Ghost files(?) - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My SD shows 7GB-ish full, which I know was from the music folder... the problem is, it doesn't show up.
When I use every single file browser, it shows nothing.
I used DiskUsage to locate the file and it just lists the 7GB as "system data".
I have tried switching roms to no avail.
Any suggestions?
nvm: fixed.
Although I didn't manage to get rid of it by normal ways, I went back to 4.3 and had a factory reset (I didn't know factory reset on NII formatted the SD).

[Q] Is it possible to get access to internal storage if unable to boot into android?

My gnex was super stable since I got 4.0.2 (stock ICS, no changes whatsoever) except that it randomly crashed two days ago. I got "Android UI Stopped" message couple of times followed by lots of similar "stopped" messages refering to different system processes.
looks like two last posters in this thread had the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383109&highlight=ui+stopped
It was exactly like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeoo1Nx2T-o
I tried going into odin mode and starting fastboot. From there I deleted cache. I didn't want to go further and wipe all data and lose all camera files..
I wanted to gain access to internal storage and take backup of DCIM and other folders before wiping memory and going back to factory defaults from fastboot>recovery and was unable to do so.
Every time I went to fastboot or odin and connected GNex to the pc with usb I got could not install Android 1.0 and OMAP4440 drivers error message in windows 7.
What should I do?? Any suggestions? is it possible to get into internal storage if one only can access fastboot/odin?
(btw I tried to turn on gnex again after having it turned off the whole evening and it booted normally!! the only thing was that background wallpaper got reset. nothing else has changed.. dafuq?)

Music, pictures or anything - Not found

Flashed mySENSEv RC2.0 and going to keep it, as i finally decided the most suitable ROM for me to use. Anyway, I have a weird problem, after flashing, i had a little icon in bar which said "Phone storage is empty or unsupported files" and I was confused with this. I clicked it, and phone asked me to agree to empty PHONE storage. What happened? My SD Card got formatted... I am 100% sure it said do I want to empty phone storage. Anyway, i had most of my pictures and music on my another SD Card. I decided to download kernel and ROM again and now wiped the phone, flashed the ROM and finally got rid of that icon, as i thought maybe it was corrupted or something. Now when I got almost all my data from another sd card to this again, I have a new problem. My phone keeps saying on the music app "No music was found" and Gallery app "No pictures found". When I was on stock, when this happened I emptied media storage cache. Did it now too, rebooted and still this happens. Tried it few times. I am helpless, I can't understand what is wrong now. All was working fine before, even with this ROM before now! (I have been jumping through ROM's and this is the best ROM for me)
Edit: Oh great.. Found the reason.. Phone had emptied my Pictures, Music and Movies folder and I need to copy all the stuff there again. Hope it works now.

[Q] Major Memory Failure...

My phone is missing 20GB of internal storage and I've done everything to get it back. Please help!
I am fairly certain it is related to an I/O error while trying to move files in my Android Play Music directory which is located at:
/data/data/com.google.android.music/files/music
I tried deleting but that didn't help. I then went booted into recovery and did a factory reset PLUS formatted /System and then installed a ROM from scratch. I am still missing the 20GB. Any thoughts?
Storage does not simply disappear. Try using the app "DiskUsage" and see where all the storage is being used.
did you try formatting sdcard via recovery or fastboot command?
It might some old nandroids you forgot about Go to setting > storage wait for a few seconds let it analyze then check where the space is good luck .. if nothing works out you can always flash factory image that cleans up everything

That sounds just like the emmc bug, search it.
Also get the app /emmc brick bug. It will show if the memories lost. I'm not saying it is this but it's the same. If it's gone there are two apks you can get that swap SD card for built in. It leaves the system bit alone
Tried to put pick but says need to upgrade app even though got it today!
As you can see it works. One apk swaps, the other undo's it.

Thank you all for the advice! I could have SWORN I deleted all my old nandroids but apparently I had not. One of the backups had 20GB of google music in it
Gosh I wish google music didn't get backed up by clockworkmod, but I digress...

[Q] How do I change back to default ringtones & alerts directory?

