[Q] How do I change back to default ringtones & alerts directory? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

As someone who recently switched to using an android phone, I am still learning. That said, I've done something that's mucked up the phone, but I hope it's got a solution short of a factory reset.
I wanted to use a custom ringtone, so on the external sd card, I created a folder called ringtones, and put my ringtones in there. Within the contacts, I navigated to the external sd card, and selected the new ringtone. It used the new ringtone, but I didn't notice that the stock ringtones are now not showing up. They're still in internal memory; ES File Explorer shows them in their system location, but within the settings for a contact, they don't show up.
I thought that if I deleted the ringtones, the system may go back to having the stock ones showing up - nope, the selection window is blank, and the only options to navigate around, are to the external sd card, and the /0 partition on the internal memory (which doesn't show a way to get back to the system area anyways).
Rebooting, blowing away all the cache (via App Cache Cleaner), and within settings / application manager, and the Phone, Clearing Data (which also clears the Cache), and doing a Force Stop, also don't fix this problem.
My google fu is failing me. I haven't rooted my system, and if it is a matter of resetting Data or Cache, I don't know which category to do so. Best Buy's Samsung rep didn't know how to fix it. Samsung's tech support person on the phone wasn't able to remote into my phone via their Smart Tutor app (their system was having problems yesterday: they thought it may be a problem with too many people needing help).
What I did is affecting both the Ringtone selection and Message Alert selection. I plan on giving Samsung's tech support another call on Wednesday when they're open, but I was hoping that someone here may have some insight into this problem as well. Ultimately, I want to have both my custom and stock ringtones showing up and be selectable. Thank you for any help you may be able to offer. :good:

Do a factory data reset.

Thanks, Shaun! I was able to avoid something quite so drastic. I was on the phone with the advanced tech support team from Samsung, and they had me do the following things to fix it.
I deleted the ringtones folder on my external SD card.
In the App Manager, in the bottom left menu, I chose Reset App Preferences. Then back in the App Manager, I chose Contacts, then Clear Cache. I did a hard shutdown and restart of the phone.
At that point, my stock ringtones show up, and also any custom ones I have, that are now in the folder on the internal memory, in a folder called Ringtones, that was already made by the system, and visible at the top of the Phone folder, when I connect it to my PC via USB.
If anyone else ends up with this error, I hope this information helps them out! :victory:

settings are not accessible, can't sync

For the second time in a few months, I cannot access any of the settings on my Dash running WM6.0. For example, if I press the # key to change the profile to "vibrate" it changes, then shifts right back to my outdoor profile. If I try to access the alarm, it says "error, the settings could not be opened" And I get the same error on trying to change any setting, like even a ring tone.
Last time, I completely reloaded the entire OS, reinstalled all my apps, etc.
Is there an easier way to fix whatever file(s) is screwed up?

I will recommend you to do a hard reset, If that does not works make a back up of your files and reflash your rom again. It really does not take much time to do it, I bet trying to resolve every issue in your settings at this point is much longer than fashing your rom.

Before doing the said Hard Reset, back up your files. A Hard Reset WILL DELETE ALL YOUR FILES AND REVERT TO THE MOMENT THE ROM WAS INSTALLED (it will rerun the connection setup, etc.)
OK, I took y'alls advice and flashed the ROM. But first, I backed up pim.vol, my ringtones, and a couple of application files in main memory, and I made sure that the .cab files for my apps were all on my storage card. Once I flashed the ROM, I just restored the pim.vol, ringtones, etc., then reinstalled the apps from the storage card. It really wasn't very hard. Activesync seems happy and all is good.
Thanks for the advice.

Apps on SD disappeared???

