[Q] Do You Guys Screen Lock Your Phones? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I don't lock my phone cause I just don't like it. I don't use it for work, I don't have sensitive data. Everything is on a cloud except my music which I need to backup on my laptop. Plus if it's ever stolen, can't someone just flash it and use it as an MP3 player or something? Is there a way to render it useless if it's ever stolen?

I don't care about my info. I don't really have anything to protect. So I guess there really is not point in locking my screen then. Just makes it harder for someone to return my phone to me if it was ever lost.

I found a Droid X when it was brand new, owner called and I returned it. Found a current gen (at the time) iPhone, called the owner and returned it. I don't even think I got a thank you. Found another iPhone 4 at Six Flags, but it was locked, so I turned it into guest services. Was waiting for my friend to get his pass and I saw a girl digging in the trash cans, I asked her if she lost a phone and I told her where to pick it up. She was confused as hell. I found an old ass nokia phone and the guy tried to give me a $20 (for an old ass Nokia!) and I tried to decline it, but he wasn't having it, so I took it. Turned out it was 2 $20 bills. I lost my GS3 at Starbucks and they held it for me.
I have no use for somebody elses phone. :cyclops:
EDIT: Not one of them were that thankful except the old ass Nokia phone guy (go figure). That phone was like 10 years old at the time. I don't think that they understood that NOBODY returns found phones.

GOTYA is the best app it takes pictures of whoever tried to unlcock your phone and sends the picture along with the location to your email device. You can turn it off and on and the screen lock dissappears when off, so in home you can have it off and then when you go out turn it on and your set.

IMO, "Cerberus" is the best app out there! This app will survive even if some1 performs factory reset. It tracks the phone on real time. It can take videos, pics on demand + tons of more options....

I lost my GNEX!! Advice to all users, install GPS tracking apps!

So. I was in a hookah bar in Texas. I'm almost sure I put my GNEX in my pocket right before I left! Must have slipped while I thought I was sliding it in my jacket's pocket!
This is not a thread to complain or for you to feel sorry for me. My previous phone was a Motorola Atrix 4G, which can be GPS-tracked and remotely-wiped through the MotoBlur website. I must have been too excited with the GNEX that I did not find the time to check if I had the same options in case of emergencies. It seems Google Nexus phones does not have a similar feature by default. I went back home and tried tracking the NEX but no go. I did not have any apps for this functionality pre-installed. **pulls hair**. There's an app called "Plan B" which can be installed remotely using your account in the Android market website to enable GPS locating. Sadly, It did not work for me. Maybe it's not updated to support ICS yet.
Anyway, I'm just saying make sure to install a reliable GPS tracking app and test it in case you misplace your GNEX phones. (maybe even recommend us one?)
I used my brother's iPhone 4S later that night and I almost laughed despite how sad I was for my loss. The iphone feels like a little toy after getting used to the GNEX. I felt the same when I went back to my Atrix too, which has an even larger screen than the iphone 4s. I concluded, there's no going back.. I ordered another GNEX today!
Good luck.

Yes, I did change my Google account password right after I failed to track the device. I needed the password to be unchanged until I (quickly) try to locate the device using the Plan B app.
A reminder to people who lose their phones..
If you somehow fail to locate your lost device and feel or knew it might be in someone else's hands:
-Change your Gmail/Google password.
-Login to Google Checkout and remove all credit cards added to your account.
-Inform your phone provider/carrier to disable your SIM. Excessive usage of data can show up on your bill if you have limited plans.
Also, If you have Google Maps Latitude service enabled, It's possible with some luck to locate the phone accurately by logging in to the Google Latitude website and look for yourself.

No you don't.. I've used Plan B without Lookout before.
This is the first and only 'find my phone' app that you download AFTER you've already lost your phone. Having Lookout on your phone is the best way to protect your phone and find it fast, but use Plan B if you have already lost your phone and didn't have Lookout installed.

I don't know about Android Lost, haven't tried it but I believe Phone Locator Pro has to be the best thing out there. It has every option imaginable including the ability to continuosly send what ever message you want to your phone for the thief to read, but he still can't unlock it. Also takes a silent snap shot from the front camera of your device on any failed unlock attempts and sends it immediately to your email.

I watch over my phone like a hawk, but it never hurts to have a backup plan.
I also installed AndroidLost. It can be hidden without rooting and you have to administer it from the website.
Sorry you lost your phone, that really sucks
I should probably heed your advice and install one of these GPS programs but I have concerns.
1. Surely they drain your battery quite a lot?
2. Wouldn't you have to leave GPS on all the time?
3. I'm not sure I'd trust some random company with all my data..
4. Would it actually help you find it? I mean if you lose your phone someone's going to take it aren't they?
Thoughts?

