New to S4 looking to root. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

How's it going everyone. I'm looking for a little bit of help or a link to where I can find how to root my s4. It's currently running 4.2.2 I'm also looking to see what setup everyone is using? Kernel,Rom etc. I've rooted phones before but to be honest the last phone I rooted was a Mytouch 4g Slide. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

thank you guys a lot. I am now rooted. Now what ROM do you guys recommend me using? I'm really just looking for something fast simple and just want to get rid of all the bloatware from the stock device.

It's grown upon around here to ask "what ROM". Try a few and see what you like.
If you're looking to stay with TWz but debloated, try dbomdROM or Wicked.
Had on over to the Development section, look at the OP of each thread. They still list what's in the ROM ect. Good luck

I'm in a very similar boat. (Disclaimer: I'm new to root/ROM life)
I find the T-Mobile stock apps bloated and I suspect they're eating away at my battery. I want to get rid of them and reduce bloat/battery problems. The question is what ROM?
I also don't want to lose all my current customizations and I don't want to lose any features of going to a ROM... I'd love some suggestions. I'm not looking for "best" as that's probably a very personal preference for everyone... I'm looking for what a large percentage or majority of users use... From all my searching and googling, it looks like Cynogenmod is a very popular one.
I just can't figure out if I lose any features from the stock T-Mobile rom... or not...

If you want to keep Touchwiz/T-Mobile features you need to flash a ROM base on TWz firmware. Look at dbombROM or Wicked.
ROM like CM are compiled from open sources and usually will not have those TWz features (a couple of things have been ported to work but not much).

I'll try it and report back, OP didn't give much information.

Once he's done testing he'll let us know, but if you can't wait that long than you can try to flash it yourself or look in the comments of the thread and see if any T-Mobile users have any complaints.

Has AT&T bloatware, I'm getting 4G signal here, so that's a good thing.
I hate the status bar, going to have to theme it back to stock TW.

Mr. Robinson's debloater didn't work, Titanium Backup it is.
So far it seems like everything is working, haven't dug too deep yet, will keep reporting back.
1.2 is going to drop soon. I have patience. thanks to those that flashed and reported to those who had doubts. Build prop edits to make it read t999 aren't hard to do, everything else should move along swimmingly, except no wifi calling will be available.

[Q] AT&T GN2 Help

Hi I am new here and I would like to root my device to make it my own and get rid of all the apps that came with it, but I have a few questions.
1, Once I am rooted which rom is the best for my AT&T GN2?
2, Will I still be able to update my GN2?
3, What happens if I messed up during the rooting process?
4, And how often do I need to change roms?
5, Is rooting the way to go?
I am going to be dead honest here, I am a girl and some of the steps of rooting I dont quite understand, if someone can help me explain things I will be so happy.

1. Try each rom out and find out what YOU like. I personally use CleanRom 4.0.5 with no problems.
2. Why update when custom roms are better than stock roms?
3. If you mess up thats on you. But its not to hard root. I rooted and installed a custom rom before leaving the att store.
4. If you find a rom that you like you will most likely flash a new rim once its updated.
5. Yes rooting has many advantages. Ex. Wifi tethering, removing bloatware, custom roms, etc.....

No. You can be rooted using the "stock" rom you are using now out of the box. You will have the ability to delete apps using the app mentioned before.
If and when you do decide to install new roms. You will have to install a recovery. Which that exynos abuse apk does not include.
A recovery is a whole other thing.
For recovery I use twrp.

I'll be honest, this smells of a "phone won't turn on" thread in the near future. You're not ready to root your phone and go playing around in recovery. You might be ready to root once you'd studied up on exanose abuse and the rooting concept in general. But right now I would hold off if I were you. TBO the Gn2 runs so well out of the box that you're almost there anyway. Make sure you are confident that you will know how to do each step BEFORE you attempt to root, and are sure you have another web-enabled device so that you can come here for questions while your Gn2 is down.
Let's us know what you decide...

Looking for stable rom with multiview and other 4.1.2 updates

The only roms ive found were unstable or heavily themed. Im looking for something with customizable themes and a touchwiz like layout. Im currently running jellybam and i love it the only other rom i really liked was liquid smooth. If anyone know of any roms like these 2 please share. Thanks

All roms that say "MB1" have 4.1.2 goodies....additionally theres a multiview flashable that will work on any TW rom
I recommend TPR (the peoples rom) or MOAR (Mother of all Roms), both are in android dev and Touchwiz based
Hate to say this but search first please. I do see you are new but there have been countless threads asking similar question about a stable rom and multiview and 4.1.2 . Take this a lesson.

Go to this page. This is a Wiki an XDA Member has put together that has each ROM and some pertinent information about it. Only TWT Roms will have multi-view, so limit your searching to those. Just click on each link and see which ROM appeals to you.

Just be sure you wipe cache/Davlik after flashing rom, If you don't it may hang in landscape upon reboot and be unresponsive. (I wipe those after any flash i do either way) just making sure theres not issues. I know Romp is working on fixing that issues as well, Stay tuned!

All roms can have wifi tether, just google "Treve mod wifi tether" and install that APK on whatever rom you choose and BAM! Working wifi tether :cyclops:
I would highly suggest cyanogenmod, aokp, PA.3.0, team nocturnal ROMs, dazednconfused ROM, jdeloach ROM, evo 4Gs ROMs, and all the others in the development sections.
