Does this work for touch wiz?
It is only for CM based ROMs under KitKat
AOKP ROMS could or could not load
TW will not
For non working roms, you just have to ask someone to repack it with matching kernel zImage
This recovery is pretty awesome, flashed CM11, Vanir, & Commotio successfully.
My new default recovery. :]

What was your install method ? I'd like to try it . Did you just flash it with the cwm you already had ? Next question . After you install it and when you flash another rom does it get over written or can you reinject it each time ? thanks

Yes. & it does get overwritten, I just flash it after flashing the ROM / Gapps. No biggie though. Haven't found an option to make it stick after flashing a ROM like in TWRP.

I seem to be in a vicious cycle . Recovery flashes fine . When i reboot screen goes black after splash screen . Go back into recovery have to reflash rom but then reflash this and back to black screen on reboot . I don't get what the advantage is if you can't stick it and be able to boot . It would be great if it would stick and boot .

Did you ever get the right file? If not, let me know. I tried to flash it through Mobile Odin and it dosen't even see the files. The best bet is to boot into recovery, flash Philz, reboot into recovery, flash until tired.
Never did get philz_touch_6.19.3-d710.tar.md5 to work. The zip version flashed fine from StockCWM-EL26. I was hoping to get the tar.md5 to work so I could skip StockCWM-EL26.
Then I learned Philz doesn't work properly for nandroids, Since I need to use StockCWM-EL26 for nandroids anyway, the tar.md5 version of Philz is not needed.

OK. If your on stock, that should be TouchWiz. I would try to install AGAT's as a regular recovery. All the TW ROMs I flashed, had AGATs already installed. The only time I had to use EL26 or EL29 was to go to a different ROM. Have you tried his repository?
here ya go.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p... (SPH-D710VMUB)/Kernels/Stock (TW) Kernels/JB
CWM-EL26 has worked fine for me, so I haven't used Agat's, Doesn't matter since I don't keep anything installed. I flash a recovery, flash a rom, to see if things are working well enough to use. After not being able to get text or mms to work reliably, I go back to stock completely. GB28 everything.
If there was a custom recovery with a GB28 kernel, I'd keep that installed.

GB27 will work flawlessly on Virgin and Boost models
Still having a ton of problems with this recovery. It's the only one I can find that will flash the Liquid Smooth rom for me.
The backup/restore seems to be completely broken. Others have said to use another recovery for that. So I flash a recovery, reboot to that, then flash Philz, then flash KK rom.
Today I flashed Liquid Smooth, had some problems with it so decide to restore a backup. I booted into Philz, used it's convenient "wipe for new rom" to make sure everything was clean for restore. Then I needed to flash the recovery I used to make my backup, but when I tried to do that I just got an error 7. I tried flashing different recoveries, roms, modems. All gave errors.
Saw a tip suggesting to untick the "Don't allow old update-binary " option, but that didn't fix it.
Had to hook it up to the computer and flash a recovery using odin.

I'm on Caulk's 2.9. but, naturally I have the ICS itch. Reading up on install steps, I should be installing Rogue kernel/recovery -> CM9 -> Gapps. The question is though, if I'm following the steps in Rogue install, when I get to the steps to update profile and PRL, is it going to bork because I'm still on Caulk's rom?
Actually, it looks like the CM9 specific recovery download only includes the recovery. This should be fine.
Nix that, the recovery looks for a build prop version 4.0.3,0 so that's out. I tried flashing the ROM, but that too is giving me build prop prop issues. Fuuuu. Any ideas?

you need a stock recovery on your phone first to properly flash cm9
either download miui or cm7, reboot, then go to recovery and follow the directions on installing it
you can't install it properly with a custom recovery at this point, or, at least, no one has reported that they are able to
So Kernel > Rom > Gapps > Factory Reset (For calendar sync) > reboot all good?+
If I odin the kernel, its goes on PDA right?