I'll answer first cerberus.
1. Battery isn't affected at all, it will track your phone when you'll log in on a pc. So it's not tracking 100% of the time.
2. You can turn it off, when you'll go on the website you can turn it on. So you can loose your phone, turn it on and find it back. So even if the thief turn gps and data off, you can reenable them from the website.
3. I trust them
4. Yeah it will help, you'll see his position on Google map and every time he try to unlock it,. It. Take a picture with front camera. It will be easy to recognize the thief.
The app doesn't appear on the phone and it can't be installed and deleted without your cerberus username and password.

1. Not necessarily, but they need to run in the background, yeah.
2. The app would be given permission to turn on GPS if it's off.
3. There are some apps which need a lot of permission to work properly (like Light Flow), that's why users should look for apps by recognized developers if they decide to install apps like that, not just random one from the market.
4. Yes it can. I once lost my Atrix phone and found it in my friend's car under the seat after GPS-tracking it in the Motorola website. So, It's not ONLY for cases of theft although it can help with that.
If I had a GPS tracking app in my lost GNEX, I'd be able to tell it was still in the hookah bar where I believe I lost it and confront them there about it, but I had no proof. I'd rather lose the money than accuse the employees there without an evidence.

not best than cerberus.but who took the phones,if has a little conoscence about android,in a minute can take down also cerberus or other app with a factory reset and flashin via fastboot.
i purchased the license of cerberus and always have the 3 options enabled in gps settings to have cerberus fully working, but Despite this, however, do not feel comfortable and I always try to hold it below the most possibile.i'msorry for the theft, not one but 2,the worst scenario, I hope you rediscover them.
someone stoled me a tablet (gtab p1000,the first tablet from sammy)and the police did nothing to help.I'll never ever call them if it were to happen again.
wouldn't turning off the phones prevent all these *security measures*?
Thanks for all your replies peeps .. I was just a bit too slack with security, I used Lookout for a while, but it was playing up so I binned it . when the devices went missing I think we discovered them within 30-40 mins and pushed AndroidLost to both devices, but it took ages to register, then sent nothing back, just wish I had replaced Lookout, and above all that I had simply moved them from the Boardroom to the Office I was working in, then this would not have happened - a little good news - the police are reviewing some CCTV footage from the Foyer, there is no way the scumbag could have avoided the main entrance, so it might lead to something (everything crossed) :-\

What is [gutted] is that a new rom or something?
I am on stock JB rom and its rooted now when i install avast anti theft feature then it gives me two type of root installation.
1. Direct Write Method - Will directly try to write to the system partition. DOES NOT WORK ON NAND PROTECTED DEVICES.
2. Recovery Image Method - Will generate an UPDATE.ZIP file. Only needed for NAND protected devices REQUIRES CUSTOM RECOVERY IMAGE.
Now anyone explain me what is mean by both type of installation and which one is best ?

try first one......if your device is nand protected you will get directly an error message.

[Q] Misplaced Note 2

As the title above says, I've misplaced my phone. Been looking for a couple days now and can't find it. I'm almost positive the phone is in the house, as I lost it the next morning. Unless a thief came in and took it...which couldn't be all that unlikely considering it's the best phone on the market
Anyways, it was off when I lost it. Unfortunately I uninstalled mylookout security because I never had a chance to use it. So, I went onto google play.com through the pc, and clicked "install to note 2." Problem is that it cannot install until the phone is on. My thought process is that if there is some way to turn on my phone through sprint or some other means, I can click scream on the mylookout website to retreive the phone. It's kind of nerve wrecking searching the entire house and not finding it, so I hope this is a legitiment question that is actually possible to get it back asap. Thanks
Oops
Lol I just realized a vital flaw in my wonderful plan. I have to have my phone present to log onto my account so that I can make it scream. Back to the drawing boards

Thought about plan b and installed it on my old phone, but I don't quite understand the concept of the whole thing. If the point is to find your missing phone, why send a pointless email to yourself letting you know where your device is that installed plan b. For instance, if I go to starbucks and download plan b, it'll start sending me emails that I'm at starbacks, obviously. That doesn't solve where the missing device is though. I think I'm missing something though

Found mine a while back lodged between my car seat and middle console, also found a brand new pack smokes. The coins I left for a rainy day lol
This actually happened to me a few days ago, luckily my phone was still on. I had an idea it was in the house somewhere but wasn't positive (went out the night before and just remember having it when i got back). I tried installing a few phone locator apps but none of them could turn GPS on. I finally found and remotely installed Android Lost.
You can go to the Android Lost website and login with your Google account and control the phone from there. My phone was on silent but i was able to send an alarm locator to my phone and heard the ring going off in another room and voila!
Hope this helps people in the future.
The best phone locator I've used is Avast Mobile Security. Allows you to issue location commands via Web or via SMS. Also has a bunch of other GPS location and anti theft features you can play with. Best of all, it's free.

