Hi Guys,
Before I start, I have read many threads (I think all) relating to this problem and I have googled, googled and googled.
My Device:
GSM Galaxy Nexus
Problem:
It won't charge. No matter if turned on or off. The battery stays always at 0% and when taking a look at *#*#4636#*#* it says "charging".
What I have tried:
- Bought three different batteries.
- Tried two different cables, incl. the OEM one.
- Tried two different wall chargers.
- Replaced the Micro USB port.
- Wiped, reset etc. the phone.
- Tried different ROMs and Kernels. (Yes, I am desperate).
Any advice what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance!
could be the pins not making proper contract with the battery

Thanks, crixley.
I will check that or do you have any advice how I could make sure that the battery is connected?

take look at any of the pins to see if they appear bent.

They look all the same. Not bent, not damaged, not dirty.
hmmm that is really all I can think of..
The fact that it says charging leads me to believe it isn't the port (like most people experience)

I have plugged my phone into my computer. It says "not charging" now. This message appears after a few minutes when I turn it on. Same happens when I plug it into the wall.
Now it's getting really strange. I didn't observe this behavior before.
Before I changed the Micro USB port, the message was >always< "not charging".
Now, after the change, it says for 2 minutes "charging" and then it changes to "not charging".
Did you replace the whole USB board as well, or just the port? It sounds like the USB board is bad.

Hi lowandbehold,
No, I replaced the whole board if we mean the same. I can't post links at this time because I am a new member of XDA, but you can search for "Dock Connector Charging Port with Flex Cable For Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250" on eBay.
UPDATE: Plugged it back into the wall. It says "charging AC" now and does NOT change to "not charging". Funnily enough, the voltage keeps dropping. From 2040 mV to 1961 mV in two minutes.
i'd say replace the device.
Unfortunately I'm having the exact same problem. I just replaced charging port literally just now and it still won't charge. It says "Charging" but it's not charging. In the Settings it says discharging.
Could it be the battery? I'm thinking of buying a new one and seeing if that works.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? with mine it charged fine in the beginning, and then it would only charge to about 86%, and then 84%...then 80%...currently it will only charge to 14%. I can leave it plugged in for 48 hours and it says it is charging but will not go past 14%. it takes a few hours for it to charge from 0% to 14%, but then dies within 30 minutes of EXTREMELY LIGHT use.
I've tried two different batteries which both yield the same results. I have en external battery charger and can charge the battery to full (according to the light on the charger) and place it in the phone and the phone will tell me it is at 14% or 8% or something like that (which makes me believe it has nothing to do with the usb port).
I have explored everything I could think of on the software side. The problem started on Ice Cream Sandwhich, it didn't stop when it was updated to Jelly Bean, I recently rooted it and have tried a few different roms including stock roms and CM10. I tried battery calibration apps.
So far nothing has made a difference. Any Ideas?
Nope no solution has been found. I'm just selling the device (and telling them the problem, so far I'm selling it for $275 and people want it) and I'm going to buy an SIII or a One X
well, this really sucks...it seems that a few unlucky people (like me) have this charing issue...
I too changed my USB flex cable thinking that this was the cause, but nothing changed
the battery icon says charging, but the system says discharging
what a major p*** off, cuz I'm fed up of changing batteries all the time, I have 5 batteries
I hope that someone will be able to figure this one out, cuz its a real brain buster
Any update on this? My phone bought in July is also just started giving this problem. When it is on it simply will not charge. All these months I was using another charger with no issues. I have tried the following:
1. Using the stock charger
2. Bending upwards the male connector in the USB socket.
3. Removing the battery overnight
Nothing seems to work. When off, the phone seems to charge somewhat and charging icon comes on. But charging when off for about 5 hours resulted in battery showing about 50% (from 13%) but it drains very quickly. Sometimes when charging for 30 minutes (when off) and switching it on it shows 100% battery, but then still discharges very quickly. Sometimes it shows very low battery.
Also my notification LED is glowing red since about a month, even when phone is switched off. If I remove the battery and connect the charger, the LED starts glowing red - blinking, so it seems the USB port is providing power as sometimes the battery does show 50% and seems to last a bit from there.
What are my options here? I am on the latest JB OTA update which came around 14/15 Nov. In India, I will get no service from Samsung for the Nexus.
I am going to try a factory reset first and then next see if I can get another battery. And maybe I should return / cancel the Nexus 4 I ordered?
Maybe try wiping battery stats in recovery? I was having similar issues today with "not charging". I was plugged in to the wall with nothing, so I plugged into the computer... ADB enabled and device was connected as a media device. I booted recovery and wiped dalvick and battery stats, rebooted and now it is charging via usb and AC. Don't know what happened, but it worked for me. Hope it helps!
Thanks for the response. Well, I just tried draining out the battery (it took almost 2 days lol) till it would show shutdown warning soon after booting up and then removed the battery and held down the power button. I then charged it in 'off' mode for a few hours, I think overnight. I used the actual Nexus charger instead of the generic one I was using all this while. When I turned it on, there was about 40% charge showing.
There was another JB update which I managed to complete (leaving it on the charger). The phone seemed to work fine, but did not show a charging state, but suddenly the next day on its own when I just plugged in the charger, it showed the 'bolt' charging icon and since then it has been working perfectly.
Simply no clue as to how and why it started working fine. Probably the previous 14 Nov update had some bug which was resolved in the latest update or the latest update reset the battery stats or whatever.
I am more worried about my upcoming Nexus 4 which has a non-removable battery as to what I would do if something like this happens.

