1 road : 2 destinations - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that its irritating for the pros out here to see a question regarding a BEST ROM. But I am not asking such a question.
I would like the most battery friendly rom for my n7100 runnning stock 4.3 now. The 4.3 has ruined my battery life and I am looking for a way out. I would love to get the single handed operation in all windows from note 3 also.
So once more these two are what I am hunting for:
BEST BATTERY BACKUP
[*]SINGLE HANDED OPERATION IN ALL WINDOWS (NOTE 3 FEATURE)
Hope I am specific here. Could you please suggest me the ideal ROM solution for my situation..

I never could understand people claiming that a certain ROM is better concerning battery than the other. OK, ie. if you have Note 3 apps there might be some SLIGHT difference, but this is all nothing compared to the REAL drain caused by the screen and DATA. It also depends what software you use - you could have best battery friendyl ROM but if you install stuff that wakes the phone and consumes the battery - it won't matter. Also depends how you use your phone i.e. if you play 3D games ofcourse your battery will last shorter tme than if you just make phonecalls. When you use "light" ROMs, with much bloatware removed - battery will be a little bit better but you will lose functionality. But all of this is sooooo little that it hardly matters.
On 4.3, as on 4.1.2 - my battery lasts like 16 hours and then is down to 50%, and then I'm in panic to charge. But I just went abroad and turned off my data because of the roaming costs. And guess what? I had my phone on for 2 days, 1 hour screen on time and the battery was at 60%.
So no ROM will save you if you have A) data on B) screen on. You're welcome to do some tests. But try without ANY installed applications or with SAME apps installed, keeping screen on time same. And you'll see it makes no difference at all or minimal difference at best.

[Q] Several Questions About This Phone...To Keep, Exchange, or Return...Please Help

Greetings,
I bought the GNex from Expansys USA the day it came out and I have had the phone for about 5 days now. There are several things that are making me questions whether or not to keep it, get an exchange, or return altogether. Please advise:
1. The main thing I am concerned with is the battery performance. I am a Noob, so I am not sure how to run all those fancy battery tests, but I can say that when I take the phone off the charger in the morning there is only about 30-40% left by the afternoon, and that is with moderate browsing, music, and a few calls and texts. I installed the Advanced Task Killer to try and save battery life. I am coming from an iPhone 4 (I was locked into it with a contract, bad purchase I know) and it seems that the battery life is way better on the iPhone. Is there a way to determine if my GNex battery or device has a genuine problem before I return this one and potentially get a worse one? Also, I read somewhere that with these batteries they get better over time, is that true?
2. Since I got a GNex from the very first batch sent to the USA, I am wondering if the newly resumed/shipped batches will have the volume fix installed? If so, is it worth me sending back the one I have now for a newly flashed one with the update? How can anyone tell if their device is updated anyway? I have Android Version 4.0.1, but isn't that what everyone has now?
3. The speaker volume is not that impressive, and I tried installing those volume booster apps to no avail. Is the speaker just not that powerful on this device?
Feel free to insult and/or flame me on my previous iPhone usage and also my lack of technical knowledge. I love the GNex because of it's amazing features on paper and all the available bandwidths I can choose from as I travel abroad frequently and this is one of the only penta-band phones I could find other than a few Nokias. But they don't run Andriod!

Android has "worse" battery life than iOS mostly because it has true multi-tasking and constant connectivity (unless in airplane mode). They generally do improve slightly, but anything 8 - 12 hrs. is pretty average, with "average" usage.

You will get an OTA (over-the-air update) sometime over the next 6 days. Most likely any replacement one you received you would still have to wait for the OTA anyways.

No, it is fairly underwhelming (Nexii always have been actually)
Thank for the quick reply s.m.knipe! Like I said I am new to this type of phone OS, so I appreciate the answers. I forgot to add another question before:
When I make a call, and I tap the icon for speaker phone, and then immediately try and tap the icon for the keypad numbers, there is a delay and the keypad numbers do not appear immediately. I guess I am saying there is a lag of sorts between pressing the speaker icon and the keypad icon to appear. However, this only seems to happen when the phone is taking a while to connect the call. When I tried doing the same thing in a better service area the icons switched back and forth seamlessly.
I really don't notice any defects on the phone at all in terms of build quality as opposed to others' here on this forum that have screen issues and cameras not being centered so that is why I am reluctant to send this one back for replacement if there is really no problem with the battery or speaker. Unfortunately I have no one to compare devices with as this phone is rare in the US. Anyway, I guess I'll be keeping this bad boy and use it as best I can!
Regards
Ok so I just retried making a call in this better reception area, and I still have the lag between the speaker icon and the keypad icon. Must be something else besides the reception?

