Has anyone here replaced the screen in their phone with one of the LCD + digitizer assemblies from eBay? My phone is cracked but everything on it still works (the headphone jack is loose but the fix for that is 15$ and 20 minutes of my time) and I got the phone itself for $20 so I really don't have much to lose. I want something that works but doesn't feel cheap or like I compromised by getting it. I'm not going to change the glass myself because even though I've done it for other phones, I'm really picky and I don't want it to look/feel like cheap garbage on a few hundred dollar phone. Would my best bet be to skip cheaping out on eBay and and going to Samsung? I probably won't upgrade the phone for at least a year.

I bought my Excalibur...erm Dash Used over the summer for $90. $10 more would have gotten me a brand new Black. but oh well
Anyways my phone looks to have been through hell and back.
A gouge in the touch pad & screen...
Over all the case is beat to hell. (the rubber is actually come off as has the chrome)
but its just an Example of the tough HTC Guts
But i want to make it look nice and replace the screen and case but its gonna be like 40-60 on EvilBay and then im scared imma break it like i did the first I-pod i took apart.
Though now ive repaird upwards of 10 I-pods(classic and Nano) with only 1 fatality.....i just dont want to screw it up...
So XDA, Is it worth making it look nice?
And does anyone know where i can find cheap (NEW) parts?

LoL...from Hell and Back...Lol...used by satan himself....lol...sorry but I can imagine your phone right now.
Ebay has good options, do a little bit of search in the forum...I remember Stylez (Mod form this Forum) recomended other sites....but Ebay is a good choice and you can find cheap things for your dash.
There are alot of companys http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&q=HTC+Dash+housing&meta=&aq=f&oq=&fp=408428c3d949fea1 especially in America but i'd check out Ebay as it's comparative and can be cheaper, i think the cheapest on Ebay when i was looking was about £29 so converted to aprx $65'ish
guide to take apart the excalibur
Luckily i found a few places that carry the full case for <30
Probably going with the T-bay one though

The other sites have bad reviews on quality and being counterfeit
Gotta wait till next week to get it...mom spent more then she expected on a New T-mobile Tap & Samsund Behold yesterday signing a new contract.
Hah and i dropped it for the second time monday....i jumped a privacy fence and it fell out of my pocket...now it REALLY looks like hell
Title says all. I was goofing around and had my phone in my pocket and landed on it cracking the screen in the corner. Digitizer still works but where can I find a real honest to god OEM replacement screen?

I don't want to get a cheap ripoff replacement but this looks legit (I guess) Anyone care to give an expert input on if I should get this or not?
Much thanks in advance. (Back to my Moto RAZR V3 til then)
are you sure you broke the digitizer, the lcd screen, or both?
the digitizer should cost you around $20
what you posted is the actualy lcd screen
I would buy from a US seller just avoid any complications.
check the feedback rating on the ebay seller you are buying from
chances are, they have sold the exact prduct before. See what other buyers have to say about their purchase
The digitizer is fine. I checked the function using droid explorer screencast. I cracked the LCD.
I just don't want to replace the screen with some knockoff poor quality LCD.
Thanks for the reply.
Then buying any lcd screen on ebay should be fine. You should understand that generally people on ebay aren't trying to sell you fake or non quality products, unless its blatantly a scam or too good to be true. Buy from a US seller just in case something goes, its easier to deal with. China and other overseas sellers may be able to get you the same product for less, but transit times can take a while. And paypal only has a 45 day grace period for opening disputes to get your money back, in case things go terribly wrong.

And there's many teardown guides on youtube to get you going. Easy peasy, as long as you're gently and can handle things carefully
By the way, Use the thanks button. A lot better than saying thanks in a post
Gotcha.. I whacked that button for you.
Tearing into the phone won't be an issue. The seller I have linked above is stateside so I will go ahead and purchase that and hopefully be tossing the V3 into backup phone status.
I dropped my phone and it landed on a rock and caused a small crack in the outer glass only. I went on ebay and they only seem to have replacement glass for the Euro version only. I have insurance but $100 to replace seems like alot plus I need to sell the phone and wanna get at least $300 so spending $100 to replace a $10 part seems like alot. Does anyone know anywhere I can find this replacement part or are the phones still too new?
From what I understand, on these phones you have to replace the entire screen, not just the glass. That makes it much more than a $10 repair. Probably best just to pay the $100 and get a new phone.