I can 100% guarantee you that wiping battery stats had nothing to do with it.
My phone won't turn back on or charge anymore. The last thing i did was pause Google Music, then the phone just sat there. It wouldn't go to the home screen or anything, it froze. I pulled the battery and now it won't turn on or charge at all. Won't display the battery charging when i have it connected to the computer or wall. Can't enter fastboot either. I'm currently at work and the computers here wont recognize it when i connected via USB.

I doubt it's bricked. Will it start up into the bootloader?
Again, try pulling the battery for a few minutes. Then put everything back together but wait until you have access to a true USB charger, not a USB port on a computer. I've noticed with a few phones in the past (GNex included) that sometimes when I had a bad crash and the phone went unresponsive, that trying to get a hint of life while using a USB port didn't work as well as a charger. You'll probably have to leave it plugged in for a little bit, but after 15-30 minutes you should once again at least get the white battery charging icon to display front-and-center if you give the power button a single push. At that point, try booting into fastboot, then recovery and clean things up a bit before rebooting into android (Wipe Caches, Fix Permissions).
If not, seriously, do everything again, and wait with it charging overnight. I had a similar issue with my Nexus 10 after doing my first unroot and flashing on it. It took nearly an hour, but then I finally got the charging icon (in that case though, a battery pull wasn't feasible).

Yeah i tried all of that since 1 pm yesterday, that's when it just died on me. I have left the phone charging for over an hour and still don't get any sign of life, not even the white battery charging icon. Left the phone charging overnight, that didn't work also. I tried the OMAP fix but that also failed, it isn't recognized by my laptop.
That's a bummer. Once I had an Epic 4G that I also thought was bricked but the "leave it charge overnight" method worked even though the charging led wasn't on at all. I'm surprised that I now have seen an actual thread with a truly bricked device, not the usual "my phone is going into boot loops its bricked!" thread. Sorry to hear it man.
This may be irrelevant to you, but mine is on verizon and was having charging problems. I went into one of their stores and they had a replacement on the way in under 15 minutes of me coming in. Great service from them if that's who you're with carrier-wise.

My Gnex, which I've had since March 2012, stopped charging.
I got a new battery, it didn't help
I got and replaced the daughterboard responsible for USB connections, and it STILL won't charge
I flashed complete stock android + recovery, nothing
Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? I just want to be able to use my phone for a few more months till the Nexus 5 comes out!!!

Same problem, but I haven't reflashed or done any sort of recovery. Problem first occured a few months ago after latest 4.3.0 update. Phone would only charge when plugged to USB or phone off. After a few hours the problem fixed itself. The only thing I did was revert back to stock launcher since it seemed like my custom launcher was using way too much memory at boot. Rebooted and the phone was charging. But honestly I think it was just a coincidence. Luck.
Thought the problem was gone but it happened again two days ago. I let my phone run dry (didn't have anywhere to charge). Got home plugged it in and it charged when off but not when booted. I have concluded it's software related. Chargers and USB cables all work, my different batteries work and micro usb port is clean. Device will charge when connected to PC in most modes but PTP works best (don't know why). PC doesn't regognize device however so I can't access it.
What fixed my problem was installing Wugs Toolkit for Nexus. I don't know why but it seems like when it was installing all the different components to communicate with my device it got it to work again. My device was connected to the PC during the install and suddenly rebooted by itself. After that everything was working perfectly.
Sadly I forgot to charge my phone overnight and it ran dry again and today I'm having the same problem again. Looking for a definitive fix, any suggestions are welcome.