1.) Battery is what it is. You might want to wait for undervolted or underclocked kernels or more battery concious roms to come out. There is one (Android Revolution HD) which the first post claims to have better battery life than the stock rom. Second, as pointed out by many members, task killers do not help the battery at all. (Cannot confirm this myself, speculation from different posts) If you wanted, you could post some screenshots about your battery life and screen time and see how it compares to other members with Galaxy Nexus'. Note: The iPhone 4 has lower battery consumption because its clocked significantly less than the Galaxy Nexus (Single core 800mhz i think) and the OS itself is heavily optimized for the phone. Plus, I would assume that the iPhone has less processes running in the background compared to the G-Nexus (could be wrong though)
2.) The volume fix is being rolled out via a software update, so it should automatically be sent to your phone whether its the first batch or the hundredth.
3.) For the speaker volume, you might try changing some settings in the equalizer? Not too sure about this, but many people have reported that the speakers are reasonable in terms of performance and if you seriously feel as though the performance of the speaker is that bad, you could try exchanging it, but I doubt any good would come out of it

Since it's a new phone try charging the battery fully and letting it discharge completely. After 3 to 5 times you should see improvement in your battery life. There is a thread on this that gives more info. Also a task killer is a bad idea and the thread covers this topic too.
I have a Nexus S and it's lasts me over 24 hours on a full charge with 3G and WIFI turned on.

The galaxy nexus also has a much larger screen than the iPhone which I think also plays a part in battery consumption
Thanks for the replies! Any link for the thread you mentioned? I tried a search and couldn't locate it...
the screen is, without a doubt, the most power hungry component in the phone.
Typically the battery display says 60% of the battery is being spent on the screen. Is this in line with other GNex users?
Oh, and has no one else noticed the lag I mentioned above in the on-screen display when pressing the speaker icon and then the keypad icon and then the long wait for the keypad coming up when making a call?
nope

Recommend A Rom? Need To Save Battery

Hi,
I just got my HTC One X and I love it. The only downside to it so far is after leaving it on charge overnight im lucky if I get 5-6hrs out of it.
Im on the default OS and ive only installed some apps but im pretty much in the dark where to start.
Can anyone recommend the best rom to use or even just good apps or ways to make my battery life extend?
Thanks and again sorry if this is a noob question.
Have you updated your device with all the official updates? Have you disabled fast-boot, auto-brightness, satellite-GPS and all other wireless options that you don't need and opted for a 30-40% luminance rating (screen remains legible) in Settings? The operating time you get, as stated of 5-6 hrs seems pretty low. I get at least double that with intensive usage, and I mean it, THD Games! Keep in mind however that the screen of HTC ONE X, REALLY, IS the most power-demanding component of our smartphone and there isn't much that can be done about it.
As to your question, Villain rom is considered by many to be battery-friendly although pretty basic. In addition and if you have a rooted/unlocked device (I still haven't rooted mine because I'm perfectly satisfied with it for now), you can also give a try to the SetCore app that can be found i the Apps section of the HOX forum and as its name implied it allows you to control and deactivate cores at will. Also try out the well-known SetCPU app to underclock the processor and get more life from it.
Although, if you've purchased your phone recently, you may simply have to charge some more to condition the battery and then it will get to normal levels, of ~12-15hrs of serious usage.
first of all you do not need a rom that is based on battery life..all roms are the same with just few different modifications to it. choose a rom that YOU like and not based on what other people tell you. Then you can do a few things to get better battery life. as the poster above me stated you can do what he mentioned..but i still with autosync on, GPS on and autobrightness i can manage to get over 3hrs screen on time and over a day and a half battery life. Go into settings and sound and untick touch keypad sounds and lockscreen sound and dialpad sounds...come out and reboot the phone..you might think why but trust me that causes drainage to the battery and keeps the phone wake when the screen is off. second if you use twitter and facebook i would suggest to use them only when you log in..do not have it on in the background. if you still need more help PM if you like
but search for Touch Xtreme rom by Smarberg...that is a good rom based on battery more than anything else.