Jeez, I'm not to sure this device is all that great..I'm using a Note 3 phone and this thing is a piece of crap compared to it lol. The screen not being responsive to touches sometimes are really getting annoying. Also I'm thinking AT&T may never update this thing. Seems like they always care about the initial release then it's history.

Lots of threads on this. Yes, the screen is unresponsive. It's a true bummer. I have hope that we'll see 4.2.2, hopefully in the next month or two. When it's released, I hope it has the screen responsiveness fixes and S-Pen offset fixes in the latest wifi version OTAs. I agree with you, I'm losing some patience with this device. As a whole, I love it. I need the pen, like the screen, like that I can use PAYG data, good specs, and the form factor is perfect. Don't like that it's not updated, the screen freezes, no unlocked bootloader, no custom ROMs, and not-so-great battery life.

Awesome!....Now I could resist the urge of calling/texting back the person I just hanged up on just 2 seconds ago.
No really this is great...THX!

Nice , I find the screen useful but others may not.
I'd much prefer eliminating some of those shadows and making the caller ID picture more prominent.

I did not like that screen either, never had any use for it and when it pops
up it looks and acts like some kind of hesitation or lag in the phone before
it finally goes back to previous screen after any incoming or outgoing calls.
This is a great mod!
Good luck!
What firmware is it based off of? MI7

Backup should be created in /sdcard/vrthemeundo folder. If you don't have it just replace /system/app/SecPhone.apk with one from the ROM you are using.
OP...long shot question....do you know of any way to flash this via MOP? I am KNOX 0x0 running Wicked, but not able to flash vrthemes, or at least not found a way.

Don't know what MOP is but if you can push apps to /system/app then you can replace classes.dex in SecPhone.apk with the one from this zip and push it back. That's what flashing do.

I tested it. it does not work with Kitkat. It did not cause me any problems, it just does not work.
Could the developer please update this mod to work with Kitkat?

Why in the world are you still Knox 0x0?? Who gives a crap about Samsungs Knox stuff. Trip your counter. If you mess it up, flash another boot loader from like the s4 or note 2, no one will ever know. Just say it won't turn on. Bam, new phone. Keeping your counter 0x0 is like having a model GF and never sleeping with her.
Your missing so many benefits of kernels and themes.

Reason I didn't want to trip it was for resale value. I've already sold the phone and moved on. Thanks though.

That cracked me up man, that's a perfect analogy because you're exactly right. Whenever people ask me what rooting is, I always say it's basically like giving a rape victim the ability to at least put a condom on their attacker before it happens. You're still gonna get screwed regardless, but at least you can have some control over how it happens! LOL! I definitely know what ya mean as far as Knox goes because I actually popped mine in the parking lot 5 mins after I walked out of the store with it lol.

To each his own and it's obviously up to you how you decide to do things, but what you're doing is literally what they expected you to do. By making people worry about the resale value possibly going down because it has been rooted or more specifically Knox has been tripped, it allows them to stay in control and basically force whatever they want down your throat. Technically there's no such thing as "resale value" with these phones anymore (when it comes to T-mobile at least), because now you're paying for the entire phone over a two year period so by the time you finish paying it off and then try to sell it, you'll never get anywhere near what you paid for it to begin with. It's actually even worse if you go through Jump though because not only are you paying them a down payment for the device, you're also turning it back in to them so you're letting THEM resell it for all the profit.. on top of that you're also paying them another down payment for the next device and the "giant wheel of dongs for your butt" cycle continues. The only way to even kind of "get ahead" is to either buy your phone outright somewhere at a discount or by actually keeping your device for the entire two years to pay it off, because then whatever you're able to sell it for at that point will at least recoupe some of the money you spent on it (and 99% of people buying it outright could care less whether Knox is tripped or not, because Jump has nothing to do with them anyway). So in my opinion "Jump" is nothing but a suckers bet designed for people who have to have the latest and greatest or simply can't wait until their phone is paid off before getting something else. So if you think about it worrying about the resale value is a total waste of time unless you're into suckers bets, and unfortunately it looks like that might be the case considering you said you already moved on. My biggest question would be what could you have "moved on" to that's anywhere near as powerful and awesome as this one?! But that's where to each their own comes in I guess

Ok , lets not get hostile. We wirk hard on these roms. And as its hard to please everyone, we try. There are other roms. And there are other phones. Please try to remember. Thus is as is free of charge. As updates come it's on the free time of the OP.
