I recently did my ota to jellybean and restored my root access with voodoo. When I enabled lbe privacy app it caused my phone to continually reboot. I had to yank the battery out to stop it. I ended having to restore it to factory settings in recovery mode. Was not happy about this to say the least. Lost root basically had to start over. Beware of this app.

For me, LBE Privacy Guard is a must HAVE app. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with jellybean. I hope developers update it asap.

Hopefully the Dev team will sort it out. It was very useful on ICS, but I ran into the same issue as you when I tried using it in JB.

Boot to safe mode and uninstall it. I ran in to this too before reading up on it, not expecting the app to make the phone unusable.
http://www.myvusers.com/forums/samsung-galaxy-nexus/10880-safe-mode-galaxy-nexus-samsung.html
I got hit with this too.
On the plus side Droidwall works again after Jelly bean
I just simply denied it root access, and it stopped rebooting.
I had the same problem as you, the phone soft-rebooted when LBE was given root access.
But i quickly (had like 1 minute before LBE kicked in) went into superuser-app and told it to prompt LBE, and when LBE wanted root access, i denied it, and the phone worked as usual again
to get LBE to work install it, grant root, reboot into recovery and fix permissions no need to wipe
LBE still needs to be updated for JB compatibility ... active protection is not working but traffic monitoring is
I am going to install it in a SDK see if I can play with it.

I guess for now if I feeling paranoid and wearing my tin hat I will switch my Sim card to my Nokia. I have lookout on my phone so I know which apps are tracking lbe was there to control them.

Yeah, but without the active protection service. And i use LBE for that. I don't care for traffic monitoring .
So keep on going lazl0 :good:
I tried the LBE-version which is included in MIUI 4.1 and it works great
Maybe has not that much features like the market-LBE but it's enough for me.
You can't install it, you have to copy it to /system/app and set the permissions to 755.
I've uploaded the current version(1.3.6) for you:

hi there,
i loved LBE PG on my Galaxy Nexus with ICS. the most useful/important app for my peace of mind...
since Jelly Bean i have the same problem with reboot loops and an inevitable restore.
what do you guys think of Permissions Free? it isnt as easy to use as LBE PG, but it seems it delivers the same feature of per-app setting of permissions. when you start it though, you have to be patient as the app does a check procedure first. and after diasallowing a permission for an app the phone needs a reboot... there is also a couple of features only on the paid version...
pdroid is obviously not available for JB either...
how is this type of app not the main issue??? setting these things is so crucial to privacy!

I`am using Avast, been using it for years on my computers and they seem to do the job well. Using it for a while now on android and it is light on the system and it works well i suppose and it has a lot of options you can set. Installable from Play Store.
avast
Avast is notably fully featured. AV + FW (root required) + anti-theft. And more notably, it's completely free.

just curious, do we really need to put AV on Note2 ? considering avast or kaspersky from googleplay, but i'm still thinking that its not my must have app.
Virii aren't a problem on Android yet, but Avast is really useful for its other features... firewall, anti-theft, permissions snooper, etc. You could use DroidWall, Cerberus, Permission Explorer instead, though.

Firewall. You can only activate it if your phone is rooted.
Regarding the "No AV" comments, this is true if you don't sideload apps (i.e., only download apps from the Play Store). Otherwise, AV is a good idea.
But yeah, no replacement for user vigilance and care. Common sense! (No longer common nowadays, unfortunately...)
I use Kaspersky paid version on all my devices.
It has found 2 or 3 malwares from stok packages in Play Store.
So, I dont recomend anyone who download even from appstores to not have a AV check.
I think this is even more important regaring having root available.

Google has been scanning apps in the Play Store since February this year using a system called Bouncer, and this is going to be at least as effective as 3rd party malware protection. So, as MarionCast says, there's not a great deal of point worrying about this if you generally only use Play - I'd probably also extend this to the Amazon AppStore too, as Amazon do rigorously scan for malware too.
With 4.2, it is expected that Google will extend this protection to apps installed from external sources using an on-board scanner.
Personally, I think that most Android "anti-virus" software (really this should be anti-malware) is no substitute for being aware of what you are installing and the permissions it is asking for.
Regards,
Dave
I sincerely advice Lookout security.
It's very professional and the free version will do just fine.
I'm using it for a couple of years now to my full satisfaction.

