I've used my Galaxy S3 for a year now, and had no issues connecting via USB. I had issues last night where it wasn't recognizing it and had to reinstall/reboot a few times until it fixed. I'm on 4.3 also.
Now I can browse the phone but it's not showing any video files in the DCIM folder or anywhere even if I move them. What gives?
Do they appear in the Windows Explorer ?
Move the files to your External SD card and then give it a try.

hey guys
I had a bunch of pics that I received via MMS and I needed to use, so I just long click on it and selected to save do sd card. But when I connect the phone to the pc on mass storage mode, I can't find them anywhere.
So I installed the app SaveMMS and saved all the pics to a folder with the same name. Still nothing showed up when I connect the phone to my PC.
Using ASTRO, I can see all the pictures on the download folder and I can also access the SaveMMS folder (and actually some other folders that I cant see from my PC).
I tried to copy to somewhere else and even that didnt work.
I ended up emailing myself the pics...
Any idea on whats happening?
I got root and im using opendesire with a partitioned sd card (and no, there's no pictures on the ext partition).
many thanks
Does any file names or folders on your phone look like, for example, this ".hello"
If so, get rid of the full stop at the start of the name via Astro, as it will not show up on your computer
Thread moved to Q&A.
delete my post
thanks for the reply
the first thing I checked was for hidden folders, and it wasnt that.
the folders ended up showing up on the desktop as well, out of nowhere.
but it just seemed some random, dont know what was the issue.
This is usually because you are using a2sd which makes the SD card do strange things. Changes are only actually saved to the card for the computer to see when restarting the phone
The problem is well documented, and a fix have been made which should fix it
Well, its really weird.
But better weird with A2SD than normal without it ;p
hey guys,
My issue is that when I plug my s3 into the computer. When I access the SD card from the file explorer on the computer, it comes up with duplicate folders. Just wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue. However if i browse the files through astro on my phone it looks just fine. I'm running AOKP Build 4.
So I saw this & hoped there was some extra infoon tthis topic cause I had the exact same issue. It was agrivating because I didn't know which folder to save to. Some of the folders had different data in them
My solution? I put the sd card in a multi reader & poof - no duplicate files.
BAD NEWS
Now my phone doesn't know where to find the sd card. Oh, it reads & writes just fine. I can see it in SUFBS & Astro file manager, copy files to/from with ease. But go to the gallery & I only see the phone memory. Ring tones are only found in phone memory. Downloading from any Web browser & it only goes to internal storage & I can't point to ext sd, but sms backup & restore saves to it just fine. My friend thinks the drive letter got changed but I have no idea how to find or change that in the phone. I's sad.

Ive never seen this myself. But i only connect to my computer via usb when using Odin. For file transfers i use SwiFTP wireless transfer.
Search for sgs3 easy ums here on xda. Itll let you mount external sd as UMS rather than MTP which is probably whats causing it (maybe because you are non stock?).
Also you may have to reformat the card at this point. Not really sure about that though.
Sorry i dont have more for you, but in the future try those two apps i mentioned. Find Swiftp bt searching the themes and apps section.

Hello,
I am moving from my HTC Desire S to the GN2. I am very happy with the phone and plan to keep it stock non-root.
I am having a hurrendous time copying files, I use a Mac at home and after a few hours messing about I managed to get kies working (Android File Transfer is useless!!)
On my work Laptop I'm running Windows 7 and have admin rights and connect my GN2 and it comes up as a Portable device. I can browse to the internal and external storage and can read the data but not write.
Am I doing something wrong?
why doen't it come up as removable storage??
I did search the forum but couldnt find much on issue with Windows 7 and GN2, plenty on Mac and GN2 but I have that working now.
Thanks
I used this last night and it worked perfectly. I opened up iTunes and just dragged my playlist over. I was browsing through developer options and i noticed a check box "protect sd card" perhaps you have that checked which is preventing you from copying files.

Device: T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3
Not Rooted
Model # SM-N900T
Android Ver. 4.3
Kernel Ver. 3.4.0-1670611
Preamble:
Pictures taken with the phone camera (either on onto the device or onto the SD card), that were never moved off the device are recognized by any and all media apps (such as Gallery) as pictures and, therefore show up normally in the media apps and can be manipulated there (rotating or cropping, for example).
Problem:
Recently and without anything being done, I noticed that all pictures that were uploaded from a computer onto the phone have disappeared from the media apps. That included pictures that I originally took with that phone then moved onto a computer and then moved back onto that same phone, as well as the pictures that I just moved from a computer that had no relation to the phone's camera to begin with. All of those images are of *.jpg format. The file managing apps (such as My Files) do see those files and are sending to open them with my default picture app (Gallery), which opens them but does not give me any options as to edit or anything else.
Tried to drag-n-drop in a dual window mode from My Files picture opened into a new folder into Gallery - the result was a message "file not supported".
This is just weird.
What could be causing this and how do I correct this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

via regular USB cable. Did not use the USB 3 cable recently, but have done that as well. Makes no difference.
The key weirdness is that as long as I obtain pictures by using the phone (via camera, or online download) they are recognized just fine. It's when I upload images using a USB connection from my computer (even the pics that were taken with that same Note 3 and transferred to computer before) onto the phone is when that crap starts to manifest (or, rather, disappear).

Hm. It works just fine now, after the restart and without the SD card. I uploaded the files onto the phone, and the Gallery app sees them now... Why?

Your sd card starting to go bad. Same issues waiting for my replacement
TWEAKED 2.0 NOTE 3
I am using windows 8.1 (tried on 2 different systems with same OS) and viperone rom 2.5.0 on my HTC one M8. (this is a problem i always had even on the stock rom, I thought that a custom rom might fix it but i was wrong).
When i connect my phone to my computer, it gets detected instantly.
It finds the internal sd card but also the external sd card.
HOWEVER, when i go to the internal sd card (So the memory the phone has by default) There is no Android folder. (you know, the one with the .com-facebook blabla files in it)
When i open a file explorer on my phone I can perfectly see all the files and folders on my Internal SD card. But when I use the pc to find these files, allot of them don't show up. Even some files in the ROOT of the sd card are not showing up, and these are simple .png and .log files. AS IF WINDOWS 8.1 DOES NOT DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE FILES, and therefor decides to just not show them.
- YES i have turned on Show hidden files and folders -
Oh yeah, sometimes these folders do randomly pop up in there on the pc but then the are gone just as fast as they appeared. Also transfering files is very, very slow and gets interupted from time to time because windows "Cannot connect to device" or "Lost connection to device".
I keep wondering, why can't it be easy like an simple usb stick/drive. Those things are just plug 'n play. I recon that android should have this same option but it keeps disappointing me
I remember the good GingerBread days where you pressed the button on your phone CONNECT STORAGE TO PC. And it worked every single time, without delay or other crap. Just like CWM with its USB Storage function.
Look for a folder named "storage", in there you find the folder "emulated" and in there is the folder "0" open it and you'll see all the folders you have on your phone