Im sure all the official updates are done. I use wifi in house and 3g when outdoors. Ive got bluetooth and gps disabled and as of now my screen is off automatic. Ill keep charging like you say to condition the battery but can you overcharge it?
I'm on stock and my battery seems to be OK.
The multitasking on another hand is shockingly bad.
Please someone give me aokp or cm9

I fixed multitasking with an init.d script that lowers the low memory killer values. All the apps stay in memory now without closing... like they are supposed to.
Some say HTC set the values so high to save battery, but that is crap. No power is used when the app is held in memory, infact less is used as the apps aren't constantly being opened closed and reloaded. I think they just messed up.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
Recently i installed ICJ. Since my Battery started decreasing quiet fast, i remembered a guide from the good old Desire days. It was a really good, indepth view on how to determin
what burns your Battery and how to set up your phone perfectly.
In the last view days i tried applying some of these tips and found them more or less usefull.
Since HOX is a Tegra device some things are handled differently. So i thought it might be time to update this a bit and let you participate in my hunt for the best battery performance.
First of: I couldn't find the original guide. So no link here (sorry). I will correct this if i find the right thread. This is all my own work! I don't use any part of another post.
By now this is nowhere near complete, but i'm constantly adding. If you wan't to contribute, PM me and i will consider adding your content (with credit ofc).
Since a lot of testing and time intensive tasks are included here, it may take some time to come to some "final" results. Please bare with me because my phone is my daily driver to.
Introduction
To final start of, i think i should determin the goal of this guide. I hope that this will grow to be a reference for general Powersaving on HOX and finding what is wrong (or could
be improved) with your phone. To be clear:
This is not done in 10 minutes! You need time to test different things. So you won't be able to read a short post, change three settings, deinstall an app and double your Batterylife! Period! This is a approach of finetuning and getting the most
out of your phone. I don't want 24h Battery life with a laggy non useable phone. which leads to:
Setting your goals
It is crucial to determin what you expect from your phone. Remember: this is a quadcore phone with high-end-graphics. You won't be playing Shadowgun and get 10h of "Playtime"
My personal goals are as following
I plug of charger at 05:10 and come back home around 19:00. I would like to have 15% left when coming home (already done with ARHD)
Usage per day:
3h Music
4h forum reading
some browsing and reading webpages
4-5 phonecalls
a bit of texting (SMS/What'sApp)
a bit of playing with settings and homescreen settings
nearly no gaming and if so then no tegra games
a bit of lag is no problem, but i don't want to wait for my phone to load anything
flawless music playback while screen off
Video playback up to 1080p
no Radio issues (to low voltages can make radio instable at times...)
So all in all no great things, but i'm using my phone a lot and have high screen on times. But i'm not pushing the tegra chip to it's limits (not nearly ) I think my goal is
realistic. Remember that your goal should be doable. Just think of what you expect, and you will see relativly fast what can be done and what can't. So what are we working wwith?
My Setup
Just to give you some insight, and to make values comparable, i give you all the relevant information about my setup. You might skip this paragraph if you're just after the tools
and techniques.
My Phone
HTC One X (Obviously)
Black one
Vodaphone Germany Branded
not on JB hBoot
Unlocked
TWRP
No obvious Hardware faults
I got mine relatively early and have one of the first badges...
My Software
atm (16.10.12) IceColdJelly 3.0
Android 4.1.2
Nova Launcher (No theme)
BB10 Lockscreen Mod
NCX Kernel (comes with ICJ)
Apps (most recent used, Basic Setup. The Core i use. Others come and go ):
Airdroid
DB Navigator
ES Explorer
Noom
S-Finanzstatus
Tapatalk
Titanium Backup
YouTube
Gapps 20120726
Rest is stock and preinstalled
Other things relevant
I Use HTC standard charger with original HTC USB-Cable
most of the time i don't use a case, nut now and then i have a HTC Flipcase installed
No other accesoirs (No Bluetooth things, no BlingBling or dock or anything like this!)
...
General idea
The idea is, to determin how much current is drawn on a fresh install without apps and only google account entered. After that i want to determin what apps/accounts/settings draw
how much power. I will start from my current setup (see above) and not with a clean install. Reason for that is, that i want to give you a guideline to follow. I think most of
you have your phone setup ready and need more batterytime now.
Atm i'm not on Sense and until there is no universal JB Sense for all CID's i won't go back. So right now, you Sense user might be able to follow parts of this guide but settings
may vary. So you might have to get your head around that for yourself.
Preparation
No, finaly, we dive into geting our hands dirty.
You will need some tools and apps to measure different things. I highly recommend using the apps i use, because they are on the market for a long time, they don't draw aditional
power while in background and i use them for nearly 4 years now without problems. Also no adds, which is great because adds are one of the things that rape your battery like mad!
Things you'll need
A wallcharger (USB on a PC will work, but increases the time you need for this process alot)
Apps
BetterBatteryStats (free Version on XDA. Link will be added later)
CPU Spy
Current Widget
What the apps are for
BetterBatteryStats gives you an overview of what is using your Battery/CPU. Not as clearly labeld as the System option, but much more in depth and highly usefull to
determin which part of certain apps draw your power. Also you can see if your phone goes to deepsleep.
CPU Spy lists all CPU Frequency steps and how long they have been used. Again, seeing if your devices goes to deepsleep and if an app keeps using the CPU more
then it should be.
Current Widget is probably the most usefull app to date. It shows how much current is drawn from your Battery and writes it into a log. So you can directly see
if a change affected your Batterytime. And you don't have to have your screen on to measure (great plus here )
Reseting battery stats
To start of clean i highly recommend wiping your battery stats. Do do this, fully charge your phone (100% and then wait till charging light goes green, but minimum 30 min).
plug of charger and shutdown your phone. Replug charger and again wait till charging light goes green. Plug of charger and reboot phone. Now your Battery history should
be clear and we're good to go.
The rest follows as i proceed. I'm currently in the process of investigating and testing on my phone. If you think this guide might help you or others, give a thanks.
If something like this is already done stop me now, before i spend 100h writing this Suggestions or tips for improvement are welcome and highly appreciated. If i made a mistake or have given wrong information, tell me and i'll correct asap.
Please bare with my english and my spelling since i'm from germany and english is not my primary language.
Other than that, bye for now. Enjoy reading.
Thanks to all XDA-Members, Devs and Content creators. I've had 4 awesome years in this forum till now and enjoy giving back a bit to the community.

