Why does stock run better than 4.4 CM based roms? - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says it all, I tried like 4 Cm based roms and went back to stock because the all had jitter and lag from time to time. Scrolling wasn't nearly as smooth either. Typically CM improves things so curious if anyone else noticed this and might know why.

Hmmm.... I've had quite the opposite experiences. Cm has been very buttery on my g pad. I'm running the latest cm nightly...
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk 2

Same here, CM is definately running smoother than the stock OS.

I've found that all the cm based roms run smoother than stock.
Is there any app you have different or any settings you are altering that you don't change on stock?

I also find cm11 much smoother than stock. Surprised to read the opposite, the difference is huge IMHO.
Enviado desde mi LG-E975 mediante Tapatalk

For what I use my g pad, I didn't experience any major difference between stock and cm11 (I think it's called the lazardus variety).
At least what concerns apps. For the UI, it could be that cm11 runs a bit faster, but maybe this is just perception. But cm11 just brings the features I was missing in stock.

I think it's oposite
Back when I used stock rom I often got anoyed over lag when screen rotated - espesialy when waking up.
Now I use CM M3. I still experinece a little lag when rotating the tab, but it is not as bad as stock rom - I think it is less because I don't get as anoyed over it as I used to be on stock rom.
Only lag I still find a little anoying is when I use Screen of and Lock ap to turn of the tab - odly enough it works perfecktly from the lockscreen.

[Q] Question of User experience about Miui.us Rom

Hello all.
I really like themes on MIUI.
Before I flash the MIUI rom for our galaxy nexus I would like to know the idea from the people who flashed MIUI rom before or using it now.
Does the lagging really very serious? How about the fluency comparing with AOKB or codename?
Thanks!Looking for your reply.(Sorry for my bad English)
Basically miui took the amazing great perfect rom they had, ****ted on it and called it miui v4 its slow laggy and looks hideous and the theming doesn't even work correctly due to the resolution so forget it if that's what your using it for

OK.I got it.
Give up the idea of flashing MIUI on galaxy nexus.
Thanks!
i have to disagree... i'm using Miui 2.4.6 and i dont have any lag, the rom just run smooth as i want...
And the themes... i dont use, cant give my opnion.
V 2.4.13 was the most stable so far. I had 0 issues with theming it and running at as a daily driver. I had to use lean kernal but it worked great. I take that back. Some of the themes color combinations didn't work well, but u can mix and match. The only reason I left it is because some apps would say I needed a active data connection. Ie Google maps. I restarted the app and it worked fine.
Hope this helps.

stability is fine for .... lag is pretty rough when it comes to any sort of animations. That alone made me leave it. Once that and themes get worked out it will be worth going to for sure .

JB or CM?

So here I am planning to flash CM9 this weekend, and of course JB gets released! Not that its a bad thing of course, but it just makes my decision that much harder. Does anyone have suggestions as to which I should go with and why? Please only post constructive advice with some facts behind your answer, no "JB FTW!" comments since this is a serious question.
Jelly Bean. The only thing I miss from CM9 is the integrated LED notification chooser. Light Flow isn't working correctly for me on JB.
For all the reasons here: http://www.android.com/whatsnew/ and more JB is a no brainer.
Maybe you should flash both and decide for yourself! I would go with cm cause jb is pretty stock rite now and if you want options jb will come up short vs cm..jb is very nice I ran it for a few hours but I can't handle the stock feel..
I find that most of the customizations in cm9 and aokp don't get used by me.
I have been running between aokp and cm9 for months. They are great smooth stable roms with great customizations.. If those tweaks are something you are really into then maybe stay.
Project butter is no lie.. JB is (for me) smoother in every day actions than cm9/aokp. New notification ui is great. Google Now is awesome and practical. You can still run custom kernels and over clock and have root... Just not those more in depth tweaks yet.
JB is the future... May as well go there as soon as possible.

Coming from CM9 to JB, I'd say CM9 for features, JB for speed.
There are some CM9 features that I really miss on JB. T9 dailer, lock screen weather, and lock screen shortcuts. But JB is really buttery smooth.
That being said, once the source code of JB is released next month and CM9 is updated to JB, I'll go back go CM9.
Are custom launchers working on JB?
I'm on cm9 but damn keen to try JB. Started d/l last night but stopped it at 10mb down. I'm stuck using 3g atm and a 250mb d/l will use up about a quarter of my months data.
Nova works on jb... Apex crashes for me.. But stock jb is smoother than both.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Once the JB source is released it will be in CM. I installed JB to give it a try but for the long run I am going to run CM.
I liked JB but there are still some apps that I couldn't get working most notably GTA3.

Nova has some quirks on JB. I went back to the stock JB launcher for the time being.
JB for now. The new features are amazing and it's butter smooth.

Jelly Bean. MUCH smoother, Live Wallpapers are lag free again (FINALLY), much better boot animation (CM is way too choppy, and the stock ICS one is just... no.) better camera, Google Now is freaking amazing, I could go on.
I hadn't even tried live wallpapers. Very nice. I have never been able to use them due to lag.

how's the battery life on JB? did the smooth ui have any effect on battery life?

