Beta (success!)
Using this method:
Revert to stock recovery ( B118 )
6) Installing Kitkat Beta viá UPDATE.APP/dload-Method (success!)
Now on 4.4 . Kept every APP/Setting as far as i can see.
7) Installing TWRP for Kitkat (success!)
Using this: TWRP Recovery 2.6.3.7 | ONLY For Android KitKat
Sigh...long way to go

I followed your steps and flashed TWRP, but now I can't get into the recovery. How do you do it?
My P6 just keeps showing the Huawei Ascend logo...

So u didn´t intall TWRP?
Usally, if your P6 stucks on Huawei Ascend Logo you are in Fastboot Mode. Excuse my bad english, but i don´t really get your Problem.
What was your last step, what are you planning to do?
---
8) Installing Custom Rom (success!)
Using this: LightningKat RC02.1
Looks good so far, still testing...

Sorry, it's a little bit late
I managed to install TWRP and rebooted.
But now I can't boot into TWRP. If I send "adb reboot recovery" or press VOL- and Power when the phone is off the device starts and gets stuck at the Huawei Ascend Logo

Please disconnect your Phone from USB (in case you are still connected) and just power off the phone. Wait a few seconds and just restart. For me this one worked.
After this power off again and try VOL + and - and Power to get into TWRP. Does it work?

[Q] Ok this is doing my head in.. LG G3 L5.0 rooted install

Rito guys,
I have used IOS for the past many years and bought a LG G3 855 (australia 16g, this is the international on yea?) 2 days ago.. I quickly found a website that guided me through the LG Flash tool method of updating to the leaked L version D85519H_00 and away I go! Now what I didn't realize is and as this website explains http://www.androidpit.com/lg-g3-android-update that rooting the device is nye impossible now...
SO, after more and more searching around I have found I needed to flash back to kitkat 4.4.2 and then do a TWRP backup thingy from this install method of a modded/rooted L http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-lollipop-rooted-rom-skin1980-t2936022 then install the rom through recovery? I have had no luck (mainly because I don't what half of the terminology means) doing the modem/backup with TWRP to begin with as most methods need the device rooted (which I can't do now after my first install of L5.0..)
Can anyone clearly paint a picture for me on the steps needed to achieve rooted L5.0?
OR
Is it worth keeping the L5.0 leak version (non rooted) and when LG releases their official version just do a software update and wait for someone to figure out how to root that? (I'm assuming here I can just do a software update on top of the leaked version to upgrade to the LG official here?)
Cheers and thanks for your time guys I'm super excited to be an android user now and no idea what I wasn't sooner!
Jacob
We need to have Android 4.4 KK
Installation:
1. We must do ROOT -
2. Next, you install TRWP
3. We go into Recovery (TRWP)
4. Recovery enter the Wipe and enable - Cache, Data, and we do wipe Dalvik
5. Wipe Exit tab
6. We are entering a Instal
7. We are looking for our files and install one after the other (without rebooting):
1. ROM
2. SuperSU

I think I understood everything

Hey thanks for your fast reply!
Your instructions look spot on for a normal situation but as I mentioned at the start I can not root my device since I installed the leaked L5.0 version, apparently it makes it a lot harder to do..
Also I should mention I can't get MTP working so it makes it even harder to do the TWRP backup without rooting the device first.
This is the only option at this time to have root on 5.0

Flash 4.4.2 KDZ. Root it. Install twrp, etc etc etc.
Yeah mate your best bet would be to use the LG Flash Tool 2014 (Readily available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190 ) to flash back your Android 4.4.2 KitKat ROM if you want to root it, since without using a custom kernel and then flashing a custom recovery that supports that rooted kernel, we can't yet achieve vanilla root on Android L. Make sure if you flash back an older ROM you do it via CSE (CSE wipes all data on the phone, used for major upgrades, but a normal flash just attempts to update the system and keep your data, useful for small software updates).
Your other option would be to do as NZfoR said above and flash back down to 4.4.2, and then re-flash the already rooted and bumped ROM and kernel he linked you to, therefore giving you root on Android L.
That being said, although we can't get one yet, we've got the best devs in the world here on XDA, so it won't be long before someone finds a bug in the boot-loader that allows us to achieve permanent root (In fact I believe that someone already has and is just working on a way to exploit it).
We've also got the best community here, if you need help for pretty much anything regarding Android and specifically your G3, there's always at least 1 person here who knows how to solve it, so ask questions!
Good luck, you won't regret coming over to the sweet-side of mobile phones
Cheers guys! I had tried downgrading to kk 4.4.2 and tried to stumproot but it said my software had been patched SBD could not be rooted. Like I said I think installing the leaked L5.0 its changed something making it harder to root now..
I'm finding it hard to do the TWRP backup 1. I don't even know what it does or how to do it 2. I've had 2 days android experience haha... Keen to teamspeek or Skype call iDefalt?