I'm going to keep my eye on this thread for any unexpected results – I get the feeling it's not going to be this or that etc. I might start using JuiceDefender again, quite an innovative app. Either that or just switch to 2g periodically.

It's not about finding the one app that eats up all our batterylife. It's more of a guideline to determin which specific apps and habbits burn your battery.
For me Juice Defender always used more battery running in background than it saved, but it's up to you to test it, and give me some feedback. Surprise me and i'll add it to the guide

Sorry I missed that point – it's to discover your own personal usuage habits that tie in with (excessive) battery drain. If you want me to run it seperately as like, a comparison then yeah of course. I will reset my battery stats and use JuiceDefender. For how long though?

I think 1 hour of the same activity should be enough to determin a percentage of gain or loss in batterylife.
Well, I have recently installed a new ROM (ViperX) and installed Google Now which has battery drain issues. In the hour tested I've received 10 emails, four texts (sent three) two facebook notifications, downloaded a 4mb app and listened to approximately 16 mins worth of music. I suppose that counts as moderate to high usage. With Juice Defender I am on 89% I was loosing much more than 10% per hour before now.
Hopefully this helps?
Yeah, I have a drainage of 547mA after fresh reboot which is crazy... Google location service is one of the suspects. I'm investigating in that now, which would respond to you saying Google now is draining. I dropped 10% in 3h of screen off which would mean 30h of standby. Sounds somewhat low to me.
I'm in the testing today, and tomorrow I will write part two. Let's see what's to find there...
One thing. What settings did you use with juice defender?

Good luck with this man. I was thinking of doing something like this once Faux's kernel 12 comes out of beta, but I don't think I need to anymore
ATM I'm struggling to get consistend results. I have hours where my battery is sucked with over 600 mA idle. And then everything is fine with around 190 mA. All without changes in the last days. Really strange...

190mA is really high for idle
I just installed Current Widget, it doesn't seem to record idle screen-off usage. Battery Monitor Widget is waaay better for recording mAh used. Even works with screen off.

[Q] why so little support for the LG G3 but the G S5 has so much?

I am curious as to why there is very little dev's supporting the lg g3. The samsung on the other hand is being supported alot almost make me think i made a mistake getting the lg g3 but i do really like the phone. I guess i was spoiled before the lg because i had all htc phones and there was an unbelievable amount of support for the evos. so what do you guys think are we at the height of our support or will there be more devs picking this phone up?

