Hi guys,
I have a brand new GS4 Mini and it's having this really strange issue.
Whenever i plug it into the charger it says "battery removed" and the battery symbol starts blinking.
I've tried a different battery and a different charger (I have multiple GS4 Mini's but it's always the same result).
It's running stock Samsung Android 4.2.2.
Can this be a software issue or is it hardware related?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
I had this issue in my GS2. But when I changed the battery with other one, it was gone
And then, It never happenned when I upgraded phone to 4.1.2

Hi,
I've already changed the battery and the charger, it didn't work.
But strangely when I plugged it into a USB port on my laptop it started charging and afterwards charging from the wall plug also worked.
I've now also updated Android to the latest release from Samsung.
But it's still a strange issue since it's a brand new phone.
I hope it stays working but I can't be sure as I have no idea what was actually causing the issue in the first place.
Thanks for your input.

Hi, I did clean them but forgot to mention it in the OP, sorry about that.
The battery is working, the error only occurred when the charger was plugged into the phone.
But like I said, it's working now for some odd reason, I'm just trying to understand what caused it to not work before.
Once again thank you for your input.

Hi, I have been trying to google for this issue for around 3 hours now and could only see one post that was remotely similar but offered no fix, so here goes, I am reluctantly posting.
Bought my Galaxy Nexus second hand last week and everything seemed fine, but decided I wanted to go stock (it was rooted when I got it), so I flashed stock IMM76i, but left bootloader unlocked.
After doing this, I got the dreaded signal loss issue, however it was slightly different. Signal was fine when the phone was on standby, but if it was connected to a wall charger or PC then it would lose signal in standby. I then heard that some people had got around this issue by going back to 4.0.2, so I did this. Still had the same issue.
I was getting sick so I left the phone for a few hours and used my Sensation but came back to the Nexus last night. I thought, 'mm, I wonder if it is still doing the same?' so I connected up to my laptop and it did not lose signal . However, on second check, I realised that it wasn't detected by the PC at all. No MTP, no driver popup, nothing in device manager, and not even charging!
Panicking, I ran upstairs and got my wall charger, plugged it in and the phone started charging. I then tried another USB cable (a one that was charging the Sensation whilst all this was going on) and again, nothing at all, not even charging when connecting to PC, but charges fine when connected to wall. I tried 2 different PCs, both of which worked fine with the Nexus 3 hours previously.
Here is the weirdest part. When the phone is switched off and connected to a PC, the computer sees it, installs the driver and it charges! The little white battery pops up. Also, the phone works perfectly fine in fastboot mode as I have since locked and unlocked the bootloader as well as installed 4.0.4 again, all having the same effect. So, the scenario:
Wall charger charges the phone
USB Cable connected to Windows and Linux doesn't detect the phone at all including charging when phone is on
Phone is detected by PC whilst off and will charge
Fastboot mode works perfectly
Signal issue seems to have resolved itself
This phone is driving me crazy
I need a lie down!
Apologies for the long post, just I am at my wits end about this. As I bought it second hand,I would imagine I wouldn't be covered by any warranties offered on the phone.
Thank you in advance if anyone knows how to fix this. I would imagine it won't be hardware as it works fine when the phone is not booted into android, but the wall charger also works fine, and the usb cable works with other phones.
It was this way before you went back to stock?.. Try a custom rom also..
Galaxy Nexus AOKP m5 Franco kernel m3
Could it be an issue with
a) the drivers on your pc? (Try reinstalling using the GN toolkit)
b) the voltage of your usb ports on the pc? (try using a powered hub).

a)Drivers should be fine, fastboot works perfectly. I would have thought that even without required drivers, it would still pick up a charge ?
b)Tried multiple PC's that the phone used to be detected on and pick up a charge, can't imagine they would all be broke. Will try a powered hub abit later when I get home

No it wasn't like this when I went stock, but it also wasn't like this for the first few hours I was stock, as this is when I had the signal issue. It was after leaving it for a while that the issue developed.
Thanks for the quick replies! Keep them coming
Well, you're not alone that's all that I can say, please don't let the conclusion of my link devastate you, the technicians in my country are idiots.
My switched off GNEX charges from PC only for few seconds and then restart the charging again. It's as good as it's not charging (can you confirm the same?)
the issue lies in ur KERNEL. try flashing another kernel in Android Development section, or switch ur ROM to third party such as AOKP or Slim ICS. It solves the problem, I promise. if u want to remain stock, I cant come up with another idea because flashing ROMs is always a fool proof method

Hi, thanks for that. I have just got my phone back from our technician and they found no fault! I tested it and it didnt work for me so rang them and they said they only tried charging from the wall charger not USB!! So 1 week and nothing! It is now going back. I have just tested and, when switched off, it charges continuously.

