Maybe just put a dbrand back on for now until they become available? But doesn't the back need to be taken apart pretty carefully? Meaning taking into account the adhesives and screws because LG made the battery not removable? I know you are looking to replace the back, but that also houses the antenna's and other things. If you do, please post and do a write up or how-to!

red dbrand is an option but i prefer not to use skins
AFAIK the aftermarket housing will come with those antennas. Once I get hold of a red housing i'll definitely post a how to.
else, the final option will be this

I am currently awaiting delivery of the red battery cover arriving for my black n5. I'll post up some pictures when it arrives to see what it looks like!
Might as well just buy a red one. I sold my black one when the red came out... I think it ended up costing me $75 to switch.

Mines arrived today! Fit is perfect and is certainly original LG.
Didn't do a DIY but it is fairly straightforward to change it over.
Here are some pics!
The basics were use a guitar pick to pry round the outside. It should click off. There is some small sticky pads at the bottom of the cover so that takes a bit more prying. Then the new cover just clicks on lol

Did anyone found the sides too?
And what about speaker grill? Is it hard to replace?
Thanks

The sides and earpiece are going to very difficult. Assuming LG used the same stuff they used on the Nexus 4 to adhere the display to the frame you will be very likely to damage the frame. The earpiece also seems to be sandwiched between the frame and the glass according to the ifixit teardown pics.
It would be better and easier to find a display with frame for sale and just move the hardware over that way. But with the price of the display with frame you'd be better off selling your phone and buying a red one.

yeah, but a heck of a lot better than $80. Ill message the seller and see if he might be willing to negotiate that price some, too. Who knows, some are.
Side note, anybody know of any skins that might cover over the small scratches on my backplate that might be cheaper than $40?

If you have a malfunction of the housing due to manufacturer defect then you can return it for a replacement. My housing was squeaking around the buttons and I'm returning it for that reason, outside of the remorse period. But if your phone is less than one year old (which all of these are) it's covered by warranty. Call Tmo customer support and complain until they give you a new one.
I'd like one just to make it look better...
I'm thinking about getting this phone, and would like a white one IF it wasn't two shades of grey in the back.
I've replaced quite a few housings on phones I've owned (BB Pearl, T-Mo G1, and a T-Mo Mytouch) - my big hesitation would be disassembling a phone that's under warranty, which I haven't done before...
...but a little electroplating, and the metal pieces on the back could be copper color (and matching) instead of mismatched shades of grey.. plus white.. plus chrome on the front (which might also be able to be plated).
Don't know if it's worth $100 plus voiding my warranty... though I'm a big fan of customizing things...

I have a good friend who decided to help me out and do some custom painting.
The paint is very low odor and after about 48 hours, there is hardly any lasting odor of the paint. Each door will be custom painted once the order is placed.
There is a purple, white, hammered copper, hammered silver, and a rubber black.
The rubber black is quite nice in that you could set on your dash and it does not slip easily, unless you drive like me
I am working on a glow in the dark cover as well. That should be done this week sometime. The first attempt did not go well and showed some markings that honestly I was not happy with.
What are your thoughts?
mmm... i got a blue evo door from there. Arrived with a bunch of the tabs broken. Oh, and with a scratch.
nice selections! i ordered clear n yellow before and fits very well. at first had some minor problems but with directions provided, it was easy. i may be interested in the rubber black. glow in the dark sounds..fun
Anybody try RIT Dye? Worked like a charm on the touch pro...
i think the paint jobs on these look amazing.
however
with absolutely no offense to joey, who spent a lot of time designing and working on the case, they have a sizeable gap between the new back and the case. its isn't too big but it is big enough to let dirt/dust/pocket lint, etc, into the phone and for that i cant get any of these.

Also no offense to Joey but I had to steer clear of these because of the gap. Active lifestyle with my phone living in my pocket means lots of dust and lint to contend with. If something changes and these gaps get fixed up, I will be on board for several of these doors.

So is there plans for a new door? Same stuff without rails or center lip and no gaps? I would also like red without the shiny finish. Something like stock black's material would be perfect. Your doing well from the looks of it.