I don't use any on my phone. PCs it is a most and I use what is called "Layering" security procedures:
1. Install Microsoft Sec Essentials
2. Use Mozila, most viruses attack IE
3. Install ScriptFilters, AdBlockers, PopUp Blockers addin for Mozilla
4. disable Java and Flash and only enable it when needed and trusted
5. Keep Anti virus, flash and Java up to date. You should really uninstall Java if you don't need it.
6. Use a restricted account. I never, EVER, not even for two minutes use an Admin account unless I'm installing a trusted software
7. Never use pirated software
8. Never open emails from people/entities you don't know or you never interacted with. The other day I got an email from Match.com (WTF! I've never been to that site), so I automatically class it as SPAM
9. Don't go to links you are fully aware of.
10. Clean %temp% and hard drive of temp files, clear browser history regularly
11. Scan computer in SAFE mode at least once per month
Few of the above apply to mobile usage. So, so far I don't see much need for an Antivirus app on my phone, which in the end will just make my phone slightly slower an have less battery life... Just MO
I don't use an anti-virus; with a well established knowledgebase, nothing malicious will happen. That's my philosophy anyway

Avast
IntroductionHey guys I thought it was my turn to give back to the community and I thought there was no better way to do this than to give everyone a new sense of feeling of being secured and protected. With that said let dive right in!
Prerequisites(Links in Download Section Below)Android Device (Rooted Preferred)
Avast Mobile Security (Free)
Tasker ($2.99)- Free Trial Available.
At least One hour of Time.
Download SectionAvast Mobile Security: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity
Tasker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsIm5ldC5kaW5nbGlzY2guYW5kcm9pZC50YXNrZXJtIl0.
Tasker Profiles:
https://www.box.com/s/ayafcwa7d5w8w3n59iph
https://www.box.com/s/3eqr8juwyd90jvsl7pme
Setting up Avast Mobile Security:
1.Go to this web site here and set up an account: http://www.avast.com/free-mobile-security (Also done in step 8 via App.)
2.Open the app on your phone and agree to the terms and conditions.
3.Click Setup when it asks you if you want to set up Anti-Theft and select Advanced mode for You installation method.
4.Choose Root installation method if you are rooted and click Continue.
5.IMPORTANT: Choose your Custom Application Name to disguise your Anti-theft App. Click Next.
6.After Avast Downloads and Install your Custom Package click Continue
7.Choose Direct Write Method since the Gnex is not S-ON. Grant Avast SU Permissions and Click OK. Do not Reboot yet!
8.Now you can log into your account or set up a new account if you have not done so. Make sure you select “This number has a Phone Number” and click “Continue”.
9.REQUIRED: After the Initial Virus Scan use an app like titanium backup to convert Avast to a system app. This will keep the so from being deleted after a factory rest.
10. REQUIRED: Reboot so your Anti-Theft application will load.
11. After the reboot open up Avast Mobile Security and go through Every single Option you see. Could take 30 Minutes to set up everything. Below is a Description of every Menu Item:
Virus Scan: Pretty self-explanatory. Will scan Apps and Internal/External Storage. Includes All File types. You may also set up your scan on a Schedule on this page.
Privacy Advisor: Shows all potential privacy issues. Shows you what apps use what permission and you can decide whether or not to uninstall the app. If you install your apps from the Play Store these are the permissions you see before installing the app.
Application Management: Very similar to Android’s Application Management in Android Settings. Shows what resources each app is using. Also shows Network usage for each app.
Shield Control: Used to scan apps for viruses that are being installed and scan URLs that you click on. Also does SMS/MMS and downloaded Files.
Firewall: Used to Blacklist (or Whitelist) apps you do are do not want using your internet connection. You can blacklist certain apps to only use Wifi if you wanted. BE CAREFUL! Don’t Blacklist your Banking App or anything like that.
Anti-Theft: Explained Below in Detail.
Setting Up Anti-Theft:
1.Open Avast Mobile Security and select the Anti-Theft tab. Enter your name
2.IMPORTANT: Click Avast Pin and type in your PIN. Do not forget this PIN.
3.Now click Send SMS to Portal. If someone steals your phone and tries to trade out the SIM this will send an SMS to the number you specify below.
4.Type in Friend’s Number as described above. Now PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEXT PROMPT!
5.If you messed up any of the information entries above you can edit the info on the next screen or by dialing your PIN you setup in step 2.
Tasker: For Pattern/PIN Lock Users Only!
1.Set up a pattern/PIN Lock if you have not already. Usually under Settings/Security/Screen Lock
2.Download Secure Settings (Download Section) and grant SU Permissions.
3.After that is Done Open up Tasker.
4.Import the Tasker Profiles that you Downloaded (Download Section Up Top)
5.Put FaceCapture.prf.xml in “SD Card\Tasker\Profiles” and FaceCapture.tsk.xml in “SD Card\Tasker\Tasks”
6.Load up Tasker and Click on Profiles. Import Facecapture.prf.xml. Do the same for the Task but under the Task tab.
7.After they on imported click on the FaceCapture Profile. And Choose “Failed Login Attempts Max: ?” Pick your Number.
8.Now go back and follow Step 7 again except to Facecapture instead to edit that task for that profile.
9.The Only thing you need to worry about here is the Dropsync Task Function. If you click it, it will give you an option to install Dropsync. If you do not want Dropsync you can choose a diferent Service. I chose to do Foldersync (Separate App) which will sync that folder to my Google Drive account PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT ME TO ADD THIS TO MY GUIDE.
10.Go test out your tasker profile. Make sure it is enabled and lock your phone. Now fail your pattern lock 3 times (or however many you selected in step 7). A pic should get uploaded to the service you chose in step 9.
Additional Security Measures (Optional)
I recommend going to Settings/Security/Encrypt Phone. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!! You must have a fully charged battery to do this step. This will take at least an hour and may take longer depending on the amount of apps on your phone, etc. If you forget this password you must do a factory reset. Use an app like titanium backup to backup your stuff overnight just in case you do have to factory reset.
Note: I just realized that if you have Avast installed as a system app then the Virus scanner goes into panic mode. I will be contacting the Dev about this ASAP. In the mean time I see no harm in having this installed as a user app. Remember the Anti theft app is installed as a system app. Avast is locked by a Pin #
This looks way better on a computer