Tried loads of different roms, including AOKP and Tablet hybrid. Both had issues as well.
So what happened eventually? PCB replacement? :fingers-crossed:
Well here's my story.
An app was misbehaving which made the phone's screen turn on and off. I was told that it might be lint in the charging port that was causing the problem. Cleaned it and the problem consisted. So I downloaded better battery stats and it ended up being a misbehaving app that I uninstalled and the problem went away. So now what happened was that it wasn't charging. I looked around and searched and most threads led to changing the charging port. So I did, I ordered a charging port on eBay for $13 from NJ and it arrived to me a week and a half later. I replaced the charging port and nothing changed. The phone recognizes that it's plugged in and says charging but it the settings it says discharging and not charging (AC). So then I thought it could be the battery. So I went ahead and bought an OEM battery for $20 which was a pretty good deal. And still, no charging. I then remembered it could just be the charging cable. Stupid me I said. Then I tried my friend's SII's charging cable and yet again no charging.
Now before I sell my phone and go buy a different one, is there anything else I've missed? Anything else that could be causing this problem?
Bump. Anybody have any ideas?
You said you used a different cable. Did you also try a different charger (you probably did)? Did you try AC charging and USB charging?

I figured you already did. Don't have any insights for you I'm afraid, you already did what I would recommend.
The first thing I would've done was to do a factory reset to rule out an app causing the problem cause just uninstaling maby erases the app but the app could've done something that messed up the system. you never know. then I would go after the cable and the charger, then the battery and then the charging port etc
I highly doubt an app can make your device stop charging.

I have the same problem, my phone is charging but when it's unplugged it shows "connected", and the screen turns on and off and drains all the battery... actually I just bought a new USB port and I'm waiting it to arrive so I can change mine... and I'm very dissapointed to read that it won't work ... It seems to be a massive manufacturing defect, there is a lot of people with this problem and samsung is not responding.
sorry for my bad english..

Most of the time it's the charging port. Hopefully it will solve your problem, good luck:good:
One other thing to add in. When it's plugged in and i dial #*#4636#*# it says "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
But I can still transfer files via USB

No, I ended up selling the phone for $300 so a friend of mine of knew what the problem was all about and since he had a crappy phone he didn't really care that it had a charging problem.
I'm about to buy either a Galaxy Note, S3 or One X.
So, my problem started the last night when I was off to sleep. Pluged the usb charger and nothing. No red led, no charging notification. Nothing at all. Anyway, I left it over the night, and in the morning the charger was heaten up, like very very hot, unlike the phone, which was at the right temperature, but still dead.
Tried even cleaning the female usb of the phone, but still no results. All I got now is a dead phone and I have no more ideas.
Any help of any kind would be great!
PS.: The battery was very low, like 2 left percents, so I can't even boot in bootloader

What ROM and Kernel you have?
unboxed rom new layout and stock kernel. i guess it caused the problem because it started right after installing the rom

To me it sounds like kernel issue.
Hello!
My phone suddenly stopped charging... and now it is dead... now... like every 3 or 5 minutes, it vibrates by itself, even if unplugged... Anyone heard of this issue?
More info in my last post:
I'm unlocked, rooted, xposed, installed Beanstalk ROM, etc... But I did that months ago (I don't know, 6 months ago?) and it has been working flaglessly, I didnt do ANY change prior to this problem (really, no changes, not even a new appp installed or removed in months)
So I really think it is something in the usb charger.... Maybe I'm wrong and it got bricked somehow... please validate that.
Also, it still vibrating at least once every five minutes. (I woke up all night with it vibrating and now it is on my desk and it still does it)
I just tried an adb wait-for-devices and nothing happens, also tried to reboot it the same way and nothing happens.
Now, I remember that I did something before the phone turned off (battery ran off) I deactivated an Xposed module (latalysm or somethign like that) and didn't reboot it to complete the deactivation. Maybe it has something to do with 0% battery and that?
I really don't think so... But your advice is really welcome.
Thank you in advance.
Did you rooted or unlocked?

