Need Help Troubleshooting - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Okay, so here is my issue. I returned to stock, downloaded network update, it rebooted my phone, and did the update. Phone went to reboot again, and was hung up on the "Samsung Galaxy Note II" screen. After about an half an hour I pulled the battery, and tried to reboot. Same thing. I rebooted into Download mode and flashed the stock .tar file as described in this thread. The Odin flash goes great and the phone reboots when it is done. Then it just sits on the Samsung Galaxy Note II" screen. Never goes past it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this working? Any help is much appreciated. I have tried to search the forums for an answer, but I could not find anything that matched my issue.

Return to which stock ??
Have you seen this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447

As of know, any stock would be better then what I have. I would like to return to the stock rom that came with the phone. I believe it is the J2 one. I am going to try that thread that you mentioned, and see if I can get anywhere. If that does not work, I think I might this thread here. Thanks for the reply...

Sounds good. The first link should do you. The J2 will be the 4.1.1. Following the guide you can OTA to 4.1.2.
Holler if you need help.
EDIT:::: I just did the ODIN to LJ2, booted perfectly. OTA to MH3 4.1.2 worked great.
This step is mandatory !!
There a step that need to be done to get the install to complete successfully for the i317UCAMH3 OTA.
- Download from http://d-h.st/CDK
I317UCUBMK6-TZ-PARAM.zip
- Extract the .zip file to get to I317UCUBMK6-TZ.tar.md5
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode.
Entering download mode is very simple. First you will need to turn off your device. Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button. Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up. Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Open ODIN and place the I317UCUBMK6-TZ.tar.md5 file in PDA and flash.
Phone will now boot into i317UCAMH3.

So I guess the issue was that I went from 4.3 to 4.1.1, and my phone didn't like it. Flashed the prama and tz file. It rebooted and went straight into 4.1.1 with no issues... Thanks

Odin Mode?

Hi I have a purely stock intl Galaxy Nexus, I believe it is the Yakajxw version. This morning I went to my messages app and it loaded up the Flickr App instead. When I hit back it constanly went to some other app. So I powered down my phone and powered it back up and now its in Oden Mode showing a "Downloading.. Do not turn of target!!"
Is this a simple update and Im fine or is it somehow 'bricked'? Any way of fixing this? I have no knowledge of android phones and its a very important weekend for me, cant go without the phone!!
Thanks!
Mine did this once also. Use your volume controls until it says start. Then press the power button. Booted up just fine for me.
I'm also completely stock, unrooted, locked boot loader. I haven't had the desire to mod yet. I was on WP7 for 18 months and just recently came back to Android. I'm enjoying the stock experience so far. Modifications will come soon enough.

ODIN is a method of flashing factory images.
It really isn't downloading anything (not exactly sure why it would say that...dumb.)
You PROBABLY held volume- while booting.
This will put you in odin.
You can just boot up...you haven't changed/hurt anything.

If it's taking you directly to that screen, your bootloader got corrupt somehow. Follow the instructions in this thread to re-set-up your device.

I believe that it is called download mode because that is what it is doing: odin downloads the partition images to the device.

[Q] Stuck on boot after unroot

Sorry for posting a new thread but I want to make sure I am heading in the right direction. I bought a Galaxy S3 yesterday that was rooted. I want to put it back to stock ROM. I downloaded Odin and the ATT Stock ROM's. Everything went ok and passed without fail, but my phone is stuck on boot. Googling around I found a how to where I could run CWM Recovery, but it seems like this is for rooted devices stuck at boot. I am looking to go back to stock. Will this work or is there something else I am missing? Thanks and I will begin searching on the forum for help.
Edit: My phone does go into dowload mode.

Heres how to restore to stock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmqJbZqOaU
If you wanna root it again like a boss heres the link for that too:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoEVDgjTTdg
Great. Thanks for that link. I actually found that video and was looking for the drivers. I noticed the one he linked if for Sprint. My phone is ATT though. I clicked on the ATT link a little further down in his description where it says AT&T USA. I am assuming this is the correct file to install right? Now is that the TAR file or the drivers? He didnt post an AT&T link for one of those.

