[Q] Samsung Note 3 jpg files not recognized as pictures - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Device: T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Not Rooted
Model # SM-N900T
Android Ver. 4.3
Kernel Ver. 3.4.0-1670611
Preamble:
Pictures taken with the phone camera (either on onto the device or onto the SD card), that were never moved off the device are recognized by any and all media apps (such as Gallery) as pictures and, therefore show up normally in the media apps and can be manipulated there (rotating or cropping, for example).
Problem:
Recently and without anything being done, I noticed that all pictures that were uploaded from a computer onto the phone have disappeared from the media apps. That included pictures that I originally took with that phone then moved onto a computer and then moved back onto that same phone, as well as the pictures that I just moved from a computer that had no relation to the phone's camera to begin with. All of those images are of *.jpg format. The file managing apps (such as My Files) do see those files and are sending to open them with my default picture app (Gallery), which opens them but does not give me any options as to edit or anything else.
Tried to drag-n-drop in a dual window mode from My Files picture opened into a new folder into Gallery - the result was a message "file not supported".
This is just weird.
What could be causing this and how do I correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

via regular USB cable. Did not use the USB 3 cable recently, but have done that as well. Makes no difference.
The key weirdness is that as long as I obtain pictures by using the phone (via camera, or online download) they are recognized just fine. It's when I upload images using a USB connection from my computer (even the pics that were taken with that same Note 3 and transferred to computer before) onto the phone is when that crap starts to manifest (or, rather, disappear).

Hm. It works just fine now, after the restart and without the SD card. I uploaded the files onto the phone, and the Gallery app sees them now... Why?

[Q] Is it the SD card at fault?

hi all,
thought i would ask here as my questions in the rom specific forum are getting swamped by every asking for the dev to install specific programmes or people asking wht OJ death is..
im just trying to narrow down if my SD card is faulty, the rom is causing the issues or i have or am doing things wrong.
on random occasions i have lost apps, photos and other info from my SD card.
the first time it happed i did a nandriod backup prior to a rom update.
right after the nandriod back up my phone booted up and every photo i had taken in the last 2 days were gone.
thankfully using Recuva data recovery program in windoiws i was able to find and restore the photos.
i then updated my rom the Open desire rom, the one that enabled the OTA menu system. as far as i know there were no other things changed in the initial update.
after rebooting all my sd card data was wiped.
BUT.... some of the apps on the sd card were still there and some were gone, as well as apps on the phone, some were gone some was not.

You're not alone... I too have a similar issue, with an un-branded, un-rooted Desire. The first think I noticed was a duplicate "Backgrounds" folder appearing in the 3D Gallery - which in itself is odd, because the standard Gallery app only shows it once.
Weirdly in one version of the folder I have a few less images than the other, but they're otherwise all duplicates and can only be found in one visible "Backgrounds" directory on my SD card. It's not just the Gallery app aither - some others (like Wall Switch) also see two "Backgrounds" folders.
Then I noticed a number of images had mysteriously disappeared from another folder - in both Gallery apps. The only app that's crashed is Wall Switch - which is probably related, as it's looking for images in that "Backgrounds" folder. It works fine most of the time though.
If any images have gone missing, I should be able to get them back as I recently upgraded to a 32GB card and copied all my files across before doing so. However, I'm more concerned that there's a problem with the new card. (Which, for the record, was not a cheap one from eBay.)
As such, I'll be spending some time this weekend testing the new card to see if I can identify any issues... but I too have a couple of questions in that regard:
i) Is there any benefit in formatting the card in the phone before use? (It came pre-formatted so I first checked it for errors in Windows first, then just started using it.) I realise before Froyo the phone could not format such big cards, but I think that may have been resolved now.
ii) What's the best way to verify the integrity of the card? (e.g. Will error checking via Windows - XP in my case - suffice?)
EDIT: I took the card out and copied the files (minus my MP3 library) back to the 4GB card that came with the phone. When I ran with this card the duplicate directory disappeared. CHKDSK found no problems on the 32GB card, but I reformatted it in the phone anyway and then copied everything back to it and all is now fine. I'm assuming the phone did a "Quick Format" rather than a full one, as it only took a few seconds. I'm not too worried about the missing image files as these may have been inadvertently deleted anyway. Fingers crossed the problem is behind me now, but I'll keep an eye on it.
I am having similar issues, it's almost like the SD card is not fully loaded, and tried to load but can't. Things are missing, and then they are there. I am using a new 16GB over the original 8GB.
I am rooted though, am I able to do a format of the SD card?
Also when I choose to make it work as disc drive, nothing happens, does not show up on system.

i had the same issue when i first rooted my phone i was able to put the card in an old HTC and it showed up as a drive in USB mode and i was able to run a file recovery tool to extract the data
then re format and copy the data back to it..
but the current issue is just random and strange...
stuff just seems to disapear as far as the phone is concerned ...
as i have already mentioned i had stuff vanish after running nandroid back up..
So for me it seems it happens shortly after bootup. Yes I give it enough time.
But once I open the all programs area, I see it load all of the icons. Maybe some issue with it not loading untill I open that area up.
Also, most of issues seems to be coming from the App Organizer Application, it's updated often so hopefully my issues will go away.
*As I play around with things it seems almost all my issues are related to the program. Even the issue with it not showing up on my computer when connected through USB. It does show up, just takes awhile, and once it does my Apps Organizer icons flash. So related.
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18971539
some cases seems related

Cannot save photos into gallery

Not too sure what's happened. But I'm rooted, on the stock radio, but using at the moment the All Star 4.1.2 ROM. But even when using the Jedi ROMS, all of the jpegs i'd either download, or transfer onto my phone will not show up in the gallery.
Perfect example is when I downloaded the Nexus 4 wallpapers from the dump, then transfered onto my internal SD card, opened Gallery, showed items but no contents. In other words, it would state 14 items, but each thumbnail had a question mark through it, nothing would happen when I click on one of them.
This happened through two different ROMS.