You are bricked .
Check unbricking threads...

New data:
When I pluggin the phone to the PC, the PC plays the "hardware detection sound" but then it disconnects too. Maybe it has something to do with the battery or something related?
Thank you in advance, phone is still dead.
Mario.
Well... my phone is now even more dead... I think the problem is the battery, even if I try to charge it doesn't even get warm, I replaced the usb piece of the phone expecting that it was something with that but no... Now I'm waiting to get a replacement battery.
Anyone heard of the same issue? I've found many people having the same issue, but most of them solved the problem unplugging the battery and then plugging it back again.
Please help!
Regards.

I have exactly the same problem. It's like the phone is not charging at all. Have you tried taking the battery out and then in?
Small update: I've tried 4 different chargers and god knows how many different cables, tried connecting it to the PC, nothing seems to help.

Yes I tried that 2 months ago... But yesterday... I arrived home and tried to charge again, waited about 2 hours, turned it in and pop... I have the phone again (I keep losing phone and data signal, but... come on, it is on now)... So I don't know... I heard many times that pluging in and off the battery and "waiting" seemed to work for a lot of people, but come on... 2 months?
Regards.

Wow... so the problem is not the battery... then it is really weird, how can just "waiting" be the solution?

That is a lot... I waited 2 months... sorry I don't know anything about the matter... but don't lose faith, maybe it will turn on again someday.... Advice, charge it and leave it charging for... a week? then try again.
I've decided to fiddle with a needle inside the USB charging port recently. After that my phone suddenly was recognised by the computer and started charging and working. After I connect it to the real charger, doesn't matter if it's original or not, it stops working and doesn't even charge from the PC. Then I have to fiddle inside the charging port and everything works again... wtf really? what can be dead?

I'm not so sure... It sound's more like I'm either grounding some contacts or I'm somehow short circuiting something. Maybe it could be a broken capacitor or something? That would explain why your phone started working after 2 month.
Well in any case it would be interesting íf somebody with that issue would try touching the contacts in the USB port with metal needle and connect the phone to the PC.
I've ordered a new USB thingy already and going to swap it soon, I'll keep you updated.
I have try to change the battery and the usb port. The battery work one time but won't charge. Can't say if it is the same issue or because is is a cheap battery
Any news NiKiToS?
Hello im new to the forum, a friend of mine suggested this is the best place to post this so here it goes:
I bought a used Pixel XL3 from ebay, it arrived today and i immediately turned the phone on, it had about 25% battery in it, i used it for most of the day, when i got home i tried charging it with the original charger and when i connected the phone it didnt show it was charging at all. I tried 2 other charges/cables and the same result. I know the phone did detect the cable was being connected because every time i connected the usb cable the phone kind of blinked, but it didnt charge.
I researched on Reddit and someone witha similar problem suggested i completely drain the battery and then try and charge it again. I drained the battery and now when i connect the phone it shows a gray battery icon with a lightning bolt in it for a few seconds, then it boots to the google logo and then it shuts down again. It does this over and over again.
Im at a complete loss of what to try or do next. The phone did work when i took it out of the box! I cannot RMA it to Google since im not the original buyer of the phone and im also out of the US.
Any assistance would be really appreciated!
Try a wireless charger?
If you plug it in when off does it charge? Leave it charging for as long as you can then boot up.
I've had this problem and although it seems like a software issue there's no solution in sight and many people experiencing it.
Once you have the phone on check for a notification that says "Charging connected device via USB" - choose that - select "This device" (instead of "Connected device") Not a fix, but I"ve been getting by doing this and it allows me to charge. I am close to getting a replacement.

Welcome. Both ideas of turning the phone off and charging from there, and wireless charging are good ones. Once you get a decent charge on the battery, go into Recovery and do a factory reset. If the problem presents itself after a reset you may have a hardware issue like the USB port itself or the battery. If the phone is bootloader unlocked (or unlockable) you may have a few more options. What are the first 2 digits of your IMEI?
I'm having the exact same problem with my Google pixel 3 XL. I don't know if it's the charging port or it's because I'm running Android Q beta 4 and it's been happening for 2 days now. I'm going to try a factory reset tomorrow night if nothing else works then I'll update it here.

Ok, so have you tried wireless charging to rule out the USB interface? Hopefully a fresh install with latest P will get you back up and running.
