Well, for the most part....
I just completed the white digitizer/glass swap. The flex cable and pinout is identical, and it works just as it should. It was pretty straightforward, and one of the easier glass replacements I've done. For future reference, the Glass is NOT bonded to the LCD... making the swap quite easy. I intended on doing a complete white housing swap, but after closely reviewing the photos I found the white F240 housing has a different pinout for the battery cover charging points. I may still order one and see if I am able to modify.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Enjoy.

So does this mean it's easy to fix a broken screen? I wonder how much the digitizer glass combo sells for?

Very easy if you're fairly adept at phone repair. They are $33 with shipping on eBay, which is where I purchased mine.

Did you just swap out the front faceplate? Like, you had a black faceplate, and you just swapped it out for a white one?

One thing worthy of noting... the glass/digitizer did NOT come with double sided adhesive when I ordered it. You'll need it because most of the old adhesive will pull off the the glass that you're replacing.

I actually have a roll of the 3M double sided adhesives that I ordered months back. It comes in handy when you're frequently repairing phones.
zounduser: I appreciate it. As I said before, my intention was to do the full white housing swap. However, they don't currently sell one for the E980. Only for the F240 from the research I have done. Aside from the battery cover pinout, the housings look identical. I will go ahead and order one to see if I am able to modify it to fit.
I will report back with the results.
Alright. I'll order it, and we'll see how it goes! I've repaired a couple of iPhone digitizers and screens along with a couple of Android tablets, but I have yet to modify an android phone. Can you PM me the link to where you bought the faceplate and such?

I just replaced my digitizer and it went fairly smooth, but after a week I'm getting dust intrusion between the glass and LCD. I was very careful to cut the adhesive to fit, but obviously not good enough. Therefore, does anyone know if "template/pre-cut" screen adhesive is available? I've looked on the internet and also called LG, but no luck.
My current plan is to eventually purchase an LCD/Digitizer combo and sell the old LCD and Digitizer, with the dust in it, to a repair shop or whoever needs it. But I'd much rather just get the adhesive if it's available.
Thanks for any help out there.

Is this $33 part a new/used take-off from a phone, new OEM stock, or an aftermarket part?
As to the F240 back, wouldn't there be a cutout for the TV antenna, or is the antenna cutout solely through the phones perimeter frame?

This was a new oem part. As for the F240 housing, that's a very good point. I am not able to find any pictures of the housing that is offered to see if that is the case.
OLLIESSHOP: At this time I do not believe anyone offers the precut adhesive. It seems quite a bit of trouble to sell your lcd/digi combo just to resolve that problem. You could always disassemble, clean lcd and back side of digitizer, reapply adhesive strips making certain there is a solid line all the way across below the speaker. I have no doubt the dust is entering through the speaker hole.

Thank you !!! I believe you're right, since the dust is in the top 1/4 of the screen. I relooked at the pictures I took and it clearly shows I ownly put adhesive in the upper corners, not all the way across ... http://www.feelc.org/LGOptimusGProDigitizerReplacement.pps (2nd page from the end). yeah, but a heck of a lot better than $80. Ill message the seller and see if he might be willing to negotiate that price some, too. Who knows, some are.

If you have a malfunction of the housing due to manufacturer defect then you can return it for a replacement. My housing was squeaking around the buttons and I'm returning it for that reason, outside of the remorse period. But if your phone is less than one year old (which all of these are) it's covered by warranty. Call Tmo customer support and complain until they give you a new one.
I'd like one just to make it look better...
I'm thinking about getting this phone, and would like a white one IF it wasn't two shades of grey in the back.
I've replaced quite a few housings on phones I've owned (BB Pearl, T-Mo G1, and a T-Mo Mytouch) - my big hesitation would be disassembling a phone that's under warranty, which I haven't done before...
...but a little electroplating, and the metal pieces on the back could be copper color (and matching) instead of mismatched shades of grey.. plus white.. plus chrome on the front (which might also be able to be plated).
Don't know if it's worth $100 plus voiding my warranty... though I'm a big fan of customizing things...

I'm also looking for reference about GoUnlock.com because I need to replace my digitizer. Anyone can say anything good or bad about them?
Btw Zathman, just in case, make sure you really want to change the full "LCD + Digitizer" package, which afaik is usually expensive. Maybe only the "touchscreen glass (digitizer)" is damaged, while the "displaying device (LCD)" that is behind could still be working fine (that is my case). LCD+Digitizer ~ $250, Digitizer only is ~$50.
found this online

Only 163, and they do all the work, plus shipping.