[Q] Rooting with locked bootloader (? HELP)

Hi! I've been trying to root my Z1C with various programs, like towelroot and etc, and it's not working. I read that you don't have to unlock bootloader (unfortunately even I want to, I can't ) to root your device.
I know that there's a lot of other thread about this. But can we acces root without flashing or something like this? I'm really a beginner in these things. Or there's a way to downgrade android (I really don't want this, I like this new Lollipop)?
Oh and without unlocked bootloader, can I get in recovery to install zip files? Sorry for these silly questions.
Can someone help me please? (sorry for my bad English, I'm Hungarian!)
My build number is: 14.5.A.0.283
you cant root you phone IF you are on Lollipop ROM you need to downgrade to KK by flashtool and best is KK108. After that simply download newroot by munjeni and turnieju on USB debugging and unknown source. And pług your phone to pc and start newroot and thats all. Very easy

Okay, now I downgraded back to KitKat, now I'm fully rooted, with dual recovery. So....now if I flash the new android via recovery, the recovery will disappear???? I mean, I want to install root from recovery on the 5.0.2.

Flash CM13. I am lost

Hi Guys,
I feel completely lost with all the guides to flash my ZE551ML.
- Root (I counted 3 ways to it)
- Unlock the bootloader
- Install recovery (So much alternatives)
- And Finally the CM13 Rom
In some guides, there are files from April or June 2015.
I already flashed Android Devices but with the Zenfone 2 I feel anxious about all the doc around.
The way you root and the recovery you install will affecte the CM13
Is there a clear up to date step by step that tell what to do not options I can have?
Thanks
Step 1. Unlock the bootloader.
Step 2. Flash the TWRP recovery 2.8.7.0
Step 3. Download and insert CM 13 and gapps pico 6.0 x86 in your internal/sd card.
Step 4. Boot into recovery using Vol buttons + Power.
Step 5. Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system.
Step 6. Flash CM 13, and then gapps from your internal/sd card.
Step 7. Reboot system.

Thanks man,
It is more about the files to use :
To Unlock the bootloader (img file, driver and adb tools)
I see that from your steps there no need to root?
I downlaoded those files : from mega /#F!k4MHiAgL!dVuOKeH3eokcwPSNI79ffw!pkVXnYLK (And they are to root only if I am not wrong)

What is your device? ZE 550 ML or 551 ML. There are official apks available on asus website for both models. Download them and install them.
Bad idea using the official unlocker it is still giving errors, I would do more research here before using the official unlocker

I Have the 551 ML Variant.
Indeed, I read here in one Thread to avoid official unlocker and this is what is causing headaches. To Many info so at the end you learn nothing.
So what do you recommend as method and with what files?
Thanks.
To unlock the bootloader through the unofficial way, your firmware has to be 2.19.40.20. If your firmware is newer than this, then you'll need to downgrade. If not, you just need to upgrade.
1. Downgrade to 2.19.40.20: http://www.asus.com/zentalk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=12528 (before downloading the firmware, check if your device is CN or WW)
You'll need to downgrade both the firmware and recovery to the same version, which is 2.19.40.20.
2. Root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/zenfone-2-root-easy-t3114003
3. Unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/congrats-to-bootlocker-unlocked-t3138547
4. Flash custom recovery (I chose TWRP): https://twrp.me/devices/asuszenfone2.html
Download the twrp-2.8.7.2-Z00A.img image and follow the steps under "Fastboot Install Method (No Root Required)" to flash it.
This is how I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the TWRP custom recovery on my Zenfone 2. If you follow each step as described, you'll be fine. I don't know if there's already another easier way to do these things, but this is what I followed and worked flawlessy.
Also, there is a tool called WinDroid that promisses to do all this a lot easier, BUT I haven't tested it myself, so I can't say if it really works or not: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...l-windroid-universal-android-toolkit-t3206907

Root H815 on MM 6.0 V20d?

