[Q] s3 boots to home screen but flashes continually then eventually restarts - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok so prior to getting the AT&T s3 i747 I had a s2 i727 and on two occasions I cracked the screen and/or LCD and just purchased a broken s2 (water damage..etc) off ebay and then put my motherboard in a new shell basically. I’m attempting to do that now with the s3. The seller on ebay said he was told it was an issue with the motherboard but the screen and lcd were good. I tested it when it first got here and it would not turn on at all. Now that I have switched the motherboards around it will turn on. It goes through the logo screens and starts up fine EXCEPT the screen continually flashes and after a few minutes will restart itself. I messed with the power button but I don’t think that is the problem. When I turn it off and charge it with my battery it does exactly what it should but when I do the same with the battery that was sent with it the battery display flashes on off on off and it pretty much won’t keep the charger connection going. Every time I google it or read a forum its ppl who can’t get past the Samsung screen and I’m having no luck getting answers. So if anyone knows whether this is a screen/lcd/digitizer issue or something internal please help me so I can return the phone before it’s too late! Thanks
Oh and I can boot into download mode but not into recovery mode and I have already reflashed using odin which seemed to be successful..it said pass

Can't turn phone on to restore before sending in

Hi everybody. To start off, I guess I'll give the specs of my phone..
It is (obviously) a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I purchased it through a local carrier in Iowa (iWireless), and I am pretty sure it's a GSM model. I'm running JRO03C, JellyBean 4.1.1 through this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738197. I have my phone rooted and the bootloader unlocked.
Now to get to the problem at hand.
Yesterday, I purchased a screen protector for my phone (one of those invisibleShields from ZAGG) and applied it when I got home. After finishing applying it (which required me to turn my phone off) I had trouble starting up my phone. The power button did not seem to be responding well. I eventually got it on, and the screen would no longer lock on command. Luckily, I have this mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739467 so I can use the volume rocker to wake it or the lock button from the notification bar.
Even so, I have no way to turn my phone back on.
So, I decided I would take my phone in and see if I can get it replaced. First of course, I wanted to make sure everything was stock. So I try to flash the stock image of 4.0.4. In the process, the Galaxy Nexus toolkit stopped and would just hang, saying [waiting for device]. So I stupidly shut my phone off, forgetting I will have trouble booting into Fastboot. Now my phone is off, and I have spent the past half hour trying to turn it on just so I can flash the stock image and lock the bootloader.
I don't want the manufacturer to decide I voided my warranty, and now I'm unable to get my phone replaced. That would be terrible, this phone costs $700 dollars through my carrier! (I got it for free through some sweet deals last month. Part of it included a mail-in rebate, so I had to send in the UPC code on the back of my phone's box; does that mean I all ready voided my warranty?)
Can anyone help me? I need to turn my phone back on, or at least be able to restore everything to stock. Holding the power button on and off constantly doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere.
Thanks!
First of all, you should have left the phone off with the battery out for a few hours so the liquid can clear up inside. leave it overnight and if youre lucky it might be working fine the next morning
Well, the problem is that I didn't immediately realize that I/we (my friend who had apparently applied dozens of screen protectors in the past) had caused water damage to my phone because once we got it working, it continued to work. So, we left and went about the rest of the evening, (It had stopped working on the drive out of town, at which point we removed the battery and tried to let it dry out in the hot car as we drove) watched a movie... It worked fine... But then. Yeah, over night it stopped working.
I just hope it works tomorrow I guess.
If the phone battery is charged, is there any way I can adb shell into it while it's connected to my computer, or does it have to be completely powered on?

Phone doesn't turn on (100% factory)

Hello, I've been lurking around this forum for awhile and this is my 1st post! I've used the search feature and many other websites for my problems but cannot find anything similar =[.
My phone is 100% factory and the battery energy was around 80% at the time of incident, what happened was I received a text message but didn't check up on my phone till 30minutes later where then I pressed the home button to turn the screen on but the screen didnt power on but the phone's audible volume was working and the other 2 keys next to the home button lit up. I could click around my phone and function everything properly with no visual image to the screen (I even started my music player). I got frustrated so I attempted to soft reset it multiple ways and problem still persisted, I then decided to leave the battery out overnight to see if it would fix things, I did so and the same problem persisted, so I decided to plug it into the original usb wall charger and when I did i left the room, came back 10 minutes later tried turning it on and it doesn't even power up any more. Anyone have any ideas? The phone doesn't even turn on while plugged into the wall charger. (I do remember something about a phone update on my notifications list)
I had dropped the phone 2 months ago and the screen cracked but functioned normally and I'm afraid that I will not be able to claim warranty because they will blame the cracks.
Factory reset the device by booting into recovery.
If the screen will not function in recovery mode, or after boot. ...it's not good.
The digitizer may be toast. ..g

sounds like the drop has caught up to the device. as the post above if it doesnt work in recovery the digitizer is TOAST
why would the digitizer be toast if it logged my screen touches while the screen went dead before not being able to power on? I cannot get into recovery mode mode because the phone will not even turn on =[.
bump... can anyone help?
Sounds like the phone is gone if it won't even show charging or any kind of screen. Is there any flicker or anything?

I don't think they will, you're probably gonna have to eat this one.

Agreed. ..
You could try. ..but they will likely reject warranty and offer a repair. ..
Or offer a refurbished device at a reduced price. ..imho...g
If u bought warranty you can eat the cost of deductible. They have open enrollment til May 30th I think. I am not sure what the requirements are.