The guy above is right, it's not just glass. It's the LCD & Digitizer combination. Not to mention, it's a Super AMOLED+ screen. The part (in bulk) that we order comes out to $110.00 wholesale, so you're probably better off paying the $100.00 it costs to replace/repair it.
I am one of those people who have a crack on my nexus screen.
its not a major crack in the middle of my screen so I am not rushing to get it fixed, but when I contacted a lot of repair shops near me, the price to replace the LCD is seems to range in $300-400.
will this price ever go down? some guy told me it will only go up as time passes..
im not sure if he said that so I'll go fix my phone at his shop
or
if he was being honest...
so the question is
will the price of repair cost for this phone go down eventually? if so, will it ever be around $100-200?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Gonna have to do it yourself for a fraction of the price. It is not worth it to pay $300 for a repair... that's well over 1/2 the price of what a used device goes for. Even like $200 is atrociously high.
The cheapest I have found the replacement screen is $269, so the quotes you are getting sound about right. You could try to buy the screen and do it yourself. If you want to try it, here is a link to the part on Ebay: http://tinyw.in/vXxI. Also, for a complete teardown tutorial go here: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-Teardown/7182/1. Even though that is for the GSM model, it should still help you out because there isn't much difference.
As far as him telling you that it will get more expensive, I don't know. It is possible because because of supply and demand. It's also possible it could get cheaper especially if third party Chinese vendors start making them. You can get a screen & digitizer for an iPhone 3GS for $8 from China. They are not the same quality you would get from OEM's, but they do work. I have bought and fixed many, many broken iPhones and used the aftermarket screens and sold them for profit. The problem is, the Galaxy Nexus is not near as popular as the iPhone, so it's hit or miss whether or not these thrid party vendors will make them. If it was a Galaxy S 2, you could probably find it.
Good luck!
PS. Get the insurance next time. You would have to pay $100 deductible, but you would get a refurbished or brand new phone and usually the next business day after filing the claim.
You should definitely give Samsung a call, you should see the answers I posted in my related thread: [Q] Galaxy Nexus (SCH-i515) Replacement Screen -- Answered and see if my notes there help you. I got my phone repaired for less than $165.00 which seems to be in your $100-$200 range.
Getting it repaired for $270 is INSANE people...you could get a new Galaxy Nexus for $349 from the Play Store right now.
I just cracked my screen (so dumb and I just knew it was cracked fro mthe way it hit the ground completely flat on the screen)...Samsung told me it will cost me $250 not including shipping...others have told me different prices from Samsung which is very disconcerting....I said screw it and ordered the entire LCD/Digitizer display from Ebay for $199 with expedited shipping which came out to $224....I'm pissed about about paying this price but I have a white Galaxy Nexus and want to keep a white one....so I just got fed up and ordered it...the process for doing it yourself doesn't seem too hard...and I already have a screw driver that fits the screws holding the phone together behind the battery door...hopefully all goes well tomorrow.
I actually just got off chat support with a Samsung rep, and they told me that it would be roughly $165 to send it in for replacement. Most everything else hovers around $150-$200, so I figure I'll just send it in to them.

Botched Attempt, WHAT TO look out for
I just bought a new OEM screen digitizer LCD for less than 85. shipped on eBay.
Yeah, I had a crack in the digitizer glass. I bought a used ebay screen for $50 and replaced it myself. Works like a charm.

its pretty cheap for one but do you know how much would it cost to just fix it?
A new glass will cost around $20 plus shipping and if you need a new digitizer (You said the screen does not work), that runs about $235 plus shipping eBay pricing).
I would pass as you do not know exactly why the screen does not work. For the screen to not work, the phone must really have dropped hard as these phones are kind of tough.
If you want to spend $400/$450 on an S3 (which it will cost once you buy a new digitizer), I will sell you mine which is 7 months old and in perfect condition and I'm asking $425 (I love my S3, but I want to get out of my Telus contract and I have to pay off the phone to do so).
