I'm looking at getting the Galaxy Nexus for Spring. I currently have an Epic 4G, and after the nightmare with ROMs and development, the pure Google experience is incredibly tempting. I know the Evo LTE is coming out soon, and it arguably has better specs in addition to being newer.
I'd like to know what I need to do to transfer things that are not already backed-up by Google (e.g. calendar, contacts, etc). Obviously I can't restore a NANDROID backup, and while I have Titanium Backup, I don't know if it's worth starting from scratch or trying to restore just the apps (no data).
I did search the forums, but I didn't find anything quite relevant.
TIA,
Evans
I transferred some apps with titanium backup from my Evo and haven't had any problems so far just don't transfer any system apps like browser or gmail etc. and it should go OK. All my games and saved game data work perfectly.

Thanks. Since the Spring Nexus doesn't have an SD card, that's a slight annoyance. I guess I'll be transferring things via USB or moving a select number of Titanium Backups to Dropbox or Box to pull back down.
Ya that will work good. Honestly you probably will not miss the SD card in a few days . Its actually really nice to never have to move apps around to have enough space, everything on your phone goes on one place instead.

Oh, I'm going to love not having the SD card, now that they've increased the capacity from the Verizon one.
It's just a small PITA transferring Titanium Backups. I'll figure it out. I just didn't know if there was a magic bullet.

Sprint GNex has the same 32gb storage as the Verizon model.
pardon my fng-ness. it's been awhile since i've thought about any of this stuff, and i only read and learned enough the first time a few months back to be dangerous. and, well, annoying, i'm sure.
so, i've got 2 evo 4g's, one rooted, one stock. the one that's rooted now has a usb charge port issue - it will not charge because the port slides too far into the phone. neither phone had been updated to the latest sprint my question is, if i do a back up via nandroid or titanium, can i save that file on the pc, move it to the stock evo, flash it and have the unrooted evo now magically be a mirror image (including root status) of the one i need to take in for service?
as i write this i am now starting to realize probably not, but it's worth asking.
thanks.
n/m. if i can't charge the damn phone, i certainly can't transfer files from it. grrr....
I don't recommend using a nandroid on a different phone. You can restore your apps from titanium backup, just not system apps. There's too many differences between phones.
"We're coming from a pure power source."
A minor note.. If once evo charges, why not charge both batteries with that one to get your other up and running...
And try to get my root backup or titanium to backup the files for you.
i've actually got the two evo's and an Anker charger/backup battery, so i've always got a fresh battery. but...i'm in sales and always on the phone (or surfing between calls, thanks ADD!), so i'm always needing to swap batteries. i could keep going on like that, but prefer to have everything working properly.
I have two EVOS my wife and I, I should say and yes I have very readily swapped nandroids back and forth like nothing. Even when both systems were running diffrent OTAs but both phones were rooted. My advice is root the other phone load the broken phone nandriod on to the good phone SD card and run recovery on the good phone. Also... Back up the existing nandriod on your computer (just in case)

I'm very close to doing this, but would like to know how to transfer my apps from Vib to S3.
Vibrant ROM is Bionix V Fishman mod4 with Bali 1.8.8. I have Titanium pro; is that the best way?
Tried searching for this using "Upgrade Vibrant to SGS3", "Transfer Vibrant to SGS3", "Move Vibrant to SGS3", "Update Vibrant to SGS3".
No relavant results are returned. Maybe my verbiage is not correct.
Any suggestions? Thank you.
I came from a Vibrant too, so here is my story.
I backed up all my apps with Titanium and copied everything off my Vibe's Internal to my PC. Then I got the SGS3 and plugged it in to my PC to let the drivers install. I then copied everything that I felt was neccessary (I did some house cleaning of things I didn't really need anymore) over to my SGS3 Internal. Then I disconnected and mounted my External. From there all I did was sign into the Market, downloaded Titanium (obviously after I rooted) and restored my User Apps and Data. Took all of 20 minutes.
Thanks Woodrube; I recognize you from the multitude of helpful posts in the Vib section.
I had a notion this is the process but wanted to hear from someone who already had this experience.
You can also just back up everything with titanium but to the sd card, then when you get the S3 just put the sd card in and restore after you root

Thank you. Initally I was thinking along these lines. Have YOU actually done this?
As you can see from my current ROM, I haven't flashed for quite some time so I'm a bit rusty. Looking for advice from the more experienced folk.
Both you and Woodrube offered suggestions that to me seem spot on to what I thought was the correct process.
Love the support from this community.

I have moved from my optimus v, to the motorla triumph, to the s2, and now to the s3. From each one i would backup with titanium to the sd, and after getting a new phone and rooting it, Iwould just restore my apps+data. There's no way in hell I was starting over in all my games lol

What is the best way to move all settings, contacts, etc from a Samsung Galaxy S3 to the Note 2? Can I restore the Note 2 from an S3 backup in Kies? Also, for Google Play purchased apps, can I just re-download for free to the Note 2 or do I have to deregister them in some way from the S3?
Note that I'm using the stock AT&T ROM on both phones and want to stay that way.

