Hi,
I have a Sprint GS3 running 4.3 stock that I am contemplating bringing over the metro. I have a few questions for the experts here:
1. Is there a stock Metro pcs rom that I can load on this phone? Purpose would be to automate things like update PRL button to work for metro, Visual voicemail to work and remove sprint bloatware and use metro bloatware (ha).
2. Phone seems to be fine with talk and text but no data. I have looked at the guides over here but so far, no go. Anyone can help me find out what is my SID??
Thanks

T-mobile purchased them a while back. They quit selling CDMA phones last year and will discontinue support next year. I'm sure CDMA coverage with metro pcs isn't much better than Sprint right now either...plus, how much will they support existing towers? And doesn't Metro PCS 'flash' your phone for you? I thought it was one of those places. You should visit a store or look online regarding this.

I got an Evo for the intention of flashing it to boost mobile. Then I saw virgin mobile and decided i wanted to flash to them instead (same service half the price). I ended up going with metro pcs and I spent maybe 12 hours today working on this thing. I CANT FIND ONE TUTORIAL THAT WORKS! Also I'm now finding out that you cant use the evo with 3g in New York, apparently that's where I live hence a problem. Can someone point me to a good PRL, Tutorial on how to flash to metro, and a funny picture that can make me happy because I'm very angry.
can someone respond? i have a $500 touch screen desk ornament just hanging out...staring me down, mocking me
Dang 1:49 minutes, relax...
First off, you can't just flash your EVO to metro yourself. You need to go to a metro store and have them add the ESN to their database. This will active the phone and get it working for talk and text, just get the $40 plan!
To get MMS and web working follow bloody's info and flash his ROM to make life easy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182
Now to make you mad, Metro does not have 3g, you will only get 2G. The good news is there are ways to potentially get Clearwire 4G working for either free or cheap.
Virgin Mobile won't active the EVO since Sprint owns them and they don't want people flocking to the cheap plans. If you find someone that will actually do this let me know I would be very interested!
My esn is already in their database and I had service until I flashed my prl and now I have no bars can someone post the sprint prl for new york and had was it clear wire for free

If you want Metro to work you need a metro PRL, search around it is easy to find, howard forums has a sticky, the PRL you need 02004
As for clear do read bloodykiller86 metrodroid ROM thread I posted info there on how to get clearwire to work.

Also, if you want to try a service with faster internet connection (4g), try Simple Mobile. $60 a month plans.
I have found people who offer services for flashing a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 to Straight Talk but I am fairly decent at following instructions. I was wondering if anyone knew of any links to a good walkthrough on how to accomplish this properly. I tried searching the forums but haven't come across anything as of yet. Sorry if this has been asked and answered, but I was unable to find the information.
Also, does anyone know what network the service would run off of (i.e. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile)? I currently have my phone rooted and am running CM10, would I still be able to use the same root and rom files? Thanks in advance!
Yes, service provider and device are independent of one another, Comcast doesnt require using Windows 8 for internet right?
As for how to do it, I think I saw a thread in General about this, try searching "straight talk" just in this forum
And it would have to be one of the carriers that supports CDMA so At&t is out of the question
Sprint S3 is CDMA. Straight Talk is mostly GSM, AT&T and Tmobile, with the exception of Verizon. Not going to work.
Sell your Sprint S3 (or trade it) for either an AT&T or Tmobile S3 depending on which carrier you want to go with when on Straight Talk (you pick one). Their BYOP (Bring Your Own Phone) plan only works with GSM phones, either Tmobile or AT&T (no need to unlock either) or unlocked phones with the correct bands. Just insert a respective SIM card.

I may be wrong but I believe ST has both gsm and cdma phones. The model # for the phone ending in C for cdma.
Straight talk does support CD a. I work at Walmart and our prepaid straight talk phones use AT&T towers and some use sprints towers.

It does support CDMA, theres a thread in the EVO 4G forums about how to flash that (cdma) phone to StraightTalk
Like i said, with the exception of Verizon. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. Their only CDMA phones are Verizon branded, that's it. Their BYOP program only works on GSM phones. Sell or trade your Sprint S3 for a GSM S3 (AT&T or Tmobile) and save yourself a lot of hassle and grief.

AT&T is not a CDMA carrier, so what's your point?
Definitely possible

For people like me, where att service sucks, simply using an att phone isnt the solution. Not only that, att theottles their mvnos - I frequently get acces forbidden errors when trying to use data. Google it.
What you are asking for CAN be done. Straight talk offers service for gsm on att and cdma on verizon. Sonce you are coming from sprint - cdma - you will be using verizon towers. You will need to flash the phone. I am attempting to do this today by following on of the above guides.
I will post back how it goes for me.

Any luck so far? I have a buddy who is asking me to do this for him. I couldn't find any guides specific to the S3. Would like to know if it actually works before messing with his phone lol.
Any guides for flashing to page plus also will work here except the esn will have to be switched i believe.... But i know it can be done... Galaxy s3 on verizon cdma straight talk towers....