As someone who recently switched to using an android phone, I am still learning. That said, I've done something that's mucked up the phone, but I hope it's got a solution short of a factory reset.
I wanted to use a custom ringtone, so on the external sd card, I created a folder called ringtones, and put my ringtones in there. Within the contacts, I navigated to the external sd card, and selected the new ringtone. It used the new ringtone, but I didn't notice that the stock ringtones are now not showing up. They're still in internal memory; ES File Explorer shows them in their system location, but within the settings for a contact, they don't show up.
I thought that if I deleted the ringtones, the system may go back to having the stock ones showing up - nope, the selection window is blank, and the only options to navigate around, are to the external sd card, and the /0 partition on the internal memory (which doesn't show a way to get back to the system area anyways).
Rebooting, blowing away all the cache (via App Cache Cleaner), and within settings / application manager, and the Phone, Clearing Data (which also clears the Cache), and doing a Force Stop, also don't fix this problem.
My google fu is failing me. I haven't rooted my system, and if it is a matter of resetting Data or Cache, I don't know which category to do so. Best Buy's Samsung rep didn't know how to fix it. Samsung's tech support person on the phone wasn't able to remote into my phone via their Smart Tutor app (their system was having problems yesterday: they thought it may be a problem with too many people needing help).
What I did is affecting both the Ringtone selection and Message Alert selection. I plan on giving Samsung's tech support another call on Wednesday when they're open, but I was hoping that someone here may have some insight into this problem as well. Ultimately, I want to have both my custom and stock ringtones showing up and be selectable. Thank you for any help you may be able to offer. :good:

Thanks, Shaun! I was able to avoid something quite so drastic. I was on the phone with the advanced tech support team from Samsung, and they had me do the following things to fix it.
I deleted the ringtones folder on my external SD card.
In the App Manager, in the bottom left menu, I chose Reset App Preferences. Then back in the App Manager, I chose Contacts, then Clear Cache. I did a hard shutdown and restart of the phone.
At that point, my stock ringtones show up, and also any custom ones I have, that are now in the folder on the internal memory, in a folder called Ringtones, that was already made by the system, and visible at the top of the Phone folder, when I connect it to my PC via USB.
If anyone else ends up with this error, I hope this information helps them out! :victory:

[Q] Unexplained Consumed Memory

I bought this Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 SM-T210R for my mom its currently running kitkat 4.4.2 non rooted which I am about to fix here soon.
The problem is my mom hardly does anything on this facebook some books recipes and maybe 1 or 2 games and her church stuff and for some ungodly reason it keeps telling her she has low memory around 775mb left and it wont install anything else.
I put a 16gig sd in it for her and moved everything possible over to the SD cleared all the cache from all apps and have gone to the extent of restoring it to factory and it still keeps doing the same thing.
My only thoughts are root it with custom recovery and wipe it that way and reinstall the firmware but that is a extreme I would only do in a worst case scenario.
If anyone has any idea's I would appreciate it this isnt my first rodeo with android devices I am not a complete novice I have rooted my phones in the past including my current galaxy s4 so I am open for any and all ideas.
Thanks,
West

Yea I am aware of that part my problem is I keep wiping the tablet and restoring to factory and within a couple hours it tells me it has full memory or low storage space again.
I went to the extent of deleting the non needed folders such as downloads images dcim etc and letting the system remake them assuming they were the culprits I also went into the Android\Obb
and also Android\Data and cleaned out the stuff that did not need to be there on my last factory restore.
And No matter what I do upon resetting back to factory the space gets consumed within a couple hours and that's only just browsing the web and clearing the cache when done.
W,
hi, if you have a large amount of pictures/video, it may be gallery
generating/regenerating thumbnails in /sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails.
Check the size of that directory, if that's the case delete the directory and replace it
with a dummy file named .thumbnails an set it's permissions to read-only
i ask because if your moms got hymns etc. that are actually in an image format instead of text
those will have thumbnails, the same with some ebooks.
Replacing .thumbnails with a fake .thumbnails will only make gallery run a little slower.
Many apps do the same thing, generating images in hidden folders on your sdcard for caching ads etc.