I'm having a hard time understanding the differences between these 2 Samsung covers.
What is the EFC-1G2NGEGSTA material? Is it the same as the non-magnetic book cover EFC-1G2NGECXAR? I've seen the EFC-1G2NGECXAR at Best Buy and wasn't really that impressed. It seemed kind of like cheap vinyl/plastic. Is the only difference between these the magnet?
I would like to know as well about this. Why does Samsung have different prices for what it seems to be the same cover?
So I see Samsung now has these in a many new colors. Wow. Well I used my 50% off coupon and bought the official gray cover from their store. Total was about $35 with tax and shipping.

They now are showing gray, white, and new brown, red, light blue, pink, lime green, and orange: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab/GT-N8013EAVXAR-accessories

I just got a nonmagnetic one and its really good. Wish It had magnets though because the screen cover is loose.

Has anyone figured out what the exact difference is? I just purchased the magnetic one and saw some youtube reviews of the original. SAME THING! Magnets in the the same place. Same coverage. I just got off the phone with samsung and they couldn't tell me the difference. They say the magnetic one has more magnets. I don't think so. Also they say the materials are different. I'm not sure about that. Samsung guy also told me that they don't make the book cover anymore and this is the new one. Which is why they charge $10 more. In my opinion, they just relabeled the same product and made it more expensive. Can anyone confirm there is a difference?
So I stopped by a local best buy and compared my "magnetic" book cover and realized there is absolutely no difference. Size, weight, material, magnetic placement were all the same.
@dtziheucdavis if you're thinking that the magenetic one keeps the front flap closed it does not. (At least the one I have)
So now I'm wondering if samsung sent me the wrong one if there is a difference.
Any thoughts? As mentioned I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with samsung and after 3 reps later, all they could tell me was that there are more magnets and the material is better (not true through direct comparison). If there are more magnets its non functional.
Well, I just used the 50% off promotion and ordered the red one. I already had the gray 49.99 model, so i will be able to do a comparison as soon as it arrives. Also, I was able to use the coupon to order the s pen holder. It has good reviews on Amazon.
I just would like the option of the screen going off automatically when the cost is closed m or the s pen is re-inserted into its holder on the tab.

I received my EFC-1G2NGEGSTA today. It appears to be the same as the non-magnet one I saw at BB, with the exception of the magnets. Seems OK. I may keep it, despite growing to really like the i-BLASON I got from Amazon.
We shall see if the non-latching (or non-magnet clinging) cover is an issue. I kind of liked the latch on the i-BLASON and the extra padding the case provided.
Took one week to arrive from order placed to received.
EDIT: Really digging the fit and slim profile! I hope it doesn't suck up the scratches.

Hey where exactly is the magnets? On the regular book cover there are magnets too. When I compared my magnet one to the non magnet it was exactly the same. So the "front" cover has 3 sections (seperated by 2 creases)....a 1 inch or so section near the "hinge", a 4 inch or so section in the middle, and a 1/2 inch or so section. It seems that the only parts that stick are the 1/2 inch section when it is aligned in the middle of the cover back.
Hard to describe without picture, but does that make sense?

That is exactly how my "Magnetic" one is. And from what dtziheucdavis says his non-magnetic one is the exact same. I think Samsung just rebranded and is now charging $10 more for the same thing. Not cool!
I might be a little off topic but I found this case on ebay.co.uk:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Smart-Mag...lePhonesCasesPouches&var=&hash=item416f5f3250
It really looks like the official ones that you are talking about, and it only costs £11!
Do you think that there is any trick here? I'm surprised by such a low price and it makes me suspicious, but more than 300 people already bought it and the seller is an ebay top-rated one...
I also had a few questions for the owners of an official case: does the 2 positions (for typing and viewing) hold well? Will the tablet fall if I type a bit strongly on the screen? And also, I don't use the camera that much but it can happen so isn't it too annoying that the camera is covered when you open the case?
Thanks guys!

Well, for the most part....
I just completed the white digitizer/glass swap. The flex cable and pinout is identical, and it works just as it should. It was pretty straightforward, and one of the easier glass replacements I've done. For future reference, the Glass is NOT bonded to the LCD... making the swap quite easy. I intended on doing a complete white housing swap, but after closely reviewing the photos I found the white F240 housing has a different pinout for the battery cover charging points. I may still order one and see if I am able to modify.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Enjoy.

One thing worthy of noting... the glass/digitizer did NOT come with double sided adhesive when I ordered it. You'll need it because most of the old adhesive will pull off the the glass that you're replacing.