It wont let me get into factory reset either. I hold power up, power and home and it goes to...
Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. I cant get into Kies because Kies doesnt connect to the device
Ok I followed QBkings video and everything worked fine and passed but I am still stuck on the Samsung screen. I know he mentioned factory reset but he did it once he was already into the actual phone. Mine wont get in.
You guys are all beasts! Thanks a million for the help. Factory reset finally worked! My phone didnt reset by itself though.
Well I see you must have been able to fix your phone!
It must be like the Atrix 2, but instead of FXZ restoration w/ RSD Lite, you use TAR files and Odin

Boot into recovery. Vol up + home + power. When your device vibrates and you see the blue text in the top left corner of the screen, release just the power button.
Wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache

[Q] s3 wont boot back to regular

Two weeks ago I wanted to unroot my sprint s3 , and I hit YouTube in search of a how to video. So the one I found was the qbking "how to unroot/unbrick your sprint s3" so I followed the steps of loading the .tar file in Odin and then after 10 min it said pass/complete in Odin . The phone restarted as it said it would then it went through the normal steps oh loading that little sprint boot video then right after that it gets stuck at the Samsung logo screen with the little blue light blinking at the top and nothing else. The difference from the video and my phone is that in the video the "back arrow" and "menu" buttons are lit at the bottom of the phone where mine has nothing lit. Please if anyone could help I would appreciate it, thanks.

If you can't get anything to work at all and you can't get into recovery or download mode you bricked your phone. Sounds like you downloaded a wrong file or something. Look up JTAG in Google to fix your phone. Care to share what file you used in Odin.

If you can get into Download mode you should be able to use Odin to flash a full image or even a recovery to get things cleaned up.
There are some odin flashable images of the stock unrooted rom that you can try to load:
You could try this one if you want to essentially do a full reset of your phone (including your data and sdcard).
Or this one which will load the stock unrooted ROM but preserve your data.

[Q] Galaxy Note 2 i317 Won’t Boot After Update

Issue
1. Phone won’t boot beyond the Samsung Logo.
2. It won’t boot into recovery (download mode works).
3. Can flash rom using Odin but phone still won't boot.
Type of Phone
Type: AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Model: i317
Ownership: Bought in Nov 2012 brand new. Warranty is up but it is insured through AT&T.
History: Rooted and then un-rooted and returned to stock in January 2014.
Actions leading up to Issue
Updated to Samsung’s newest firmware Android 4.3 but didn’t like it. I rooted my phone and tried a custom rom but wasn’t happy. Un-rooted by flashing original stock rom via Odin 3.07. Worked great and I was back in business. But then the phone went through an update and never booted back up.
Detail
I’ve rooted all my other phones but never felt the need to root this one until I updated to Samsung’s new Android 4.3. I wasn’t happy with the decreased battery life and poor performance. So I used the method at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2004650 to root my phone using “root66_ATT_I317UCALJ2.tar.md5” with Odin 3.07 and it worked. I then tried a custom Cyanogen Mod rom but it still left something to be desired.
After more research I flashed the original stock rom “KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2_215287_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5” via Odin 3.07 and my phone worked beautifully, at least for a day. Then I started getting the AT&T update window for Android 4.3 and the only way to get rid of it was to pull my battery. It was happening so much that I couldn’t even make a phone call. Out of pure frustration I decided to accept the update.
After the update installed it rebooted and never made it past the Samsung logo. So I figured I would just go into recovery and perform a factory reset as well as wipe the cache. The problem here is that it won’t boot into recovery. Only download mode works. I’m also seeing a red LED which I’ve read is a sign of SDS.
I’ve tried re-flashing the original stock rom again. Every time I do I get the green “Pass” display but my phone still won’t boot. The binary count is now at 21 since I’ve tried flashing so many times. I’ve been working on this and researching for 3 weeks. I’ve never had an issue that I couldn’t resolve when it comes to any of my past phones but this is beyond my skill or understanding. I also tried Samsung keys but it says my device is not supported.
Short of digging a hole in my back yard and burying it, is there anything I can do to fix this?
(Note) My wife has the same phone and also didn’t like the update so I flashed the same original stock rom to her phone via Odin and it has been working just fine. Only difference is I never rooted hers. I should have gone that route with mine.
Have you tried flashing, via Odin, just a custom recovery?
If that works, you may be able to follow this guide, starting at post #2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618447
If that doesn't work, it is possible you have an emmc issue.... Your symptoms are similar to what others have reported here recently. You might be able to get a repair covered if you can get them to look past the custom counter ... You are running stock firmware... Maybe kies tripped the counter... Stranger things have happened...

Here's the link to TWRP (you want the Odin link toward the bottom):
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/124
Here's the direct link to the latest philz cwm (you want the md5 file):
http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/t0lteatt
I prefer philz, but you will likely need TWRP to follow the dicksteele guide. You should also track down a CWM flashable recovery package for MH3 recovery to flash back should you need to return the phone for repairs. You can get this by following the i317 link in my sig.
If flashing this in Odin doesn't work that would tend to support the emmc fail scenario. (i.e. you flash it, Odin behaves as if it flashed ok, you power off, attempt to boot recovery with home-VolUp-power and it still doesn't boot). If it does boot recovery, you can try the guide as I mentioned before. Good luck!