Yes, more people bought it, so there are more devs.
What exactly you want developed for G3?
Kernels? Nah, you can't jump higher than lg did. It's already optimised. You can, of course, add some GCC flags, change toolchain, etc etc etc... For a marginal improvement, at best. Well, you can add undervolting, some modules (ntfs, gamepads, etc), advanced sound control... What else?..
Roms? Well, developing "only for G3!" roms isn't the best idea. Besides, some popular AOSP roms are already ported to g3, ones that haven't been ported don't even have stable 5.0 builds yet. Modding stock rom is almost impossible right now, apktool doesn't fully support neither 5.0, neither lg's special apk's (two apk's with id of 127 sharing resources? LG-way, lol.), so good custom roms aren't even possible yet.
And no, we won't get more support. If you want tons of support - buy Samsung.
I didnt get that too comming from nexus 5 i was expection great dev support for G3 as i consider it the best smartphone specially compare to Lagsung devices...but most of android users see only benchmarks so they go and buy that plastic piece of awfulness....but G3 has a great support..its better to have little and good rather than have 30 same kernels like it was on N5 community...the only thing i can't get is why at least CM isn't official supported!!

i agree with both of the posts here and to really answer the first question, there is nothing that i specifically want developed i just was kinda confused as to why the forums are not filled with roms and kernals but you made a good point about saying quality over quantity.. I do really enjoy this phone and consider it the top of the line right now but we will see......
Honestly we have a fair amount of roms at this stage and it will only get better and better but as far as kernels goes I'd wish to see some more with overclocking/undervolting/profiles features in them ..

Ive had the phone for a month or so now and while the design specs etc are top notch
The performance is not
I find it to be slow and laggy especially the stock messaging app (i know i can use an alternative)
I have the 16gb version and it always seems to be using 88-90% ram at all times with very minimal apps in use
Cant see it being the fact i have the 2gb ram version as previous phones with 2gb ram have performed much better.
Considering getting rid for anther device
^^
Agree fully, had my g3 for just over a week. Bought it from amazon so I have a month to decide.
Phone is terrible for lag, battery usage is woeful.
Perhaps my expectations were too high.
Won't go back to Samsung. Knox has ruined that.
The Moto G Play looks fantastic but no European release.
HTC is speculated to have fantastic new models.
Think the G3 might find itself replaced in the New Year

Been offered a straight trade for HTC one M8 might take them up on it
As a person coming from Samsung S2, S3, Note 3, I can say that Lg is doing a great job with the G2/G3 stock software! Way better than Samsung! Yes you'll find fingerprint features and some other useless bells and whistles, but LG software is solid, almost lag free, and battery life is king!
During my lifetime with Samsung, I spent most of my time cheating its software with Cyanogenmod.
So, would I be sad to not have the same amount of support on S5? Definitely no! I think what we have is valuable and I haven't felt yet that I need to run away to CM11/12.

