Hi there,
I have a rooted Z1 Compact (used the UK firmware) on T-Mobile network, and I've just payed for a 4G data plan and also replaced my age-old SIM card with a 4G-capable one.
However, I still cannot register to the 4G network so I only have 3G. Could this be because I'm in Central Europe (Hungary, to be exact) so I should flash the CE ftf because it won't work with the UK one?
Thanks,
Ben
Check your access point settings and make sure you have 4G coverage.
Shouldn't be a matter of UK or CE firmware.

I've checked my settings and everything seems to be in order, and I'm in the capital which is covered by T-Mobile.
Interestingly though, I've flashed the CE firmware (without wiping) last weekend and now it seems to register on the 4G network, so it seems that my problem is solved, although I've yet to see the 4G sign when I'm on mobile data.
It might be a case of your data plan monthly date not being reached. Here in France, changes to a subscription are in effect once one reaches the day in the month on which the contract was started (if you started your contract on the 5th of the month, then any subsequent changes will be put into effect on that day).
My own Z1c has yet to show a 4g symbol, but my contract renews with the 4g option on the 25th... Wait and see.

So today I'm on the renewal day of my monthly contract, and tadaaaaa ! 4g now showing on the phone.

I guess I'll have to wait a bit more.
The whole story is this: I went over my monthly data limit a day or two before I posted this thread, so my net became crazy slow. I thought, might as well look at the mobile data plans again, see if they might have a better option.
Turns out they do have a 4G data plan with 1Gb transfer per month, for just a bit more than what I've paid for my plan before.
So I've switched my plan, and then I realised that my SIM card is probably not capable of 4G because it's basically from the past century.
Now, I have a brand new 4G-capable SIM card, and a 4G data plan that was supposedly activated on the spot, i.e. about a week ago. Still, when I try to connect to the 4G network, this is the message I get:
And it reverts back to the 3G connection.

You need to check your access point setting and it doesn't matter you have UK firmware or
EC firmware and one more thing there should be 4G coverage then you have to register for 4 g service

Unfortunately that seems to be a dead-end as well. As far as I can tell it should be internet.telekom, and it is.
Yeah I probably just have to wait til the original plan expires or something. I'll call them if it's still the same after next week. Thanks for the help and enjoy your device

So I had to call T Mobile to get the unlock code for another one of my phones (giving my slide to the gf) and at the end of the conversation the lady told me they were doing this promo and I would get free 4G for one month.
Now I already have the Android data package - shouldn't I already be getting 4G on my G2 and not have to pay even more to *upgrade* to 4G? Or are they throttling my speeds, which I've never heard of and it would be very upsetting if they were.
My sister got 4g for 5 bucks. But when I was ordering my g2 it said the data plan was like 20 bucks. I don't know why that is

They are trying to sell you a USB Dongle for 4G for your laptop. They want you to "add a line" of service for it.
Ok, well that makes sense. There's no reason for me to get that service so it's pointless anyway, got wifi tether
Yah it would be and 4g isn't teqniqly real.......js

The actual download rate was 1013kb/s... that's nearly 1MB per second.
My data is out again. Anyone else? South Fla.
Data out. New York City.
Can you change your title to show this content? Like Verizon data out March 13th?
Just easier for anyone else to check before they throw their phone to the nearest wall.
UPDATE: 3G is connected. Not 4G
PA - Lehigh Valley (Out)
And here I thought it was me. I guess I did a data wipe for nothing. O-well
3g and 4g data fine here in middle of nowhere... (Lincoln, NE)
Called VZW they have no knowledge of an outage. If your out give them a call.
3G fine here with Vodafone in Germany...
12,02 GB of usage today.

Obviously this is thread is for Verizon users... in America...
half an hr ago i lost 4g and 3g....rebooted, got 4g for a couple of mins and then went back out...waited 10 mins or so rebooted and 4g seemed to be back on. Gnex Charlotte, NC
Out here in Rochester MN since I got up at 5 am. No 3G or 4g. Called Verizon to see if they knew anything. They said they didn't know anything, but have started receiving a few calls about data outages.
Edit: 4G is back for me now.
Well surprisingly I get 4G but 3G is a no go.
Edit: Jynxed myself, no 3G or 4G, thank god for WiFi at work.

It's affecting me in Cleveland, OH too. I disabled LTE, still no connection. I rebooted, and 3G wasn't coming up. The phone is working, just no data (just want to confirm that).
Strange! I'm in Montreal and I've got zilch! I tried forcing to 2G only and still nothing. I'm sitting at a Starbucks and cannot enable Wifi either. Very strange!

Data Outage Chicago
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do they not know there is a data outage prior to people calling and complaining? Don't they have checks in place that alerts when equipment goes down and/or data or calls stop happening in entire areas?
Here in Metro Philly area I'm connecting at 1X off and on.

