[Q] Cyanogenmod + Facebook - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello guys,
First day on the forum, and I've actually been using the forum for a really long time without actually registering. For the first time ever, I've actually encountered a problem that does not already have a solution I can apply.
I just flashed cyanogenmod on my phone, after a really long time of rooting and not actually doing much with the root. I really need to have facebook sync into my contacts because I never really add people into my contacts, I just add them on facebook, and then I get their number and email, so all contact information is stored neatly and organized. Now that I have cyanogenmod I find it hard (impossible) to sync my contacts into my phone. I downloaded the app, and I then added the account into the accounts section in the settings. I waited for the sync then looked into my contacts and I could not find any contacts from my facebook.
I am using cyanogenmod 11.0 on my SGS3 Sprint, really hope someone can help me, thank you.

Sync ONE GROUP of contacts only with android (HTC Desire)

Hi,
I recently purchased a HTC Desire Android phone and I'm looking for a way to keep a simple, basic contact list updated and synched with my Gmail account.
The problem with the default way on my phone is that it will sync every contact on my Gmail. This is a problem as I only want to have contacts from my phone book synched to one gmail group and vice versa. There is an option to "disply only contacts with numbers" but I still don't like the idea of having every contact on the phone. There is also the problem of the extra empty groups I won't be using, can these be gotten rid of?
I basically just want one list and it to be my default list with all contacts and not have to go through an array of menus to get to that one list on the phone. I don't want that list to be populated by contacts who I may have only emailed once and will never email again. I don't want any gimmicks in between, no gtalk contacts, no facebook contacts, no default gmail contacts and I want to be able to then export this group to a CSV file to use with spreadsheets etc.
This seems to be possible on Android stock and even on HTC Hero Sense UI according to here: androidheadlines.com/2010/04/tidy-up-your-contact-list-with-a-custom-sync-group.html
but in the Desire Sense UI, when you go to people/groups/menu, it only gives the option to delete or add.
Seems this guy is having the same issue, he has the sync group option but his friend doesn't, both using the same phone
androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/47533-no-sync-groups-option.html
There are reports from this thread that some users have had this same problem. Some have a "Sync Groups" option when they go to People>Group Tab and click menu, most don't have this option however and I'm yet to hear from a desire user with this option. Also from this thread (google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=0ff2b08f98943ccb&hl=en) one user reported that a "hard reset" gave him the "Sync Group" option. I tried this but had no luck, still the same menu as before.
I've been trying to sort this for days and have asked on multiple forums. Hopefully somebody here can help and I'd appreciate any feedback at all!
If anyone has any idea please share, I've posted this on 5 different websites to try and get it resolved but still no luck. Would it even be possible to use the android "contacts" app as opposed to the HTC DESIRE "people" app at all? I still have my sim card in my old phone until I sort this out and need the phone for work so would really appreciate any help!
If you use exchange to sync your google contacts it will just sync my contacts and not all contacts
Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried exchange yet. Is that a separate system to Google or what is it? How does it have access to Google?
I actually want another group I've made, not "My Contacts" synched witht he phone. Would this still be possible with exchange?
No need for all that.
Go to HTCs program "PEOPLE". Press the hard menu button. Press the soft VIEW menu. Click "only contacts with phone numbers".
Your welcome !
Thanks PauloJ5, I know of that option already but it's still not suitable for my needs. I need the "Sync Group" option that's available on other android and HTC sense systems unfortunately and it just doesn't appear to come on the Desire system
Just a quick, hopeful bump
So according to this thread: http://android.modaco.com/content-page/305926/htc-desire-root-update/page/120/#entry1253966 it seems the MoDaCo founder has rooted the Desire. I wonder will this help at all in being able to resolve this issue?
In the sync options in Android, there is an option for exchange sync. Google servers support exchange sync, so you can add your google account. In the options, put in your google email as username, along with your password. Put m.google.com as server.
I would then disable google contact synchronization, and enable exchange contact sync. You might want to delete all the google contacts on your phone that have been previously stored to get rid of them (use the view option in the people manager to select just these). Not sure what this will do to your google contacts on the servers so I would back them up first (use export in google contacts on the web). Then do an exchange sync.
This will just sync your "my contacts" and not "all contacts". It won't let you sync specific groups.
Thanks again sawfoot, but if it can only sync mycontacts and not other specific groups I choose then it's not a solution for me unfortunately
It's just funny that the solution I need has been on other versions of Sense UI and also on the Android Stock but they seemed to have taken the most important function for me away from the phone I decided to go with
Just thought I'd give this another quick bump since the Root method and instructions for the desire have now been released. Perhaps a solution can be had
Just thought I'd give this another hopeful bump in the off chance of somebody who may have solved the issue on the desire (now that it's been rooted) seeing it I'm still waiting on HTC to get back to me too!
So with the extensive help of partyatmygaff over msn, I was able to root my desire and I finally got the contacts app working on it! I saved the chat transcript as it may be helpful for anyone else wanting to install from Windows XP. This is an ultra dumbed down version. I made sure to ask as many questions as possible, even if I was 99% sure of the answer myself
Some of the files were sent to me over msn like the market enabler etc, but these should be easily found online anyway. Also, the program I use for the commant prompt is called "command prompt here" I think, but you can just type in the address of the folder in DOS if you know how anyway!
You can see the transcript here: http://www.vantasks.ie/xpdesireroot.html
There is a good bit of filler, but it really covers absolutely everything you need to know so once you get to the bottom of the page, your desire should be rooted and ready to go
So I got the contacts sync thing working anyway, I can now sync with my chosen group from Gmail, but I can't believe it, if I have this group selected and I save a new contact, it wont save to that group, but just the "all contacts" group even though that's not selected
Always something! The guy in post 10 here: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f9/add-or-edit-contact-groups-12668/ seems to have got it going, but as you can see in my reply, post 11, it's not saving to the desired group for me!