I guess my question with those who see terrible battery life, what is it exactly you expect? I always here "terrible battery life", or "laggy". But no one backs it up with examples.
So, for those that are seeing poor battery life, answer these questions:
What is "poor" in your mind? Please provide a measurement such as you expect x amount of hours.
Exactly what are you using your phone for? Are you playing games for hours, shooting and/or viewing HD videos? Listenting to music?
After x hours of usage, how much battery is left after use (and whatever you were doing)?
For those with lag, answer these questions:
How are defining lag? Where are you seeing it and how are you perceiving it?
What apps do you have installed and how many?
What is the amount of storage you have left?
I know some have stated they see lag in the UI such as when they open a drawer, or swipe between screens and such. I guess I've never noticed that before, so maybe they come from a different phone that responded better in their eyes. Things that can help are possibly reducing the animation, but a possible issue could be the screen size. This phone packs a lot more pixels in it than the S5, so I could see how rendering on a screen with a larger pixel density could cause this. However, for me, I don't really notice it, and even if it is there, it must not be a huge amount or else I'd notice it.
As for battery life, I don't know what people are expecting. I get at least a days (24 hours) worth. Now, granted I'm running Greenify which has helped me on other phones, so I'm sure that has a hand in it. However, there was a time I wasn't running Greenify at first with this phone and I remember having the phone charged at 100% when I went to bed, took it off the charger, left it on (I used it as an alarm clock plus as my on-call phone) and when I woke up 6+ hours later, it was STILL at 100%. Adding Greenify has helped to prevent apps from wake locking, but that's not the phone's fault. That's how some apps are written and that in and of itself can cause battery drain, but it's even worse if you out-right kill the app/service all the time.
I make and take phone calls (not all day, mind you), I send and receive texts (not every minute). I do play games (Game of War a lot) and that does drain the battery, but that's going to happen on any phone. I've listen to music on my phone, especially when driving to/from work and other errands. One time, I must have logged over 2 hours on Power Amp. I wanted to see how much it drained the battery, so I kept note of where the battery was at when I started listening and where it was when I stopped listening. Over a two hour total period of listening to music, the battery drained 2%. Not bad if you ask me.
I'm just curious because right now, with this phone, I'm getting better battery life than I did with my RAZR MAXX and my RAZR HD phones. This phone I could possibly go two days before charging. After about 36 hours, I'm at 40% battery, so I could probably go another 12 hours, but when I get to 40%, that's when I start charging back up again.
I'm not trying to dispute what people are saying. I'm just curious as to what people are expecting vs. what they are getting (or perceive as getting) from this phone. Again, most of the time, we get generic statements as "battery life sucks" or "it lags". Great. Please back that up with examples because otherwise, it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what great or sucky battery life is and/or what lag is.
Just to show, im currently at 60% after 21 hours of use. That's with phone calls, playing Game of War, texting, etc. I've attached the screenshot as well.
Just comparing to my Note 3, with stock FW but apex launcher.
Battery would last in excess of a day with quite heavy use, games Internet browsing etc. BT always on auto brightness.
Apps would also open instantly or as expected.
The G3 can has a battery life of less than 4hrs with little or no use. Consumes 18-19% in 7hrs overnight.
Finding myself charging the phone at every opportunity.
I know the Note 3 didn't come with qi, but the qi on the G3 is sooo picky. 1mm off and it doesn't charge.
Using stock launcher just pressing home, first the wallpaper loads followed by the icons then the widgets. No what would be called snappy.
And OMG does it get hot!!! For no reason at all. Not playing games, just emails and Web browsing.
So now I am left wondering if the phone is faulty.

I have both "issues".
"poor" is g3's screen-on time on 5.0 while browsing using 4g. 5-5:30 hours on latest firmwares isn't much. It was nearly 7 hours on 4.4.2... I always set brightness to 20% auto, lighting conditions are always same.
I use phone for browsing and listening to locally stored music via Bluetooth. No watching or shooting videos or playing games.
After 5 hours of 4g web browsing i am left with empty battery.
Lag:
I define lag as "animation stuttering". I am seeing it everywhere: Vkontakte, Google Play Store, while opening drawer, switching tasks, etc... It lags often, but not always.
I have 47 user apps installed, 0 additional system apps.
The only apps that keep background services or use alarms are: Aqua mail, LMT, SBH52 smart headset, Titanium backup.
There are 4 apps using GCM for push.
There are 6 accounts (Google, Shazam, Skype, VK, tutu.ru and one money app) at sync section.
And i have got 5.4 gb free out of 25 on intsd. Shouldn't slow down writing much.
A perfect setup, right? But it still lags on official firmware.
I would assume you aren't running anything like Greenify, etc. What it sounds like is there are a lot of wake locks going on. That's where Greenify comes in. I also turn off a lot of syncs as I don't need them. As you can see with my screenshot, 60% is where I was at after 21 hours so thus phone can definitely get good battery life. But, if you do a lot of stuff for hours, no phone can keep it's battery life for long. Also, with the quad hd screen this phone has, that is a big drain, but even then, I'm getting great battery life.
Another thing with going to 5.0, it's best to start fresh. Do a factory data reset and start from scratch. Going from 4.x to 5.0, especially with Lollipop, had a lot of changes underneath the hood. There are others getting better or the same battery life, but i also think it all depends on usage.
I dont know with other guys here.but i am very happy with the lg g3 forums