My computer detects it as "Unkown device", but most often it will charge in PTP mode. Also, leave it connected to the PC for about 5 minutes. That's how long it takes for mine to start charging sometimes. This is just a temporary solution to actually charge the battery, but I'm sure we'll find the problem
Nope, mine's not charging while off or in PTP mode...

That really sucks, I wish there was a way I could help.. For the time being you could buy an external battery charger (not expensive), but that means having to take out the battery every night Otherwise there is always the hardware options like changing the USB port or the main board. Have you tried pushing the tongue inside the micro usb port up towards the middle? This is a known issue on the GNex and causes connection problems (because the slot is badly engineered)
There's one more thing I'd like you to try. Plugg your phone in through usb to any computer. On your nexus go to the dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* this will take you to the testing menu. Select "Battery information" and tell me what the top 2 lines say. When I'm plugged in with the wall charger it just says "Not charging" and "Unplugged". However when I connect through usb I get "Not charging" and "AC" or if I'm lucky "Charging" and "AC" which shows that the phone detects some sort of input.
As the titles states, my phone doens't want to charge the first time I plug it to the original charger. It can stay for hours without charging 1%. I have to reboot and then it'll charge fine. I called google support and they told me it will be fixed in the next updates. Anyone else is having those problems? I just return it if it's just me.
I've had weirdness with charging for sure. Seemingly mostly with the charger that came with it. Mine will say "5 minutes until charged," but I'll be at like 86%. If I unplug and let it settle for a second, it will go back to 84% or whatever, then seems fine when I plug it back in again.
I've been using this Magqi charging dock and magnetic pad and it's been hit or miss. Sometimes just fine, other times won't charge at all. Wife is having the same problem. We both have a Pixel 2 XL.

ok it happened to me before (you clicked something by mistake )
just go to settings -system- developer options -select usb configuration- charging
if this doesn't work
maybe it is something else
I didn't turn on nothing by mistake, it's just not charging. I did a factory reset and seems to work fine until now ( charged just one time ). I'll update the thread if it happens again. I think something was messed up during the November update. I hope it's just a software bug because it's really annoying to reboot the phone Everytime
It happened again after factory reset. It's quite annoying
I've had mine 4 days and it happened to me the first time this morning.
To fix it I turned the phone off, started charging whilst off and then turned back on. Luckily it was back to charging correctly.
I today I now have the slow charging issue (on the supplied charger)
I ran the battery down fully last night and put it on charge at 2 am.
When I left for work at 6:30 am the battery had only charged to 67%, that's 4.5 hours.
Given all the other posts concerning this subject it does not seem uncommon
Yeah just got my phone last night and its happening for me too. Will charge for a minute or two then stops. Going to try the charge while off deal mentioned above and see what happens.
It's quite annoying for me... I hope Google is going to fix this soon. Seems like a software bug
Here is what happens with me.
I have the stock charger with a 6.5' Cable Creations C to C cable.
Any charges that happen with my battery lower than 30%, I have to constantly watch it to make sure it's charging.
If not, I have to unplug and replug. This happens several times between 0-30%
After 30, it seems to pick up fine..
Edit: Forgot to mention, when below 30%, it stops charging because, I take the power off it and all the sudden, it loses 2-3%
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL
Not sure I've seen a situation where the supplied charger didn't charge the phone at all like some have mentioned, but it definitely seems a lot slower than the charging time for the Pixel XL. It's offset in a big way by the much improved battery life I guess, but it certainly doesn't feel like quick charge, at least by 2017 standards.
However when I use the charger that came with my Pixel C, It charges noticeably quicker. I know the Pixel C never sold in huge numbers, and I haven't run any comparison tests here, but has anyone else that owns one noticed better performance with its charger compared to the one that was bundled with their Pixel 2 XL?