Hi guys ☺,
I bought today G4 eu model,it came with Marshmallow 6.0 V20d version.
I want to root it because of Greenify and Xposed,to increase the battery time, maybe later to flash some rom but...
There is a lot of topics on this subject,I started to read but I'm lost right now...as far as I saw,I can't root Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader, only Lollipop, right?
Is it a big trouble to go back from MM to LP?
I'm not new in this flashing and rooting stuff,I had (still have) a Motorola Razr XT910,I flashed it 100 times for sure for 3.5 years but I didn't had to unlock the bootloader (it's impossible anyway) and there's a custom recovery Safestrap, modified Twrp which allows to flash and use 6 different roms, from JB to MM,without changing the kernel...
I will be grateful if someone can point me in the right direction,to give me some useful links etc.
And is there some list which procesess are safe to freeze with TB and which ones I can greenify?
Oh,and the bloatware too...
Sorry if I'm demanding but I want to bring out the best from this phone
Thank you in advance

Hi,
root without unlocking bootloader works only on lollipop, right. Not sure if u can downgrade, but when, u will use "LGUP" tool with the "H81510D.kdz" file. Maybe there exists a pre-rooted kdz to flash.
If u want to root android 6, u need a unlocked bootloader. Rooted Android 5.1.1 or unlock bootloader with rooted android 6.x.x
Ok,I successfully unlocked the bootloader but now I'm stuck with rooting and installing Twrp...
I've downloaded BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247 and TWRP-3.0.0.0-H815+ but there's a lot of metods,which one should I use?
Flash SuperSu+Twrp with stock recovery?
Install Twrp with adb command and then flash SuperSu with Twrp?
Install both with adb command?
I also saw somewhere that I must flash some other kernel that is already rooted...
I just need root and the Xposed for now, help me guys!
Im also Confused..Where can i find rooted kernel?
I already did this Method u said...But I got Boot Loop
Then I revover my phone with Lg Bridge
We need to find this.....I also Had Android MM with V20d

In my case I wasn't able to flash recovery on the stock kernel, I had to flash boot.img unpacked from the custom kernel like SimpleGX and only then I was able to flash recovery and full kernel through it.

1. boot into twrp recovery with adb command(you need to have the twrp.img file in PC and also copy it in internal memory of your phone with SU)
2. flash systemless root with twrp
3. reboot
4. install flashify
5.flash twrp.img from your phone.
6. done
but there aren't as much benefits of rooting as any other phone. viper4android doesn't work. spirit fm doesn't work. xposed doesn't work properly.(these 3 were the main reasons for which i rooted)

I didn't know i could flash something other than .zip files with twrp.
As for viper4android i tried normal way, flashed it with twrp, flashed extreme music mod with v4a fix. None seem to work. The drivers never get installed.
Xposed i haven't tried. I was in process of getting more information about it by reading various threads. But all seem to point to problems like bootloop, fc and Bluetooth issues. Can you guide me towards the best version of xposed for v20d with way to avoid problems or with as less problems as possible?

Here is the official Xposed thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
Download xposed-v80-sdk23-arm64.zip and flash it with Twrp.
Download XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk and install it.
And just in case if you have a bootloop, download xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm64.zip.
I haven't had any problems
Oh,be careful which Xposed module you install. Here is the thread of working/not working modules

Flash Imperium Kernel or SimpleGX Kernel. I used their kernels and ROMS on my older phones, they are legend. I suggest you to flash Imperium Rom. It includes kernel and everything and it is updated regularly by its dev.