The way I do it is simply the same weather it is a new phone or ROM. The best tool by far is Titanium backup on google play. It is not cheap but it is a one time buy. I have used it ever since the nexus one and it has accompanied me through all droid phone changes.
It saves settings/configurations and exports it all to a chosen folder. The latest one even creates a flashable zip for even faster restore. Just put it all on your microSD card or move the file(s) to a computer and then to the new phone.
Try it out. You wont be disappointed. Good luck

I have rooted all my phones and put custom roms, but..... Going to wait until multi view update gets here first on this one. Rooting will break the update availability. I am sure a dev will make it available eventually but that will take a bit.
Sprint supposedly is getting multi view 2 weeks after release. Hoping that is the same here.

This phone is on sale today for $120 at Amazon. At that price and the specs it seems like a really great deal until I find out the cloud support will only be around for 6 months or so. If it had microSD it would still be a no-brainer but I'm concerned what will happen when they stop supporting the phone. Will we be able to use the cloud backup function if we use our own storage such as Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.? If this is not currently a possibility is it something that is even feasible in a custom ROM?
I don't need a ton of storage for anything but apps. I'm not a big gamer, I just have many apps that I use rarely but when I do need them, it would be very inconvenient to reinstall and sign in and change settings, etc. One of the most annoying things about Android is even the apps that are movable still remain partially on my internal storage. I also have a Huawei Watch and the apps for those alone that must remain on the phone memory hog a ton. I'm currently using an Honor 5x with only 16gb onboard so this phone would still be an upgrade for that... I just wish they could have splurged on an SDcard slot and it would be on the way to my house already. I know, I know, everyone wants their crap in a "cloud" now. I actually prefer local storage, I hate to be reliant on a data connection or someone else's servers but I still like the idea of this phone. Too bad not enough other people did to keep it from flopping. I feel really bad for the Kickstarter backers that paid $300-400.
Alternatively, does anyone know of any Android apps or custom ROMs even that perform a similar function where I can backup and restore apps from either a server, or even better my own SD card, without losing settings? I know there are a lot of apps that do this with the apks, but I want one that functions more like this phone does it. I don't care if I have to do it manually instead of it being automated in the background, as long as they are restored with settings intact. It seems like something that could be done but I have zero experience in Android Development. I'm guessing they locked out the ability to do this somehow or it would be done already. I'm not a huge fan of Android but even less of iOS or anything Apple which leaves little other choices these days. For the record, I still think old school Windows Mobile was the best phone OS ever until they bastardized it into Windows Phone.

If you're willing to root the phone, there are some options for using an app like Titanium Backup to save and restore your app data in conjunction with a separate cloud service like Google Drive or Dropbox for storing your backups. Titanium Backup even has some options for integrating your cloud service of choice and uploading automatically, but again this does require rooting.
Also, keep in mind that hardware limitations of the Robin prevent it from using USB host or USB On-The-Go adapters, which is one of the first things people wonder about when there's no SD card
However, it's still a good phone for such a low price.
It was actually $118 plus I get 5% back with the Amazon card so I bought one each in Mint and Midnight. Whichever one I don't keep, I'll give to my Mom. She's on a crap Windows Phone that is starting to have hardware issues. I think it will be perfect for her, if not way more than she needs. I have 30 days to decide since Amazon is great with returns. I shop with them so much I could probably buy a new phone and return it every month but I wouldn't do that. I did the slow shipping so hopefully Prime Day will come before my 30 days are up in case there's a better deal. I got my Honor 5x for $120 last Prime Day and I think I could probably sell it used a year later for $100 after keeping it in perfect condition. I do worry about the Robin holding any value but I never actually end up selling my old phones anyway, I have quite the historical collection. The lack of warranty concerns me but I think if I have any real issues I can get my money back from Amazon since I spend most of my money there. I think they sold a lot of Robins with that deal, most of the cases sold out by the end of the day. It's still only $130 so they must have quite a large supply of them. I'd be curious to know how many phones were manufactured and how many have sold but I doubt they make that public information.
Anyway thanks for all the info. I'll be back next week when I get it to get all the rooting info. I have to roll back my Huawei watch too, it didn't look like a quick process so I've been avoiding it but I hate 2.0... so I'll just have to devote one night to nerding out on XDA. It's been awhile.
Damn it, ****, f*ck donkey punch.. I refused REFUSED to buy a phone without an SD card, but just bought the robin on sale because I figured I could just use the cloud and keep my backup images on my USB otg drive. It didn't even occur to me that it doesn't support otg.. Wtf. I haven't even opened the box yet..
No wonder this phone flopped. No SD card, so no apps to SD, or an option to switch between cloud and SD card backup. Crappy battery. No host mode.. And for (what was) $400? Damn it maaan! I've never done any development on a phone without a card. Do you just push and pull your backups between a pc? What if you, ugh, nvm.. I'm about to find out I guess..
I'm gonna be PISSED if I see one of the phones I was gonna buy but didn't because I saw this with decent specs for $118