You flashed LJ2 Stock ROM from ODIN?
And you are back to the Samsung Logo that flashing/pulsing blue???
If so .....
Pull the battery and let the phone sit for a few seconds, pop the battery in and boot into stock recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER) and do a FACTORY RESET then reboot.
I had to do the same thing an hour ago....

I can't believed it worked. Flashed this and suddenly I have recovery. Then I re-flashed the original stock rom, did a reset and wiped the cache and I'm back up and running. Brilliant I say. Genius! Glad you're back among the living.
This will get you back to 4.1.2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49616718&postcount=2
EDIT:
I just did this and it worked perfectly .....
I'm actually doing that step right now also. I flashed back to stock testing the ATT update server.
EDIT #2:
At this step when the phone reboots the script will run. When it completes you want to boot to system. The next prompt will be do you want to install ROOT. If you do the swipe it will install ROOT, there is a DO NOT INSTALL button on the middle of the screen. Just a heads up, don't know if you are turning your phone back in or not now.
- Second step is:
You will need to download TWRP 2.6.3.1 and flash it in ODIN.
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/t0lt...lteatt.img.tar
This is necessary for an openrecovery script to run that is stored in the /cache directory from the update.
- Put your Note 2 in Download Mode.
- Open ODIN, put openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-t0lteatt.img.tar in PDA slot. Click Start and let the phone reset.
- Your phone will reboot in TWRP. If not, pull battery and enter recovery mode boot into TWRP recovery (HOLD VOL UP+HOME+POWER). The script will run by itself.
sgh-i317 EFS seems like its gone
could anybody help me out with my note 2. ive tried just about everything i can think of. im getting pretty desperate. i can get everything to work fine (recovery, download mode,) but something is keeping it from booting up to the main screen, it will just hand at the boot animation, or the att logo. in twrp it tells me failed to mount efs. ive looked around in the file folders and its like it got wiped out? im not sure how though. could that be why its not booting up?
any ideas??

Put the correct ROM on your external sd card with a PC adaptor. Install the card, boot into recovery, wipe system and data, then install the correct ROM. Boot, let rhe phone settle in for a few minutes, connect to wifi, or check if the correct ROM has the at&t APN settings.

Ranger is correct, try doing what he suggested.
But not really understanding what you have tried from your post.....
Which method, and what does fail to download?
Do you mean fail to get into download mode, and you only can get into recovery?
Are you doing this to get to download mode?
Put your Note 2 in Download Mode
-First you will need to turn off your device.
-Once it’s off, you need to press this button combination: volume down, power button and home button.
-Keep them pressed until the download mode shows up.
-Once you’re there, you will be required to press volume up to enter the download mode or volume down to cancel and reboot the device.
Obviously you want to press the volume up. Now you are ready to ODIN flash.

i will be sure to try this method whenever i get my hands on an SD card adaptor. What ROM would be best to download for the correct at&t APN settings? i would look but my past luck has been failure.
Thank you for your help

i would have tried ODIN for this situation but everytime i do. It says "FAILED" how would you suggest i fix this so that my phone can use ODIN. I was going from cyanogenMod to a custom ROM, but i assume i didnt flash the old ROM and now i kinda stuck in a bootloop like it'll show the samsung intro then show the customROM emblem stays there. I've left it in that state for a whole night and it didnt change (still showing the custom ROM emblem) the only thing i can do is enter TWRP v2.6.3.1 and access my external SD.

Sorry bout that. . just tried to connect my phone to ODIN in ODIN MODE. I'll update with what happened.
Just got done trying to flash with ODIN, and it got the part where it starts to install but 4 mins. in my device was removed. I was using the PDA from sammobile.com, and now my phone is saying "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." i know it might be as simple as actually doing what it says but Kies will not recognize my At&t samsung galaxy note II. What would u suggest to let my laptop recognize my device??

Thank you for your time helping me with my phone issue. I took the steps you suggested, now im running custom ROM jellybean 4.1.1. and got my service provider back. If you could suggest away to get my stock program and upgrade to jellybean 4.3. I had fun with the rooted life but i make the worst mistakes.
PS. i found it to be alot easier using the other tar. in the firmware u suggested me to use. At least for At&t Samsung Galaxy Note II

So i just flashed my at&t Samsung galaxy note II with jellybean 4.1.1 using Odin ( ATT_I317UCAMA4_I317ATTAMA4) and it was going on with everything working. Then i tried to update to jellybean 4.3 after it got done installing it rebooted, and what do u know, i'm stuck in boot loop the Samsung galaxy note 2 logo, and cant access recovery mode. Also I tried the original firmware that used repeatedly, would that hurt the system. Would there be any firmwares suggested to use.

yes it updated and installed but after it installed and rebooted its in
a constant boot loop. Is this going to be a simple permanent fix?