One thing worthy of noting... the glass/digitizer did NOT come with double sided adhesive when I ordered it. You'll need it because most of the old adhesive will pull off the the glass that you're replacing.

What adhesive did you use, might I ask?

Nice! But i prefer the white phone. Everything about the white phone is dope. But this does look great. Good job bro!

I actually have a roll of the 3M double sided adhesives that I ordered months back. It comes in handy when you're frequently repairing phones.
zounduser: I appreciate it. As I said before, my intention was to do the full white housing swap. However, they don't currently sell one for the E980. Only for the F240 from the research I have done. Aside from the battery cover pinout, the housings look identical. I will go ahead and order one to see if I am able to modify it to fit.
I will report back with the results.
Alright. I'll order it, and we'll see how it goes! I've repaired a couple of iPhone digitizers and screens along with a couple of Android tablets, but I have yet to modify an android phone. Can you PM me the link to where you bought the faceplate and such?

Template cut digitizer adhesive?

I just replaced my digitizer and it went fairly smooth, but after a week I'm getting dust intrusion between the glass and LCD. I was very careful to cut the adhesive to fit, but obviously not good enough. Therefore, does anyone know if "template/pre-cut" screen adhesive is available? I've looked on the internet and also called LG, but no luck.
My current plan is to eventually purchase an LCD/Digitizer combo and sell the old LCD and Digitizer, with the dust in it, to a repair shop or whoever needs it. But I'd much rather just get the adhesive if it's available.
Thanks for any help out there.

Is this $33 part a new/used take-off from a phone, new OEM stock, or an aftermarket part?
As to the F240 back, wouldn't there be a cutout for the TV antenna, or is the antenna cutout solely through the phones perimeter frame?

This was a new oem part. As for the F240 housing, that's a very good point. I am not able to find any pictures of the housing that is offered to see if that is the case.
OLLIESSHOP: At this time I do not believe anyone offers the precut adhesive. It seems quite a bit of trouble to sell your lcd/digi combo just to resolve that problem. You could always disassemble, clean lcd and back side of digitizer, reapply adhesive strips making certain there is a solid line all the way across below the speaker. I have no doubt the dust is entering through the speaker hole.

Thank you !!! I believe you're right, since the dust is in the top 1/4 of the screen. I relooked at the pictures I took and it clearly shows I ownly put adhesive in the upper corners, not all the way across ... http://www.feelc.org/LGOptimusGProDigitizerReplacement.pps (2nd page from the end). Thanks again, that really helped.

You should read the thread in the Nexus 4 Accessories section on one of these battery covers. Some people had some very major issues, to the point that it destroyed their phone. Personally this makes me wary of trying any of the battery covers.

The thing you linked is completely different, it's a case which houses an extra battery to charge the phone. What the OP linked is just a replacement for the rear cover/backplate of the device.

At this price I might go case/screen less and just replace the back when damaged!

waiting for white? Im thinking of the black one. I love the N5, but cant stand the smooth, no-grip hard plastic white. I didnt know it didnt grip like the black when I ordered. Hell, meet you for a beer and well swap!
Anyone have any experience with this product? Id really hate to get it and find out its some cheap knock off or somehow not compatible or causes some sort of damage to the phone.

Some people dont mind it. To me its a piece of hard plastic thats curved so theres no grip. Feels like im constantly about to drop my phone.

Same. Best of both worlds right?
Also, am I blind or does that eBay listing describe the cover as "black negro" o.0

It's not like a regular phone removable. Its just easy to detach it.

But isn't it glued at some point? I remember that I read that somewhere on ifixit.
So it does sound very nice to be able to replace it but will it still hold without the glue ?
I will wait a little bit and probably get the white backcover

Are the sides of the black model different than the white? My white sides aren't matte at all. I thought the differences were only the back texture and earpiece color (I like the white earpiece but not the slick back).

The black one is fully mat. Unlike the white one. The white one has a white earpiece AND the sides around the phone are glossy.
BTW here is a vid about a guy who's detaching the backcover (it's for another purpose but you'll get it)

Only if I want to wait 3 months for a black one. I'll just deal for now and hopefully trade with somebody at some point. Can probably do that in 3 months as well. (I made the number 3 up but you get my point.)
