Hi, I have a Wildfire S a510a that failed to be rooted so I am starting over with the Bell RUU (Aka virgin mobile).
I am charging the phone to get it ready to flash. Will flashing the ROM delete the Superuser app that came with the root.zip?

Yes, the RUU wipes all data before flashing so you will loose all apps and data

I tried using "HTC android phone rom update utility 1.0.3.2011" and it says "This rom utility can not update your android device, please get the appropriate ROM update utility and try again."
In titanium backup I accidentally uninstalled "HTC sense" and now the desktop area is black. I can still navigate the settings menu but not phone or the apps menu. Is there a way to move the Bell Ruu to the sd card and opening it with CWMbased recovery?

Open the RUU and let it open, then close it after the first window opens.................then get into the temp folder by typing "%temp%" in "Run"(if using Windows XP) or directly in the search bar in Windows 7
search in there to find a zip file named "rom.zip"(not case sensitive), it would be something between 100-160 MB
Take that "rom.zip" and flash it via CWM
How to you extract the rom from the ruu file? I can't install it through the usb cord so I want to install it using cwm.

For some reason my last post didn't appear. Anyway, I followed your instructions but the system.img was damaged (download ruu 3 times damaged each time) so I installed everything but system.img through fastboot. Once I had everything flashed but the system, flashing a rom was simple. I installed Cyanogenmod 7.1 via CWM recovery as a recommendation from this thread: "Best rom for canadian wildfire S a510a"
and it worked. View attachment 2606773

I had quite a time rooting my Bell a510a as well, I kept getting superuser and CWM force closes and fixing permissions was not helping. Root checkers were just freezing so I decided to try some apps that needed root to check for me instead, none installed so I knew root was not properly configured. I think read thru 20 or so tutorials before I got it rooted. Is there a Bell RUU or is virgin the alternative choice?

CallBar A1 SC6820 Stock ROM Available
UPDATE
Original Stock ROM of CallBar Mobiles is available on following official link.
Millions of Thanks to Company's Sales Head Officer in my country to whom I talked on Mobile. He was kind enough to spare his precious time and guided me to download StockRom and flash it properly. Without naming him on this public portal, I would like to tell that he is Great Person.
There are 3 Stock ROMs for Models CallBar A1, CallBar A2 and CallBar Tab7 available under the Modem Driver Download Section. The Rar File includes all tools and software required for flashing.
Here is the link
SpreadTrum SC6820 CallBar A1 Rooted
Successfully rooted CallBar A1 Mobile through ResearchDownload.
Requirement - Stock Rom (pac file) and CWM Recovery Image.
While flashing original ROM through ResearchDownload Software, I simply replaced the path of Recovery.img file to CWM Recovery image file. After Flash was over. Restarted phone in CWM Recovery and applied update.zip from sd-card containing SuperUser Files.
Its done.... Rooted.
Took me almost months to get success. I kept experimenting whenever got time. At one time also bricked.... any way finally I am done.
Intex12345 Can you make a tutorial for the rooting ?

I also dont know much about rooting but after several tries i successfully rooted my SpreadTrum. (CallBar A1 Mobile). It was very difficult because I rooted another Samsung Models with much ease.
All methods for my CallBar had been unsuccessful, till I got original firmware. SO In my method, you need firmware first. If you have original firmware then write back. I would surely like to help you.
If you have CallBar Mobile then I will write the steps in details so that you can root your mobile. But as far as my knowledge is concerned all Spreadtrum phones dont root with common method.