Have you tried using the ex card instead for your pictures etc. I use both so I don't lose all my stuff flashing roms.
It isn't a matter of losing data. I could transfer an image to my phone via CWM or mass storage while the phone is on. But when I go to the gallery, the items appear, but I can't click on them and the thumbnails show up blank.
I just went back to a 4.0.4 ROM so i'll see if that fixed anything.

If not try this gallery apk
Downloading now, I'll see what happens.
You can try one of the Media scanner apps in the Play Store to force a re-scan.

[help] how to recover damaged pictures

hi, i'm Galaxy Note 2 user.
i have a lot of pictures taken from my phone in HDR mode, and that is verry important picture.
but there are one time, my ExtSDcard storage was full, so i move all my picture to Phone SDcard storage for a moment.
when i'm moving the Pictures, my Phone SDcard also full, and my phone was Lagging in couples minutes.
and after that, i saw in my Gallery the moved picture in my phone SDcard was not displayed, and there are error message "Load Failed". i cannot open the picture files in any File Explorer apps, and in my PC as well.
there are 16 pictures damaged in this case, and untill now i dont know how to recover it.
i have search alot information, but no one help me.
please anyone, if you know how to fix this problem, tell me..
i need your help, please,,,
is there anyone have same problem with me?
is there any solution?
please....
If the pictures were originally on your external SD card then you can run a data recovery app against it and if you haven't added any new files to the card since you did the deletion there's a pretty high chance they're still sitting there. Data is never deleted directly it's just marked as deleted (essentially) and then later files added to the card will overwrite any older data over time. I've never had to do this myself but Googling for free image recovery turns up quite a few results.

[Q] PC not recognizing video files?

I've used my Galaxy S3 for a year now, and had no issues connecting via USB. I had issues last night where it wasn't recognizing it and had to reinstall/reboot a few times until it fixed. I'm on 4.3 also.
Now I can browse the phone but it's not showing any video files in the DCIM folder or anywhere even if I move them. What gives?
Do they appear in the Windows Explorer ?
Move the files to your External SD card and then give it a try.

[APP] - Android File Transfer, issues on Note 3

***SOLUTION FOUND! I CAN NOW ACCESS THE FOLDER. SEE POST BELOW.***
Android File Transfer was working great up until a few days ago when it started to bug out, only for when trying to access the Camera folder on my exSD Card.
I can access everything else except when clicking on this folder the message pops up, which makes no sense because my screen isn't locked. (Screenshot attached.)
Could it be that the amount of pictures/videos on the exSD card is too much to handle for AFT? After all, it is a 64GB card...which is a lot of land to cover and load....hmmmm
I've tried this, but no luck.
Note: I'm aware of AirDroid etc...Personally I prefer to be plugged in direct via USB.

Not really a theme Or app question but I'll give it a swing.
Can you access it on your phone fine?
Did you try using a card reader an see if you can access it that way?
If it's stating locked, it may have set permissions on your folder that inhibit access? Check those in a root explorer an see what they say too

Mod, can you move this over to the proper forum. Thanks.
Possible causes / Things I've tried:
I do have some pictures in an App called: KeepSafe, where you have to enter in a pin code to access those pics, so then I was thinking maybe this was causing the problem. So I entered the App and tried connecting, but darn...same old thing. Doesn't work and I keep getting the same error message as the pic I have attached to the original thread.
I have also tried to reboot in Recovery (twrp) and tried to mount the exSD, but still nothing. Here's the message it gave me:
E: Unable to mount '/usbstorage'
This is driving me crazy. Anyone?

Can you access it on your phone fine? - Yes I can access it just fine through ES File Explorer. I've also checked the permissions.
Did you try using a card reader an see if you can access it that way? - I'm sure it'll work fine with a card reader, but that's not my preferred method. It's just frustrating for something to have worked and out of the blue stop.
If it's stating locked, it may have set permissions on your folder that inhibit access? Check those in a root explorer an see what they say too - I've uploaded a screen shot of the message that I'm receiving.

Try moving the KeepSafe files to another directory.

Update 6/30/14
SUCCESS!
From the gallery on your phone, you can create folders and move (not copy) over pictures/videos and it'll be default save it to your phones internal SD card.
I didn't want to move all 4,000+ pics/vids so I just did it in little batches of 20 here 50 there and made just a few folders.
Then I connected the phone to my computer and accessed the Camera folder and....bam there it OPENS!
My theory:
If you have more than ~50% of your external SD card filled up then chances are your computer (Android File Transfer, for Mac users) will have a hard time trying to access that huge folder that is < 30+GB's ...
Therefore, you just have to lighten up the load on that folder so that it can be accessed with ease...
Pretty straight forward and simple.

It is more likely that they thought it very unlikely that there would be more than the old limit of 2,000 files in a directory so they didn't allow for it in the program code.