Really good guide for those who want the free option. If I remember Avast had a CyanogenMod backup.sh feature so when you flashed your nightly the root protection wouldn't delete.
Although that feature wasn't actually functional because CM switched to a different backup script when avast was in beta. Not sure if they fixed it, I hope so.
before there was avast I used Vipre Mobile and when my phone actually was stolen the tracking haven't for Vipre in over a month.
Since the theft I purchased Cerberus (worth the money) test it monthly, it always works. For paid the one time fee is better than a monthly subscription.
Cerberus has the most features (can see logs, take photos videos from remote, shows battery level) but Avast is still the best for free.
Another good app is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=aperture.ezekeel.logome from the same dev that made Glados Kernel. It changes the stock "Google" boot logo and lock icon to a .png image. You can put your contact info on the logo and lock it in with a pass code. Anyone who finds the phone knows who's it is and have a better chance of returning it.
My only question is if data encryption is enabled and you need a code to boot the device doesn't that stop the security app from loading so if your phone was stolen and rebooted you couldn't track it??

I have spare time. I've always wanted to test it just to see how it works and back everything up to reverse it after a reset.
I guess it depends on whether you want a better chance of recovering your phone if lost or protecting the data if it got stolen.

If you followed the steps 3-5 under "Setting up Avast Mobile Security" then no a factory rest will NOT delete this as long as you are rooted. The app gets installed as a system app.
Edit: You know what. The anti-theft app gets installed as a system app but not Avast. I'll include instructions on how to convert Avast to a system app so it can not be wiped.
Edit 2: I forgot to add the tasker profiles. They are in the Downloads section now.
Edit 3: If Avast gives you "invalid Context during scan" wait a few hours. This error creeps up every once in when Avast sends out corrupted definition updates.

The purpose of a thief when it comes to phones is to steal data. Things like bank account info and passwords. If a thief has to factory reset the device to get into the phone then there is no point in him trying because what he it's trying to steal will be gone. If all he wants is to steal the phone he can't get in because you have a pattern lock on the lockscreen. Avast can't be accessed without a pin # and other apps can't be uninstalled without a pin #. So no matter what you are protected. If As long as Avast is installed you can track your phone on their web site.
Edit: I just realized that of you have Avast installed as a system app then the Virus scanner goes into panic mode. I will be contacting the Dev about this ASAP. Correction Edit:
Avast has a firewall, can block unwanted SMS/calls, redirects web in case you misspell a website, and blocks phishing sites. You can also use it to monitor the data from apps and apps permissions.
Updates are much more frequent and the Web Interface actually is designed better and more user friendly.
edited because last version i used before now was a test version and didn't have all the features. didn't have my facts checked right.

I'm honestly sorry for derailing the thread.
I do agree with you in saying avast is without a doubt the best free security app for android. I haven't gotten a chance to use avast since before it had the web interface. It looks improved a lot since beta. I've been using paid security for a long time and haven't noticed how much better the free service is until now.
I'm just saying there's really intense competition between security apps, especially with the other anti virus companies charging for features that are free and the same with avast.
I apologize for the previous posts, it was inconsiderate to the OP.