Bro, you have a newer phone and people are still trying to root this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500162
If you find CWM Recovery image which may be working for your Model then it would be better because I tried to find CWM for your model but found none. Any way... you may try random CWM images for your mobile.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165554
From the above link you need some tools, software, images:
First of all you will need Research Download Tool so download Package Debug Tools.
Working CWM Recovery Image for your model. At the moment no specific is available so try Random CWM images.... You may try one after another image.
FDL files so download FDL file set also.
Remember, Research Download can revive even dead phone.
(Windows XP is better for using Research Download because SpreadTrum Mobile drivers don’t install in Windows 8.... You may try on both windows though. For me, it worked on XP so I had to install VMWare with XP on my Windows 8)
1. Install SpreadTrum Drivers.......
2. Run Channel Server (You will find in Debug Tools package)
3. In the setting select 115200 baud rate.
4. Run Research Download
5. Channel Server should have green light when Research Download is run. If not, change Com Port and Endian Setting in the Channel Server.
6. Open Firmware (pac file) through single gear icon.
7. Open the setting (two gears Icon). Make sure that baud rate in Research Download is also 115200
8. Replace fdl1 and fdl2 with the files available with you.... (Try different sets you have downloaded.... Hit and trial.... I would suggest you to try first without replacing these files)
9. In the Recovery row, replace the path of file to the CWM Recovery image file Downloaded by you. This is Custom Work Mode Recovery file. By changing this file, Research Download will flash CWM Recovery instead of Normal Stock Recovery. In case Custom Work Mode Recovery image is not flashed, mobile will still have normal Stock Recovery BUT without advanced features. But for Rooting you need Custom Work Mode Recovery. So try image suitable for your model. There is none specific for your model so you may try one by one after flash is over....
10. Go to the Calibration Tab.... uncheck all boxes..... if you dont, it may trouble you. Flash may fail. I was stuck for days on this step. Then I tried this setting and worked for me. One more guy has also reported to have worked this step for him. Another will report soon because he is also stuck on that.
11. Press Play Button.
12. Dont plug your mobile yet. Switch it off. Thereafter, plug in mobile in Computer USB while holding Volume - button.
13. Flash will start.
14. After the flash is complete, Reboot the Phone.
15. It’s should boot ...... Hopefully it would.
Now you have phone with firmware flashed with CWM Recovery Image installed on it.
Now comes the part of installing Super User files. Download SuperUser Zip from official web site.
16. Place Zip file containing SuperUser files on the root of sd-card.
17. Shut down Phone.
18. Switch on phone while holding vol(-) and power button. (Your model may have different combination for entering into Recovery Mode) It will reboot phone in CWM mode. Apply zip file containing SuperUser files from sdcard.
19. Reboot. It’s rooted.
I am not responsible, if you bricked your mobile in the process. I bricked my own handset once... But Research Download can revive even dead phones so mine was also brought back to life.... As long as you have firmware with you.... You make take risks.
Best of luck.... If you are stuck on any step.... Just tell me. I have tried to cover all steps... But some steps may require detailed instructions for newer people.
CWM recovery.img required
Thanks a lot to intex12345 for penning down your journey.

[guide] install at&t kitkat e980 stock flash + root + recovery - complete wipe !
FOR AT&T LG E980:
Basically, from my experience I put together this guide for anyone who wishes to flash a complete stock AT&T KitKat from .TOT file and the root and add recovery.
All the steps are what I have gathered from around the forums, SO I WILL GIVE CREDIT FOR STEPS THAT ARE OUTLINED BY OTHERS. These people helped by their postings.
FLASHING TOT FILES:
1. The BEST - I think a lot of us can agree - thread for the LG E980 flashing with STOCK firmware is this by HYELTON http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44983841&postcount=1
STOP OVER THERE AND GIVE THE MAN SOME LOVE AND THANKS !!!!
.TOT files and .Kdz files for all versions can be found at Hyelton's thread above. Also, more details for flashing .TOT vs .Kdz files there. Below is some tips from my experience.
Here is the exact TOT file I used: http://www.mediafire.com/download/djjmck2eost77e3/BIN_LGE980AT-00-V20g-ATT-US-APR-28-2014+0.tot
SOME OF MY TIPS: FROM MY EXPERIENCES
2. The only hitch is getting LGFlash Tools and hacking it. I tried the links on Hyelton’s thread but some are now too new to be hackable. For example, one must find the reg key for the new version of LGTools he links to. Megalock.dll is hit-or-miss. There are other ways for sure but I did not bother further.
3. I found that lower versions of LG Flash Tool (v 1.4.1330R) works just fine.
EDIT: The latest version of LG Flash Tools is here http://www.mediafire.com/download/6g1uyoz2zsiqq1c/LG+Phone+Flash+Stuff.rar
And it contains the DLL to be used during flashing. I STRONGLY SUGGEST USING THIS. You MUST -MUST- TURN OFF INTERNET WHEN USING FLASH TOOLS. This pack contains the full software, and dll files. I have flashed using just this package >10 times at least while testing roms
a.Connect phone and let Windows install drivers. In my case, Windows 8 default were just fine.
b.Put your phone in download mode.
c.Connect it to your computer. In case of windows 8 the windows default drivers work fine.
d.Follow Hyelton’s steps.
EDIT: See posts #32and #33 in this thread. Do not go back to download. But wait for fastboot to install. See post #33 for this. Just wait patiently, the phone will reboot to full normal mode/setup screen, then the LG tools will say pass. BE VERY PATIENT.
ROOTING AND RECOVERY:

I went back to pure stock and no custom recovery, then did the 10p update - I found that the update to 10p would not work with other than stock recovery. I then just used the settings query for OTA update, downloaded and installed - all my programs and data were intact after the update, except apps requiring root would not run correctly. I then followed your steps to root. I still have the stock recovery at this point. KitKat runs great.

So when going back to complete stock the 10p, how did you keep apps, settings if you used odin.? Just interested in your procedure since obviously OTA on stock will retain programs and settings.