Hi everyone,
In panic mode right now...
I downloaded an app that helps you find all your apps that can be moved to the sd card. So it found 150 or so. After an hour of manually moving each one, I had over 400mb of free internal space and only like 40 apps left on the main phone storage. Awesome... but then this morning I noticed that things were running real slow... so I rebooted my phone. When it came back up I noticed some of my home screen shortcuts had become generic android icons. I went to my launcher & lots of apps were missing. I have a LOT of apps so I can't quite confirm yet whether its all the apps I moved to sd but it seems that way.
When I go to the market I see apps that I had yesterday as not installed. I have astro but I'm not quite sure what folder to look in to see if the apps are all still there, just not being seen by the android system maybe?
I've been driving all morning so I haven't gotten to research this much yet. Just rebooted a couple times hoping to fix it but no luck yet.
Any help is majorly appreciated. As soon as I'm at a computer ill be working on this all day. Freakin disaster!

update to my question
so now that i'm in to work i can mess with this... quick update...
when i go to manage applications and go to "on SD card" i get a big list of apps that have the names like "cn.miren.browser" instead of Miren Browser and "com.alphonso.pulse" instead of Pulse which is kinda normal except usually they then refresh with the regular name and the size listed underneath. well it's been sitting here for 5 minutes now and hasn't change and it still says "Computing..." under each one and instead of the normal icons, its sort of a grayed out generic Android icon with an SD in the bottom right corner of the icon.
so clearly it still knows that these apps are there. it just maybe can't access them? i dont know. could it be the sd card? this is the original 8gb sd card that came with the g2...
any thoughts?
???
so i found out that the sd card had some errors in the file system. so i let windows fix the errors. no help (although my phone boots WAAAAAYYYYYY faster now).
so then i found that i have an extra 8gb microsd laying around (which also happened to be a better, class 6 one too). so i cleared it off and copied over alllll the files to it. booted up. STILL NO GO.
anyone have any ideas here? i'm really running out of ideas here.
when i boot, everything runs great, but all my apps that are installed to sd are gone. also it never says "preparing sd card" in the status bar when booting. then if i go to manage applications it never finishes "computing" the size of apps. if i go to "on sd" it shows all my apps, but says computing, and i can't access them, uninstall them, move them, etc. i'm totally out of ideas here and i really don't want to have to do a system restore.
anyone?
think im having the same problem . has ur market gone too?
fix?
ok so i ended up getting mine fixed using these steps that someone from a company that makes an apps2sd app sent me... the only difference i had to do was since my phone also wouldn't recognize my pc, i had to pop the sd card into my pc directly to delete the .android_secure folder... i don't want to mess up your phone or anything so make sure to read around a bit more before trying this, but this is what worked for me. after i started adding all my apps back one by one i've been fine ever since.:
"I guess the problem is ".android_secure" is not recognized by Android.
Would you try the following steps (I am not sure if it works)?
1. mount phone with PC
2. backup all files under .android_secure
3. delete .android_secure directory
4. unmount
5. try to move an app (any app) to SD card (it forces Android to
create .android_secure on SD)
6. mount phone with PC
7. restore all backuped .android_secure/* files to .android_secure
8. unmount => check if it recognized the apps that you moved to the SD card"

[Q] Deleting old app data

Hi there.
I've used two RUU in the last year on my DHD. After a phone restart, I go straight to the Marketplace to redownload the apps I had before using the RUU.
Some of the apps don't automatically download, and I can't remember them all so there's probably some old applications and associated data on there.
The SD card is getting full so I was wondering if there was an app out there I could use to remove all app data except that of apps which are currently installed.
I'm running a stock DHD on the latest 2.3.5 ROM with Sense 3.0.
Thanks for your help!
Easiest way I find personally...
Back up your contact list, photos, music, ring tones and the settings files on the main programs you can remember - Even better, use the HTC program
Format the card.
Plug it into the phone and let it load it's file system and then make a back up of that on your PC for future use. Just remember to back up your new contacts, photos etc...
Go to recovery or 4ext / CWM and delete Dalvik
EDIT: Later you can delete them one by one those which you don't use
I think SD maid can do that... I've heard it works pretty good.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
On SD card there is directory called \Android\. There are apps data.