Merge linked contacts permanently?

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows if you can merge together google contacts you've linked together using your desire. So the contacts would be merged in gmail and not just on my phone.
I've searched and haven't found anyone even raise the issue, so I was hoping someone knew if you could do this and if so how?
Thanks for any help.
No luck here either, it drives me crazy that I have contacts for people in 5 different places and I'm too lazy to manually merge them. The damn thing should just automerge and sync them all to google.
Thanks for your response,
I'd wrongly assumed there must be an option to sync the merges back to Google, as like you say that's what it should do, at least now I know to give up looking for the option, cheers.
And unfortunately I'm to lazy to do it manually too (took me long enough to do on the phone)
Once you sync contacts so long as you sync with Outlook/Google it should keep the links. Might take a while at first but once done it should be permanent
Yea I understand that, but I would have liked them to be merged if I looked at the contacts through Gmail on a computer, or if I updated to Froyo without Sense.
So rather than just keep the links, actually merge the contacts, for if I using something other than an HTC phone with Sense.

Exactly, I use multiple devices and I want all my contacts centralized and not duplicated.
Ahhh, got ya! So it'd have the info without linking to Facebook you mean?
Suppose you could just update the contact with all info you want on it and sync this with your devices...
Could try using Thunderbird as your pc email client (it has a duplicate contact add on) and something like Zindus to sync with gmail. This way you use your pc to sort your contacts and then sync to gmail, and then gmail to your phone. I've found this to work as long as you keep all of the contacts on Thunderbird under the default group (I created a group/email list and have spent the last two days working out why everyone in the group had disappeared from my phone:|)

Yea so for example, because some of my contacts are quite old, they were set up when you could only have one number with a contact so for some i have:
x mobile
x home
x work
so as HTC made it relatively easy I decided to merge these all into one contact.
Likewise for a lot of them I had email addresses stored on my gmail account, and HTC made it relatively easy to link these the email to a contact.
So I now have a set of nicely constructed contacts on my phone, but multiple entries for them in my google account, so would have liked an option to just make the links a permanent merge.
And yea I know I can do this manually, but it took long enough to do this on my phone in the first place, and as I've already said I'm too lazy to do it again. This thread wasn't meant to me moaning, just checking to see if there was a merger option or trick I was missing.
Edit: Thanks Iain I'll have a look at that when I have some spare time
Lol, I know it wasn't a moaning thread - don't think there is the option at the moment. TBH I bite the bullet and have a good prune session every now and then and get Outlook fully up to date and sync off that. I don't sync with Google
Damn, I loved the contact merging on my HTC Diamond, gmail was always up-to-date. Why the hell is HTC not doing the same on Android but just linking.... It looks good on the phone but is a mess in gmail...
If you have multiple Google contacts it's pretty easy to merge them online:
http://mail.google.com/mail/contacts/ui/ContactManager
(have to be logged into gmail to access it )
THX for that hint. But what I loved in TouchFlo was that my gmail conacts got automatically updated with info from Facebook, like the birthdays for example which then also showed up in the Google Calendar. Or when somebody changed mail adress or phonenumber, via TouchFlo these were automatically propagated to the Gogle Contacts.
Think this a FB issue, know they recently changed API access to prevent apps pulling down Birthdays automatically and saving of phone numbers has always been a no no for any apps.
Droid gets around this by preventing saving the number permanently or amending on the device.
Old thread I know, but I was looking to do this and solved it.
-Export your address book on the phone to vcard.
-Email yourself this file. (You may need astro to find it. I used k9 mail and astro)
-Save this file on your PC.
-Goto your google contacts list on your PC.
-Import a vcard. Direct it to this file.
-Google automagically merges the contacts for you.
The unfortunate part is that you still have to manually delete the contacts that were on your phone, but at least everything is in the cloud now. You could just blow away your contacts entirely and resync.