No data since at least 6am when I got up. 3G icon on the iPhone screen, no data, no emails, etc.
EDIT: South Jersey/Philadelphia suburbs.
I am all good here, so far. I disabled LTE yesterday though and never turned it back on.
4g out las vegas
I have a nexus on verizon and occasionally drops my mobile connection (voice and data) when I have 4g enabled. Everything works and stays up when I only have it set for 3g. I'm using the latest radio and bootloader with BB jellybean.
Has anybody had this issue before and was able to fix it with a software update or does it usually end up with having to exchange the phone? I'm really hesitant on swapping phones because everything else works great except for this issue. I was wondering if I could fix it with re-flashing everything.

I have same problem. I purchased my phone from eBay a couple days ago and I installed BB JellyBean after activated it. I didn't really care about 4g at the time. But, now with JellyBean, I can't use 4g (full-coverage) because it drops 4g/voice within a couple of seconds and I do not have any connection. However, with 3g only, everything works great.
I don't know if I purchased faulty device or not. But, everything works fine except 4g. I read many complaints about 4g connection on Nexus. so, I may just deal with it because I can live with JellyBean and 3g data with unlimited plan.
does it happen on ICS? JB hasnt been officially released for the vzw nexus.
return to stock and see if it happens.

I'm going thru something similar...I think the radios on the vzw gnex are not the best. I've been tweeting @vzwsupport ..they told me to remove sim card wait for 30 secs put back in and check but connection still sucks. Granted, I just want 3g...no 4g in my area. Just be hearing back from them in a few.

So I am a little hesitant about activating the replacement device I received today...I got my Nexus before they switched to the shared data and was told I can keep it until I activate another 4G phone. I am wondering if their automated systems will treat this device as a new phone considering its got a different serial and all. Has anyone went through this recently?

I haven't done it recently, but that shouldn't be an issue.
Can't you just pop your sim in and go?
This is my first 4G device with a sim so I wasnt quite sure how exactly it will work out and calling Verizon didnt help at all the two ladies I talked to couldnt grasp the question I was asking with one telling me that as long as the Unlimited Data is on my account i'll never lose it...Figured I was much better coming here instead

I have unlimited data on VZW, and I had an LG Revolution, granted this example is before the shared data BS, I just bought a used GNexus off ebay about 2 months ago. I just walked into the store, said I need to get a micro SIM (REVO used full size SIM), they got me a new micro SIM, even activated it for me, and I specifically said I want to make sure my plan does not change and she said of course not, and it did not.
You should only loose it if you buy a new phone from them and then re-up your contract.
From this point forward pretty much all VZW customers with unlimited plans need to buy phones from other sources than VZW.

This is true. You will only lose your unlimited if you use a subsidy or do a transfer of liability.
Thanks guys it went off without a hitch and when i checked with *#*#RTN#*#* i was surprised to find that this phone has not been reconditioned...So I am assuming its new which is nice...Its a v.9 though while my previous one was a .10. Doesn't look like the signal has improved though so far which is frustrating.

Its a refurbished phone. Trust me. They're good at refurbing the nexus. I have no idea why you thought you'd lose unlimited...all you have to do is slip in your SIM, no activation required.

Hi guys I really need your help, I'm not Tec savy by a long shot but I got a SEA G3 four weeks ago in the UK. I had 4G for the 1st week but then it stopped. I tried the hidden menu, the RAT SELECTION method and downloaded 4g switcher. After this I changed my sim, but no go. The people I brought it off then emailed me how to change the APN (I'm on tesco (O2)). No go so I sent it back for a replacement. Yesterday I got a DEU version with 10 EUR XX but no 4g so brought a PAYG sim from O2 , tried all the above to no avail. Today they have delivered (by mistake anther phone! So I have two , this is. TWN but I can not get 4g on both. They are all D855 and my brother brought one the same time as me and his 4g works fine.....it's driving me insane pleeeease help
It is probably issue with your carrier or sim card.
When you put some other sim card in those phones, do you 4g?
You have 4g included in your data?
Have you tried your sim card in your brothers phone to see will you have?
I bet it is carrier/sim card related
The uk doesnt have that good 4g coverage yet and especially in tesco/02 and have you chrcked 4g coverage in your area seems unlikely its a phone issue after 3 drvices

Thanks for taking the time out to answer me...it's really appreciated, I definatly live in a 4G area as I live in central London , and I denfinatly have a 4g plan as that's what Plan I took and it says on the SIM card and I had it for the 1st week on the 1st phone. My bro is coming over tomorrow and he brought the same phone from the same company (on my recommendation ), but his with a different provider ,but on the same 800 band...so I'll let you know what happens when we change sims in our phones!
Why not just get a UK version instead of all this unnecessary hassle?
It is a SIM issues...I get 4g on my brothers SIM and if I use his wife's Tesco SIM I get 4g as well...bloodly Tesco! I had a new from them as I thought it might be the problem , so they must have me blocked some how