Best and safest way.
I got a question about filesystem on SD card.
If you format it ext4 - how is it speed-wise? Actually what are main advantages?
And can windows7 then normally recognize "disk drive"?

Continuously getting "choose an action"

Had the phone maybe a week and whenever I'm surfing the Web (regular Internet not on chrome or anything) I'm constantly getting the pop-up for "choose an action" and the phone then plays a "default.wav" file if I select the music player or downloads it if I select downloads.
I've searched the forums on here as well as googled it and can't find anyone having this issue.
Anyone have an idea?
screen shot please
The system first prompts me to "choose an action" with the options of Android system or downloads. Obviously if I choose downloads the system will just download the .wav file. If I choose android system I then get prompted to choose an action again with the options of Google play music or sound player. Either of the two will simply play the .wav file. Once I choose one of the two I continually get prompted to again choose an action only this time it's a choice between the sound player (or Google play music if I chose that one) and downloads.

thats normal. just regular old tw. hit always and you wont see it ask you again until you add a new app that can also open the file.
Well the problem is I've already hit always... I've also cleared the defaults a few times and gone through the process of doing it again and as I usually do selecting always. But then it still continues to prompt me to choose an action between music player or downloads. This started happening from the get go as soon as I got the phone and before installing any apps.
i think it just does this. also if you hit always then go and clear defaults that gets rid of what you just did
I only tried clearing the defaults after it continually kept asking me to choose an action. Thought that might stop the system from constantly asking me to choose an action. But that didn't work.
I called Samsung who had me do a hard reset of the phone. Before installing anything onto the phone I was still getting the continuous pop up asking me to choose an action even after selecting the "always" option when given the choice between "always" and just once.
So I took the phone back to Verizon and they gave me a new one. Before installaing anything onto the phone I started getting the same thing all over again. Theres nothing installed on the phone but what comes with the phone from Verizon. No one else is having this issue?
The only thing I can think of is that my SD card has been used in 2 other phones prior to this. Perhaps there is something on the SD causing an issue, in which case I should simply remove everything from the SD card I want to keep (music and pictures/videos) and put it onto a PC. Then format the SD card and then hard reboot the phone.

I've actually had this exact same issue with both my Verizon Note 3, and now again on my Verizon Note 4.
No matter how many times I select "always", it always still asks me.
Any solution to this?

Ive done a couple factory resets. Samsung also had me do a "hard reset" which did not solve the problem. The only thing I can think of is that my SD card has something on it which is causing it. I have returned my original Note 4 to Verizon and the 2nd Note 4 is also doing the same thing. So the common denominator is my SD card.
As a point of clarification, the phone continually asks me to choose an action and wants to either play or download a file titled "default.wav".

That is precisely what I did this morning. Copied everything over to a pc and then formatted the SD card with the phone and then did a factory reset. Before adding any files back to the SD card immediately started having the same problem again. And no apps or anything were installed on the phone yet.
To rule out the SD Card....does it do it with no SD Card installed?

Ringtones & Notifications sounds not appering on Lg G3

Hello,
I had a problem with my SD card, and had to format it. I copied everything in my laptop, format it and then copied everything back.
After that, any of my photos from the SD was not showing in the Gallery. After a quick google search, I installed media.Re.Scan , scanned whit it, and all my picture is now showing in Gallery.
Another thing I did was to clear cache in MediaStorage app. And I think that was the trigger.
After that default ringtones and notifications sounds was not showing in phone menu.
The only sounds remaining was a few from Hangout.
I try to restart, Safe Mode, uninstall media.Re.Scan ... nothing worked.
Please, any advice on what tot do, before I do a factory reset, as a last solution.
Thanks
SOLVED
Well, solved it.
Music app was set as default for audio files view. Cleared that and restarted the phone. And everything is in place now.
Hope this helps.
