is there an app that adjusts volume and brightness by swiping up or down on the sides of the tablet?
same feature that exists in popular media players, Dice Player to name one.
+1 for this. MX Player and Aldiko do it, it would be awesome to be able to do it everywhere. I think an Xposed module would be the best implementation for this.

I have a gesture set in gmd gesture control to pop up the volume slider and pulling down the notification bar is quick enough for brightness.
wouldn't that be in the way the way you describe it? It should at least be a 2 - finger swipe I think.

There are volume widgets that can be placed on the home screen for controlling the volume of your device.
I think he meant the volume buttons on some cheap tablets that is integrated in the status bar. A plus (+) and a minus (-) button beside the clock and all.. It is not an app but is included in some chinese roms.

There are two ways you can achieve this:-
Option 1 ~ Download a Volume Control app (Volume Ace for eg) and place it as a folder with other icons in your Docked icons (what I mean here is drop more than one icon in the same place as one of your Docked icons to create a docked folder icon.
Option 2 ~ Download Elixer2 and create a Notification icon whereby every time you pull down the notification window you will then see a volume icon displayed. Simply tap this and it releases a pop-up window where you can control all 6 aspects of volume on your Nexus 7.
Or you could try this.....

Audio Control had full Jelly Bean support
Audio Control is my favorite volume management app. I've tried them all and nothing compares. Plus there is full support for Jelly Bean included.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.matthew.rice.volume.master
My favourite is Volume Control https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.VolumeControl
Control volume from every app.
Place the thin volume indicator e.g. at the top center border.
With Android 4.2 you then have 3 menus when swiping across the notification bar.
I use Settings Extended, it does add the controls to the left hand notification panel though. I turn off all the un-needed controls that are now duplicated in the 4.2 settings drop down and just leave the volumes one. Its good because it lists more volume sliders than the stock volume control.

Someone told me a while ago about a button on the right hand side of the nexus.
Pressing up turns the volume up, and down turns it down.
I never would have spotted it if I hadn't have been told.
I've been using it loads since.
I think they are just scared it might wear off, just like what happen to my lg optimus one.

If you are using landscape mode most of the time (I am), it becomes annoying to try and reach. I do use a case though, so the buttons are harder to push.
Another option I use is 'Control Panel for Android'.
It gives you immediate control over a number of items including all the different Volume Levels.
To control the Volume level for say Ringer simply slide down the notification panel and tap on the Volume icon. It will then bring up a transparent showing all 6 different volume levels. Pick the Ringer and slide the volume down to the required level.
It truly is a great app. You can control a number of different things all by one touch ~ Wifi, Bluetooth, Sound, Vibrate, Auto Rotation, Mobile Data, Airplane Mode, Sound Effects, Haptic Feedback, Dial Tone, Auto-Time, Ringtone, Volume, Ring-Mode, Brightness, Screen Timeout, Screen Stay On and the main Control Panel
I should of added in my post Control Panel for Android is also mentioned by the author here in xda-devs.
Worth looking at the comments as well.
Anyone have a link to a tutorial or something where I can learn how to make my softkeys transparent? Maybe some with a 50% opacity? Thanks in advance for any help! And yes, I searched...

Have you seen the new Ubuntu Phone demo? It would be great if we had gestures like that on 4.2.1, too. No more softkeys, just pure gesture control

Sure did. It looks nice, but we'll see how polished it becomes. Android has come a long way.
That's what I think, but it seems that under to get them it will be a hard Work

Bump...
I am surprised, this hasn't been done.... I am too looking into this.
I use FullScreen Toggle to disable the Nav Bar (there is also an option for that in the AOKP-roms) and GMD Gesture Control from the Market to create gestures for the missing buttons.
For the back-button I have a gesture that starts at bottom left and just goes up, for home I have one in the middle and so on. So you "swype" from below the display into the display on the positions where the buttons would normally be.
The settings: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kk2oiqk145z7olo/2013-01-04 18.43.54.png
An app which is doing the following would be good:
hiding the softkeys
with a gesture showing the softkeys for 10 Seconds or so and hide them again
all the other gesture apps just enable me to set a gesture for back home menu etc, but a gesture for hiding and showing the softkeys would be great
edit:
LMT is able to run a script via gesture:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
so it would be cool to have a script doing what i need, but i don't know how to create one

GMD Gesture can do gesture to hide and unhide the softkey. But is does not have any setting to automatic hide it after a few second.
Hello friends!
I got my LG G Pad Yesterday
Is there a way to remove the Front Touch Buttons? I couldn't see any options in Settings! Is it possible after rooting?
I plan to use only gestures for the front key button functions... May be we can use the screen real estate more effectively if we get rid of the buttons?
Any thoughts / suggestions?
I just installed an app called GMD Auto Hide from the Play Store. It provides an auto-hide feature for the touch buttons. It seems to work well, except that it overrides the setting on the phone that lets you change the button order. I want to set up the soft touch buttons so that the "back" key is on the right to match my Samsung phone. It appears that the GMD app doesn't have a setting for that. Too bad.
Does anybody know a way to get auto-hide and also customize the button positions?

Thanks for the quick reply.
With GMD auto hide, does the display get extended to the button area or the area just becomes blank?
I am thinking of using GMD gesture launcher to to replace the buttons...

It gets extended. I haven't used it very much yet, but it looks like it does the job, if you don't mind the button order.
Ok, I played with the app some more. When it replaces the soft touch keys, it puts a red line at the bottom. I did get it to put the back button on the right side, but another issue is that it puts a "recent apps" button where the menu button usually goes, then it puts a different menu button on the right edge. I wish it would l wish it had more options to set it up the way I want to.

GMD Gesture is fantastic. It hide autobar (your tab need to be rooted) and replace virtual button by gesture that you can define by yourself. Moreover, the developper is very reactive..

When you swipe down from the very top of the screen my old phone could adjust the brighness right away. In Note 7 i had to swipe twice to see the brightness bar and adjust it from there. Is there any options i can change so that i can access to the brightness bar with 1 swipe?
Nope no settings but you can try 1) 2 finger swipe will immediately show all the settings including brightness bar
Or 2) install Good Lock, Samsung alternative system.ui. that has the brightness bar at the top
Oh thats inconvenience... im so used to one swipe and change the brightness. I dont understand why samsung removed that from the one swipe menu.
I guess many ppl just leave it on auto and Samsung figures they can save some space on the pulldown notifications. Anyway I feel the auto brightness has gotten much better compared to older models.
there is an app that puts a brightness control in notification area, you can try that, look in playstore for it

Just swipe down a little more and 2nd part appears with brightness bar
Use Good Lock it makes the note 7 way better, it's made by samsung and you can find it on the galaxy app store
Thanks trying good lock now. I like it but I'm not seeing some options in the drop down toggles like blue light filter?

This has been frustrating me to the point where I tried a couple of alternative brightness tools, neither of which worked well. Thanks for the 2-finger tip!! You rock!
When I had the Note 4 Samsung had a control panel similar to pie controls (back, home, menu etc...) that you could swipe from the side panel. It was built into Touchwiz and It was really convenient.
I can't find the option on my Note 7. What gives?
I've tried other pie controls but I get the stupid "screen overlay detected" everytime another app asks for permissions.
Anyone know of a control app that doesn't make that screen overlay window pop up without rooting?