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S3 Power Issues

I have a Sprint Galaxy S3, and it randomly started turning off on its own. When trying to turn it back on, most of the time it won't make it past the 'Samsung' logo before it shuts back down. If you click the power button repeatedly, it will turn on to the home screen, but it will only stay on for a few minutes maximum. The phone is completely stock, NOT rooted or modified at all. I thought it was a battery or charger issue, so I bought two new batteries and a new charger, and the same problem persists. I also did a factory reset on it, and it didn't fix the problem. Also if you plug it into the charger, it displays an empty battery logo for a split second, then it disappears. If you let it charge for a few hours, the normal green battery logo will appear, but the problem still persists. I keep it in an otterbox and have never dropped it, and there is no water damage to it. Any ideas on how to fix it or what is going on?
Sounds like the sds / sudden death syndrome... It's a known issue with the gs3. The power button will get stuck and cycle itself on and off.
Their is a way to fix it yourself but much easier to just give it to sprint and get another one.

I just downloaded the Brickbug Check app to see if that's the problem, and the test said that my phone is not being affected by sds. Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know if Sprint replaces this phone for free even after warranty period, due to SDS issue?

They might. You never know till you try. I've had Techs help me to get a replacement, even out of warranty. But that was a while ago. You could always try to contact Samsung.

Sudden Death Troubleshooting

Hello, my galaxy s3 died one day last year and I haven't been able to resurrect it since..inserting battery results in a vibration, samsung logo, then it dies until I pull the battery again. Today I had the sudden urge to try fixing it and got different results than I had previously. I cleaned a bunch of lint from the charging port and am now able to get a short red light flash when the phone is plugged in, followed by a vibration, then the battery charging logo, then death once again. Randomly I'll get the cyanogenmod bootup screen when repeating this cycle but for no longer than a second or two before the phone dies again. I've disassembled the phone and cleaned as much dust and crap as possible to no avail. Any recommendations? Could the power button be frozen? My samsung infuse had a stuck power button and would boot loop but my S3 doesn't seem to be boot looping. Just turning on then dying until I fiddle with the power button again.
I want to rule out sudden death...
I had a sudden death on a note 2.
Download a good compatible (with your baseband) ROM.
Fool with the phone. Like really. Keep trying to turn it on, try recovery mode. I fixed one of these. It wasn't quite the same but I still have it. And it works. If the screen wasn't cracked to hell I'd be on it.
Another option may be trying a debrick image on an external sdcard. You should use one based on the same modem and baseband installed on the phone when it last worked.

Possible broken Power IC? Bricked phone? Assistance needed.

Hi everyone, I am looking to troubleshoot my T-Mobile Galaxy S4 which I believe has suffered from a Power IC malfunction. It has all the symptoms that relate to a broken power button, which of I already sent in for repair and that didn't seem to fix the problem. The guy installed a brand new power button and the problem still persists. Continued researching and it might be a broken Power IC chip.
The phone will power on for a second and display the Samsung logo, then shut off and reboot itself and sometimes be in a constant vibration cycle like it's trying to power on. Sometimes it just freezes on the Samsung logo and will not continue past that. Sometimes if I'm lucky, it will boot up like normal but once it gets to the T-Mobile splash screen, the screen will distort and then reboot itself where it will just go through either of the symptoms already mentioned. Weird thing is, I am still able to boot into recovery (takes a couple tries though) and download mode fine without any reboots or anything. I have tried flashing numerous stock firmwares/ROMs via download mode/recovery in hope maybe that'll correct something, but to no avail.
The problem happened shortly after I accidentally dropped my phone getting out of the car. The phone worked fine for a day and then one day while driving, the phone did something crazy and froze up, displayed the power menu, and then shut off by itself. Then after that is when all the problems happened. I took the phone apart and cleaned the power button. Rubbed the contacts with rubbing alcohol and even tried to get inside the power button with some. Took a can of air and sprayed the button until it was dry. I think that was my mistake because I think some alcohol got onto, or into the power IC located near the power button and fried something.
Looking for possible answers as to what could have caused this. The phone will not charge normally unless I boot into recovery/download mode. Plugging the phone in while powered off displays the charging icon with the grey battery and a circle in the middle but doesn't continue past that and reboots itself after a while. Tried a different battery as well and it's all the same symptoms which is why it's something internally.
On a side note, if anybody has experience with replacing the Power IC and would like to offer their service to me, we can arrange a price and continue from there. Please be a reputable member though. Thanks for reading. Hope to resolve this annoying issue.
If you are able to go into recovery mode, have you maybe considered flashing a new ROM?
Do you have some sort of custom recovery? If yes, maybe you could first back up all your stuff to an SD card (in case nothing helps bring the phone back to life).
Since your boot up logo shows up, but the ROM doesn't seem to start, to me it looks like your onboard flash memory might be the problem, not the power IC. The S4 is actually an awesome phone from a repairability standpoint.
Best of Luck! :good:
I will be starting to do power IC replacements in these phone in a couple weeks actually! I have a little cell repair business that i started a few months ago, but I have never done this specific repair. It isn't difficult, and as soon as I have a few successful attempts under my belt I will update you! Although, usually the phone won't boot at all if it has a bad power IC. I would do more research and see what can cause your specific problem. Feel free to message me or just reply on here with questions

Hi Deke. Sorry for not replying sooner. Kind of forgot about this thread after giving up on trying to fix it. But if you are willing to repair it in the future please let me know! I'll give you some business for your repair shop. Congrats on starting one too .
As for the phone not powering on at all if the problem was the power IC, that's what I thought at first too. But after getting a new power button installed and the problem still persisted, the power IC was the next option.