I think doesn't need to install recovery to root the phone.
Just this:
1) adb reboot bootloader
2) fastboot boot TWRP-2-8.7.0-h815.img
Wait a second and it will open, on the phone, the recovery.
Once open go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and take a swipe to start it where it says "Swipe to Start sideload".
Now on the PC write
3) adb sideload BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247.zip
( If it says after the instalation to install supersu etc just abort it)
And then, when installation is complete, press "Reboot System"
I rooted it this way, without install TWRP Recovery

Yeah - but the question has to be asked - why unlock the bootloader and root and not install TWRP? If you've got as far as unlocking the bootloader you might as well make life easier for yourself and install TWRP - that way anything you want to flash in the future can be done without being tethered to the PC, and also allows you to take proper full system image backups etc.

Of course , i agree with you. By the way, we can't root g4 on m6 without unlocked bootloader.
And finally, i decided to pass twrp on my phone, for every file i want to install from twrp, and not every time to boot from pc
You're right
p.s. the first thing i did after twrp installed, was to install g5 live wallpapers

help neededOneplus3 DECRYPTION UNSUCCESSFULL - RESET PHONE black screen, recoverymode

Hi,
Problem starting oneplus 3, let me explain.
1) purchased oneplus3, 4 months ago.
2) Rooted,updated oxygen 3.2.8 with TWRP recovery3021 and super SU 2.74-2
3) updated oxygen4.00 with twrp32128 and super SU 2.79SR2 everything was fine.
4) Received OTA update through VPN for oxygen 4.0.1 (30mb), installed but unable start instead it was always going into twrp mode.
5) i changed twrp recovery back to 3021 and install stock oxygen 3.2.8,was working fine.
6) Now i wanted to UNROOT the device and back to stock so that i can get OTA Oxygen 4 and 4.0.1.
7) i followed steps below,
a) downloaded oxygen 3.2.1 and stock recovery.img
a) fastbootloader, and connect device.
b) fastboot devices
c) fastboot fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
d) fastboot oem lock - when i used this command and accept YES, screen got black and no further instruction for ADBsideload.
8) i used to restart the device in recovery but black screen, fastboot loader working.
FASTBOOT MODE
PRODUCT NAME - ....
VARIANT - MTP UFS
BOOTLOADER VERSION -
BASEBAND VERSION -
SERIAL NUMBER - .....
SECURE BOOT - enabled
DEVICE STATE - locked
9) and if i start the device in normal it asked for screen pattern lock but my existing unlock pattern doesnt work.
10) by using all the chance for screen pattern unlock it showed DECRYPTION UNSUCCESSFULL, clicked on RESET PHONE but again screen black in recovery mode.
11) NOW if i start my device it again shows DECRYPTION UNSUCCESSFULL and asking for RESET PHONE......
What to do now.....
regards,
Zahir

Device is back to stock, this method is used by One plus asstance for unbrick hard bricked device by remote control your PC. Then device is back to completly stock. No root no custom recovery etc. You Can now use OTA for update or using adb sideload or manually flash the entire ROM from sdcard. Thank you for appreciate :good:

just wanted to highlight the things you did that caused the issue
1- flashing the stock rom through twrp, it's possible specially with the latest TWR0-11 but not advisable, you better always flash stock recovery and then sideload rom (full rom not update) and then fast boot TWRP back and reflash root... any other method always causes issues...
2- the 30mg updates do not work on a rooted device
3- unrooting without immediately sideloading rom will always cause the black screen and loop to recovery, it's not required to unroot unless you want to go back to full stock experience...
4- this the biggest problem you made, you relocked the devices bootloader, you also did it while the device has a lot of issues (some mentioned above) so the device bricked instantly, if you are planning on unlocking the device again ...NEVER NEVER relock the device again , there's no need to do that , all you need to do to go back to a full stock experience is to wipe everything in TWRP , flash stock recovery then wipe everything again from there, then sideload full rom (latest stable version) , then for good majors in the new rom recovery wipe everything agian and boot to system and from system do a factory reset. then recharge your device to 100% and re encrypt it if it's not...after that you're 100% on a full stock exerience and will receive ota and it'll work... and at that state only (without root or TWRP) you can relock the bootloader (which is gain not necessary at all, there's no benefit to it)