You can't download them? I'll check on that. Basically the tasker profile is for people that use a pattern/Pin Lock. If the unlock process is failed 3 times your phone takes a picture of the person and uploads it to an online file host site of your choice (Box, Dropbox, etc.) for you to view.
Edit: Links are fixed for Tasker Profiles

For those of us not willing to root right now, I have to say using package disabler to turn off CleanMaster, S-Voice and S-Finder have done wonders in the last 48 hours for making this phone just as responsive as my 2014 Moto X was. Wow I can confirm. Worked fine before and now it doesn't work. Doesn't even let me active the pack disabled anymore. Smh.
What do I do about the apps I disabled?
Doesn't work, License server error before program starts.
Also very dangerous tool as it needs internet to work.
If you by misstake disable something that has to do with connectivity you will end up having to do a factory restore !!
If you by misstake installed this crap onto your device, you might notice that the de-install option is greyed out, don't panic.
Go into the security section and de-select the app under device administrators.
Now it can be de-installed.

Doesn't work and useless unless the internet dependency is removed.
Usually these kind of apps are being offered for free at XDA forums, but there's always somebody who's trying to
turn it into a buck, totally disregarding the people who d/l this and softbrick their phones...
Also the whole purpose and usefulness of the tool is defeated if you need internet access to d/l and use it.
Reason being the phone fills up with crap, the same second you connect it to the internet the first time.
You want to run a tool like this before, not giving the phone a chance to fill up with junk/updates.
Especially important is this in regards to OTA.
Disabled junk is still junk eating precious space on your mobile.

I am not sure what you are saying about this app is correct! in Android please tell me which app do not require internet, and accessing internet is dangers then all apps in play store is dangerous. i haven't root my S6 edge and don't really want to yet. so i was looking for something like this.
yeah i debloated it with a few app i actually use, great thing about this app is that it shows you which app are "confirmed" safe to deblot. it actually debloted automatically like 140things from my system.
where can i get those codes i don't se it in any of the setting?
i was about to give up on touchwiz and this galaxy s6, since i got it touchwiz has been hell with the reloading of widget and icons, clear cache and data help but a few hours later the slowness would returned ( i already exchanged devices 4 times for other reason and all of them had the same problem), also phone would get hot, sometimes pretty darn hot.
This app has solve all problem (also a different launcher like nova solved it) but using touchwiz and this debloted app have giving me more battery life, super fast device, no more reloading, and it never heats up.
i for one would like to have a device from samsung that i would not have to deblot to get a lag free experience. i believe the only device i have never root from samsung was the note 3 which ran like a champ always.

Here's a much better and SAFER alternative:

BTW,
These are the 3 packages that i needed to disable to kill OTA on my S5 with KitKat 4.4.2:
com.wssyncmldm
com.sec.android.fotaclient com.policydm
com.policydm

About time someone thought about security. That program is being used a lot on the note 5 forum. I find it to be potentially a huge security issue. I initially downloaded it and installed. I later that about it. I just went ahead and factory reset. It has way too much access imo.

Yeah you can.
Side note: I noticed it says knox is bloat.. But when I disable it causes my phone to bug out. Anyone else have similar issues?

Ah, so that's what that is. DISABLED
Thanks for letting us know, I just checked and disabled it.
Something like this should be illegal. Disabled.

Thanks for this! I disabled it. I want my phone running as lean and mean as possible.
If you own the phone outright, paid in full, they should disclose what they are doing to it. I cleared and froze right after upgrading.
You all are welcome, i always try to share helpful info for my friends.
Thanks !

This was also present on S6 and forward. Not new, but this should never have been added in the first place. I don't want random games on my phone.
I tried to disable but asked "Would you like to replace app with factory version?" Is another app that does the same thing going to replace it? I can't disable DT ignite if I don't click yes

Its because DT ignite has updates installed. Click yes and it will put the "factory" non-updated version back on the phone. Then it will allow u to disable as normal.
Thanks so much for the find.
For those that may not have found it yet I have just started using Package Disabler Pro which let's you disable all of the verison and other bloatware without root...

DT ignite is a cancer waiting to spread. Forcing apps to install onto the device that has almost half its storage already taken by bloat. Haven't seen any apps besides the beam software install without my permission, had to install Nextradio manually ( which has annoying ads ). DT Ignite could one day install an app that can compromise your phones security due to programming flaws. All quickrooter exploits have been patched, however if it feels like a Trojan it is a Trojan
Just updated my VZ Galaxy S6 edge plus 64gb and this Cancerous AIDS is in that update as well. Before my eyes I had apps appearing like magic installing themselves one by one.
This is worse than most phones that have crap in their root preinstall folder that show up after every restart
Haven't had anything wacky installed, it's even installing an updated Instagram not from the Google play store