NOT true...
you flash the rom and gaps only FIRST..
make sure everything works, then add a custom kernel...
and, make sure you are on a stock cm type kernel when you flash it, like what you get from MIUI or cm7, or it won't work

C9 3.1 doesn't give clockwork so odin. The kernel goes on pda like the roms right?
I don't use Odin, I have OSX at home, so I use heimdall, and I don't want to give you bad info on Odin..there are lots of posts here about that though, so it will be easy to confirm for you
But, the bottom line is, you need to come from CM7 or MIUI first, then flash cm9/gaaps, wipe data, reboot
once you are sure everything works properly, then you can odin the 1.2.1C kernel..

Thanks. I had CM9 installed but never flashed a new kernel on CM9 so I am being as careful as possible

its nice to have a custom recovery with cm9!
So, I have flashed CWM Recovery and CWM Touch Recovery onto my Epic 4G Touch. Rom Manager says both are installed. However, when I boot into recovery, I get the stock recovery. I've searched and searched and all I have found are people who aren't pushing the right buttons and others with junk answers that are no help at all, like instructions on how to flash the recovery.
Even if I reflash using Rom Manager or any other recovery installer, it boots to the stock recovery. It's as if any changes to the file system are being completely ignored.
The weird thing is, if I flash StockCWM-EL26 or rogue_ET-recovery-1.2.2-FB27-rc0 using Odin/Mobile Odin and get to whichever one I flashed once, then either the phone won't boot at all or subsequent reboots result in the stock recovery once again.
To reiterate, I have *no* problem booting the phone and I have *no* problem getting to recovery... it's the wrong recovery, but still.
Oh, and I'm using HyDrA ROM.

As I said, it either works once and never again or never at all no matter what I use to flash it.
Venum's Hydra rom? Wow, talk about a flash back..
Anyway, have you tried the el26 kernel one click?
No, but I don't imagine it would be any different than the Odin flash.
At any rate, I have an addendum. Flashing Rogue 1.2.2, the one that works - I can't get 1.5.0 to work at all (no boot, no recovery, only download mode), doesn't magically disappear, but it doesn't mount my external SD card and I can't open System Settings/Storage - I just can't win.
Would you mind listing the steps of flashing and items being flashed?
Only reason a custom won't stick is that you're flashing something behind it. In my mind at least..
First Time
<Download Mode>
Flash EL26 CWM Recovery - Phone no longer boots to OS. Can only get to CWM Recovery or Download Mode.
<Recovery Mode>
Wipe.
Flash HyDrA twice as per instructions.
Flash GApps.
Flash Multi-DPI Play Market while I'm at it.
Reboot.
Setup ROM.
Attempt to get to Recovery - got stock recovery.
Decided to try again without wiping. Same results.
Decided to try something:
<Download Mode>
Flash EL26 CWM Recovery - Phone no longer boots to OS. Can only get to CWM Recovery or Download Mode.
<Recovery Mode>
Made a NAND backup of /system and /data.
Flash HyDrA twice as per instructions.
Flash CWM Touch Recovery - Recovery takes effect immediately.
Restore the NAND backups.
Reboot.
Attempt to get to Recovery - got stock recovery.
Another thing:
<Download Mode>
Flash Rogue recovery.
Reboot.
Attempt to get to Recovery - got Rogue recovery - So far so good.
Flash CWM Touch Recovery - Recovery takes effect immediately.
Reboot.
Attempt to get to Recovery - got Rogue recovery - Interesting, but I can only access the external SD card from Recovery.
Flashed back to EL26.
Reinstalled HyDrA.
Restored the NAND backups.
(The Touch Recovery version is 5.8.1.5).
ROM Manager
Attempt to flash either CWM Recovery or CWM Touch Recovery.
Reboot.
Attempt to get to Recovery - got stock recovery.
Here is a list of my apps if you want that, too.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k67l6mb294ruyug/apps-list.txt
I'm hesitant on trying anything else because it's a pain to restore it if I can't boot to the OS.
Just went back to Venums thread.
:edit: Briefly reading the thread, you'll need to have and AOSP kernel to run the Rom, so no, EL26 will not work.
:2d edit: This is out of the second post in that thread. - *If you are restoring a nandroid that you backed up via the above process, you will need to wipe cache and dalvik, then flash an AOSP ICS kernel or the ROM wont boot because it is backed up with the EL26 kernel. Then reboot.
Hydra comes with FD26 kernel. As per the OP.
I don't know, and haven't tested, if Hydra will run with EL26 cwm. But you need to add that to the last step.
But that's why you're going back to stock. It's part of the package.
Please, please, please; STOP using Rom Manager to flash a recovery.
I see a AOSP/TWRP repack by Times Infinity in the Kernel Repo that you could try, But I have not read the Hydra thread to see if Venum had tested this prior to discontinuing support.