I already dumped mine at a huge loss. I would say worst phone ever, but that goes to my first Android, the Moto Backflip. Thank goodness my other phone is a M8.
Battery is kinda the only area i don't really have a problem with the phone its not the best but its not the worst
As someone has previously said i also came from a note 3 which in performance blows the G3 out of the water snappy and quick with no lag and instant app openings
Greenify shouldn't be something you should need to do to get rid of lag on a quad core 2.5ghz device with 2GB of ram
Out of the box the thing uses 88% ram considering the actual ROM itself is like 1.6gb just HOW is that possible if the entire contents of the ROM was loaded it into RAM should still only use 76%
Its a high end high spec device extremely poorly calibrated i have an old galaxy S3 that out performs it
To say im bitterly disappointed with this device is an understatement
Only thing i'm having problems with is the fact that the ram is always overload. Used titanium to remove and freeze alot of stuff but still the ram usage is about 1.3 to 1.6gb.
This is on stock rom which is very good to me with no lag and everything an launcher needs.
Battery life from the G3 is very good, on my previous phone I was affraid to leave the house if the battery wasn't filled to 100% with the G3 i left yesterday at 62% and returned from work with still 46% (off course with no heavy use) while my data is always on.
Conclusion for me after a month of use, good value for the money.

Greenify isn't for lag. It's for battery life.
Again, each to his own. I think it all depends on the perception of the user and what they expect and what they've gotten in the past from other phones.
Form me, this phone blows the RAZR MAXX and RAZR HD out of the water, which is what I came from and I get great battery life (well over 36 hours) before I have to recharge. And even then, at 40%, I probably could go another 12 hours but I choose not to.
Just last night, before I went to bed, the phone was at 100%. When I woke up 6 hours later, it went down only 2%, so I had 98% battery left. I've since used it to check email, read the news, played about 45 minutes of Game of War and did some updates via Google Play and I'm at 90%. That's after 9 hours since I last charged. I'd say those are pretty darn good stats for me.
Again, mileage may vary from user to user and what they expect. And from the responses I'm seeing, that's what I'm gathering. Some are saying the phone is great, others say it's okay, and others say it's awful coming from another phone. So, that definitely shows that it's all in the eye of the beholder.
But I appreciate what everyone has posted. It does appear that some who didn't like this phone have been able to find a phone that works great for them. I always try to state why a phone works great "for me" because that's what it is. It's not necessarily going to work great for someone else, but I also don't want to steer someone towards this phone if it doesn't meet their needs, so I try to explain why and how it works for me as I'm the user of this phone, and everyone else might use it differently.
Ciao!
I don't get why a lot of people are complaining about lag and support and s*** like that.
You are getting lag probably because:
(A) You don't know how to use your phone.
(B) You picked up the 16GB model (which only has 2GB RAM
(C) You're not rooted (seriously, who doesn't root their phones nowadays)
When I got this phone, I didn't have it rooted for a month. Everything was smooth despite having a lot of apps installed. It only became a lag machine when I installed Facebook and its Messenger app.
Yes there are lags from time to time, but do iPhones not lag? Of course they do, all phones do. I don't see all you guys' point.
A good phone doesn't need any sort of custom ROM and kernel, etc etc. Mine has always been on Stock ROM and Kernel, minimal lag. iPhone-like smoothness, I must say (but plus good multitasking. iOS multitasking is s***) In fact, when I upgraded to Android 5.0, it got even better.
I have stayed stock most of the time but I always have Greenify installed, (but battery life was still great before rooting and installing Greenify)
You people are just picky.
Not sure why people are seeing 18%+ drop in battery overnight in standby mode. Must either have a lot of synching going on or a misbehaving app or two.
Me, when I'm at home, WiFi is turned on. I have minimal syncing (apps, calendar, google+, photos).
Here is a screenshot I took this morning. When I first woke up, I was down to 98% overnight (was at 100% when I went to bed at midnight and when I woke at 6:30 am, it dropped only 2%).
At the time I took this screenshot, I had already read the news, did some updates, checked emails, and played about 30 minutes of Game of War and I was down to 94%. That seems like good battery life to me.
Of course, if you really want to improve the battery life of this phone, maybe you can go to Amazon and get this upgrade for the G3:

Battery problems?