CM 10.1 review galaxy nexus gsm

Not sure if there is a thread already out there, but I was thinking about flashing CM 10.1 nightly. I was wondering if it stable enough for a daily driver and if there is any issues anyone is experiencing.
Also, does CM 10.1 offer RenderFX ?
I'm using it right now, it is stable and I didn't notice any bugs since I flashed it last week, but I didn't like Apollo music player so I froze it from settings and got Google Play Music from the Play Store, and no RenderFX or the option to disable screen-off animation (yet) but it's not the final version so you can expect to see all the features from CM10 added to 10.1 eventually.
If you don't want to download 150+ MB every day then the app "CyanDelta" is a must have, it's free and it offers smaller downloads (around 10MB) and it's safe to use.
I'm using Franco's kernel r361 and getting the same battery life (if not better) I had on stock 4.2.1 and no SoD so far (only happened once on stock anyway)

Thanks for the quick review. Think I might wait till the final version is out or at least RenderFX ( loved that feature at night) is available.
I am finding a lot of issues with the Bluetooth staying connected or not turning off with the stock 4.2.1 ROM. Finding it very annoying.
Using CM 10.1 Nightly 2013/01/14 no issues so far with LeanKernel and InteractiveX CPU governor. Good battery life with a lot of background services (Facebook, Cerberusy, WhatsApp, and so on).
The only problem I have found is that the quiet mode doesn't work with WhatsApp: I can always hear notification sound even if it was disabled in quiet options. Plus another bug for me is that quickly panel for enable/disable 3G data is not working (leaves 3G data always enabled).
But apart from minor bugs I would suggest to flash the CM 10.1 Nightly. I've never used any Rom other than stock...

I have always been a fan of CM, use to have it on my nexus one. Now I am using the galaxy nexus and the stock rom just doesn't offer everything I want. BTW how is the battery life with the kernel that comes with the cm 10.1 nightly. I have never flashed a kernel before.
I'm using CM10.1 with the CM kernel and it's absolutely fine for my use, more than happy with it

I am using CM 10.1 HumberOS builds with his kernel and I got about 5 hours screen on time with no SOD or any bugs.

Using 10.1 for about a day now. Came from stock 4.2.1. I love 10.1... it's a great mix of lock screen options from 10.0 and all the new features of 10.1. I hate the 4.2.1 lock screen, but a recent update in 10.1 has made it capable of looking/acting very much like 4.1.2 or 10.0. No regrets here. And no issues to report.

The 3G quick panel toggle works for me.
But I have another strange bug, the keyboard only suggests custom words, if there is no custom words in my dictionary then the suggestions bar is always empty when i type a space after a word, tried clearing data of the keyboard app but still the same

SOD = screen of death
That's mean the device is still running and there are symptoms like vibration or ringing but the screen do not wake when you press the power button.

Hi
I am thinking of flashing to CM 10.1 any advice anyone would recommend. I am only on the stock version and would to tweak and play around. Any help would be more than appreciated.
Thanks:laugh:
I have been on cm10.1 since the nightlies were released, and I flash updates regularly.
Haven't had any problems, and the battery time is great. I have no problems getting through a day with normal use.

Anyone else having issues with AOKP?

I am running AOKP milestone 1, but I constantly have issues where my phone overheats, screen glitches up and has wierd colors, random reboots, and bad battery life. I don't know if it's an issue with AOKP or my phone. I tried jellybam, but for some reason, my camera does not work properly and I am stuck on phablet mode, even after switching to phone ui in paranoid settings. Everything is too small.
I am not sure what other roms to try. I am looking for one that's feature packed like AOKP and jellybam .. and very stable
Thanks.
In my opinion this is the best 4.2.2 and most feature packed rom available for the s3.

Slimkat 4.4 ROM for Nexus best KITKAT ROM?

I have been using this ROM since it first cam out and am currently on the Official 1.6 version. The only glitches I have noticed so far are graphical when you rotate the screen and every once and a while it will freeze and reboot. I use this as my main ROM and it is smooth and works very well. The "OK Google" feature works well as does the google now. I don't think I have found anything that does not work yet. Just thought I would put this out there because I have tried all the others including the unoficial CM11 and as far as stability and battery life this one is the best I have found. Here is the link to their thread.

CM 10.11 unofficial is better in my opinion, I have used both slimkat an cm10.11, no rotation glitches with latest cm10.11 build.

cant say anything about CM11, havent tried it, but there are no glitches in slimkat in the latest build.
cheers
The graphic glitches are fixed in all cm11 based roms. But please: there is no best ROM and there will never be. Just try it when you are curious..

I know that all ROMs are different and that each one is better in a different way. All I meant was which kit kat ROM is GBE best so far due to they are all still in their alpha builds and some are pretty glitchy still. Slimkat is a really nice ROM with only the rotation glitch left And I have flashed the latest CM11 as of last night and so far no rotation image glitches, no reboots and runs very quick and smooth.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The glitches are fixed on the surface, but below it's not a true fix - the drivers for gpu are not updated. It's more like a band aid, you can see when webview slows down in the gnex.