Well, I guess it depends. For the RAZR some online shops seems to have sold it in the past, although now they are all out of stock (maybe there are a lot of RAZR screen broken... don't know).
Try searching for "digitizer" and the phone model on ebay, and google...
Aren't the glass and digitizer glued together in the nexus? If so, you have to get both. Only phones where they're separate can you swap digitizer separately.

Yes they are fused together in this phone, you can't get them separately. But hey on the plus side, no screen dust leakage!
Has anyone found a decent guide on replacing this screen? I've been looking all morning and found a few teardowns but nothing concrete. I have a cracked screen on my nexus and have a whole nother nexus i'm going to use as a replacement...

That's pretty good deal when you must replace digitizer. All I see on ebay (at least fro Verizon phones) is $200 minimum. Here you will not only get this thing professionally replaced, but also not have to do it yourself, and end up paying less!!!
I wish I was aware of this option before I went about ordering digitizers on ebay, and to add insult to injury ended up ordering a wrong one
Get one with he home button on it. That means you will get one with the bezel which means much easier install. Just unscrew and replace. Ones without bezel are pretty tedious as you need your old bezel.

I'll be calling samsung tonight to get a quote but for my and future screen breaker's info please answer this:
On ebay you can see pics of the back of the assembly showing i535 or i710 or i9300
is there actually a difference in these? some sellers say that a i9300 lcd will only fit the i9300 not the i535 or i710
is this true or are they all misinformed? i'm sure samsung will say there's a difference but has anyone actually replaced their assembly with a different model?
UPDATE** when i talked to samsung i learned the answer to my question!
the LCD is the same across all platforms, glass too.
the frame however varies. i also read about someone using a different frame than what their carrier used, he had to mickey mouse the whole thing, said he couldnt use his home button, and to use the lock/ power button he had to roll up tape and shove it in... all in all the whole thing was rattley and far from factory.

Quotes from my roommate and things I know on the subject: Should you try to replace the digitizer only (from experience working with the SIII and other AMOLED devices.) Your biggest problem isn't going to be dust, but accidentally damaging the AMOLED. If you have worked with AMOLEDs before or know anything about them, they are extremely thin and therefore quite fragile. My advice is to just replace the assembly. There is a film that goes on the back of the AMOLED. Roommate says he doesn't know what the film does, he thinks it may have something to do with the stylus. It does have a header that attaches to the main board, so be careful. Just know, unless you are in a clean room (and I'm talking professional setting, like you would see in manufacturing) you are going to end up with dust if you decide to replace only the digitizer. Good luck.
I have complete white screens for $190 shipped.
Much easier than just replacing the digi.

I know the stock phones have a Wacom digitizer/ screen made especially for the s-pen. Will these replacement screens work just as good as stock? The whole point of the Note 2 as opposed to other touch screen phones is to have that flawless stylus experience.

I tried but could not find it anywhere.
Need to convert my white N5 to red

Maybe just put a dbrand back on for now until they become available? But doesn't the back need to be taken apart pretty carefully? Meaning taking into account the adhesives and screws because LG made the battery not removable? I know you are looking to replace the back, but that also houses the antenna's and other things. If you do, please post and do a write up or how-to!

red dbrand is an option but i prefer not to use skins
AFAIK the aftermarket housing will come with those antennas. Once I get hold of a red housing i'll definitely post a how to.
else, the final option will be this

Nicely done! :good:
Sadly not yet. I've been searching eBay daily for one and nothing. I order a red official case though. Might just settle with that.

yes only battery cover..yet to find the frame
I am currently awaiting delivery of the red battery cover arriving for my black n5. I'll post up some pictures when it arrives to see what it looks like!
Might as well just buy a red one. I sold my black one when the red came out... I think it ended up costing me $75 to switch.

Pictures would be great and maybe a small diy

Mines arrived today! Fit is perfect and is certainly original LG.
Didn't do a DIY but it is fairly straightforward to change it over.
Here are some pics!
The basics were use a guitar pick to pry round the outside. It should click off. There is some small sticky pads at the bottom of the cover so that takes a bit more prying. Then the new cover just clicks on lol

Awesome!
From which seller did you buy? Did it came with all the antennas including NFC and wireless charging?
Did anyone found the sides too?
And what about speaker grill? Is it hard to replace?
Thanks

The sides and earpiece are going to very difficult. Assuming LG used the same stuff they used on the Nexus 4 to adhere the display to the frame you will be very likely to damage the frame. The earpiece also seems to be sandwiched between the frame and the glass according to the ifixit teardown pics.
It would be better and easier to find a display with frame for sale and just move the hardware over that way. But with the price of the display with frame you'd be better off selling your phone and buying a red one.

I was contemplating buying the housing but I can't justify $50 just for a color swap. Then I realized I could sell my white cover back to offset the cost. How much do you guys think I could sell my old cover for?