Right. And I would have no problem just reflashing EL26 /w CWM if it would actually boot into the OS.

Yeah, anything that's not an AOSP kernel/recovery isn't gonna work. So, if Time's aosp repack doesn't work, you'll have to run the included kernel.

Odin wouldn't install it, if that makes a difference. It's not that the install failed and I had to start over, again.
Well, since my touch isn't my daily use phone at the moment, I'll test that setup tonight.
I decided to try the One-Click of the FF18 v2 kernel and it flashed successfully.
However, as with Rogue, I only have no external SD card and no access to Settings/Storage. TWRP is pretty, but if I can't use my SD card, I'd rather use the stock kernel.

My apologies on not getting back with you on this last night.
But the SD issue is also seen on the repacks with JB. Depending on when and how FF18 v2 was built (without source at the time?) could be similar to the issues with current repacks.
I'd have to refer those issues/questions to Agat or Garwynn..
Okay, I'm new to Android and I heard this is the go-to spot for help. Anyway, this is what happened to my Wind SGH-T999V. Mind you i'm VERY new to this rooting thing
I rooted my S3 by using TWRP 2.6.3.0 and i used odin3 v1.85 and it worked. I downloaded a root checker and it said i'm rooted. Then i put CM 10.1.2 on my sd card and wanted to install it via TWRP recovery but it gave me an error that said "No MD5 filed found" or something along those line.
I then tried to use different versions of twrp ( twrp 2.6.1.0) and a different CM (10.1.1) but i still got the same "no Md5 found" error. So, a friend then told me to ditch twrp all-together and download CWM instead. So, I download recovery clockwork touch 6.0.3.7 and put it on my phone.
THEN, i tried to go back to the recovery boot place, but after that small blue font saying "recovery boot", my phone goes black. I dont see the old twrp recovery or the clockwork one.
I just really want to have Cyanogenmod on my phone, i've been having a hard time. Help please?
Just disable the md5 check, most or the ROM files are not going to include a hash file, but will flash fine. TWRP or CWM will error out if the flash fails.
Also, it sounds like your recovery install failed, just reinstall using ODIN and a file from @DocHoliday77 (I recommend TWRP over CWM, but it is just preference)
It's already unchecked.
Install TWRP and try again, should work without issue. Also, redownload the ROM file, preferably the latest version, 10.1.3RC2 (I think)

Don't use RC2. If you want stable, use 10.1.2. get.cm, filter it for your device. I think Doc also has them in his signature.

"Stable" is relative, the RCs are just as good.

You need to edit the install script because your device isn't supported. Or you can download Doc's version.
Actually I'm pretty sure cm includes the T999V, but I'm betting the firmware needs to be updated.
Look in Aerowinders Sig for the links to the firmware. In that OP you should find a link to the thread with the T999V firmware.
Or, you can go to my T999L thread and get the Rom there. But w/o updated firmware it may be buggy.

Some people use the blasphemy kernel to flash from… but you need to already be on cm/aosp/aokp based rom for that kernel to boot back to recovery reliably.
I prefer to just flash a 4.3 rom then while still in recovery… pick reboot recovery. Do your wipes… data, cache, dalvik and format system..then flash the 4.4 rom of your choosing.