Thanks, I'll try this later. It's still a problem that's bugging me to death. I keep getting returned 5 or 6 of the same number for a contact. Hopefully this will help.

Bit of a necromance but ran into this issue with my Desire HD.
Thanks for the solution, can't believe there's not a better way....
I have all my contacts in Gmail. All their numbers and email addresses are in there.
So whenever I edit a contact, it's edited in Gmail. It's pretty much all 'in the cloud'.
I use Outlook categories to keep my contacts clean and manageable. For syncing I am currently using MyPhoneExplorer after coming to grief with HTC Sync.
I've done some research now.
I found the app in the market called: GO contacts
this app can export ALL your contacts, also the ones that your HTC or android found with syncing with facebook, hyves, twitter, whatsapp, linkedin etc.
exported and imported in my gmail, so I have all the contacts in my gmail.
If they now remove their phone number (from facebook in example)
I still have it

Can't sync contacts, no contact app?

Hi guys,
I have an unlocked Desire that I bought from ebay. I can't be certain if it's been factory unlocked or if someone along the way unlocked it. Regardless, it's not rooted, so it would have had to have been using an unlock code?
Anyway the issue that I have is that I can't sync my contacts. Most of my contacts have no phone numbers associated, except for a few which I guess it may have grabbed from FB, or ones that were on my SIM? My prev phone was a Magic, I never had this issue with it.
Either way, I have plenty of contacts that I can view through gmail that have numbers associated, that don't have them on my phone.
I also only have the people app, not the standard contacts app from google that should let me sync. Is that normal on the Sense run Desire? If so, how do I sync my contacts? I've been through accounts/sync and of course am signed in to my google account, so I don't know what the deal is?
Is there an issue, or am I just not syncing correctly? Is it some settings in my google account that I need to adjust online?
Thanks for any assistance guys.
*EDIT* so in the 30 seconds since I posted this, I signed out of my FB app, and back in, and then suddenly my google account started syncing and BLAM, there they are. Mods, please delete?

[Q] Contact's pictures keep changing

I am currently running UKB V 3.6 and lately my contact's photos keep changing. For some reason, one minute they will show the actual photo (synced in from Facebook - or Google...not sure which one at this point) and a little while later a photo of someone random from my Facebook friends replaces the right photo.
I have Facebook set to sync only with existing contacts. My contacts currently read all Gmail and none in the phone (and Facebook is unchecked). What is interesting is that I remember all of my contacts were in the phone when I bought it (from Verizon transferring the contacts for me about a year ago). I have also experienced this phenomenon when I both check and uncheck the "sync and backup Google account" in the ROM setup.
Does anyone have this happening to them and do they know of a solution? I can't say I have had this happen to me on any other ROM. I didn't want to put this question in UKB's thread in the event it isn't the ROM. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I just opened up a contact with the picture problem and found that the phone is linking multiple accounts...even though it never asked me to link them.
So after going back to a Skyraider nandroid, my phone synced and ruined my pristine contacts. So I restored the SRZeus backup and exported my contacts to the sd card and imported them into the ukb backup to get back the contacts that Google/Facebook thought I didn't need because it couldn't link them to Facebook. :banghead:

[Q] Google account (only calendar) won't sync with Lollipop G3

Hey guys, hope all your day is all great!
I have a bit of an issue with google calendar. I log into my Google account as per normal on Lollipop and everything syncs fine, except my calendar. I can get back into the account settings and i look through everything that i can sync, and calendar just doesn't show up. I have had this problem on a couple Lollipop ROMS, and i fixed it last time, but i can't for the life of me remember how. I've been trying to figure out this for a few days now, and I'm stumped even after all my research. I could be missing something so simple. But I have done the basics, remove the account, put it in again, put in two accounts, (seconds account wont work with calendar either) . The works.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks,
Brad
bump anyone?