Thanks for the input. I know it CAN be done its just how and the details of which network it uses. Someone will do it for $50 but I can typically follow a guide well enough to do things on my own. I'll wait to see how some of these others go that are trying it. Thanks for the input!
Most of the time its put on verizon network for better swrvice area

Sprint S3 on Straight Talk
it is possible to flash a sprint s3 to straight talk, i am using one now that i flashed over...
because of things that cannot be discussed her, you will need to pm me for details...
as far as mms is concerned, you will need to use go sms from the play store and enter mms settings manually, this is what worked for me, i could not get the stock messaging program to work with mms

I've been searching for videos and guides but ijust can't seem to find anything but I know it's possible to go from Sprint to straight talk, so I was wondering if someone could be generous and help me with this, I knew I'm suppose to flash it than go buy cheap phones for cloning than update stuff, and I also saw certain roms can actually give you Verizon Lte with certain straight talk 4g stuff. I would really apperciate the help.

I know I'm very late but Straight Talk supports byod even cdma LTE should work too. Check this out http://stbyop.com/straighttalk/ or you could buy the kit at walmart for $65 but if you buy it no money back guarantee. I put in my MEID number and it's compatible.

I believe you are mistaken. I have a Verizon Tbolt flashed to StraightTalk. http://snyderswireless.com/ said they could flash my Sprint GSIII to Verizon or StraightTalk if I wanted, just no LTE. The guy is cool and did my last flash remotely, very informative.
(Sorry if this is an old issue and has since been addressed.)

I want to change my carrier. I currently have sprint. What are my choices and what are the drawbacks of each? Will I still be able to use MOAR ROMs? Ive never done this before any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Page Plus prepaid is great it uses Verizon network. granted your limited to 3G but man their 3G is crazy fast compared to Sprint. I had both my phones Flashed to Page Plus by a authorized dealer Evo 4G LTE & GS3 and I don't regret it. Everything works data/mms/sms. Now granted I had to use Verizon Messages app off Play Store to be able to send mms.
Now with in the last month or so Straight Talk offers service for CDMA phones I'm wanting to try that route next Friday and see how that works. I unlocked my brothers AT&T GS3 and activated it on Straight Talk Unlimited and hell he gets LTE.

Thank you so much. What Roms Will I be able to use after I flash? I use MOAR now Can I still?
Does anybody know if after flashing can I still use any S3 roms?
Okay, I'm sure the information is all out there, so before I get told to search forums or google, I have. My issue is that I'm just having the hardest time putting all the scattered information together and understanding it. There's too much information to decipher whats needed, accurate andd up to date for my situation. So I was wondering if someone whose done this before could just give me the straight to guide.
I have verizon, my girlfriend has sprint. She broke her S4. I have an old verizon note 2 that is unlocked, rooted, custom recovery and on CM11.
What I need to do is get it on the sprint network and get her service switched over to it.
I know it has something to do with APN settings, but there's so many different ones whether it's for internet and MMS. I basically just want her to be able to use it to make phone calls and maybe regular texts. I got all confused when I saw things dealing with PRL and what not, so I don't actually know which things I need to make this work.
I put the sim card from her S4 into my Verizon note 2 and opened the access point settings under mobile network. There are a bunch of sprint ones in there now, I don't know which one to choose. I tried the one just labeled "Sprint" and then rebooted to get the APN settings to switch over but I still have no service to try and activate the phone.
So could someone please give me a simplified walk-through of putting in sprint's settings on a verizon note 2. I tried flashing a Sprint CM11 rom but it failed. So now i am going to try flashing a sprint touchwiz rom to see if that will make all the necessary changes for me.
Update: I Just finished flashing jellybomb touchwiz rom, it flashed but wont get into the phone setup, says there's an encryption error and the phone needs to be reset. I did that and it still does the same.
Thanks in advance guys, I've flashed a lot of roms, I've just never switched my phone to another carrier before.
You can't activate a non Sprint branded phone on the Sprint network. Period. The esn is not in the Sprint database and even if you wanted to use the phone strictly for traveling internationally, The sim card from Sprint will not work in the Verizon phone for the same reason. You'd have to "clone" the phone/esn and that is completely illegal. I would spend my time on craigslist or Facebook and try to trade your Verizon phone for a Sprint one. That's what I would do.
FYI . Verizon phones are actually in demand due to the much larger customer base so making a trade for a Sprint S4 or Note 2 should be fairly easy. But MAKE SURE you check the ESN with Sprint before making a trade because a blacklisted esn phone can NOT be activated and you will be SOL.
So only networks like at&t and T-mobile will work on my Unlocked verizon phone?

If you're referring to your Verizon phone being a "world phone" which does in fact have a sim card and gsm network capabilities, then technically yes it would perhaps be possible to get it to work on AT&T or T-Mobile onl;y but it would be very difficult and time consuming to unlock the sim portion of the Verizon phone and hack it so that it would not be rejected by either network due to the ESN. You'd have better luck trying T-Mobile because they seem to be more lax with unbranded iPhones etc on their network. But in all honesty you would be better off trading your Verizon phone especially if it has a clear esn and getting a phone that's ready to go with no headaches and fully functional on the network.
thanks for the replies