I know, our device has really great battery life and I don't have anything to complain about that, but a friend of mine just got himself a new phone and his values make me a bit jealous and most of all: surprised and stunned.
He got himself a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (SD 625 variant, MKT variant really sucks), it has the same processor, same display and not even 700 mAh more (4100 mAh) and he got with some "dev rom" (made by Xiaomi, seems to just be the beta of that ugly MIUI 9, based on Andorid 7.0) 6h of SOT, doze seems to haven't really kicked in in that time. in their forum in the SOT thread I see people getting normally about 8-10 with up to over 12 h of SOT, most of them on stock ROM without any additions. And I'm quite irritated about that huge of a difference with not that much more battery. And he seems quite convinced that it's not on the cost of performance, you should notice that quickly on such a heavily skinned ROM.
Now my question is: how in hell is that even possible? I mean our devices seem quite comparablewith just a slight bump in battery but near-stock AOSP Android against pretty much an iOS clone. Does anyone have any idea what could cause that big of a difference? And if it's software based could that be done on our device? Because my experience and from different posts our device lasts about 5-6 h normally.
I mean I'm already lucky about my 2 days of usage with up to about 2.5 days on some weekends where I have a lot of stuff to do. But I wouldn't mind a bit of extra. But my biggest problem with that is as simple as: how? I could really use some explaination right now...
I don't have issues with device.. stock 7.1.1 with dec.patch, unlocked bootloader, with latest magisk. Also installed greenify.
Then you are one of very rare cases. My experience is about half of that.
And I also meant on stock ROM, without any modifications. So I don't know which apps you greenified, but that was not the point. I use Greenify too but more for apps that aren't supposed to run constantly in background when I only use it very seldomly.
The norm for this phone is 8+ hours SOT. Sometimes I get 10 and a few have had up to 12. Unless you're gaming 8 should be easy. 5 hours means something is wrong with your phone hardware, you have a rogue battery eating app or you're gaming. I rarely charge my phone over the weekend even when I use it a lot.
Well, neither of that is the case and I rarely see people claiming more than 6h of SOT
So the answer to your question is, it's the wrong question. The question should be, why does my battery not last very long and what apps or usage causes me to have such poor battery life? Compared to the Redmi Note 4 the Z Play is exactly where it should be.
Here's a link to the SOT thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/review/screen-time-t3643959

Here's an app to help diagnose battery condition (Accubattery): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery&hl=en
also betterbatterystats is really helpful.
I sincerely hope you get it sorted out!
Well, gsam isn't detecting any app that's off even with root so I don't think there is any. I installed that AccuBattery app, let's see what it has to say
Removed because of ****ty q&a system...
Oh, and another thing I noticed: I get very randomly reboots, and every time the battery percentage drops massively. Just had a 30% drop. And after the reboot the battery percentage seems like frozen. Now I rebooted and plugged in the cable and got 44% again... No fast charging. Do that detection seems very off
Motorola forum isn't helpful at all. Clearing cache and dalvik didn't change anything and running around for a week in secure mode (that's how random they mostly are) or even doing a factory reset without restoring apps is out of question for obvious reasons.
That's pretty weird. Did you try a factory reset and after restore your apps? There's not a lot you can do if you're not rooted, but you shouldn't need to do much anyway on stock rom.
Only other option is full RSD lite OS restore as a last resort.
I am rooted for long, that's why I use Greenify. I know it also works without but then it's a joke. As RSD lite is, it just refuses for everyone to detect anything on Windows 10.
Factory reset is out of question for the moment, it takes way too long to do it properly (with titanium and NANDroid backup first) and I won't have that much time probably for the whole of this month. Otherwise I would most likely already have went off to the next best custom ROM since Motorola just can't get their **** together and still work on 8.0 in test for 2.5 month with searching testers for another one.
I think the next thing I'll do is to try the good old battery calibration, just have to find the file storing the statistics. I know many say that won't work but that's rubbish, it worked for me already a few times
Update: no, no change. Don't know if that funky battery percentage bug on random reboots still happen since I haven't had any again yet, but they come too random and unpredictable.
And that AccuBattery just proves to be worthless. It tries to estimate the rest capacity, but then it even fails to detect original capacity by 500 mAh. The battery sucker stats are also unrealistic. It puts chrome first with 10%, while GSam with root puts it 5th at 4.6% after kernel, Spotify, Android system and fight services. Android itself even puts it 9th with screen, phone idle, cell standby, Android OS and Bluetooth in-between.
So let's see what happens first. Motorola releasing 8.0, which I will flash through the .xml.zip, this time using flashfile.xml which should force a factory reset... Or me finding the time to switch to a custom ROM
Edit: so I got another one, bit this time no crazy battery drop. But the other times I killed of the soft reboot sequence because Magisk can have some problems with that. This time I didn't
Yesterday I was finally able to do the factory reset since those darn random reboots became too annoying and Moto's support is had just the most ridiculous ideas... In the worst way.
Either way, now OTA looks better, let's see how it will turn out in the next days