Honestly, I don't know. I had been flashing lots of different ROMS and then went back the total day 1 stock. I then updated OTA to 10p a couple of months ago and rooted but did not flash a custom recovery. I then heard that 4.4.2 was available, checked via the about link and downloaded. All the apps and data stayed in place. I then rooted and have yet to flash a custom recovery. I'm sorry I can't give you more detail. But I can tell you that I seem to have better battery life, and I had to pair my phone to my car again. Good luck.

Why didn't you just flash the RUU? Would have been the easiest solution if you already downloaded it since the M9 can only install OTAs if the system is completely untoched (=not rooted) and mount as read-only.
Nevertheless if you're still looking for a method to extract files from a RUU (no matter whether it's a *.zip or an *.exe): Download latest 7-Zip, install it and right click on the RUU file > 7-Zip > Open (the second option from above) > #. It may take some time to open the RUU but then you will find what you need if you open the archive 2.zip.

Use this rom http://www.4shared-china.com/zip/cGd1iD52ce/0PMG20000IMG_A50MGP_DUG_K44_SE.html , The one given by op and almost everywhere in the internet has that problem. think that is not the final version of the rom. It fixes almost all the problems.
NOTE: Must do a factory reset just after flashing by spflasher (on first boot) before using.
I found this by searching on the internet but dont know where. credits go to the original uploader.
Happy Flashing :good:
Hi everybody.
So I recently purchased the Sprint Prepaid variant (I think it is the chl version?) of the HTC Desire 816. Great phone, but the bloatware kills the measly 8GB of internal storage. So I decided to root it and installed a Marshmallow rom but didn't catch that it was for a different variant. Everything worked great except for mobile data. So now I'm trying to flash it back to stock. I locked the bootloader which now says "RELOCKED" but it is stuck in a bootloop back to fastboot etc.
Does anyone have a copy of the HTC recovery.img for this device. I stupidly didn't back the stock one up....*kicks self HARD* Any help would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
Justin
Man, you broke the 2 most basic rules of flashing . Always verify what you are flashing is compatible with your device and always make a stock back up or 2 before flashing a custom ROM.
The good news is you're not alone in breaking them. We all probably have broken one of them in the past but just got lucky. My variant is the a5_chl Virgin Mobile (Sprint) brain and the stock ROM's are on HTC's website under downloads. I'll try to find the link I saved for my version and link it here for you. As for the stock recovery that should be linked in several places in the 816 threads. I believe one link is in the "how to root your Virgin Mobile 816 " by V_ Superuser. I'll try to link that as well.
As for the bloatware. Removing it won't gain you any more storage space as it's in a separate partition for stock apps. Better off to just root, obtain true S off with the Sunshine app and get the app Link2SD and partition your ext. SD card with enough storage space for your apps and their data. It's what I did and my space is bigger and trouble free doing it this way even though it cost a few dollars. The other method is using a WP_ mod.ko for lollipop that changes the SElinux from enforcing to permissive and installs a init.d script in the system to start at boot up for the device to allow you to add the Link2SD app and use its functions that way instead.

Thank you. I have been so far unable to locate the stock recovery image. Is it part of the package you can get from HTC that you linked to? I read a couple guides that say to use the zip files from HTC, but it looks like the ROMS from HTC are in executables. I tried to run the executable but it would just hang at the HTC screen and the progress bar on the windows program wouldn't move at all.

Here you go. This might be easier. It's FoxyDrew's tutorial for getting back to stock on the VM variant.

Yeah. It won't work unless you first extract the stock recovery img from the exe. by first running it just initially and then in your computer typing in the search section %temp% and looking for the running exe. Then you click it and look for the recovery img from within one of a few numbered and lettered folders. It's in one of them under stock rom I believe. I'll find the video tutorial link I used to get mine and also try to find the link I officially mentioned that has the stock recovery as well.

Okay. So I was able to locate what looks like the correct folder in %temp% as it was created at the time I launched the executable. I couldn't find an .img file but saw the rom.zip? Would the recovery file be in the rom.zip file? The rom..zip would not let me view it's contents, I tried using 7-zip.

Yep, that's it. I forgot what I used to open it. It was a universal program that opens all types of files. You can get the recovery file from that link I gave you also and I'll look and see what program I used to open it with because it doesn't open with all unzipping programs.
EDIT: I believe I used Uniextract but you don't need to do that now that I linked you to the "how to get back to stock on VM 816." He's got the recovery linked there along with the ROM's .

Yeah. You have to first unroot your device then re flash your stock recovery and then lock your bootloader before doing any of that. Exe. or zip. That's the first thing to get straight. The exe contains the whole firmware and is a total re flash of your device. Some just extract the rom.zip and flash that through ADB/fastboot but the steps I mentioned earlier still should be done first.

You'll also need to get into hboot/fastboot to unlock your bootloader using the htc.dev key you used to get it unlocked in the first place. Then flash back your stock recovery and relock your bootloader. From there you can flash back your stock rom.