Tried Nexus 5x stock charger and it didnt do anything. Not sure whats wrong with our chargers, my Pixel 2 XL always goes to 98%max maybe 99%. Another weird thing that happend. I decided to fully discharge my phone until it shut off for the first cycle(first day I got it to calibrate battery). When I plugged the OEM charger in it showed the symbol that it doesnt have enough power to turn on(needs to charge to 5% or whatever it is), waited 1 hr, 2 hrs same thing. Unplugged, plugged back in, hard reset, bootloader and nothing. Same symbol. Only way to get it back charging was to use a cheap USB A to C cable I got from walmart, plug that into my Nexus 6 charger base and it finally started charging...??? WTF
Same issue
Looks like this is an issue with the November security patch.
Same thing has happened to me on my Pixel 2 XL and i have three different official Type C wall chargers from google (6p, XL (1st gen) and they will not work, however it will work with the quick charge connector in my car (Type A to Type C).
Reviewing the internet other people have the same issue and all seem post November update. I did a factory reset etc to troubleshoot with no luck.
Only thing i have yet to attempt is enroll for the android beta program and force update to 8.1 to see if it resolves the issue.
i live in Dubai and i don't have official support from google nor am i able to contact them, if some one could kindly post an update if they have tried contacting google and got a confirmation that its a S/W issue.
Bump.
Sooo, I woke up last night and saw a message on my phone that said something like, your device is corrupt, etc. Now my phone will not charge... The phone seems fine otherwise, everything seems to work, no more errors or anything, but, two stock pixel 2 chargers and neither charge the phone. However, if I plug it into a computer, it charges. Anyone have any idea of what is going on? I've rebooted, cleared cache from apps (not from twrp though), nothing seems to help.
About my phone: April update, unlocked, rooted stock. The only things I'm running are substratum with the swift dark theme, pixel launcher mods for Virus icon pack, viper audio mod, adaway, greenify, things like that. Nothing major with the exception of the theme. I even disabled/uninstalled the theme and rebooted. The problem is still there. Unless I get this fixed ASAP, I guess I'm calling Google for a replacement...

Almost sounds like a hardware/port issue. About the only 2 things I could suggest is...1. Fastboot the factory image again with the -w flag removed. 2. Factory reset, which, as you know, bites because you have to set everything up again.

Your description exactly matches my issue with a week old Pixel 2. It won't charge using OEM charger below 30% battery. I have to reset the phone, sometimes reboot works but not all the time. Even safe mode won't work done times. It's frustrating.

I'm having charging issues that started when I installed Android P. At times when the phone is plugged in either to wall charger or car charger it indicates it's charging but actually isn't. Only solution I found was to reboot. I should note this only an Android P issue for me, Oreo didn't exhibit this problem. Battery percentage doesn't matter, it could be at 25% or 95% so I'm thinking my issue is just a P beta bug.
Anyone got a solution to this issue?
I seem to be having the same issue as found on this thread, can't find anything here though.

I started getting this issue yesterday a day after I got a software monthly update for Nov. I normally shut the phone off to charge but sometimes leave it on. When plugged into something it doesnt seem to detect its plugged in. I even swapped cables to a slower charger and same thing. It doesnt see it.
When I fully charged it off, It beeps the battery and does a circle hue randomly by the home button but than detected the connection to pc. I ignored it and started up again but without the beeping, just wont charge when on. There is no dirt or anything in the unit,. I have not moved any-wires, they have been sitting in the same spot on the counter since day 1. I'm gonna try a factor reset if it keeps happening a day or 2 from now.
Same problem here, it was behaving strangely few days ago (charging problem right away but worked in the end so let it go) and now it charges only when off or if plugged within 30 seconds after turning on and only on normal charge speed (not quick charge). Tried to wipe apps and everything, did the facrory reset 2 times but still nothing.
I have similar issues with charging my g7, first give me notification of moisture detected on USB port, then can't charge normally need to plug a few times and sometimes get slow charging, i was thinking have faulty USB port, and have poor battery life.
Then I turn off and put the cable and charges normally and realized that it's software issue.
I flash the ULM10i firmware and now everything work flawless the USB port charges when it's turn on and have very good battery life now.
As an update, I called LG and they basically stated that it sounds like a software issue and to send the phone in. I declined hoping to get another update that would fix it.
I have yet to get one from T-mobile. Long story short, it corrected itself and now charges off or on and no longer does the beeping. Whatever it was, was a bug that temporary for me.
same problem here; no moisture errors, aleatory starts charging when it's on, poor battery life; mainly starts charging with the phone off
problem solved! I've forced LG BRIDGE to reflash the ROM and voilà, all working like a charm. Just download from lge.com, install LG BRIDGE, under "software update" ... "update error recovery" and it will download and reflash the working ROM.