Wait... so ROMs also contain a recovery? I always thought recoveries were independent from the OS, sort of like the BIOS for a PC.
I will download a 4.3 ROM and give it a shot. Thanks for the quick response!
[update]
Success! I had to flash two 4.3 ROMs, since the first one (ReVolt) only had CWM 6.0.3.3 (Status 7 when I tried flashing Kit Kat). The second one was Dirty Unicorns, which came with 6.0.4.4.
I also had to install the micro Google Apps package. The bigger ones wouldn't fit, for the Epic 4G Touch.
Thanks again, Gil81!

When you flash a rom zip it will come with a kernel… on our device the kernel and recovery are locked together. In other words. We have to flash a new kernel to have a new recovery..most devices have a seperate partition for the recovery. So it makes this device a little bit of a pain. But if you read through some of the stickies and i have a little guide about flashing with mobile odin. You will get the hang of it.
Let me know if you need any other help. Glad your up and running.

Thank you
Be Warned: Not all ROMs have recoveries. That being said, if going to CM11, I recommend starting with CM10 rom, which does have a recovery that is compatible with CM11 to an extent; flashing CM11 and then booting into the CM11 recovery and flashing CM11 one more time, then you gapps and what have you. This has worked the best for me in the past.

I'm trying to install a Kit Kat ROM, but I keep getting Status 7 errors. From what I've read, I need to have CWM 6.0.4.x+ in order to flash Kit Kat ROMs. The problem is, I can't find it anywhere! The CWM web site shows 5.8 as the latest version. I searched these forums, but can't find a working link anywhere.
Can someone please tell me where I can download a CWM 6.x recovery?
thanks,
Xybyre

Use Philz Recovery to flash Kitkat ROMs.
-- So I want to flash either the Liquid Smooth Rom or the CM11 Rom but each of them say I need to flash an ICS Modem. How do I do that? (download link)
-- I just recently rooted and used this video to flash a recovery (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W-1FPfgclM), but its Agat recovery. Would I be able to flash either of these roms using agat or do I have to flash CWM or TWRP. If so, how do I get CWM or TWRP?
-- And also, which rom is better? My phone isnt much of a phone anymore since I dont have sprint, so I cant call unless I have wifi, so not being able to have 3g or 4g isnt a problem. If I flash Liquid Smooth would I be able to use CM11 themes?
-- And on the Liquid Smooth page,(http://forum.xda-developers.com/epic-4g-touch/orig-development/rom-liquidsmooth-v3-1-t2803683) the download links for the rom and the gaaps don't work. Does anyone have another download link for those?
Thanks

The first thing is welcome to a new world. You don't need to be on and ICS modem unless you need to use data. Since you don't, we can skip that part.
You need to have a safe recovery and AGATs is one. Since you have that recovery installed already, just download Philz Touch recovery for this phone. Boot into recovery, flash the Philz Touch, reboot into recovery. Hopefully you have the ROM file on the internal SD. Once in Philz Touch, You will need to wipe data, cache and dalvik. When you wipe data, it will ask you if you are installing a ROM. Select yes. To wipe dalvik, navigate to advance. Once those 3 are wiped, select install zip, then navigate to where you have the ROM. Flash the ROM then flash the Gapps. Reboot and enjoy. You can only get to your Liquid Smooth ROM by reading through the last few post. The link is down and they are in the process of getting it back up. The Dev has been nice enough to upload them in the post. He hasn't updated the OP yet. Once you have installed any 4.4 ROM you will have a custom recovery that will allow you to flash any 4.4 ROM. Just make sure you READ through some of the pages first or your gonna be sorry. I am not trying to be mean but I know that the Liquid Smooth forum is only a couple of pages long. Because your phone will not use data, it should do good with battery. Liquid Smooth, Vanir/Commotio have better tweaks imo.

Thanks so much.
Can you send me a link for the Philz Touch recovery because i looked for it on this forum and couldnt find it. And if it is a zip file could I just flash it like anything else in the recovery?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
Go to the first page and scroll down to d710. Flash the zip file in recovery. Don't try it any other way. Don't use Philz for restore or backup. The ROM has a custom recovery for that.
