At first, i have some weird problems selecting Handcent as default messaging App at my Desire. (LeeDrOiD 2.3d and Stock RUU)
I have a Widget installed (SMS Unread Count) which displays my unread SMS on my Homescreen. In the Q&A of that Widget it says that if more than one messaging app is installed, it will ask me which one to use when i tap on the widget.
But that doesn't happen, it always starts the stock msg app.
Here's what i've done so far:
- Contacts -> Choose One -> Send SMS -> Set default dialog appears -> Set Handcent as default.
This works only if i'm in Contacs and select to send a SMS via Contacts App. Widget still launches stock msg app.
- Set notifications for both msg apps. As i received one, i got double notifications as intended. I selected the stock notification -> Set default dialog appears -> Set Handcent as default.
Works for Notifications, Handcent will get startet. Widget still launches stock msg app.
No i'm really confused and got no more idea what to do. As i tried another ROM without Sense (GingerVillain), all i had to do there was to tap the Widget and i was asked which msg app to start.
But that doesn't work on Sense ... please help me, this is really frustrating.
I guess just delete the stock message apk? It'll be / system/app/messaging.apk or something like that just adb or terminal on the phone need advise just pm me

Works fine with my LeeDroid 2.3d
Un-select all.

Never mind, i figured it out what you wanted to say But that only disables double notification, which is not the problem. (i know ho to disable this)
The whole case is all about the fact that on Sense Roms the "SMS Unread Count" Widget won't launch the "set default app" dialog so i'm unable to choose which app should be default or not.
On other Roms, e.g. GingerVillain (No Sense) the set default dialog window appears as intended.
But i want that also on Sense

Why not just use the Handcent unread SMS widget? I use it and it's sweet.
I have just disabled everything else within the stock app - notifications etc - and replaced all the icons on my home screen and slide dock (Zeam Launcher) with either the handcent 1x1 widget or the handcent icon (can't have widget on the sliding dock)
If you use the Handcent 1x1 widget, you're guaranteed that it'll start Handcent every time!

Because SMS Unread Count is also able to be configured as an Unread Mail Widget and i want both Widgets to use the same Design. The Handcent SMS Widget isn't configurable and doesn't fit my personal desire.
Thats why i use this
Will bump this since I also have the exact same problem.
Any solution? Same issue running incredibly re-engineered.
Can't you just turn off notification in the messages app? That would make it appear like the default. You could also root and remove the default messages app.

As long as you have the app on your phone mem should be ok ... do not put it on your SD card !!...
No, to both of the guys above me. App is in phone storage, and its not the notifications that are the issue.
SMS Unread count gives me no option to launch the app of choice. It launches the stock messaging app, and all defaults have been cleared in 'manage apps'
Sorry, i didnt notice you were asking about the SMS unread count. I dont use that so i cant say how it works.
Have you tried:
Settings --> Applications --> Select "Stock messaging" app --> "Clear Defaults"
This will remove the Stock Messaging app as the default app for all chosen situations, if there are any. If there aren't, the button is greyed out and isn't the problem.

Tried that. Did not work.
Use "App Vault" and disable the stock message application..!
it can be done in one click without using any command..!!
Hi all,
I use Zeam launcher because of its lightness, but there's unfortunately no option for adding custom shortcuts to your homescreens.
For example, when using ADW I put a shortcut directly to the alarm, without having to click on Clock > Alarm. Seems that I can't do that with Zeam.
So, I downloaded an app called Custom Shortcuts, but I must say it's quite weird. When I click on it, I have access to the most recent tasks but it seems that I need to know the URI of the activity I want to put a shortcut to, and I don't know those URI...
Could anyone help, please? Thanks!
I think Any Cut may be what you're looking for

Running Juggernaut 3.7 (doesn't have much to do but just to tell ya), I want to set my default alarm clock app to a different app. For instance, I run TypoClock and it defaults to google's default alarm app, I want to change the system's own default alarm app so when it opens default app, it opens my preferred app.
Is it a default path for TypoClock or can I change the system's choice of default alarm app?
Hi, i think the title says it all
im new in this NFC thing, recieved my tags yesterday and i spend the day playing with it!
but i have one question / problem and i dont know if its possible, i want to enable the alarm, but the alarms i already had programed in my clock,
but i can only create new alarms.
i tryed dozens of nfc apps in playstore, and all have the same function to alarm, they add a new one instead of enabling the existing ones..
any workaround for this ?
thanks
The reason for this is that pretty much all alarm apps (including stock) allow for multiple alarms, so if you tap a tag that is just supposed to turn your alarm on, it wouldn't know which one. The Samsung Tectile app kinda has a work around - you set up an alarm within the app, then you can create a tag to just turn on, turn off, or toggle that one alarm in the app. Of course, this is dependent upon you having a phone that the Samsung Tectile app is compatible with and also having 1K tags because their app uses more memory for a simple task than any other NFC app out there.
That's the only nfc app I know of that has a feature kinda like what you are wanting to do. Hope that helps.

The reason for this is that most apps use the ALARM intent to set alarms. Some apps (like the stock AOSP clock package) identify duplicate alarms and enable them rather than creating new alarms. Others (like HTC and Samsung's clock packages) create a new alarm every time.
To get around this you could try operating directly on the alarms databases (assuming they are exposed via a content resolver and there's a listener to pick up the changes).
Would just turning alarm volume up or down to mute accomplish what you want?

Hi all
i used to use 3rd party alarm clock apps until the 4.2 update which introduced a rather polished feeling clock app that i really like all is perfect from the timer to the world clock but there's one really REALLY simple feature that i don't have a clue how to do
CHANGE THE ALARM RINGTONE
and i am dead serious i ca't find a way to change it! theres only potassium hassium sium this sium that ....so any help ?
take any sound you want to use as an alarm.
create a folder on 'sdcard'
/sdcard/media/audio/alarms
put sounds in there
select from list in alarm app
You can change alarm sounds. I use Zedge application to download ringtones and alarm tones and notification alert tones. You can set it directly from within the app. They have a huge collection. Go have a look at it too
